- Hey kids, what's up?
It's been a while, hasn't it? To sum up the start of this video, I've been away perfecting my craft yet again. This video will reveal an upcoming update for not one, but TWO projects and marks the first of my videos having a new editing style!
In the gameplay part of this video, you will see a ton of new animations, new FOV slider (faster you go, FOV increases), new camera height (no more floor camera like SA1/2!), sound design, object layouts, minor texture changes, new voicelines for Sonic and a more consistent UI (new Item Box & Chaos Drive UI).
You'll also notice slope physics have been restored! SA1/2 has a set intensity value for this. SA2 suffers from on/off slope physics, so I increased the slope intensity, but not to the max so you don't go too fast. Characters feel more natural to play with in the new build, which you'll see in July.

Of course! All model, animation & geometry work was done in Blender. There’s a Blender addon developed by Justin113D called “Blender SA I/O”. You can use that to import/export SA files.

This has to be one of the first mods of a videogame I genuinely felt has looked natural and like what an official remake would make it look like.
Usually mods feel out of place in most games, but this feels right.

I love the squish animation for the Bounce Bracelet!
This is very good! It feels like what the original developers of SA2 intended it to look like. However, I don’t know if it’s possible to fix but I think the render distance is too low; I can see things pop in. And the snowboard Sonic has for City Escape is invisible. Despite those two issues; it looks very good!
Subbed for that fantastic Shadow skating animation alone.

Also I CAN'T with Shadow run cycle animation. LOL He looks so goofy when air skating. I do appreciate that, even though his hands and outer foot sticks so far, his leg movements are a lot more like in SA2 at least. And when he first starts off, it's very SA2. I'm just a stickler for how almost none of his skating animation looks good since SA2's which just really cool. I'm actually rather worried about how goofy if not stale his skating will look in the Sonic movie 3...
I love all of the work you have done with the game but always take care of yourself first man you deserve it but I want to ask a question when you finished the project will you also make modern Sonic adventure 1 you don't need to but I will love to see it anyways keep it up man ❤

Modern SA1 isn’t going to be a thing. After MSA2, I’m moving onto something more ambitious. We’ll still support MSA2 with DLC, but it won’t be the focus after its complete release.
Project looks good, I love all the music revamps and the new models. It's so good
the only major problem I see with it is how Sonic doesn't feel like he's designed for the levels anymore. I see him hit the invisible ceiling a lot in City Escape because of the speed increase, and the GUN truck is not even a threat because Sonic is so fricken fast.
I wouldn't change Sonic's speed because that's one my favorite parts about the mod, but the level layouts and sizes might need adjusting. Making the level bigger can help, but a better thing imo is to add more top routes. Sonic is already flying into the air so why not throw some enemies and springs up there to reward people for destroying the level. Awesome work my guy, Good luck on the project

I’d recommend lowering Sonic’s top speed/acceleration as he’s quickly flying past set pieces in the level which he couldn’t really do in the original game.

The level extension idea for White Jungle certainly caught me off guard, but I very well enjoyed it! Are you planning an extension of Sky Rail as well because of how short it is?
Hoppy’s going to be making a start on Sky Rail’s new geometry later on. This stage is a priority as the original’s is too short and is too easy to beat lool

Better Miles crashes with MSA2, but the rest can work when I get around to animating for those characters and getting their models sorted out!

Yup! Hoppy increased the camera height so it doesn’t hug the floor, increased default FOV to 60 and added an FOV slider, so the faster you go, the higher the FOV.
I don't know if this has ever been brought up, but is it possible that the increased speed & acceleration in the modded physics might be a bit too extreme as times?
Because I remember when testing the Radical Highway demo that Shadow could feel a little too fast sometimes and that the inner tube that contains multiple springs would bug out so that Shadow would instantly fall in the death pit and die.
So multiple players would have to come up with other ways to get past that tube in order to complete the stage.
Has there been any talks or mentions of a configurable option in the mod manager that would let players choose between the updated physics and the vanilla ones?
So that people who prefer the slower physics can still enjoy other benefits of Modern SA2 like the improved, more expressive and squishy animations?
I haven't tried Modern SA2 later after the initial release of the Radical Highway demo with Shadow, so if all that has already been addressed, then I simply haven't read up on it.

I’ve nerfed the speeds a lot since that old demo we put out. The recent 2.1 Trial build that’s been out for a while introduced the slower physics. I have nerfed them again but just a tad bit so the new slope physics intensity isn’t going to make you go too fast. I’m considering nerfing the top speeds again, but I’ll need further testing on that.

I think it's great the updated physics has been nerfed quite a bit and that it may be nerfed just a little again. So that it's not quite too punishing for newcomers or less experienced Sonic players.
While I do appreciate the higher speeds due the mod trying to bring the Modern Sonic essence of speed in SA2, it doesn't always seem like the SA2 stages handles it as well.
In City Escape and Radical Highway you would start to see the mod break the level design a little bit, especially City Escape due to how narrower it feels like with the increased speed. Some stages seems to handle the updated physics really well though.
Green Forest and White Jungle, I was surprised how well it could take higher speeds. Likely due to them being more open and slightly wider by design compared to the two previously mentioned stages.
I think to be honest remakes is probably close to being well done. I think the only thing you can do now is not remaking but adding more content. New moves , new levels , new bosses, and then hope to send it to someone to Sega and ask to help do the remake like whitehead. I think it would be awesome if somehow Sega noticed you and hired you
Someone tag SEGA so they can hire them. I can completely see SA3 being real. With their work it can be the best modern Sonic ever!
I have a few questions.
Can we turn off the custom Voices and keep them the same as the old ones in the options?
Can we Flick between new and old hud? Will the HUD options be avaliable too? so I could keep some of the old parts like the life and Speed up Icons,But keep the Blue Squares around it.
Can we have an option to flick between the Old levels and the new ones? I want to keep the new levels but knowing me I would love to Play the old stages with the new Lookin Sonic and Shadow.
Can we change the colour of the jump ball? Its a little odd looking, I swear there are parts that are just white in it, I would love to make it alot darker with an option or atleast mod it myself for that.
Are there any difrences with the Speed everyone is running at because of the Incressed FPS, Or is this a thing that was already acoplished with other SA2 Mods.
When this mod comes out, Do we have to have a already finished story mode save or is this mod safe to play story mode with, asking because I know a few mods that crash story mode and you will have to have a save with every level already finished.
Will the multiplayer/battle mode come with this mod when it comes out or will we have to wait or a battle version like the last one?
Will there be any extra changes to the chao garden like better looking Chaos or diffrent racing stages? Probably not but still gonna ask it.
Are the scroes for A ranks going to be tweeked or are the levels so close too the sourse that it does not matter?

Thank you for your comment! I’ll address these in order.
1, 2, 3 and 4) Regarding a configuration file, we’re only adding necessary toggles to the config.
4 cont.) There’s no white colour in the jump aura. Sonic uses a lighter blue-purple as a highlight and Shadow uses an orange highlight. If you’ve used the SA2 ball effects in P-06, you’ll notice I coloured mine very similar to how ChaosX did.
5) SA2, like all Sonic games, runs at 60fps (even on Dreamcast, albeit 58fps most of the time). I have changed the physics, yes. Slightly faster air speeds, buffed ground speeds, slightly higher jumps and more intense slope physics. I might nerf the ground speed again as it can get a little too fast where not needed, though I’ll need to test this more.
6) Save files are not affected by this mod. You can start a fresh save and it’ll work when it’s all done (Mini Events and obtaining upgrades will crash the game as I haven’t animated them). We’re not doing anything too crazy to require a whole new save. Story mode isn’t going to be touched as it’s too much work for one guy to handle + it’s not time well spent. MSA2’s a concept mod, so it’ll only be the stages and in-game cutscenes (Mini Events) that’ll be changed.
7) Battle mode is a weird one. Due to how animations are loaded and how the game handles this, Battle mode isn’t going to fully work for the speed and hunter characters. Amy’s model setup is a little different to Sonic, Shadow and Metal and because of that, it means any shared animations won’t work on her, so I’ll have to animate everything again for Amy with a chance of it not working properly.
8) Chao Gardens will be fully done after Enhanced Chao World 1.5 is released as it’ll make it easy for me to make my gardens compatible with ECW.
9) Rankings may be changed later down the line. It’s something we want to do, but it isn’t a priority as of now. We need to have everything functioning before focusing on the smaller stuff.

Just one LAST LAST question! Do you need the battle DLC to play as any of the battle characters in Stage Select? I saw in the video when selecting a stage a little dropdown menu like the chao garden would show off everyone, Most people have the DLC but I just wanted to check haha.

I appreciate that, thank you! It’s not all me (it’s around 60-70% me I think). Hoppy helps with MSA2 and Starlight helps with Unleashed Redux, so it’s not too bad to be honest
I’m not too sure if Battle DLC is required to use Battle characters via Stage Select, so I can’t give you an answer. Luckily, this game is dirt cheap so you’re alright buying it on Steam if that’s an issue.

Looks fucking rad but I will say the one stupid nitpicky thing that really bugs me for no reason is that the radio chatter and sonic dialogue at the beginning of city escape doesn’t end right before the lyrics start like in the original, but in the grand scheme of things who cares lol

Only two things I would probably say is maybe make the jump ball flicker a bit, kinda like it did in SA1 so you see the 3D model spinning with the texture ball not being kinda flat-looking? Also Shadow's skating animation has never really sat right with me post-SA2. That being said his full speed in SA2 is also kinda nonsensical looking. I like the idea of him kinda just gliding effortlessly with the SA2 posing, but instead of having him swinging wildly to and fro it's more like a slow, controlled pace? I dunno, that's just my hot take at least.

I’m surprised I missed that! I knew Sonic Team timed it for when you land in City Escape. I must have overlooked that when playing vanilla SA2. I’ll delay the track so it’s timed perfectly when the player hits the floor. Thanks for sharing that with me!

I’ll be able to properly work on the Chao Gardens later on. Shaddatic’s going to introduce an API to make it easy to make custom gardens compatible with Enhanced Chao World, which we’ll be taking advantage of once they’re done with the update!
So far, I have the Hero Garden roughly done. Grass effects, new textures and vertex paint.

Reality: There’s only two developers, as stated in the video and I’m the one handling animations, so no. Too much work for one man and it wouldn’t be worth it.
It’s a harsh expectation of one guy, so please try not to hold anyone to insane expectations, alright? Folks will do what they can within reason.

I can’t get the pops and bangs in, as BlackBox set hard limits on a lot of sounds. Turbo sounds need reworking too, then there’s the sound mixing. After all that, I can push it!

I’m not aware of Expert Mode. However, if that changes stage layouts, please do not use that with MSA2!
@TheeMentorDex you should check out the mod man it's really good level design like smart fun level design it doesn't change the layouts merely the object placement I think
@elibonham4388 Yeah that’s the object layouts then. At the most, we’re probably going to stick with changing the base layouts and the hard mode layouts. An expert mode would take a long time, so I’m not sure if we’d be able to do that.

I still don't vibe with the audio changes in this mod, to be honest, mainly the voice acting. Hoping it's all toggleable (or it doesn't get in the way of the JP voices in case I use that).

The only reason I haven’t got this mod is because of the voice acting. I appreciate his hard work but at least give me a feature to turn off the new voices and I’ll play this.
Yea but I honestly think this is the better sonic then Roger Cray Smith I mean if they had a better voice material this could’ve been the better sonic if they had more resources

Some of the music choices are really weird. Why live and learn for invincibility? Why the... Mode select music for stage finished wut. It's not that epic.
These are placeholders for the time being as we don’t have new compositions available for these tracks. We’ll be working on the OST in a few months 👌🏼
