- When Embraer introduced the phenom 100 in 2008, customers loved it, but they wanted the same design in a bigger airframe, something that can travel faster, farther, and more comfortable, so Embraer began designing the Phenom 300 in 2009. This aircraft is designed to “stretch the limits of the light jet segment by creating an airplane with best-in-class performance, comfort, and utility while keeping operating costs at turboprop levels.” The Phenom 300 was so successful in that regard that it has been the best-selling light business jet worldwide since its introduction.

EMBRAER was created as part of an existing school of Engineering ITA, which still exists. Two of my uncles were full professors of engineering there. The university still exists; it is extremely competitive for admissions. It is located about 40 Km from São Paulo.
I've met some ITA graduates, highly intelligent and capable engineers. Some of them also worked for Mectron, now SIATT. Brazil's engineering tech punches above it's weight for sure. Unicamp's partnership with TSMC and Qualcomm is also impressive 👍.
ITA's admission tests are kind of unecessary though. They require too much specific knowledge from students that they would otherwise just learn on the first six months of college.

In one hand Brazilians must be proud of its achievement, specially considering that in Brazil we dont have the top Indians, Iranians, Russians, Chinese and Latin-american minds in our labs as it is the case of US. In another hand, many brazilians, a minority but still millions, supports policies like that which seek to sell our best gems to foreign countries.

As a Canadian, even more, as a Quebecois, Embraer as always been for me the sworn enemy, everlasting competitor of our beloved Bombardier. Each time Bombardier would lose or win a contract, or introduce a new product, it seems it was always against Embraer.

Embraer is a company created inside CTA, Centro Tecnológico Aeroespacial, São José dos Campos, São Paulo. Amongst many institutes creating research education and develop of technologies and military air force activities in that Center, Embraer took off after being privatised in 1990s and started to reach higher achievements with more fluidity as a private company. To crown that state of art Center of technology, there's ITA Institute of Aeronautics and Technologies, forming Aeronautics engineers mechanic and electric engineers. It is one of most hard and difficult universities in Brasil to enter and graduate, best students have the chance to go to the market or join Embraer. It's really one of the reasons why Embraer is so successful and will be in the future.
The Phenom 300 is in general definitely way ahead of the CJ3 and 4

Do you mean STOL? VTOL is vertical take off and landing, which would be rather shocking.

@@Blue-op6qv heh, you couldn't with just two engines, classic in a cruise postion private jet, at least 4 with afterburners, in fare lift up altitude, its feasable, most of what is in demand on the vtol, is a faster cruise flights. Electric keeps promising quieter, yet wagers cruise direction speed. Of bulk size engines.

It's amazing how many beautiful aircraft are also excellent.
I've always admired all the technologies of aircraft and rockets, an interesting fact that the man who founded EMBRAER, Ozires Silva, when he was a plane pilot, really and officially pursued the famous night of ufos in Brazil in São José dos Campos by the aeronautics of Brazil , after that, they made EMBRAER in this place, , I always research planes and technologies, in 2018 ufo that I saw in my window, it was a solid ball of light that was stuck in the air, it rose in a second into space, without wings, without rockets , and without making the explosion of speed of sound noise .... it was very fast and unbelievable

When they bring a Cirrus jet to or flight school to demonstrate the plane it almost did not take off , they did use a little bit of the grass before maneging to lift. The problem is here in Brasil , really hot and humidy , soo the low atmospheric pressure and density was just enought to the cirrus to generate enought lift.
I truly believe plus 3 degrees Celcius it would had happen a disaster that day.

I don't know why only embraer and bombardier dominate this market, but it's amazing.
For me the ideal jet would be a combination of the Embraer Phenom 500 and the Pilatus PC 24. (The high tech and roomy interior of the Phenom 500 and the versatility of the PC 2, able to land almost everywhere!)

This aircraft caused Cessna to introduce the Gen2 CJ4. Both great aircraft. If I had the choice CJ4 Gen2 - cross model type rating and better global support.

If I am not mistaken, in recent years, the support offered by Embraer regarding the business jets is the benchmark in the market.

The sad part is that we are never taught this in Brazil. All our achievements are valued by other countries, but not ours...
Also, Brazil has a long history with aviation: Bartolomeu de Gusmão, Santos Dumont (this man spent his life developing new technologies for aviation) and then we got Embraer.
Embraer is every day on the news in Brazil, you just do not read them. Also, the company is not "our achievement" as it is a private company - you can, in fact, buy its shares on the stock market (I do). What is the point of celebrating other people's work achievements just because you live in the same country as them? Go get your own achievements.
ill be honest, working on exec jets i hate most american ones. They are a pain to work on and are insufferable for going over budget. The phenoms are quite, phenomenal, haha. Its much nicer to work on.

The twin turboprop Piaggio flies nearly as fast, as far, and as high, but uses less fuel. And carries the same number of passengers. About $11mil USD for Phenom 300, $8mil USD for the Piaggio. You know a good deal when you see one.

Yep. And swept wings can in theory can also push mach 0.8-0.95. :) It's a shame this plane only goes mach 0.8. lol.. That's slower than an Airbus A340.
@@thatguyalex2835 thats actually not a bad thing, since a small jet like this is not supposed to be used in really long flights, it being a bit slower makes it more fuel efficient
@@klaus120 Yeah, fuel efficiency is also important. :) More so than speed, but mach 0.9 or higher would be awesome. If only we could have both great fuel economy and speed.

The Cirrus jet is basically the replacement for the piston twin aircraft that will never be built again.
I don’t think anyone views a vlj turbojet as a twin piston replacement. Its got different flight envelopes and acts as a stepping stone into bigger better things.
