Why does it seem America is the only nation with Stolen Valour?. Perhaps it is because Americans sickly glorifies the military, even though most if not all are volunteer.
@Ambient I think its not as simple as not wanting to do training. It's the sickly obsession Americans has with their military. Many if not all of these cases seem to be mental illness. I never see this any other place in the world. I myself did a year in the Norwegian military (compulsory/drafted) as a medic but ive never seen anybody here in Norway get thanked for doing their time in service. So i find it funny that just because you serve in the military (remember Americans mostly volunteer, not get drafted) expect a thanks or respect for it. The American obsession with the military is creating stolen valour.
This is fuckin true! I was at a Hotel bar in UAE last year and some guy sitting next to my friend and I suddenly started talking to us. Guess what? He was retired UAE Special Forces... Of Course!

My son, a disabled vet, and myself, a disabled vet, we were having a beer at a favorite place in our neighborhood and encountered one. He was a soup sandwich. First, he had on Air Force utility uniform, long hair, needed a shave two days prior, and in a bar in a field uniform after hours. He is being loud and talking like he was Audie Murphy and some mythical bad ass. I had a few beers in me so I let him have it. This bar is full of vets quite often. I told him to go home, take the uniform off, and burn it. The owner, a retired Army grunt Sgt 1st Class, asked what the issue was. He told the young puke to get out and do not come back. He was more mad than I was. My son is in a wheel chair wanted to whip him good but we stopped that. That has been my only event like that. For the life of me I do not know why these idiots do this crap. I did what was expected of me the best I could and my back surgeries caused me to retire. I did 26 years in the Army and would do it again. My son had reenlisted and lost his lower left leg in an IED blast. He is proud to have served honorably. He loved the Army. It hurts I guess because these guys just shit on all of us by claiming achievements they never could have done. They need to be confronted. It must stop.

He claims he got injured because his riser failed and popped, I was airborne and I can tell you, that it is safety, you can`t pop a riser has long has your body weight is on the chute while you are descending, popping risers can only happen when you hit the ground, we pull them if we are being dragged by the wind, if it does not pop and we get dragged, the rigger would be in big trouble, and wouldn`t pack chutes again. Riggers hate you if you pop your risers, because it makes more work for them to untangle the chute.
i remember Fallujah when i was in the Marines.. but it was just our old timers telling us it was going to be a major battle in USMC history.. i was stationed in Hawaii at the time so lucky me I guess???
Would just shake head and ignore them, not argue. In the UK we were told not to wear our uniform don't wear it it makes you a target. I've seen a few guys in smart looking uniform when I was in St Louis, near an airbase, I expect that's allowed and they to a man looked like nothing other than the real deal, beautiful uniforms smart as all hell modern where ours are deliberately old fashioned. What're the rules in the USA?
Only thing close was where I talked to a signals officer a staff Sgt and a few signalmen at a motorway service station I recognised the cap badge and went to bore them about our older generation Comms equipment but their vehicles were obviously picking up diesel they were just waiting around getting a coffee. Made me smile seeing the 2nd Lieutenant in charge pretty much the youngest of the lot, tough gig straight out of University.
@Charles Szasz that's insane, I studied the Vietnam War at University and was upset at the experiences of veterans returning home, I can't imagine us returning to this situation now, it's sickening.
My son is recently graduated from the navy's OCS at OTCN and is now an Ensign. He is currently stationed in Charleston, SC waiting for the next Nuclear Propulsion class to open up. After about a year of training on the reactors he will then go to sub school in Groton, CT and try to earn his gold dolphins. We are super proud of this young man! He has had to work incredibly hard to get to this point. He took only 4 years to get through Colorado School of Mines and earn his Mechanical Engineering degree. A feat unto itself, but he wanted to serve and chose the Navy and the silent service. To get into the nuclear propulsion program he had to take a bunch of technical tests and exams then sit across the desk from a 4 star admiral and explain why he wanted into the program. He did all of that because he felt like this was his calling. Hell, he didn't even want to wear his khaki uniform with his one ribbon and single bar on the plane to come home for a month or so. No need as his military ID is enough. So to see these idiots doing this crap and actually experiencing one of these morons first hand, I have always found stolen valor incredibly distasteful, madding and so disrespectful. My father was also in the Navy and served during the Korean war. He was trained to hunt subs from the air and was assigned to the USS Oriskany (last minute change and he never got to go and serve on the Big O). And now that my son is part of the US military, putting in the effort and doing the work, makes it even worse for me. What kind of slime bag needs to do this? Disgusting...
Notice the way that in less than 5 minutes Jeremy's military service went from 12 Years to 14 years this is because he lives in a time travel Paradox where he has actually spent time as a police officer and an army veteran of special forces in another dimension

I was accused of stolen valor, I was just out of ait and was told I had to fly to post in uniform. I felt like an idiot as it was, was confronted by this chick wondering where my unit patches were her husband told her to chill that I was just an e2. No one from my unit was there, so here I was an E2, no idea where I was suppose to go in seatac. Only thing I knew was Fort Lewis, and my flight. These OCS girls saw me as a deer in headlights and helped me get where I needed to be

You're absolutely correct about the grooming standards. I'm retired and I now have long hair and a beard. If I ever decide to put my uniform on again for a ceremony, funeral, or anything else, I will definitely shave and get a haircut first.
People who have never served don’t realize that real service members don’t like to wear the uniform when they’re not on duty. And when we travel on official govt service, we’re not allowed to travel in uniform. The only permitted wearing of uniform when traveling is when basic training graduates return home But I used to keep a wall locker full of uniforms at my unit. I would show up civilian clothes and change into my PTs or uniform and before I went home, I changed back into my civvies. Some dudes might go to Walmart or something in their uniform on their way home but service members can’t wait to change out of their uniform when they’re done for the day. And they certainly don’t walk around on the weekends in their uniform. Unless they were on some sort of duty, why would they. As proud as I am of the uniform as a symbol, it was very much work attire and what do most people do when they’re done with work, they get out of their work attire as fast as possible Real veterans don’t walk around in their old uniforms. I mean, I still use my ruck and some of my gear for camping. Sometimes I wear my pt shorts to the gym. At most, I’ll wear an old unit T-shirt when I work out. But I sold all my uniforms to a surplus store and kept one set just for the memories I’ll never understand those stolen valor idiots. And they deserve everything coming to them-loss of job, loss of friends, hell even loss of wife. The last guy I met stealing some valor was funny. He was telling me how he was fighting the VA for benefits for his war wounds. He tells me about all the combat he was in and it all sounded so convincing. Then he messed up and told me his age. He would have been about 12 years old to be where he said he was. I didn't say a word and let him ramble on. Even gave him a beer just to hear more. I thanked him, shook his hand and everything. I wanted to call him out the entire time. Instead I let him go on for an hour. Best lies I think I ever heard. He originally came over to buy a good used vehicle I had. Seen my POW MIA flag and tried to play my sympathies. He left without the vehicle to get money to pay for it. When he came back, I told him I sold it for more while he was gone. He was pissed. I lied too. I felt zero remorse for it either. I did sell the vehicle later, just not to a liar. Even came way down on the price.

Do not waste time on just somebody in clothing. Certain patches displayed or representing other significant merits or awards ir service. Wrong. The main issue is if using for gain. Then it's illegal. If I still had some of my camos. Which was usually for hunting. And was getting someone in my face. I'd ask nicely first to leave me alone. Then the little no one I am. Is not taking it. These individuals have no special rights to acost anyone. If a crime is being commuted report it. Not your job if you served or someone you know served. You are being a bully. To clarify. I went to Canada last year to do a WWII re-enactment, before we headed out to the site for the re-enactment/living history display, my buddy and I went to a Tim Hortons for coffee and a sandwich. I had my 101st Airborn dress uniform on with the overseas cap folded in the waist belt, and he was wearing a German Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger uniform. A young girl working there approached us as she was wiping tables off and thanked us for "(our) service". The Stolen valor act of 2013 says it’s illegal to wear medals, uniforms & etc if deceiving people for profit and personal gain. Now the 2005 law originally, YES it was illegal to wear uniforms, medals, Purple Hearts if not awarded to you, and also to say that you were in the military when you were not. But again the Courts ruled that it was unconstitutional and violated freedom of speech and expression in 2012, now it’s illegal to do all of so if you’re trying to get money and discounts and so-on.
You can for sure wear any camo uniform. If you go hunting or whatever that's a legitimate reason to wear it. It's when you put on patches, trying to get free stuff etc. Then you're too far along.
@@JamesonsTravels exactly when people go on about not wearing the camo that's just too far imho. Like sometimes these videos feel like eveyrone who wears the camo gets barrated for stolen valor.
I mean I don't know how this works in the US. They patrol train stations and public places very frequently to check if the active soldiers behave in public. No need to get screwed by an MP over nothing.
@@chillmaster66 Nah my point was more that just wearing the camo itself doens't constitute stolen valor to me. There's use cases for camo besides impersonating a member of the armed forces such as hunting. And that sometimes in these videos to me it feels like people already get jumped for wearing solely the camo without any harmful intent. I've legit seen videos and heard stories of people getting videotaped and shamed for wearing an old AF woodland camo pattern because they were hunting in the woods. That's too far. If someone wears that stuff and then tries to get a free drink, better spots or upgrades or whatever then you can make the case for it being stolen valor. But merely the camo and walking around, how weird and bad it might look. Doens't fall through with that in my opinion.

@@vikingtu Sorry if this is off topic. But would you say being a cop gives the true feeling of justice. Im currently looking to join the Nypd but have two sided stories.

I jumped in Fallujah everytime a round went off.
i remember Fallujah when i was in the Marines.. but it was just our old timers telling us it was going to be a major battle in USMC history.. i was stationed in Hawaii at the time so lucky me I guess???

A real marine would never even think of explaining himself.
Why don’t these dudes just put as much effort as they do into lying, into something worth being proud of? Wtf
@Nellie Rutten you make yourself look "too" dumb.

The only permitted wearing of uniform when traveling is when basic training graduates return home
But I used to keep a wall locker full of uniforms at my unit. As proud as I am of the uniform as a symbol, it was very much work attire and what do most people do when they’re done with work, they get out of their work attire as fast as possible
Real veterans don’t walk around in their old uniforms. I mean, I still use my ruck and some of my gear for camping. Sometimes I wear my pt shorts to the gym. At most, I’ll wear an old unit T-shirt when I work out. But I sold all my uniforms to a surplus store and kept one set just for the memories
I’ll never understand those stolen valor idiots. And they deserve everything coming to them-loss of job, loss of friends, hell even loss of wife.

@MS NPC You can't disrespect those who have already surrendered their honor and undermined the liberties of the people by serving in a peacetime standing army. We need to dispense with the notion that there is anything, whatsoever, respectable about serving in a standing army in time of peace.
'Always remember that an armed and trained militia is the firmest bulwark of republics-that without standing armies their liberty can never be in danger, nor with large ones safe.' -- James Madison.

I caught that also. And possibly rated it since he was in school. You think the vet would have caught that. Lol
If it was a vet messing with the high schooler. He was just being an ass on a power trip. He could push that kid around. According to what your wearing and how your representing yourself. Clothing is not illegal. Army and navy surplus stores are not in business for our military personnel. And also the individuals I know that have done military duties. To clarify. Unless illegal. Your being an ass to bother someone. If illegal report it and be a better gitizen- human - or the best air breather you can be.
Rant add on. Why do so many stick noes in others business when not their concern or issue. But if someone needs genuine intervention "help" it's the last thing they would contribute. I guess mind your own business is gone. Help someone in need us gone. I hope someday I can just live up to being a decent person. I'm not wanting to be a hero.
@@InTheWasteland101 If he was wearing that patch and was in school then he would be in college. When wearing that patch in college you are considered contracted, meaning you are E-5 pay grade and are technically in the military. She was quite sincere, but we looked at each other and he chuckled, apologizing in a pretty Canadian fashion, "Soory dear, but this is a German WWII uniform." She seemed a bit embarrassed about her momentary gaffe 😁
That's funny 😂... My brother did WW2 re-enactment as well. There was a German officer from WW2 who cried when he saw the performance. He said it was the first time I saw something where they weren't portayed As "Bad guys" (maybe referring to all Germans being portrayed as only pure heartless monsters during the war.) but rather a nation at at war.
In Canada we have very few people in Military service compared to the U. S. Most of us do not know anything about the military.
You can for sure wear any camo uniform. If you go hunting or whatever that's a legitimate reason to wear it. It's when you put on patches, trying to get free stuff etc. Then you're too far along.
agreed. i could care less about camo etc. patches if velcro, I dont know a military guy who would wear them. leave that to the active guys.
@@JamesonsTravels exactly when people go on about not wearing the camo that's just too far imho. Like sometimes these videos feel like eveyrone who wears the camo gets barrated for stolen valor.
I mean I don't know how this works in the US. But in europe I would never wear the camo stuff in public again, especially not with the patches on, just to prevent having to deal with the military police. They patrol train stations and public places very frequently to check if the active soldiers behave in public. No need to get screwed by an MP over nothing.
Depends on the patches, if its an American flag or moral patch than obviously you're not impersonating a member of the armed forces.
