If this guy was working for me I would give him a raise just for the amount of effort he puts into the job! I deal with lazy people every day. Nobody wants to take pride in there job and work hard these days.
Im at a coop for cars / trucks but want to get into diesel .. I have been told at 16 i take more pride in brakes . Oil changes , or just simple learning than other mechanics over the years .. Funny to iv been told i look like a punk to , guess its just hard to find people like me . Do it right the first time
It's a worldwide generation that want more money for less work , been at it for over 50 plus years and I still want to go to work and provide for my family
Dude, you are one of the best I've seen. I noticed on this change those aluminum rims are facing down with the good side of rim on the concrete. I have a nice tour bus rv and had my front tires replaced. When I got to the shop the face of the rims were down, the good side was scratched like hell due to the shop putting the rim on bare ground and wrestling to get the tire off which messed up the rims. My rims were imaculent and I polish them once a year with a machine, button line they had to buy me new rims, I was f- ing pissed when I saw the messed up rims. The metal rims are not a big deal but those polished rims on a 2 million dollar bus is a whole different story, just my thoughts. Keep up the good work.
I do you have protective blankets and pads to lay wheels on but for this job in was not necessary. Ive worked on many custom trucks and motor coaches and with those job I use thick moving blankets to lay the wheels on and I will use my dismount tool to avoid any scratches. If for any reason I have to use bars I use leather protectors which snap on to the lip of the rim. Thanks for watching
I was thinking the same thing at first.. But if hes that quick at it, hes done enough to know when a rim is going to get scratched. So I stated to guess it just didnt matter on this job. And it was just a video of speed and power.
That is a bomb technician doing fine work! I don't much care for a graphite handled hammer though. I use my trusty slide hammer but I am not trying to critique a fellow tire changer! I have changed truck and farm for 24 years and it is a rough job as you age!! I used to change 20-30 on an average summer day but it kills me now to go over 12-13 on the road. Good job brother!!
That's good to know, this was a large tire place in Tampa that messed my rims up and put beads in the tires which did nothing and when Michelin say them they went nuts and paid to have them taken out. I had the worst experience on getting new tires and trying to get them balanced. Dolly Partons bus was also there getting new tires too, I'm sure she had a great ride back home.
that's true, so I usually use my heavy body weight to break the bead sometimes. But then there are times when I have used the sledgehammer, it takes a lot of practice to not fuck up a rim, but it gets the job down a lot faster.
What about cleaning the rim up of old rubber and gunk that causes future leaks? I always use a wire brush or air powered wire wheel to clean up my beads before mounting...
Not at all, I've been changing these tires for 6 years and not once have I had a problem with them sealing. At 100-110psi they will seal with the mounting compound plus helps when rim is clear of rush and corrosion
Damn where was this guy when I needed two tires changed, the TA (Travel Centers of America) Truck Stop/Shop guy took 1:45 mins to do the two from start to finish, pulling the wheels off the truck and torquing them back on.
yeh it's pretty good here, the mining industies is huge, they fly you from major citys to the mine sites.the most common shift is 2weeks on 1week off.i get about 55k just working at a tyre shop in town 38hrs per week
A super single isn't bad. As for the temp, you live in that state, nothing to do with a tire. Weather has nothing to do with changing a tire. Also, road side has nothing to with tire changing. These are circumstances that work at you and your job, not changing a tire itself. Changing a 22.5, 24.5, or super single is easy, unless abnormal wear, weather, or other factors are preventing it from being easy. A new rim, new tire, and new valve stem is so easy anyone can do it.
lmao super singles suck what make it even worse they should try doing the ling long brand super singles split rims suck as well especially if they are older
Truck tires are pretty easy to change, lots of flexibility. Try changing low profile car tires, cant even flex the tire enough to get it in the drop center.
limiting factor is always the air. You can always get the tire changed over quicker then you can put air in it. So change one over, blast it, get it on the air. Use a restraining device (t lock) in the tailgate is what I use) move on to the next one, by the time you;'ve got the second one changed over the first one is at 100 psi. I've had hydralic jacks fail on me so I always use a jackstand
kenneth kunie It looks like Gaither's Super Slick 'em but some people just use washing up liquid mixed with water. It all goes down to preference. When I was a fitter I used to prefer Graisse Tigre as it made less mess.
The best juice to use for dismounting and mounting is soapy water, a little dish soap or car wash soap & water and it makes for an easy job. Been using this method for 35 yrs.
i used to be 20 once, i did tires for 27 years, good for you young man good job, thumbs up, but whats the difference between how much you made in an hour , an what your boss made?
It's a good idea to balance but not necessary on most. I always recommend balancing the steer tires only after they have been run a short time. The reason being is that the mounting lube has dried and the tire beads are well seated. +Geographer 4 fun (AlvaGeo)
You do that pretty well but you might want to use some sort of protection-safety glasses( soap water or debris in your eyes) ear protection ( loud noise or explosion from a defective tire) and if those rims were polished I work it from the other side sorry just my 2 cents work safe
i do, but i'm sure the salary changes from country or state to state ect. all depends if you have alot of import or export going on around you i'm sure. where i am there's a mix of things that go on... lots of loaders and graters for winter with semi trucks during the winter and for summer lots of farm tires and semi tires.
Gee you think that guy has done that a time or two....I don't know of any machine out there that can compete with him. Go my man Go, damn he is good....Ken
Not really, once you do it for a while, it gets to the point that it's easy. Just try changing the same tire all you can for a week or so, your balance will improve and you'll learn how to position yourself better.
Na, just learn how to do it properly. Lift with the bars and your knees, not your back. I promise you, dismounting it properly, you can do it in 30 mins, from truck being jacked up to torquing the lugs back in about two and a half months. In a week you won't have problems mounting or dismounting. You'll just be slow. Don't doubt yourself! I've seen small women do it. :P
I always use a slide bar and Gaither tool for removing tyres from rims. Id never use levers on alloys and have never laid them straight on the ground. This bloke is good but if he did that to a truckies polished alloys here in west oz he'd never hear the end of it.
aluminum wheels, drop centre is in the middle, I used to change those backwards so the outside face would have no marks at all....And his speed, not that impressive... You change over 2, start airing, and air and change at the same time
I work it from the other side and lay a thick mat or mud flap down first though I still use tubeless bars but at my age I use 3 bars for ease of demounting (165lbs and age 62) waiting for my golden tool . I work from a 2.50X4 to a 45/65X45 tire
BreeBree Cris so if after you finish airing it up how do you mount it back without getting close ?? that part you never think of you must use a 20 foot bar and impact gun tires can explode at any time !!!
When buying your first set of tire removal tools is it better to buy this type "bars" or the curvy "golden / snake" type. This kind looks to be more expensive and a little harder to use but take up less space. I've seen the other kind go for a little cheaper and it seems they are easier to use. kinda like standard vs automatic transmission
+tiorobot These bars can used for a verity of different size tires and are way cheaper. As for the golden tool it is limited to the basic tubeless truck tires plus it's a bit pricey. I do carry the tool and it does make changing truck tires easier. But I would definitely get bars as the first choice. Check out my "Tire changing basics" video as I demonstrate those tools. Thanks for watching
that sounds awesome, dude I need to look into moving into Australia, i'm making chump change here in the U.S. only thing that would hold me back is 1) I heard Australians aren't quite fond of foreigners 2) every goddam spider over is the size of my head and/or deadly as hell.
your good no doubt but you can sacrifice qaulity of the job for speed. you need to clean the rims up some with a wire brush or air powered wire wheel. I have the same panter bead seater at work man lol
stupid people saying shit but i can tell hes doing a 4men job god damn in all its glory da fuck you talk about rims damage if those rims cant even stand such id defiantly wouldnt recommend them to any truck. other then that all ive seen is a knowledge of years of experience thank you sir for this perfect dance.

Chirs Thornton He never cleans up the bead of the rim before mounting new tires...that is lazy, you always prep the surface before sealing a new tire on. Otherwise it will leak air...
and another thing the part of the rim that is on the ground no one see's and on top of it get fucked up on its on from the two rims meeting togather so before you go judging learn your shit exspecially since you said your dad has done it 35+ years

That's fast, I work on passenger tires which are tricky enough, this is another level
that's true, so I usually use my heavy body weight to break the bead sometimes. But then there are times when I have used the sledgehammer, it takes a lot of practice to not fuck up a rim, but it gets the job down a lot faster.
Australia is pretty much the same as the US...theres preople from everywhere here, most people are friendly and laid back.
I missed what he was doing just couldn't take my eyes off the dubs on the old f150...brilliant
Whatever they are paying this guy it's not enough he deserves a raise, or he should start his own business.
What about cleaning the rim up of old rubber and gunk that causes future leaks? I always use a wire brush or air powered wire wheel to clean up my beads before mounting...
Is there much risk of getting dirt in bead so tire does'nt seal?
Not at all, I've been changing these tires for 6 years and not once have I had a problem with them sealing. At 100-110psi they will seal with the mounting compound plus helps when rim is clear of rush and corrosion
+Chris Rooney the most trouble I've had are cold tires and low profile 22.5 but dirt is never an issue for me either
thats whats up! you got it down homie.
Damn where was this guy when I needed two tires changed, the TA (Travel Centers of America) Truck Stop/Shop guy took 1:45 mins to do the two from start to finish, pulling the wheels off the truck and torquing them back on.

true. just depends on the guy and training. personally use two and hammer never been beat lol
what happens if you hit the rim with that hammer will it chip the rim?
where can you get those equipment for changing those tires?
i used to be 20 once, i did tires for 27 years, good for you young man good job, thumbs up, but whats the difference between how much you made in an hour , an what your boss made?

It's a good idea to balance but not necessary on most. I always recommend balancing the steer tires only after they have been run a short time. The reason being is that the mounting lube has dried and the tire beads are well seated. +Geographer 4 fun (AlvaGeo)

Used gasoline in a jug for lube to dismount tires. It does dry after dismount.
Such a badass video.
way to clean the rim and change valve stem or o-ring oh and way to change the out sides on the nice side. but other wise pretty fast.

I agree, missing the cleaning step of the rim bead is very important to avoid future leaking.
i like you profesi,i m from indonesia
where is your tire cage and I don't see a jack stand under the axle? what would OSHA say?
tire cage doesn't avoid nothing, any way you'll be in touch with the tire when you put it in the truck
I'm yet to see any mobile fitter use a cage.
I use no cage, it gets in my way. I do it just like the dude in this video actually.
