Hey Devin, it would be awesome if you raffled off a tour of your shop/ a day to hang out, get coffee from the stand then work on a project you are on. Thanks for all that you do!
To be honest from my experience with evo’s I always wondered the same thing with the rattle noise coming from the bottom of the car looked over multiple times could never figure it out until I switched over to the exedy twin disk with Oem flywheel not talking bad on ACT clutches cause I still rock with them until this day on other builds just thought I would let you know what worked out for me and had luck with Man every time I watch you’re videos makes me miss my yellow 8 worked super hard when I was 18 to make it a goal of mine to own one and it had to be yellow but yea I hope that helps.keep up the awesome content you’re killing it hard work really pays off much love from Colorado 💯👊🏽
Being a mechanic for several years, I know that the symptoms you describe (rattle goes away when clutch pedal is pushed in) about the rattling are the cause of a bad throw out bearing. I'm assuming you have a brand new OEM throw out bearing, maybe you need a stringer aftermarket one due to the strong twin disc clutch?
Mine would rattle no matter what on my dc5. Tried many different aftermarket ones. Once a went with a Tilton hydraulic setup, which is super sturdy, never heard it again.
My throw out bearing is bad and it’s a constant rattle unless the clutch is depressed. His is just on decel. Maybe it is the throw out bearing just starting to go bad?
When you come to re-fitting the head gasket, check that the head dowls aren't stopping the head fully seating. I've know this to be an issue on rebuilds before. Rare but worth a check!.
I don’t have an 8 or 9 but I’ll chime in since it’s related. I’m running a act 2900 kit on my 1g making 750+whp and 600ft/lbs and it’s holding just fine. Not sure that twin disk is REQUIRED for what you wanna make.
I think not having the balance shaft makes that noise that you have worse . I left mine in the motor cause i did not want the vibration cause it tends to loosen things up in the engine bay.
Nice work on the controls for heat control. 🎉 I’m celebrating my man always great stuff and sharing knowledge. I too struggle with the modifications on car debate often ask yourself is the clutch sound bearable or unbearable. You’ll figure it out brother 🔥🔥🔥
Mates evo 6 did it as well, the noise was a bit worse though. My old evo 7 was fine though on a single plate exedy (AU not JPN) heavy duty clutch. Won't be good enough for your build though. Can also try OEM Flywheel, i know R34 GTRs have decel noise with an aftermarket dual mass flywheel/clutch combo. Goes away with an OEM flywheel while still retaining the high hp clutch.
I've got a ND unsprung triple plate clutch in my 8, that's a noisy thing. Rattles somewhat when the clutch isn't pressed in. Then makes a horrendous noise when clutch is depressed. Just got to live with it if you want a high HP evo
I have the same kind of thing just on decel in my 07 civic si with the act hd street clutch. She hooks pretty good. Almost feels like that’s all the car wants to do
My quartermaster twin made a similar sound, although there was a lot of other sounds and vibrations so hard to pinpoint what was actually from the clutch.
Mine has an Exedy Twin and it sort of always made noise, I just always assumed that it was the cost of running the aggressive clutches. Cause, race car 😁
I have a 8 with a "stage 3" competition clutch and mine does it but it is not loud at all. You can hear it for sure with no music or anything but it is faint for me.
hi mate, need some advice if possible as you are the best person to ask. I have an evo 8 mr , running a hks v pro ecu , I'm looking to replace my tubular manifold which currently has the fittings for the sas system, the manifold I'm looking to change to doesn't have these fittings for the sas, my question is, would I be okay to remove the sas system to fit a new manifold and if so would I have any issues with having to remap or re tune my evo ? Any help would be appreciated 🙏
Have you checked the serpentine idler and tensioner pulley bearings for play? I had a decel rattle noise in an 8 and it turned out to be the tensioner bearing.
Got an 03 Evo 8 with built motor and twin disc clutch. It’s always made that exact noise on decel and it has always driven me absolutely nuts. Sounds horrible and anyone who rides with me is like wtf. From everything I read it’s totally normal for the car

Can you make bed spreads too and shower curtains lol jk
Evo: belt squeaks
Devin: I’ve slept on it and decided to pull the motor

And only happens in certain gear(s)?
@@monstershayne Could be his input shaft too... A lot of old manual transmissions are noisy.
@@JonHop1yeah I say input shaft bearing or some other bearing I don’t know the name of around there
Your channel's commitment and sincerity are truly special. Congratulations
Been fitting exedy twin plate clutches for a few years. Yes they rattle when the pedal is pressed but it’s a fit and forget clutch.
As a evo 9 owner, I love watching Devins vids. Very educational vids, thank u Devin
Ok
@@lcameeno1you must be one of those tree hugging hippies 😂😂😂
@@Wekeslayer ok

Great job Devin! I always enjoy the vids! Just copped some apparel!
I advised U to paint main gasket with special copper paint for gaskets when u start to assemble engine. I dont know if u saw my comment.
You shouldn’t need a kiggly trigger to run a haltech. I still run the oem trigger plate and sensor with an elite 2500
My 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer wagon, non evo, has cabin filter in the glove box, and everything spins freely and like brand new.

Amigo amó todos tus videos onque no sé nada de inglés te sigo desde hace 5años eres el mejor 👌

I have normal chatter on my exedy twin disk on my 9. When it gets warm it’s less noticeable.
I've got a ND unsprung triple plate clutch in my 8, that's a noisy thing. Rattles somewhat when the clutch isn't pressed in. Then makes a horrendous noise when clutch is depressed. Just got to live with it if you want a high HP evo
Twin plates are noisy mate but they hold good power. My mates in the same too
Run an exedy twin plate on my evo 7 and it only rattles when you push the clutch in not when its out, pull type clutch, hope this helps mate 🤙
I have the same kind of thing just on decel in my 07 civic si with the act hd street clutch. She hooks pretty good. Almost feels like that’s all the car wants to do
i have a fully built 8, i dont have that noise youre experiencing, im running an exedy twin disk
ACT clutches tend to chatter on decel. Well known and documented issue they just wont fix.
Uniclutch claims no rattle, holds all the power and feels like oe pp
I love oe pp
Got one in my boosted g37 and it’s very nice just bites very high in the pedal and has held up to the abuse
I have a fully built evo and i put a exedy twin disk and it makes no sounds shes mint
Same sound Devin. Evo 9, loud clutch chatter on deceleration.
It is still best to use oem clutch. But some aftermarket ones got some glitch too some needed to be grind
Mine makes some noise but not bad (Exedy twin)
My 04 was making 800whp with an Exedy Twin and made zero noise on decel.
Yes both of my 9s made the noise. My current 9 is louder than my original 9.
I used to own an 8 and it did the same rattle noise on decel although it was only noticeable in 3rd gear for the most part
My quartermaster twin made a similar sound, although there was a lot of other sounds and vibrations so hard to pinpoint what was actually from the clutch.
Evo 8 here 550whp with a exedy twin and I don’t have that issue sir!
I can’t recommend ACT clutches to anyone. Too many issues in my experience.
100% normal. Exedy, ACT, XClutch and Comp all do it.
I think it's the TOB tho not properly holding the clutch in place. When I went with a Hydraulic Tilton tob setup, thing was super quiet.
Mine has an Exedy Twin and it sort of always made noise, I just always assumed that it was the cost of running the aggressive clutches. Cause, race car 😁
Mine does it and I was hoping you were going to solve the mystery.
If i missed this my bad but are you running a lightened flywheel? If so move to an oe or heavier fw and that should get rid of the chatter on decel
Always educational. My 8 only had a single plate ACT, so I'm thinking the sound may be normal for dual/triple ?
Naw it’s pretty normal on ACT clutch kits especially when paired with lightened flywheels. Just fyi
Quartermaster twin disk with HOB for the win. Trade your rattle for twin disk rattle. Lol
Yes my buddys evo 9 makes an absurd amount of noise that sounds like failure of something but turn out to be “normal”
Man you guys should’ve made more skate decks!!!😤
Was the first mod on my Evo 8 adding a cabin filter.... all those years ago now.
Yes sir 8s and 9s all have clutch chatter with upgraded clutches
Up bro
Yes it is very normal for an act clutch to rattle like that 💪🏽
Exedy twin disk . You used to install them before.
Good time to double check the trueness of the mating surfaces maybe
My built to the hilt evo 8 had a exedy triple and sounded like that, prob a bit louder even. It is what is is lol
I have a 8 with a "stage 3" competition clutch and mine does it but it is not loud at all. You can hear it for sure with no music or anything but it is faint for me.
Maybe the clutch sounds louder than you’ve heard before because you’ve removed the firewall cover in the engine bay
Red calipers would fucking kill this build ❤❤
The exedy twin disc is a lot quieter
Yes my clutch master twin disc makes the same noise evo 8.
Bump for evo 👌
When I had a LWF in my e46 m3 NVH under deceleration was looooud
Exedy hd twin plate on Evo 9 running 700 no noise at all
That decel noise is from lightweight fly.
The upload today is early. Lets go.....💯💢💥👌💪
I wonder over time if the heat is what causes the blend door to get hard move because it's made of plastic.
In out in out in out . That engine has been out more times then a strippers snatch lol . Keep up the good work. Awesome build
Your videos stress me out. I could not keep my cool as much as you do
I have an Exedy twin disc and does same thing. Normal

My 05 srt4 has a stage 2 act clutch and it has crazy shutter clutch... it's probably a act clutch issue
Lmk if you decide to sell it.
Buddy of mine has this same model evo and color.
Been wanting evo since they came out.
Bro you should build a S550 mustang. Something different.
Is it the TOB? I had a similar sound from tiny play in the bearing. I went to a Tilton hydraulic TOB and never heard the sound again.
Dont quote me on this, but could that clutch noise be louder because you didnt put the firewall padding back on?
Since youre taking and using logos without permission im selling vasyn apparel that i make myself on the side for extra money. Hope you dont mind.
Isn’t the balance shaft deleted in this engine? Wouldn’t that get rid of your vibration from the clutch and isn’t that what it’s used for.
please make evo skate deck👌🏼👌🏼
Hello will you be abel to put filter in with out taking it all apart again
Very nice,good progress 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Definitely unclutch, go with a sport will hold all the power
Love the hard work
Damn bro I just sold my Hawkeye you saw at bnw
Evo 8 does the same thing with exedy twin.
Cool drop! It's commendable how meticulous and thorough you are.
You should put l19 stud on this car
It’s louder cus you took off the firewall/bulkhead factory thick sound deadener…….. it’s gon resonate inside louder my guy
sounds like the clutch buzz issues that some s2000s suffer from. Only way to fix it is to replace the clutch
I got sweatshirt and a tee and a banner 😎💪🏽
👍👍👍👍
my old evo had the exact same noise
U need more mitsubishi evo stuff so I can buy
Damn skate deck is sold out already rip but also good for you brotha
They restocked as preorders
Evo 8 with act single. Makes the same noise as yours
Got an 03 Evo 8 with built motor and twin disc clutch. It’s always made that exact noise on decel and it has always driven me absolutely nuts. Sounds horrible and anyone who rides with me is like wtf. From everything I read it’s totally normal for the car

multi plate clutches are just going to ratlle. its normal.
what if the zink plating messed with the trigger somehow
Is the deck flat?
I bet that rattle is because ACT uses a lighter flywheel that cannot dampen the motor harmonics enough.
Uniclutch, brother. Uniclutch.
change the flywheel, the rattling will go
gym vlog when
i missed what the power goal is?
It would be amazing if the brakes were painted a vibrant purple, on the yellow it would go wild!
