      They’re a life saver. I always knew I wanted one but it took years for me to get one. I had to restore it but it works.

    As always- Bravo Tony! Liked the dialing in process for the guard slot- good rabbit to run there!

    Hi Tony,
    beautiful work and tutorial as always!
    May I ask you a question? Warning, it's a newbie one and may be a little bit weird...
    I've always seen 416 used to make guards and I wonder why it is used instead of 316 or 304... Doesn't 416 need to be heat treated to be corrosion resistant/stainless, which adds another step in the process?

      Thanks. 416 is very machinable. It comes fully annealed. I’ve never heat treated it for corrosion resistant properties. It will rust if left un kept but so will a good stainless blade. 316 and 304 is hard to work with and it’s gummy when machining. 416 was made for machining with the added sulphur. It’s why most bladesmiths use it.

    Was thinking about investing in a mini mill. I have never used one before and I was wondering can you get by without a DRO. I am not very technical so I don’t even know if I could hook it up. lol Anyway I really appreciate your advice and videos. Where did you buy the rotary tool?

    • @TonySeverioKnives
      @TonySeverioKnives  2 місяці тому

      Yes you can. You just have to cut and measure or use the dial marks on the x,y and Z axes. That’s how it was done for a century before digital read out. The rotary tool used in that vid was from a company called Phalanx. They sent it to me to review on TikTok. It’s in my TikTok shop.

      I just got a taig mini mill and I'm computer illiterate myself. I just cut 4 guard slots for the first time and I can't believe how much I love it
