I feel like the forester is a car that your parents would actually approve of you buying at 16 because it looks like a safe, boring first car, but you secretly want it and dont tell them it has a turbo
First car is a 1999 Forester that my dad had, he knew what he was doing ☠️ didn't have a turbo, but since it's losing life slowly, I'm looking into a 2007 Subaru Forester 2.5 X Premium. 👀
Got a 2001 GT SF, 300,000km on the clock, stock engine, boost controller, fat exhaust, still running like it’s brand new. Took it on a road trip fully loaded all the way from Gold Coast to Cairns and back no hassles overtaking and just a pleasure to drive. Old is Gold!!
Are they on 2nd Gen as well? Mine has it, it's an '01, my g/fs is a 98 and she doesn't have em. Also the radio antenna being glued the the rear quarter panel glass instead of sticking out the hood. Great innovations.

I haven't had my 2017 XT Forester long, it had an AC issue and was in the shop recently. They gave me an ascent as a loaner. Between my old crosstrek and driving that ascent around for 4-5 days it made me truly realize and appreciate how great the forester is. It's the perfect balance of fun and utility. It feels miles bigger than the crosstrek and is a peanut in comparison to the way too large ascent. Love it.
You wanne haul some *ss: Subaru Forester You wanne haul some gear: Subaru Forester You wanne gapellebees some sport car : Subaru Forester You need to bring the kids to the football field?: Subaru Forester You want some extra time working in the garage?: Subaru Forester
I had a few reasons for getting an FXT. First , the storage space. Second, the turbo and aftermarket support. Also can't forget about the cheap insurance because it's not a WRX/STi!
I picked up this 06, base model, non turbo, stickshift 800$ piece of crap of forester with what i think is about 400 000 miles on it and spent 2 grand fixing it and I friggin love it I dont regret a thing Its hard to pinpoint what exactly makes them loveable, but you can go just about anywhere, work so well in the snow even with all open diffs and you can rip it around like a car and it will react almost like a car, its just plain fun Every repair I had to make so far was a breeze to do and dead simple im just so impressed by this thing (except for the price of some parts)
Yay, one of my clips made the video! It’s funny that the newer foresters are used as off-roaders as the older ones are more capable and cheaper as well so you don’t cry as much when it gets scratched up on the trails haha. Great vid 🤘
@kaleb Miller ya that would be huge difference n really no one could really argue a forester would not be a fun vehicle unless maybe its a stock nottlm trim maybe, I dislike small suvs but tje forester is the exception n i would love one!! Did u google vankulture? Or look at youtube? Love hondas soni went with a 3rd gen odyssey, but some of the newer maybe about 2015 or so siennas r super sick even in stock form some lool really nice add wheels n coils or bags sicl lookin daily family cruzer, but havnt driven or even sat in the new siennas so dont kmow how they compare for fun factor. I know in 05 honda was leages better than the competition as far as sportiness goes.
Love it. Foresters always have presence regardless of generation. Very hard to offend others of mod choices. Convinced my dad and father-in-law to get 4th gens for their safety and they love it. Me? I want either a 2nd or 3rd Gen, having owned a 2nd & 3rd Gen Impreza wagon in the past.
noxxi knox are 2001 foresters good? It’s 2.5 automatic non turbo it’s in great condition it has 250k miles clean title but not sure what to look for when test driving besides oil leaks and transmission slips
noxxi knox so autos are bad? I just want to use to go around town or traveling I live in Texas and it gets packed here in Houston and driving a manual to get around would be a pain since traffic and there’s a lot of morons who driving horrible
noxxi knox I understand but I’ll be checking it out today and I looked at some of the photos looks In great condition so does the engine bay it’s not cleaned like they detailed it but you know just small dust here and there since it’s tx but it hardly even snows in Texas but rain often . He said it’s a clean title the interior looks good no rust on body but I’ll be checking for struts like you mentioned earlier
Such practical daily drivers with the potential to give you a large smile. Owned 2 turbo foresters, first thing to do is to get rid of the boat like suspension 😉
I had a 2017 Forester XT. I loved that turbo charged suv. Unfortunately they got rid of the turbo in their new models so I switched to the new Acura RDX A-Spec when my lease was up
Best car I've ever owned, 1998 STi, Tein coilovers, 4" HKS exhaust, boost controller, non return fuel valve for forcing the engine to sip more fuel as encreace the boost and a turbo timer, helluva rocket, have run 230km/h quite solid, whenever it needs to (worst gas mileage ever stepping flat out), best versatility ever, you can canyon carving monday, speedway top speed thursday, moving your family wednesday, travel tuesday and off road in the weekend 😂🤣😂🤣 all around car, some pros (Shares platform and powertrain with impreza so it's over builded and over engeneered, LSD, great traction, huge aftermarket, big trunk, great cargo capacity and payload around 600kg, tows like a beast)/ Cons (small back seat leg room, horrible mileage on full send, JDM A/C does not cold 15°C as US spec just do 18°C, prune to overheating, expensive regular maintenance
Best car ive had was a 2001 Subaru Forester s turbo SF5 manual i lost it too rust ! Already want another was £1500! Spent about £1400 1500 ish on it then subframe fell off got 10 months and 11,000 miles was a tank in snow
The RAV4 beat the Forester by a year and the CRV came out the same year as Forester. Both destroyed the Forester in sales. They also didn't have the headgasket issues or ringland issues. However, the aftermarket has been a lot kinder to the Forester, and the Subaru Forester XT is a hella fun ride. Gotta love the turbo. As for jokes, I get the vape comments all the time when people find out I drive a 2018 WRX.
As someone who owns a 16 STI and a 18 Forester XT, The forester is way more practical, at the price of cheap quality. If you’ve got 25k for a forester or a STI id get the STI, unless you need the practicality
Just got a 04 XT, and I swear nothing really beats serving the 18 y/o in the BMW 320i a couple of car lenghts on the highway, while I'm hauling my winter tires in the back.
My first one was a 04 xs 5 speed. Great little 2.5 motor and Obsidian Black Pearl color code, lowerd, tint, sti exhuast with uel headers and some suspension mod to improve the handling was great. Now i have a 04 Xt 5 speed, 2in lifty boi, 15x8 Bassett wheels on 215x75, supporting mod for a vf48 on 19psi. Great daily jumping curb with no care.
Owner of slightly lifted 5th gen - wife lets me modify as long as she can drive it to yoga on Monday! Damn you called that. Also called that I regretted not getting the turbo - so i bought a WRX.
Let it be said that I take college classes so you were scarily accurate. Right before watching this was talking about putting his wrx suspension on the fozzy. Saw this video and we were laughing how accurate it was. Thanks for the vid!
I felt that Suburban gas tank comment so hard. There were a couple times where I was filling up my dad's Suburban and the pump stopped before the tank was full because they stopped at $100 😖
Should do a so you want series for new releases. In the market for 200 to 300 hp sedan And there's some that are specific to the last 2 years. Would love to see yalls take on the new forte gt or the guilia
My last car was an 06 Legacy GT. Years ago when I was able to get a brand new car I thought about getting a 16 WRX. Decided on a new as it it only had 9 miles after the test drive 16 Forester XT instead. It's been the best decision I could have ever made. All of the utility and practicality in a sorta quick car. I've moved three times and it's handled it like a champ. Sierra Nevada crossings are easy. Daily to work and road trips are a comfortaboe breeze. Tons of mods keep coming as the SJ platform gets older. The only downsides to the SJXT chassis is cheap seat material in the premium trim and the limiting CVT. But as a daily it's absolutely perfect. Glad I didn't get the WRX.
Man I love these things, I wanna get one for a first car eventually lol, maybe save up for a WRX suspension and a newer exhaust or something, get that rumble going. And it's practical! Anyways, loved the video! I'm glad to see you guys do one on it.
Came out in 98, first gen not turbocharged, folding rear seats, and sunroof came around for 2000. I own one. S model. Heated seats, power Windows, locks and leather seats. a.c. and the bad part is the Mazda transmission. It is a 4eat, which sucks bfdd. If you buy one, try for a manual transmission. 14 gallon gas tank though. Water pump is ran by the timing belt,so if you replace the pump, replace the belt and tensioner with it. It's recommended. Despite the transmission and the water pump, it is a good vehicle to own.
I have a 2015 forester xt touring and iv used 2015 wrx parts just put on ividia r400 exhaust and put a 2015 wrx bpv. I just started to mod it. I put a cobb tune on it. I love it. And i been hitting 20-21 psi.
Just got my (2nd gen SG09) XT back from the garage. My one is a little bit 'tired' and it showed before my newly discovered garage Kingham's of Croydon (who are brilliant btw) got hold of it and cleaned out the throttle body and injector system, now it feels like it has gained some horses :-) :-) My one has an STI intercooler/Y-pipe fitted plus cold air filter and a taller hood scoop from a "bugeye" Imprezza, slightly lowered on Pedders coilovers, happy days :-)
Good vid. I have had my forester xt for a year now. I live is GA and had to have a manual turbo without rust. So i flew to LA to get mine and drove back with a buddy. Was a blast and would do it again.
I made a huge jump and bought one today, only my step dad has seen it, and I’m going to go pick it up tomorrow, I am beyond excited It’s a 2005 forester XT manual
My mom gave me her old subaru forester xt 2 years ago! I slammed it, put some enkeis on it, fresh black paint job, 25% tints, and man do I wish any of this was true.
4:06 Not technically the second gen, in the US from 1998-2002 the Forester was sold under the SF code, meaning the what they refer to in the video as the second gen is actually just the Facelift of the SF or first gen forester. The facelift was actually very similar to the pre facelift SF Forester, the only differences being offer paint colors, wheels, slight rework of the rear taillights make them shorter and wider (Leaving the same opening, instead adding a plastic piece to the housing and cutting holes into the tailgate), plastic headlights and slightly different grill. Mechanically they were exactly the same running the EJ251 engine (slightly different setup than the 98, but 99-02 are the same). Also, a slight note about trim levels. The first gen was offered in two trims L and S, L being lower and S being upper. What he said about the lower trim was accurate, it was a basic car, but the lower trim had optional Leather Seats. The upper trim, S, like the L, came standard with mostly the same features, slightly nicer exterior cladding though. The S, like the L had optional leather, but came standard with nicer fabrics. The heated seats, however, did not come standard on the S. While the vast majority have it, it was actually part of what was called the Cold Weather Package, which was nearly universally sold on all S models, and included heated seats, mirrors, front windshield and a snow wiper. As far as the super premium ones, those are incredibly rare, but they had sunroof and fake wood trim inside.
My grandma owns a 2nd gen forester xt in rally blue. Completely stock.. she has a cooler car than me.(genesis coupe). Someday I'm gonna get her some OEM gold s204s, down pipe and bov. She loves it! Also has a lead foot haha, too bad its auto.
I personally own just a normal old 2.0 na 5spd first gen and even that’s a blast to drive around on sticky tyres. Imagine a first gen GT forester on the same setup
Ohhh this what i really want. The legacy and foresters are the famous here in the caribbean. Just like stock height small rims and stretched tires 😂😂😂☠
I have a '05 fxt, downpipe, sti top mount, vf39 turbo swap, intake, ebcs on a pro tune, with it about 1' lower than stock on sparco wheels. lots of fun, kind of a sleeper though, basically no one thinks of it as a fast car.
This is why I love Subaru's they are even more like Legos than Hondas. There are so many build options and engine options. You have an n/a 2.5l and want to turbo it. Drop a 2.2l block in between the heads to lower the compression. Or if you want to keep it n/a put the 2.2l heads on with some cams and get like 11:1 compression. You have a 90's impreza just about every suspension or drivetrain part is interchangeable up to 06 ish.
My family and I drove from Florida to Colorado and back ofc and not a single problem and in the winter time. Started right up in 10 degree weather. Could tell many stories of that trip.
Pretty sure the bronco was the first commercially successful suv considering it coined the phrase suv. Then the success was recreated in the early 90's with the explorer getting 4 doors. But sure, why not make it seem like Subaru was the first to do it.
i used to have one of these as my first car. 2001 subaru forester. these things are indestructible 2 wrecks and mismatched panels but all the damage was cosmetic. thing could take a licking and keep on ticking

Only second gen got a turbo in America, first gen was only in japan.
never have i wanted something more than a 2nd gen turbo forester as my first car
Best thing is, your parents won’t know something is special about it. They’ll just think it’s an SUV or wagon like any else
I’ve waited so long for this episode!! Keep up the good work
I made a huge jump and bought one today, only my step dad has seen it, and I’m going to go pick it up tomorrow, I am beyond excited
It’s a 2005 forester XT manual
Use to have a manual, really miss it sometimes! But it can be a pain for sure. -Edgar
8 days after getting one, had to relieve it from a bad owner, 2006 xs, manual turbo. happy af
I love that this video has reached 5k likes without a dislike.
I love my Forester. Fun to drive, practical, and looks amazing. I want to one more of them.
you should do a so you want a e90 or a f30
Thanks for making this 2 weeks after I bought one
Driving my second Forester and I am satisfied with driving Forester, very dependable.
These intros get me so hyped
2nd gens look sick lifted as well.
My mom had a forester. I lowkey miss that car
Idk if this is perfect timing, but the G&G Subaru Forester sti swapped is for sale🤣
That hype music makes me wish my car was worthy of it
I have a '05 fxt, downpipe, sti top mount, vf39 turbo swap, intake, ebcs on a pro tune, with it about 1' lower than stock on sparco wheels. lots of fun, kind of a sleeper though, basically no one thinks of it as a fast car.
I’m just a 12 year old that loves cars and watching this channel
From an SG5 owner... ITS A WAGON!
Been waiting for this for awhile
Alex is just so damn charismatic and entertaining.
That intro music is TIMELESS 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Pretty sure the bronco was the first commercially successful suv considering it coined the phrase suv. Then the success was recreated in the early 90's with the explorer getting 4 doors. But sure, why not make it seem like Subaru was the first to do it.
Amazing video, Alex has the mind of a poet and rambles on like J. D. Salinger, Can really make u picture exactly what he is saying
I’ve had an 08 XT since ‘18 i absolutely love that thing
i used to have one of these as my first car. 2001 subaru forester. these things are indestructible 2 wrecks and mismatched panels but all the damage was cosmetic. thing could take a licking and keep on ticking
