- I often seem to find myself needing to plane a surface even with an adjacent surface. When trimming splines, or edge banding, etc.
I saw this in a woodworking magazine about a year ago. If you know what magazine and issue, please let me know and I'll attribute it here.
I love the idea with the magnets to hold the iron! well done!
+Wood Wright I wish I could take credit for that idea, but I believe it was part of the original article in the woodworking magazine (don't remember which publication it was).
very nice Dan! i really like the way it looks too! seems to work well. this is something i could get some use with.thanks for sharing!
Lie Nielsen makes one of these. They’re called Chisel Planes or Knife Planes. Should try making one of those too! They work great.
Love the shape of this!
I like the use of the block plane iron keeping it unmodified so you can still use the block plane.
very cool plane, now i need one
Nice idea.
Great idea
Do you live on a racetrack? Quite the noisy neighborhood.
Nice plane
+Jesus von Nazaret Yes, Seattle real estate being what it was when we bought the house, we jumped on the first house that was reasonable. I'd prefer something a little more... rural :-)
Are these squared pieces magnets? Genius! And such a beautiful thing.
They are, but to be clear, this was a design I saw in a woodworking magazine, not my own. Thanks for watching!
That isn't important, you did it so meticulously and the outcome is awesome.
Isn't this like a more beautiful kind of wide chisel, cos where I am working we use 30mm chisels for these kinda jobs. Nice looking tool!
Totally. I often use chisels when I have access for one. But I don't have any slicks, so often the handle interferes for me :-/
I like it but could you not achieve the same result with a chisel and block plane togrther
Great idea, what stops the blade falling out? Is it attached or sitting loose? If you pick the plane up does the blade fall off? in the
+Jon Parker I have to say, the idea's not mine -- it came from an issue of either Wood or Woodcraft magazine. There are two magnets in the bottom of the plane which keep it attached pretty well.
Ahhh magnets!
How do they work?
Hey, A flush trim plane would be great for cleaning up all that dried glue... oh, right
why not just leave the blade in the black plane with instead of going through all this crap and set the black plan for a very light cut
Why would someone ever write "all this crap"??? It's great that Dan made both the chisel plane and the video. If you have better things to do than watch the video, please do so. BTW, this plane can get into interior cabinet corners like no other.
