Razer the worst when it comes to planned obsolescence. It like putting a Lamborghini body kit on a ford pinto.
TheBaldr that and their high price tags
it wasnt so much "planned obsolescence" as it was "really shoddy workmanship." something like 2/3 of the machines simply broke in various ways that made them unusable, all still within their warranty periods. ill stick with the plastic asus myself. ive had a few of their hotter laptops in the past, and theyve always been dead nuts stable long past their actual performance lifespan. hell, i just retired a 2nd gen i7 RoG laptop 2 months ago, and only because some physical damage happened to the board.
@@TheBaldr My GF's been using her 2018 blade doing loads of heavy photoshop, Substance Painter and Maya work on it as well as daily driving it as only computer and it works as well as it did day 1. Budget gaming: If you save up a little more, you could buy a G14 instead of the one we're reviewing now.
Mid-tier gaming: This is a solid laptop, but if you're willing to sacrifice screen size for portability, you can buy a G14.
Premium gaming: This laptop is expensive but if you're willing to compromise a bit more, you could buy a G14 instead.
G14 is a beast t. Though and even I want one. Price vs performance ration? Check. Portability? Check. Raw power? Check. Bling for showing off? Hundreds of led lights check.
I wouldn't even say compromise to get a g14.

•Soldered RAM, preventing upgrades.
•It’s literally an oven. The temps are brutal, I’d be worried about longevity.

@@Yxorm_com Temps up to 100° are fine, because laptop cpus are build for high temps, so no problem. It is a very good laptop, because the cpus beats all Intel laptop chips, while sucking far less power. If it had better gpu options it would be the most powerfull laptop.
@TheGoat Even if it's "low power" Max Q it still requires a ton of cooling because, guess what, it still has more power than the 1650ti.
Also ASUS has an 8CORE cpu with HIGHER clock speed and at a lower price.
How can you deny all of that? Unless you're mainly looking for build quality and keyboard/touchpad then i would sorta understand.

The 2019 Razer Blade Stealth had a GTX 1650, yes there was a lower spec one with the MX, but the one I bought in December 2019 had a 1650.
Same here, the cpu is the only let down for performance. My cpu will be at 100% on skyrim special edition, but my gpu is at 54%. Cpu is defiantly a bottleneck with the 2019 version. Hope they do a firmware update to up the TDP for the cpu.
Every time you bring the G14 into the mix, I get more and more satisfied with my purchase of one.
I have heard it has pretty bad display response times, what is your experience so far, before I decide to buy one? Especially in games that are latency focused and fast paced like esports games.
Martin Pecár i bought a g14 and I havent noticed the response time much, though i dont play FPS’s. Its worth noting that its 25ms, not the 40ms claimed by some review sites.
@@martinpecar7683 of course a ips panel has more latency then a tn panel, but for a laptop, ips is actual important in compare to a monitor and thats why any new laptop has one.. if you rly considering this for esport games, you should get just a tn 144hz monitor or better hooked up with it or a desktop pc. if you dont plan a pro career, this laptop will satisfy with the ips benefits like color, brightness and viewing angle stability, you wont feel the latency except you playing on 240hz Tn panel professional (atleast 6 hours a day non stop gaming).
I don't play e-sports type games on this laptop, so I haven't really noticed any latency issues that hinder the games I like to play.
@@Xenoray1 I am a uni student, I am not really planning on going pro since I am enjoying the subject and I am currently already working in the industry and loving it. I just like a simple game of league or r6s. I am currently rocking an old lenovo laptop with a TN panel, really bad colours, viewing angles and even resolution and also I have an external monitor, which is fine in terms of viewing angles etc, but I have experienced some moments, where even my deutan eyes have seen some bad color representation on that one. I tried some calibration with a buddy, but it didn't really help. From time to time I do some light photo editing, astrophotography and family events and none of those monitors really do the job for me, when I know I cannot count on them. And I mean... Just as @Skyrimpersonified said, I was mainly worried about the 40ms numbers I've seen online.

I snagged a 2019 stealth to replace an Acer nitro 5 from years ago. It was awesome, but the price for performance felt really bad for my poor budget hunter heart. I took it back and managed to snag a G14, and, no question, it's the better laptop IMO.
Of course it has shit price to performance, every ultra book does. You can barely fit anything good in an ultrabook and anyone who buys it just needs it for portability.

This would have been the perfect laptop... Had they included an R9-4900HS or a R7-4800U instead of this quad-core.
The big problem is just that it only has 4 cores, the performance per core is pretty good on the i7-1065G7, but 4 cores vs 8 is just no-comparison...
ryzen 5 4600 would have been ample for this boi
Much cheaper too
AMD is relatively new when it comes to laptops so most laptop manufacturers had intended to use Intel with their laptops.
Also, the reason I bet this has a quad core CPU is for thermals
It's more the video card then the CPU. Yes, the CPU in the G14 is much faster, but in gaming it gets beat by much slower CPU's on a 1660 TI GPU (80w vs 65w GPU). So the CPU is very useful outside of gaming, but the GPU is really the decider for FPS.

I have the Razer in the 4k version (for the oh-so-crisp text!!!) and coming from a MBP, I would never even consider the Asus. It's low build quality, tacky looks, bad keyboard+trackpad, and comparatively chunky size are a complete no-go. The Razer has a poor trackpad compared to macs, but it's better than anything else running Windows, and I can game on a flight if I'm careful with the settings keeping power consumption under 60W then drag it straight into the office or a meeting for its primary use, which is definitely not gaming. With a Razer you’re taking a chance since like 1 out of 3 of their laptops are gonna have major problems. Plus their quality assurance and customer service is REALLY bad. No one should face this after spending anything over a $1000 on a laptop.
Overpriced and underpowered. I would like a G14 all the way
Alex btw amazing video!
It's so Stealthy that I can't seem to ever find it in my shopping cart
Buy the Zephyrus G14 instead
@@edwardb911 and fast as fuck!
@@edwardb911 Spoken like a guy who hasn't seen a single benchmark. The CPU is fast, yes.
@@edwardb911 the blade has an awful response time as well, slightly better but still poop
If you "cant aim" because its 60 fps, I think you just cant aim.......
Razer DID do everything right in terms of hardware, the only thing that they still didn't do right is pricing, still way too expensive for what you're getting. Would be a great laptop if it was priced around $1399 rather than $1799
The Zephyrus G14 is magnesium alloy, not plastic
Asus made their best risk by going with AMD and now they are the best of 2020
It would be great if it had AMD and Linux :)
Any idea what FPS monitoring software was he using?
G14 is great but has no webcam, which is kind of an deal breaker in the time we are in 😅
No one shopping for the 14" Asus Zephrus G14 wouldn't take a brand new, glorious Dell XPS 15. Similar hardware, much better build with all aluminum chassis n' no sacrificing screen realstate with it's 16x10 ratio. No AMD cpu though.. so, that's a win for the Asus, for sure. Maybe in 2021 Dell features models with either team red or blue chips? We can hope...
I'm honestly so confused about this take on things. If nobody would rather have a G14 over a XPS 15, then why is the G14 selling so well despite the XPS 15 being the same price?
Unless you're saying they wouldn't take one for free? I'd certainly take an XPS 15 if I was offered one for free, but I'd still spend my own money on the G14.
Magnesium Allow build on G14, not Plastic lol
the g14 is not plastic
the only razer product i have is the razer leviathan lmao
2:32 I choose to believe that this was someone's phone going off, rather than annoying background music.
I can't unhear it now....dangit
actually Linus bought the 2018 stealth
Last years model didn’t just have the mx150 there was also the 1650 model however no 120hz
Plagued by garbage Intel chips.
Why should anyone buy this over the g14
