After unbolting the t-case, you can access a short bolt that holds the transmission to the block. I don’t know if perhaps I missed this in the video, but I don’t think you mentioned it. Thank you so much for this video, made removing my transmission possible
Excellent video. So glad that there is finally producing detailed in depth guides on how to remove these major components which we will all end up doing to our evos.
I had to do this back in September on jackstands as well.. Hardest most PITA parts were removing those damn CV shafts, the intermediate shafts, and actually getting the trans itself out. Next time around the CV and intermediate shafts will be easy.. Trans will still be a pain. oh and I am astonished you were able to get the trans out without jacking up your Evo more. It looks so low to the ground!
Agree on all fronts. I think my trans came out easier with the car as low as it is because i removed the front bumper and the entire driverside hub & lower control arm.
To him get to the hidden 14mm bolt between the transfer case and transmission you need to fully unbolt the 6 bolts on the transfer case and push it out of the way to accessible the 14mm bolt from the block to the transmission.
Thank you for making this, it doesn't seem as intimidating as I thought. A couple times in the vid I found myself thinking "If I'm taking that off, might as well replace this other thing while I'm in here" DId the numbers in my head, and it got expensive real fast lol
I actually did that... yes it added up... Whiteline steering precision cit, roll center correction kit, front sway bar... it didn't help that I installed a built 5 speed along with rebuilding my tcase and installing cams all at the same time. Doh.
John Lamb yea I was thinking about the whiteline roll center kit too as well as bushings. And if I’m already taking out the axles I was thinking of upgrading them too lol
For the rear motor mount, why are all three bolts needing to be removed? Why not just the long bolt through the rubber piece? What am I missing, thanks.
Probably too tight to get the trans out while leaving that side of the mount on. But you can certainly try it that way and see if you can still get the trans out.
Good stuff man as always. Its always a PITA doing it on jack stands. I had such a hard time with my buddy gettiing the 6 speed back up in there. When we did the last one. I've done about 5 evo clutch jobs now its never fun but key steps you pointed out have to get done or its impossible for anyone thats never done it before. The Harbor Frieght slide hammer kit can be modified also to get the intermediate shaft for all you guys actually reading comments.
Thanks. I almost bought a harbor freight slide hammer, but it seemed like too much money for something I would probably only use once or twice. How does it need to be modified? Same concept as my dent puller?
Yeah it looks like the m8 bolt is going to fit perfect with one the attachments but of course it didn't. I had to use a drill bit and open it up and it grabs right on top of the bolt head. I figured for 20 dollars or what ever I paid I'll have it in the tool box for when someone around me might need some help doing a Evo clutch job. I'm doing a motor build in the next year or so, everything will be coming out again so it'll get used again.
@@richardroberti1192 Thanks for the info. Now that i look on the Harbor Freight website, i see they have a $25 Slide hammer/puller. I would have grab that one had i found it. The only one i saw in store was the $70 slide hammer kit.
@boosted films where is the rectangular clutch inspection cover located, i cant seem to find it on mine...... cant find a picture on the forums either.
Thanks for the video 🤙 Bout to take out the gearbox in my evo 6.5 Mine doesn’t go in gear when the motor is running. Clutch slave moves in and out, but won’t go in gear. So thinking the bearing is cooked or the fork is bent
dude youre a life saver. i was going mad trying to figure out why i cant separate them and i only got my tcase 3/4 of the way out so i never saw the bolt.
Hi Paul, thanks fo rthe video. I have a evo 4 that needs a release bearing and am thinking of doing it myself. I know that while im in there I might as well replace the clutch so I am asking if indeed I can just replace the bearing and reinstall the clutch flywheel etc. Or do I need to resurface/machine the fly wheel etc??
Has anyone had issues with a seized TOB? My waveclip is clamped tight so I unbolted the pressure plate from under neath but when trying to break trans from engine it won’t budge
Hey, Paul.. Hoping to get a reply for what seems to me as a "dumb" question. After pulling the intermediate shaft at 10:38, Is that xcase (diaqueen) or trans fluid that comes out?
Paul, i was able to remove transmission, but it was very difficult, the transfer case gets on the way. I removed 3 motor mount then i had to lower the engine a as i lower the transmission but the transfer case finds its way towards the transmission and the transmission hangs on transfer case, the gears in the transfer case got a bit scratch :( ...... whats your technic?
helpppp!!!!!!!! how did you remove the rear motor mount??? whats the angle that you use for the swivel socket? ive been trying for 3 hours and the bolt wont move...... i used the suggested tool @ 20:12 and nothing it wont move :(

Julio Lucero it’s for your acd (active center differential). The line runs from your acd pump near the rear of the car up to the transfer case. You need to remove that line and then bleed your system when you re-install.
@@BoostedFilms Please excuse my ignorance. Its my First EVO ever, how would i bleed the system? Do you by any chance made a tutorial on that. Thank you
Literally the best and most indepth video of removing a gearbox from these evos. Thank you
Thank you for taking your time from your every day life and your family time for making this video! Cheers!

Always a great demonstration, thanks again

I wish you made a video on how to put

I'm not sure what part you are referring to. The rectangular rubber piece is part # MD746526
bolt a chain loop on the shaft and pry the chain the shaft will pop out !
Anther well done Vid. We appreciate you providing this type of EvO content
Thank you for the video. pulled my transmission yesterday :)
Great explanation on the throw out bearing. was very helpful
How to put it back in after i install the tran? I try to pull the shift fork but the bearing wont reclip it self
Then something else is wrong.
Thank you for posting these videos !.
great vid! thank you!
For a ACD transfer case, do you have to remove the pressure pipe from the ACD pump?
Respect for the information can you do a slower video how to remove the throw bearing.

Thx m8 :)
Why didn’t you mention anything about a hidden bolt between the transmission and transfer case ?
Awesome, thank you 👍
💪 for doing this in the winter w/o heat
also, dont know if you cover this in other video, but there is a bolt on the back of the motor at the same level of the bolt that is above the starter

why am i watching this i don't even own an evo

One more thing, the flywheel fell and hit the ground, do i need to get a new one?

Doesn’t popping the lower ball joint off break the seal?

Amazing video! thank you so much!
@ 20:06 is that different from a 9? It seems to be difficult getting a socket on the bottom bolt? I even removed the rear mount bushing .
How did you wind up dealing with this issue? I too cant seem to get at the bottom bolt.
If anyone is using this video as reference where the hidden transfer case bolt it’s blocked by an acd line. This is for an acd t-case.
Hii paul,
quick question is there any pilot bearing in the flywheel or crankcase for the tranny input shaft? Tq paul
Hey, Paul.. Hoping to get a reply for what seems to me as a "dumb" question. After pulling the intermediate shaft at 10:38, Is that xcase (diaqueen) or trans fluid that comes out?
No fluid really comes out after pulling the intermediate shaft. But its probably going to have some t-case gear oil on it.
