- In Alex Trebek's long history of game shows, some of his most significant experience on the quiz side prior to Jeopardy! was his one year hosting the late 1970s revival of the $64,000 Question.
Here's a recently-discovered pitchfilm with various highlights (predominantly from Alex's season), with memorable contestants, big winners and the playoff where Barbara-Anne Eddy wins the top prize.

I had never viewed this video before.. and it has been more than 40 years since I was part of it... but it brought back a at least 64000 great memories. Thank you for sharing it.

what was your subject?
There were contestants on subjects like Beethoven or DiVinci or World History and all I could claim any real knowledge of was old TV shows (and 4 decades ago there were not a whole lot of them).
@@donbenn4878 Wow! I watched your episodes that are on UA-cam and some of those answers on the ones with the supporting characters, I can’t see how you came up with those. Also, if I may ask do either Buckskin, The Verdict is Yours, or even Navy Log still haunt you to this day? And I couldn’t believe in that question either those three shows mentioned you pulled The Peoples Choice out of nowhere. I may have to check some of those shows from your questions out. Hope you’re doing well, sir.

A TRUE TV Legend
Clips from the show's second season (1977-78 in Toronto), with Alex Trebek and announcer Sandy Hoyt. Its first season in New York (1976-77) was hosted by Mike Darow, along with announcer Alan Kalter.
The pitch film narrator was the legendary Jackson Beck.
Jackson Beck was best known as the voice of Bluto in the Popeye cartoons and as the narrator of the G.I. Joe animated series, as well as the voice of Little Caesars commercials.

Thanks so much for posting this montage of great clips from the great 1970's revival of the original "$64,000 Question". Enjoyed it when I was a little kid. And I enjoy Alex Trebek's energetic acknowledgment of the correct answer at 11:17 as much as I do the young woman's unbridled burst of excitement at 10:04 for her husband:) RIP Alex Trebek and Mike Darow.

I think it has to. KDOC in LA carried reruns in the early 80s.

I remember the show very well, watching it every Tuesday night for the first season, and every Wednesday night for the second season on WLKY Channel 32 in Louisville.
In Houston, TX on KHOU - CBS 11 Saturdays at 18:30. Los Angeles on KHJ (now KCAL) - Channel 9 Saturdays at 19:00.
And every Saturday night on WNEW (now FOX O&O WNYW) Channel 5 in New York. #TheChoiceIs5

Rerun rights to The $128,000 Question and its entire 2 season run now belong to CBS Television Distribution, and we knew there was not a 3rd season when it was not as popular as its predecessor, and after 2 seasons the series ended due to network winnings cap limits. And thanks for posting this highlights reel on The $128,000 Question.
Actually, Paramount Global now owns The $128,000 Question.
@@danalong1237 You're right on Dana Long, but CBS Television Distribution is now owned by ViacomCBS as the now owner of CBS Television Distribution owns the rerun rights to this game show in reruns.

Goodson Todman was dominating the sydnicated tv market (along with the daytime market) with hit shows such as match game and family feud.
A decade before Merv Griffin and King World took over with the launch of the syndicated versions of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Jason Beck who was best known as the radio voice on “Superman” and the voice of Bluto in the “Popeye” cartoons did the narration for this promo film for the “$128,000 Question” a revival of the “$64,000 Question”.
His name was Jackson Beck. He also narrated the theme of G.I. Joe.

Never saw this clip before - I just wish it lasted more than 2 seasons.
This was the attempt to make the show a five day a week version in syndication. Not enough stations signed on.

Sadly, Mike Darow passed away in 1996.

And the show didn't get a third season anyway. Barbara Anne Eddy won five games of Jeopardy! a decade later, and Alex remembered her and her good luck charm, and in 1989, she won a Scrabble T-Shirt as her clue was read in the show open.
