On TE3 it was practically pure copy (only some measures changed to metric),with 10 cylinders and 2000hp,but then they developed 3000hp diesel for TE10. Originally, they packed 3000hp into 12 cylinders (by introduction of turbochargers),and first test examples of TE10 loco had such diesel. Then somebody decided that it would be OK to pack 3000hp into 10 cylinders with only minor changes to supercharge,to save an amount of metal, and 10-cyl. was committed for all TE10* series. You see the result :)
What the Bloody Heck are they burning in this thing, ground up tires!!!!???? This thing makes a Deltic look clean enough to pass a 2012 Emissions Test!!!! :)
Cool sight and sound and a great video too. I'm not a train enthusiast myself but would definetly take a photo of these locos at work if I would have a chance...
My god! Move over Alco PA's, say hello to the new honorary steam engines of the world! Do engines in Russia ever receive any maintenance? Ive never seen a cloud of diesel smoke so big that it envelops a whole town like that! As much as i like clag, i would NOT like to be on the other side of the tracks when those beasts past. Great video, the lighting really highlights the massive smoke show.
Incredible Great Video of Real Railwaying. In North America, Coupled with Good Electrical Gear like Westinghouse, they did their Job well and took the Abuse of Low Speed Drag Service that would Bring a GM to a Stop. Sadly, most RRs Hated the Upper and Lower Crankshaft Design and Maintenance Suffered Accordingly. Upper Crankshaft had to be Removed to Change One Cylinder Liner, or All. Adequate Engine Cooling Water was always a Factor as Exhaust Manifolds on F-M OPs were Water Cooled.
@eshieldx 30 years is nothing for a diesel loco. Just look at the german V200 or the BR 218. Some of them were built in the 50s, and they do not smoke like that...
I rest my case. I think we have a communication problem here.... If you wanna know what freight locomotives Germany has, you can google BR185, BR152, BR140, BR151 or BR155. Further there are in use: Taurus, the American Class 66, the old Russian Ludmilla (but maintained and not smoking therefore)and many more.
What a smoker! At 1:00, is that the engine's max RPM? Judging off of the sound, it seems like it. One thing is for certain, I do love the sound of the 10 Cylinder drone. Never heard one in person but it sounds heavenly.
They have two-stoke heavy-weight diesel motors that hadn't been properly maintained for a long time, but still works fine - no one's concerned about the smoke. They're like the AK-47 - you can drag that thing around in the mud or dust for hours, it would still work. Not as accurate as it would be just after cleaning, but still working. These engines are the same...
But you are aware that I´ve talked about the enviromental standards of Germany? Further I hope you are aware that the loco in the video isn´t a German one, right? My main issue was your formulation "rest of the world" in connection with the "high" enviromental standards of the USA. If you talk to somebody from Switzerland or Germany about "high enviromental standards of the USA" you will probably see laughing people...
@1susel Uzbekistańczycy poskładali metodą domową u siebie 4 sztuki lokomotyw cztero-członowych i mają 4TE10M ! I to oni wygrywają obecnie ten ranking! :)
problem odchwaszczania torowiska mają z głowy a linie telefoniczne? mają też nieźle zakonserwowane :D ano i odchodzi konieczność karczowania lasu pod przyszłą linię :D szit :) niezły DIESEL POWER :)
I THINK theyve not read the clean air act by Marx , no not the Karl dude , Groucho. They should have read "the party of the first part dies of smoke inhalation by the party of the second part " I rest my case your honour !
@22fret Not comparable things. And V200 retired many years ago. =)) Put your V200 in heavy freight service in Siberia conditions with poor maintenance. Ha-ha. I want to see it, really! These TE10 have very old 10D100 diesel. Diesel originally from USA Fairbanks-Morse company copied in USSR after WWII for TE3 locomotives. For new TE10 series they took again this diesel, but improve its with new more powerful turbocharger. Power was increased from 2000 (TE3) to 3000 h.p. (TE10), but....
@22fret but this turbo is weakest thing in this loco. Very unreliable thing and need punctual and often maintenance. Depots not want to do it properly, unfortunately. And here we can see "good" example of this maintenance. Turbocharger is heavily coked and dirty and turbine can`t provide enough air for fuel. As a result too reach fuel mixture is not burned completely in cylinders, and is thrown out with a large amount of soot.
These diesel locomotives are emitting huge, enormous amounts of smoke, not at all normal for diesels. Is something wrong?
@bignikguitars +1000.

were not talking about the track system.. we are talking about the THICK BLACK SMOKE!!
Those are really old locomotives and realy need to be serviced!
What the Bloody Heck are they burning in this thing, ground up tires!!!!????

The first unit in the loco almost seems to be running idle compared to the second and third...

The USA Now has Hybrid locomotives and is making rail roading more CLEAN to use. Like to see the rest of the world do the same!
Speechless!! Utterly speechless!!!!
Georgeous video recording!
I rest my case.

great sounds - bit like a cross between a Deltic and a GM 2-stroke
Now I understand why Moscow is in a middle of a smoke cloud.
What a smoker! At 1:00, is that the engine's max RPM? Judging off of the sound, it seems like it. One thing is for certain, I do love the sound of the 10 Cylinder drone. Never heard one in person but it sounds heavenly.
What are they burning - old cooking oil?

The back two are working hard but the front loco just seems to be making a smoke screen!
Awesome video!

Super film ! Subek poleciał 👍🕊️
Epic! :D
its soooooooooo beautiful!
*SOOT!* (awesome locomotives)
OMG!!i never seen huge smoke from russian train in beatiful sunset :)
five stars :))
Best regards from Poland /Cracow :)
Yes, it is based on TE3, while TE3's diesel IS a copy of FM from some ship, so don't tell people false. Soviets DID copy FM.
problem odchwaszczania torowiska mają z głowy a linie telefoniczne? mają też nieźle zakonserwowane :D ano i odchodzi konieczność karczowania lasu pod przyszłą linię :D szit :) niezły DIESEL POWER :)
@eshieldx what engine does it use? Russki Diesel? Kolomna?
10D100 opposed piston engine, ( Fairbanks Morse copy ).
Crazy! First i think it´s a steam locomotive! :D
Obviously, they weren't built for passenger services...

Not very well, are they? What are they burning, glorious high-quality tar?
U may be right but they all seem to smoke like this so I have a suspicion that theyre overfuelled to get power and maybe not that efficient?
Awesome, but too smoky. Would be a delight to many UK railfans but anyone who lived by the tracks would not like it!
Any chance of them rebulding the engines and making them more like Hybrids? Damn thing smoke worse than a steam train!
Sehr schönes Video! Very nice!
Fantastic! How do you so much of these engine? Is there any source u can recommend?
Thats a Bloody good thing!!!!
Beloit would be proud.
wow never seen locos smoke like that.
Definitiv: Die Einspritzpumpe ist verstellt! :-)
Such locomotives still run on a regular basis also in Baltic states which are considered now "civilized" by Western Society.
Don't look like they get much maintenance, to smoke this much.

lg Speed

These diesel locomotives are emitting huge, enormous amounts of smoke, not at all normal for diesels. Is something wrong?
Steam engines in the diesel bodys?
my God ! I thought this was a 2-8-8-8-2 !
That is what Icall a GOOD Clag
but how much gasoil they burn really it is amazing ....
Wow..
An honorary Alco
At least the paint is GREEN!
From far, one can mistaken it for a steam loco.
Heavy smokers ?
Greate!!!
Do they actually fix their locos in Russia??
time to upgrade dont you think
Very good movie!!!!! this must not see greenpeace.
so its not diesel you say??
Eat this, treehuggers... ;-) But seriously, is this a normal development of clag in Russian locos? Or is there something wrong?
Diesel? Did you said diesel? I thought it was a steam engine O_o
It seems to be steam-electrics instead of diesel-electrics... lots of smoke and steam...
They can just wire the route & sell the last diesel to the highest bidder.
I think there were just using for freight ! Kof kof !
Smoke that!
I think they are warren out. Maybe there burning crude.........?
Like
Zoltan Bebto from Hungary.
Now you all know what stardust is :D
No Euro5 Locs can Haul that much, thats for sure...
Crikey,
Cant all of us get together and give these poor soviets some of our old engines..........?
Caugh * caugh * even the old BR units cant make it THAT bad ... geeezzz !
what are they driving with? old deep fryer fat from McDonalds?
+austrorus No.. Old tractortires blended with flipflops, plasticbags and paint..
@bignikguitars +1000.

Gee!!! That far overpasses ALCO locos when speaking of smoke!!!!
ALCO LOCOMOTIVE!!!!!!!!
Nice video. Like me!🤩!
