First sentences to my heart. Owned a td4 here in germany few years ago and my family and me will keep this british iconic car roadworthy for the rest of our lives. Our nine year old Kids will get it after we passed out. The only vehicle i would change it against would be one of your spitfires
It’s great to see Boris looking so smart. Your preparation certainly paid off. Cheers for filming the work and well done all. Here’s wishing you all the best for 2024 and I look forward to seeing your adventures.
Right on man. Boris is looking great. I certainly appreciate people trying to keep old iron running as I also own an older Jeep YJ. It's a 1995 and I just love it. The simplicity of it compared to today's vehicles is quite refreshing when you're facing big jobs like replacing a bulkhead. Awesome job.
Great work lads, great when you have Ben on side and josh lending a hand.Bens face when you said the bracket was on the wrong way round was priceless. Great job lads and worthwhile keeping Borris alive.great video cheers.
Excellent. Some fantastic info in there. 'Dorothy' is at a very crucial stage of her life, where the ancent battles of heart and head are all consuming. Lots of questions being asked about chassis replacement and this moves us nicely onto the reality that the bulkhead is not great (appalling...). How much can we keep? What will remain? Side lockers? Seat boxes? Roof? Do we build a camper to rent, or turn our pet into a rag-top beach cruiser? How do we accommodate a child? WIll we add AC? Or do we move on... Yikes.
Hi guys I’m ordering my new bulkhead from Des @ dds next month. I don’t suppose you have a list of the parts you ordered available do you ? Thanks Rich
Brilliant video! Outcome looks fantastic, and I’d live you to do a cost breakdown video - certainly considering a similar project and it would be really insightful.
Really great work mate. Very enjoyable video to watch!! I have to replace the bulkhead on my series 3 and I’m hoping it’ll be a little bit easier than this. What a huge improvement it is as well.
Just wondering on why you didn't replace the wiring loom with a new one? I would imagine the fuse box and some of the connections are quite rusty and would save you a job down the line. Keep up the good work though.
As usual a great video. Thankfully not a job needed yet on my Puma 110, but seeing how hidden the rust is I dread to think what the real condition of my bulkhead is….😮. Long live Boris!
ive got a 1989 110 and its prob in better nick than most newer ones ex army chassis never seen a welding torch in its life was so good when i got it i got it galvanised and waxoiled the inside to death same as bulkhead and its still mint, galv is showing its age now but i may strip it again and do a full chassis paint with 2k just to keep it going its getting close to 40 years old ,gonna put puma doors on it soon ordering 4 sets front and second row doors i am changing all the doors on my landies lol yes ive go the bug just finnishing an m57 auto so should be fun
_Excellent_ video. It is pretty miserable to have to strip the Land Rover down like that. But at least it _can_ be done. Most classic cars, you'd be totally screwed. With the Land Rover you always have the opportunity to repair, and it's just down to how much effort you want to put in. My Land Rover is for life - provided the Government doesn't shift us all off the road altogether. So for me the effort is fine provided I can keep on chugging.
Thing is, there's not much point selling one Defender and replacing it with another one because it'll just cost you a heap of money, you'll inherit a bunch of new problems and, in return (at best), you'll get a very similar vehicle with a different engine. Once you own one, and spend some money on it, you might as well stick with it. Better the devil you know, and all that.
@@BorisTheDefender As a biker, you might appreciate this... I bought a scruffy Ducati 916 for £2500 10 years ago. Sold it for £4000 and felt pretty good about it... until I decided I might get another one last year! 😳 Similar thing with Defenders, though. Whatever you paid, whenever you bought it, and however much you've spent on it, you're NEVER going to get another one for less money.
It's absolutely astounding that in all the time the series Land Rovers and their later offshoots were in production Land Rover did sweet FA to minimize or eliminate the rusted bulkhead problem. In so many ways Land Rover gave sales away to Toyota.
I have never heard of anyone replacing bulkhead on a car. Why do they produce rustbuckets in the midlands. Because they want to be BRITISH!!!??? I have had Soguns, Landcruisers, etc. Replacement of a bulkhead or chassis was ever necessary. Is owning a rust wagon a cult????
We bought 2 brand new landrover 90S in 1990 and 1991,it almost bankrupted our company.Thank god we bought a fourtrak or we would have gone under landrovers are the worst engineered vehicals ever made. They constantly broke down every day from brand new ,absolutely hopeless ,this is why farmers turned there back on landrover.

Defenders are worth preserving. They are still admired and much loved. Great video, im sure i'll have mine to do in the near future.

Really well done Mate! You all made that look easy! Fancy a trip to the US to come swap one out on Lucy?? Looking forward to your adventures in 2024.
Great video mate! Glad to see Boris will be alive forever!
Absolutely Brilliant video! Credit to you, Ben and the lads and what a mission! But he looks even better now 👏 massive relief 😅

What a job! But what a change! Nice work! Excited to see more on boris 👍
Wow the new bulkhead looks amazing
Awesome always worthwhile doing repairs as they are forever trucks ❤
I did this on the side of a road in Crystal palace many years ago! much to the ammusement of my neighbours! would have loved a shed to do it in! :D
Oh to have a workspace like that 😍 I’m stuck with a drive and a couple axel stands for my projects 🤣
Brilliant video! Outcome looks fantastic, and I’d live you to do a cost breakdown video - certainly considering a similar project and it would be really insightful.

Nice overview of the process! Thanks! Why didn't you go for a galv one?

You’ve got to stop somewhere haha 😜
Amazing job well done. 👌 I would have never guessed it was such a big job. I have a TD5 now I’m worried about checking my bulk head!! 😱
great work. I'm in the middle of doing mine.

Hi what make of wax did you use to treat the new bulkhead
Good stuff!.... Given my mate something to think about about regarding his Tithonus bulkhead swap😊
Great video Jack!

Excellent work guys! 👏👏
Could you point me in the right direction for the radio dash housing?
Great job well done guys
Fab.
Where did you buy the bulkhead sound deadening kit from? X
Could you tell me the product of the navigation system and how to install it
How do you make the thumb nail change from when you first published video to now?? Great vid so far btw!
Job WELl DONE!!
Looks amazing!!
you did an amazing work
Looks great!
Great work
Looks good.
Is your chassis in good condition? Or will you be changing that too.
Also... is it worth doing bulkhead and chassis at the same time?
Great video 👍
That will be coming in the next few years. It’s not good. I would say from what I’ve heard it’s best to do them one at a time. 👍
1 at a tike for the cost or time and stress? 😂
Recomend doing bulkhead first then? @@BorisTheDefender
Do you got the details for your mates garage that did the bulk head swap?
Yeah sure, instagram is in the description and his number is 07522 200013
Lol i also found a spoon in mine also two pairs of sun glasses a toy car and lego blocks.
Nice! Now you need some fluid film or equivalent on that thing so it doesn’t happen again.

Great job and very worth while but would love to know the total cost of the full job as i bet it was Bank Breaking 😳😳😮💨😮💨
Thanks for this video 33:38
Nice!
Great!
Finally!!!’
👍
Good one😅
I thought that these defenders were aluminum bodied ... I guess not.

Yep, the bulkhead was the reason I had to swap my 300tdi for a Toyota. Quote to replace was about $12k in Australia 4 years ago.
