I think the issue is not the Raiden toolkit, it is "ok", but the thing is he has really few weakness and most importantly his damage is absurd. It is the character I love the most and the one I always start playing on each MK but TBH it felt super fun until I realized almost every special is useless in his combo structure because there is almost no scaling on the move used over and over in his combos. The damage he can achieve barely wasting resources is the main issue people has with it and I think they should nerf the move that seems to have no scaling so the others can feel useful as well in his structure. I stopped playing him until he gets some damage nerf. Even if you play super well, he touches you and easily can do 50% damage or 40% in the worst case scenario.
Yeah, once I reached Warrior and Champion level, I had to stop recklessly throwing out the F34 cartwheel lol but I’ve learned how to use it sparingly out of surprise or after a well timed teleport and I can use it mid combo after an EX shocker to maximize damage

How to counter his Air Electric fly? Been playing shao and I came across a raiden just zoning and dashing back into full screen when I close the gap! Very annoying
Off screen Kano knives cover Raiden after he does his flying superman/teleport, can't even punish him like you use to. I'm playing Shao too, and Raiden's are a struggle lol.
I don’t care about damage, I don’t mind about perfect blocking stuff, but when he uses his magnetic pull stuff into cyrax blockstring, he just takes 10-15% almost unavoidable damage(only if you didn’t perfect blocked something before he start doing that or being lucky to pb 1st hit of that move), and then being completely safe with 1.5 bars of meter built - I’m going mad, at least don’t give him such meter building when i perfect block! Or give me opportunity to take my turn, he just rince&repeat that 6-8 times a round and I am dead no matter what I do
It's so funny to me how this game feels like Tekken in terms of being very footsie heavy and general matchup knowledge. Granted, previous games had that too, but it's in this game's core, IMHO

An undefeated Raiden was one of the first characters I beat during my first set of Kompetitive matches. That's all many people bother with, and it looks desperate as they try to beat someone (like me) who doesn't do unstoppable combos or enhanced attacks, and just plays casually. It's literally the same combo, and I'll wager to bet they aren't actually having any fun as they 'win'. Second, you don't think Raiden is overpowered compared to other characters? Let's use my main (Li Mei) as an example: Raiden can charge up his projectiles; Li Mei can't. Raiden can teleport; Li Mei can't. Raiden can jump in the air and charge all the way across the screen; Li Mei can't. I can go on, but these examples are how anyone can easily understand what it means for someone to be 'overpowered'. as a mileena main, staying full screen is a pretty easy way to counter her. she has basically no safe ways of getting to you and she can't zone for shit without spending meter
I think the incredibly tight punish windows are what makes his damage annoying. For example if I try to interrupt his f3,4 and am off even slightly I just blow up lol. He's still fun to play against, he's just... overtuned. I feel like i downplayed it a bit but I'll leave it at that
Yup, the issue is his damage and that is the most damaging starter he has, which even UpBlocking you can't punish, and if you are late you already are eating a 40% minimum damage. Either make the gap bigger or make it punishable on UpBlock / FlawlessBlock. Anyway, even without that, the damage nerf on his special is a must, it feels boring knowing if you use any other special your damage drops drastically.

Any chance for Johnny Cage counter guide? The 3 characters struggle to beat online is Raiden, Johnny, kenshi. I don’t struggle with kenshi too much tho and I see a hell of a lot more johnnys.

You don't need to counter him, his neutral game is terrible and he has to rely to f4. Back walk him into it and punish. He also has gaps in every string.
Jax assist makes raidens 2,4,2,1 safe at -9(i think) with a lot of push block, so make sure to not mash d1 too early of he looks like he's going to finish that string.
@@shujinkydink I wouldn't say he is mid tier.but i do feel he is blown out of proportion. No good mid and how slow foward 3 4 is really hurts him..he is very good though. I've been using raiden/Jax but after watching Dittle I think Raiden/Cyrax is the move. Do any string into the helicopter on block actually makes it plus. I gotta test it and lab it but ok ya that shit might be Baraka/cyrax level broke lol

His b2 overhead can be combo'ed with kameo (Cyrax, Scorpion, Jax for instance) in the corner and there is pretty much no scaling

I think the issue is not the Raiden toolkit, it is "ok", but the thing is he has really few weakness and most importantly his damage is absurd. You can also armor before the last hit gets you. Also li mei can punish with the dragon kick but it’s very character specific.

The enchanced version of the db3 move lets you pop up for a combo, it's not really for doing on block.

If you wanna beat trash mileenas just mash down pokes constantly against good mileenas there’s not a lot you can do but get good

Also, the mid follow-up for the db3 is just a launcher that you have to confirm. With jax assist, you get a bunch of damage per usual.
