  • This addresses some of the electrical issues owners of these trucks may experience Colorado or GMC Canyon. How come the power to the radio and dash stays on after the key is removed and the driver has opened and closed the door. I dropped down to a different auto salvage yard and found the boot for the door ajar sensor. The good fellas down there said you drive a 2005 Colorado? ...you'll be back and said no charge for the boot. I love it! That's how you get repeat business. Cheers!

My truck was doing this occasionally but now it has progressed to absolutely nothing when I turn the ignition. No idea if it related.
I get no lights, no clicks, nothing. But, if I open and close either door (my wife came up with the solution and she knows nothing, like nothing about cars), it will get full power back and start. But it is inconsistent on which door works, most of the time the drivers door fixes it. Sometimes I have to do it twice. Sometimes just turning the key on and off works. Sometimes I get a click. Sometimes the tac and speedo quiver, even going negative, but nothing else happens.
I love my Colorado, I got 358,000 miles on it but it scares me that its gonna strand us somewhere.
And, the 4 wheel drive will engage randomly while driving. I pulled the fuses to fix that problem and don't go off road anymore.
    Nice channel, good job.

This is a guess only Andy...Unfortunately, you may need a new ignition mechanism. The ignition has a tendency to wear out. I had my ignition replaced by the dealer a long time ago before I was making videos. I believe the dealer needs to re-program the new ignition/key/anti-theft system. That would explain the intermittent nature of it. Next time it doesn't work just tap on the ignition, wiggle the key, see if you can effect it that way. Perhaps you should call the dealer and get some info on that ignition replace job, discuss the symptoms and see if they agree. Their Info is free.
Sorry Bud, let us know how it works out or not so others can benefit. Cheers!

I’ve had the same issue with my Colorado for the past three years. About once a week I’ve had to jump it in the morning andI didn’t have a clue what would cause the issue. After doing some research that got me nowhere I came across this video. Mine were also loose so time will tell if it’s fixed or not but at least I have a starting point. Thankyou so much .

@@cantletherdiediy1050 Hi sir, Here is the big question, what that switch got to do whit the radio, thanks to your video I was able to fix my problem.

    • @cantletherdiediy1050

@@Sultan-qc8gl If the door switch is loose and not functioning, like mine, then when you turn the truck off & open the door (the failing door ajar switch still tells the truck the door is closed so the truck continues playing the radio until the driver's door ajar switch tells the BCM (Body Control Module) that the driver has left and the BCM turns the radio off in response to the signal coming from the door ajar switch.

i fixed this issue on my step dads 05 canyon all the wires were broken off and you would have to open passenger side door to get radio to turn off i just soldered on more wired fixed the connection. and its been good ever since. another thing with this truck is the powered locks stop working when it was really cold this winter. i fixed the wiring issue in 2019. its was the back door on drivers side.

Does yours have the radio with the 6 cd changer ???
That’s what ran my battery down staying on
    Thanks great video

    • @cantletherdiediy1050
      @cantletherdiediy1050  Рік тому

No, mine has only one cd player but you may have the same problem. The door ajar switch may be loose and no longer functioning. The door ajar switch tells the BCM (Body Control Module) that you have left the vehicle and it stops energizing the radio/CD player and dash. If that door ajar switch is loose enough to not be grounded, then it fails to function and your radio/CD player stays on after you leave...which drains the battery. I hope that is your problem because it is an easy fix. Keep on Truck'n Dale!

I am having same issue with my truck i have an 05 chevy avalanche I was originally told it was the aftermarket radio, than my dad mentioned that it might be my key switch just staying on accessory edge, so started looking up, seeing a lot of the door ajar lock assembly which is a good possibility since I don't think my chimes are working telling me that my keys are still in my ignition with the engine off but going to check this first, so many possibilities but definitely have a dead battery right now

I got a question about a 2005 Chevy Colorado have you ever had a problem with the output seal of the transmission where the drive shaft goes in that seal seems to have came out and I was just asking if I can put that seal back in myself or does the drive shaft have to come all the way out or what would even cause that

Is your ignition worn and/or the key?
You may have a dirty ignition, that's shorting. Spray electrical contact cleaner into key port, run it back and forth a bunch of times.

A little late but i figured it out, i have the extended cab, which at times have issues with the wiring harness splitting on the suicide doors. I fixed this by splicing the black and grey wire together. This may also trigger an airbag light, but this was not the case for me.
