I mean I guess this Duck video was good but everyone knows Duck Dynasty is where it's at: ua-cam.com/play/PLXmhjzME06PH0IRmMpkykEg81DhG3BwGi.html
Oh! And I said "Next week" at the end! It's probably gonna be more like 2 weeks, sorry about that. When I first voiced over this video, I thought this wouldn't upload till January was over and my backlog was ready. But I ended up being ahead of schedule so I released this early and just forgot to fix that line. Sorry about that!
It’s all good.
@@crownedshyness9656 glad to have you back. We’re here for you bossman
No problem man, hopefully, you get those wack vertebrae in check soon, love the content. Keep it up. Best of luck to you and your family
Glad you’re doing better mdb,I’m 32 and recently had a health scare myself and it really put things in perspective,I’ve been playing Pokémon since it came out here in the states and love watching your vids they’re super entertaining and enjoyable, would love to see a ledyba in gen2 if your up for the challenge, either way I wish you well and look forward to the next challenge
@@johnnycarroll6346 stay strong brotha
To answer your question about the Silph Rival using a Potion, it's because every Rival fight from Pokémon Tower to the pre-League fight uses the same AI code, which includes the code for item use. Having the Rival use different items in different fights would have required each Rival to be a separate Trainer class, so my guess is that it was a space-saving measure.
My bets on they forgot.
@@Earthboundmike nah, definitely a space saving measure. These games were extremely tight on memory for a Game Boy game, which is why certain glitches can break the game so easily by overwriting critical memory addresses.
In that case they should’ve given him a Hyper Potion or something. Sure, it’s be weird seeing him use it at the beginning of the game, but no weirder than him using a regular Potion in the end game.
@@AmberMuffin that is one of the most asinine things i've read all day, and i saw an elon musk tweet earlier. do you not see the problems with the rival using a hyper potion at the beginning? not only does it not make any sense story-wise (i mean, where the fuck did he get it when there aren't any shops that sell hyper potions within a 10-kilometer radius of pallet town?), but it would be unbelievably aggravating having to deal with your opponent having the ability to just heal back to full whenever they want, especially in the beginning when your pokemon are weaker and don't have as many options to break through opposing teams.
@@ryangallagher9723 At the beginning, if he uses a regular potion, the Mon that’s out is basically back to full.
And besides, it’s Pokémon. You’re probably one shotting his team anyway.
Random question for your next grinding session:
With so many years on UA-cam and so many series under your belt, has there ever been a series you regret making? Maybe you made it despite not having fun during it, or your comments hated it despite you loving it?
Dog armor
@@SoggyCoffeeAddict I understand that reference!
No better way to start a day than a Pokémon Challenge and two sandwiches.
I raise you… two videos and a sub sandwich
What sandwiches did you eat today? What did they have in/on them?
And most importantly: *were they tasty?* 😋
I see someone has been playing Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (joking)
one sandwich is just never enough
A Pokemon challenge and two crumpets
Great video as always! 23:19 you said Alakazam instead of Arcanine but it's ok it's like a little Easter egg lol
I was just about to comment that!! I’m sure that was on purpose to see who was paying attention to the video 😂 (I know it was not but it would have been cool)
Super happy to see you kinda back, MDB! Also, Psyduck is a translation issue, the Japanese name is Koduck, or Child Duck in a mix of Japanese and English. It's not a Psychic Duck, it's a Duckling.
And I guess they just ended up stuck with it lol. I do wonder, if they'd chosen to change pokemon retroactively (like Psyduck or combining Nidoran male/female into one pokemon) how different remakes of gen 1 would be
In the anime it's a psychic duck though, just not very good at it
That makes sense but why it can learn a psychic move, and the Pokedex description references his ability to use physic powers too.
No, it's a Psychic Duck. Psyduck's name is literal and Golduck's name is based on Duck and Gold (the color representing psychic abilities in Japan). Given the fact that they learn Psychic moves and their Pokédex mentions their magical mind abilities, we can come to the conclusion that you are incorrect.
But Golduck is hinted at that it's also got psychic abilities, so if they did just stick with it. They would have realized the mistake almost instantly, and still not change it 🤷🏻♂️
Glad you're back, better, and doing more cool challenges
For a potential challenge idea, maybe... Pokemon Black with only one Larvesta? You used it a lot around the endgame of Black with First Form Bugs, and it's such a cool Pokemon
(Btw, Arcanine is now officially Alakazam as of that last fight.)
Arcazam
Or Alakanine
It's so good to see that your health is improving enough for you to be able to do videos again, and one that just happens to be feature one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. I like psyduck better than golduck, it's just a much better design imo and its doofiness is endearing. When I was playing Arceus Legends I kept my psyduck Molly unevolved for like 15 levels and only finally let her evolve because she was lagging behind immensely and had like no stamina, so she was fainting all the time.
The fact that Psyduck is not psychic type is not weird at all! It IS a duck with *some* psychic powers, but he isn't capable of controlling them (thus, no psychic type). That's why he gets those headaches and in the anime does those random psychic attacks when it's stressed. I'm pretty sure the pokedex also mentions all of this
Question for you: Of all the non pokemon series you have done challenges in, which one did you have the most fun recording?
I know pokemon challenges are your main challenges but it's always nice seeing some variety. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pokemon challenges as well.
Either Oblivion with only Illusion Magic or Fallout 4 with only Pipe Weapons!
Hey MDB! Always happy to see a new Pokémon Challenge from you, and I'm glad you're getting your health issues sorted out! And now for my suggestion:
Pokémon Gold with only one Gligar! ❤️
Psyduck name in Japanese is Koduck or the chracter for child and then duck. Golduck's name is Golduck the gold is likely in reference to the Gold badge aka the Marsh badge that sabrina gives you. Fun fact Psyduck doesn't learn Psychic by TM until Generation 4; In Generation 2 and 3 and it is an egg move.
Gold is also apprently a symbol of psychic powers: in addition to the aforementioned Gold Badge, the Gold Gummi in Mystery Dungeon is loved by Psychic types.
As for the source of the "gold = psychic powers" connection: _"Psychics who claim to be able to observe the aura with their third eye report that great spiritual teachers usually have golden auras."_ - Wikipedia on Gold (color)
Oh, and the fact that Golduck couldn't be taught Psychic via TM before Gen 4 is stupid :v
This channel has made it so much easier to get back into Pokémon. Your humor and personality always makes these challenges fun, even for an old Gen 1 kid who's been out of the loop for decades.
Golduck is one of my all time favorites so psyduck has a special place in my heart. Love the run!
I really appreciate that you talk about the plot of a new game when you do a challenge for it. Also, good luck with your health stuff.
Couple of things.
1. Love to hear the health progress.
2. Surprised Psyduck couldn't learn psychic. Just when you think you know a game.
3. I can think of a few questions: Whats your favorite running joke? What was the worst challenge thus far? Is there any challenges you refuse to do other than impossible ones like R/B/Y Weedle? Would you say the challenges as a whole have become easier over time with having done so many?
I used my first Psyduck/Golduck in Violet. Harry ended up being an MVP with his Hydro Pump alongside my Fuecoco. Always was a niche favorite, and Golduck deserves a new Psychic evolution like Primape got this gen.
I also remember them having Psychic powered attacks in TCG Base Set, which is and was rare in the TCG.
IIRC Golduck can be found in every region, so he's a pretty reliable team member. No matter where you go, you can always count on Psyduck!
You're a damn warrior man, true not only to your work but also to your family and yourself, keep fighting man, damn awesome to see you upload, but even more awesome that you haven't given up, sending love and prayers your way, hope you and yours are alright
Actually, in Japan, Psyduck is called Koduck. Ko means child so we can't go by name.... We can certainly put blame on the Pokedex though! Yellow's entry specifically mentions psychic power!
Ooh, going back to the Dragon Ball romhack huh? Cool, I will look forward to that!
Yup, and following this, Golduck is also Golduck in Japanese.
Also you see it having headaches and doing psychic shit in the anime
OR... we as fans can just accept the fact that Pokemon are able to have powers without being that type. I think that's the more reasonable option.
@@ceulgai2817 I think you are right! That's true for almost every Pokemon.
i think I know why Blaine always uses a Super Potion on full health. Gen 1 AI selects its move after you, like its reacting. Since you attack and don't one shot, the AI chooses to heal even though heals always go before actual moves.
The item use replaces the move that would have been used including its priority. Hence the retrospective super potion we all know of.
There are times when Lt Surge has used an X speed before you despite your pokemon outspeeding his - in those cases it replaces quick attack but kept the priority
In addition to what Kanbei mentioned, Blaine in particular has an oversight in his AI code. Basically, every Trainer class that can use healing items will only have the chance to use their item if the Pokémon is at or below a certain percentage of its max health at the time the Pokémon would perform its move for the turn. Trainer classes with items that aren't healing items don't have this threshold. Blaine's item use code doesn't have the health threshold, which means the RNG will be rolled every turn (unless Blaine has already used 2 Super Potions on his current Pokémon).
The hypothesis that I (among others) subscribe to is that Blaine was originally intended to have his assigned item be an X Item, and so had his AI code written using that template. Later on, someone easily could have decided to change Blaine's item to Super Potions, and simply neglected to add in a health threshold.
In Gen 1 specifically, the AI doesn't pick its move at the start of the round like the player does. Instead, the AI for gym leaders, including Blaine, does this:
>Is the AI using an item immediately? (Y/N) If No, go to 2
>Is the AI's Pokémon faster than the player's Pokémon? (Y/N) If No, wait for the player to resolve their turn, then go to 3. If Yes, go to 3 immediately.
>Does the AI's current Pokémon have a move of a super effective type against the player's current Pokémon? (Y/N) If No, go to 4
>Is the AI at a point where it would use an item? (Y/N) If Yes, use an item.
Hope things can go back to normal soon for you, MDB!
Blaine is such a nice guy, always helping out with these challenges
As always another great video and I'm still overjoyed that you're doing better health wise, been watching for about two years now and appreciate all the work you put in my friend
Finally getting to sit down and watch all the Pokemon challenges/playthroughs I've missed out on during a struggling couple of years away from home :)
So good to see you back. Try not to stress too much about your backlog, we completely understand. Your health is much more important than these silly little pixel people.
Very much enjoying seeing them back again though ❤️
🥳🥳 more challenges but more importantly, hope you're doing good! ❤️💪🏻
What Pokemon do you want to use in a challenge but you are absolutely terrified of running with?
I’ve really missed your Pokémon play throughs!! I’m glad you’re feeling better! If you’re up for it can you do some more Mario party videos? I hope the new year is good to you and I look forward to seeing more of your videos!!!
I love listening to MDB's voice; it's so calming and relaxing. I watch the video once so I can see how the challenge goes; then on rewatches I play Pokémon along with the video!
Also which fossil did you take you never mentioned
Omg what if regional varients only run of a late gen you've not played
Great idea to answer questions in the videos! Been watching you for like ages now. And personally I think the part of your videos is when you get side tracked or just start riffing about something else. You’re a super fun dude!!! (Who said UA-cam comments can’t be nice = ) )
Of course comments can be nice!
Sounds like things are picking up for you. Cool video. Love Psyduck’s Red sprite
'Alakazam was a one shot with surf'
*squints at arcanine*
Its great to have you back! Never change!
Hey, going back to the romhack means you'll get to see all the changes that were done to it, such as the big guys being a lot weaker now, moves having a LOT less power now, and some of the boss teams being changed up, iirc to be more 'thematically appropriate' or something.
For sure, this means that your Saibamen actually stands a ghost of a chance next week, instead of basically no chance like in the old versions.
Yes I'm from the past because I was there on Twitter, you should too
Yep came here from the past also
Technically all of us come from the past. For example, I time traveled from the year 2003 to get here, it just took me 19 and a half years.
Hey MBD. Glad to see you are back to making videos again. Hope your health keeps improving. Here's a question for the future grind sesh Q&A (and a comment for the algorithm) Which is your favorite weird gen 1 sprite? There are some good ones. I really like Ivysaur unnaturally rearing back on two legs. It's just so funny to me for some reason.
Hope things get better soon
I never actually completed a Gen 1 run
So i played with one of my favorites, Farfetchd
Slash is good for a long time, learns Fly
Learns swords dance which is a bit useless with Slash so i was really glad he also learned Body Slam
So happy to see you back! Take it easy, you got this. ❤️
My question for you: which challenge has *actually* been the hardest? From the first Magikarp run to this latest one?
The Wobbufett challenge was impossible without items, so take that as you will.
Hi, great to see you are back. About the questions you Asked for: You have to do Rocktunnel without Flash and you need to get Surf as quick as possible: do you use a map for those areas or do you have the ideal route memorized?
Hey MDB I've been watching you a long time, firstly I'd like to welcome you back.
I'm relieved you're finally getting somewhere with your diagnostics and treatment.
Prior to your time off I'd watch your videos more in the background whilst doing other tasks.
I found with this video I was watching it much more attentively.
I really like the subtle changes to the commentary and the slight deviations to your previous scripts.
It was very refreshing and I'm excited to see where you go with your content from here.
All the best as always, I hope the worst of your health complications are behind you for now, much love
I'm glad to hear you're doing better! As for a question? Would you ever consider doing another Wobobafett run? Maybe in a later game like Sword&Shield? Considering you can change its stat spread pretty easily.
Would it even be possible without items?
@robert lupa Actually, a friend of mine did it. Granted, he's utterly INSANE and does that kind of stuff for just the fun of it. I watched him literally for hours, retry a Pokemon Stadium ditto run. Going again and again until the rng lined up. So, I believe it is possible, but it may require a bit of luck.
@@PatchyConvert "Pokemon Stadium Ditto run"
:O
Hey MDB, always happy to see a pokemon challenge! Quick question for your next video, which fossil do you take in Mt. Moon?
18:50 ah, yes, the flying/rock type Golbat :)
Glad you are kind of back, hopefully you continue to feel better. Happy to see pokemon challenges again 😀
Finally!!!
Thank you. I've been asking for this for years.
Hey mdb. Just found your channel again after mine got hacked. Glad to see you're well enough to continue making videos again! Don't over do it now, much love
I think you might have forgotten to put the link for Khimyra in the description. I might just be dumb and unable to see it, but I figured I should say something. Love your videos and I always look forward to watching them!
I’m glad you’re back and feeling somewhat better! ❤
Have you ever considered doing a challenge with a Zangoose/Seviper pairing?
at 12:57 my question is, is there any challenge you started but then couldn't finish because it was impossible whether it be Pokémon or otherwise? glad to see youre doing better homie!
I think you could probably win with the moves you have, probably not even gonna need level 100 or double team lol
also i've been watching a bunch of old videos recently, it's legitimately so funny but cool that your jokes and video structure barely changes over all that time!
Lol Alakazam instead of Arcanine. Again, glad to hear you're doing better and back to doing what you love!
At 2:56 I predict that when he finally gets Confusion he will sweep at least 85% of the enemies/opponents.
25:20 I wasn’t aware that the rival in Gen 1 had an two Alakazams. One looks kinda like an Arcanine.
Glad to hear you’re doing better! You said it right the first time it sounds like Hayworth. They make great stuff my company uses them. You could also check out Herman Miller Aeron seating. They’re really good chairs
I really hope all the medical stuff goes better! Really glad to see you back in action. Don’t worry about uploading content! We’ll be here when you’re back to 💯
I've been waiting with baited breath for your next video, but being happy you're doing better and made a new vid, also my kids are happy you're doing a Psyduck run they love that mon
BOI YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE INTEGRITY OF A VIRIDIAN FOREST GRIND
Q&A and life/health update at the end of the video are a great idea. Love the community interaction
Grind session question: Can you give us another one of your family recipes / things you regularly cook?
It's great to see you uploading! But I'm dying to know which fossil you take; I'm betting on the Jaw Fossil.
The Khimyra hoodies look exceptionally comfy! I'll have to take a look!
I think I’ve been watching too much Jrose lately; I was shook when you pronounced Lorelei correctly 😂
Really glad your well enough to do more challenge videos again, I missed these.
I'm one of those people that knew pretty much nothing about Fallout but really enjoyed your challenge. So much so that I bought the game during the Steam sale. I hope you're happy 😆.
I know this'll get buried, but tonight I went to a local pro wrestling show for the first time, in no small part because of the way MDB talks about it 😁 and I had a great time, never thought it'd be something I'd be into but it was so fun
Aewsome! (See the spelling lol)
Who and what promotion did you see?
I'm using your ad read time to write this comment, as comments are good with the algorithm. I'm so glad you're on the mend and it doesn't matter how long you need a break for, your content is worth the wait.
Edit for my burning question:
Would you ever consider teaming up with Not A Gamer Gaming / Genosis for a 7dtd series?
You have similar personalities and senses of humour, as well as living in North America.
Questions for future grind sessions:
Where did you get the name MDB? What’s your favorite Pokémon? What fossil did you take? And how are you feeling?
Challenge ideas:
Can you beat Morrowind? No seriously I’ve never heard of anyone to do this
Can you beat New Vegas with only reverse pickpocketed grenades?
Can you beat a Pokémon game with only Shinx?
Unlisted crew represent! Can't wait to get the notification a few days from now for this video I've already seen.
Same here 🙋🏻♂️ Helix Fossil ftw
@@adventureoflinkmk2 Where's da Old Amber gang at?
I am just so happy to have you back man. Hang in there!
Damn, I was not expecting a Tyson Dux reference. Great wrestler, though my favorite Tyson Dux moment is getting to see how amazing Zack Sabre Jr is
Happy to see a Psyduck run it's always been one of my favorite water pokemon lines in gen 1.
Also head canon idea all pokemon wear a version of the dog armor it doesn't raise defense just let's the pokemon carry an item.
23:19 Ah yes my favourite fire doggo Alakazam
When I first saw Psyduck's sprite I thought 'donut'
I hope this helps, but the TM for Mimic is incredibly useful in Gen 1 runs since it lets you mimic any of the opponents moves unlike in other Gens. This can help speed up certain fights significantly so you won't have to grind nearly as much (for example, mimicking Amnesia from Lorelei's Slowbro to boost your special and sweep).
This needs more recognition, so that MahDryBread will notice it.
Did you know that there exists a way for Psyduck to learn Amnesia? You have to register all 151 Pokemon in the Pokemon Stadium Hall of Fame, which doesn't sound very fun to me, but if that is accomplished, you can get a Psyduck with Amnesia, which it wouldn't ordinarily be able to learn until Gen 4!
Anyway, fun run this time! That Viridian Forest grind must have taken you AGES... Psyduck has a Medium Fast growth rate, so ironically enough, that means it was slower going at the beginning of the game than a Medium Slow growth rate Pokemon would have been.
I'm glad you're seeing an upward trend with your health situation! Keep taking care of yourself, we want you around for as long as possible making good content! Keep on keeping on bud, and we'll see you in the next one!
*Question:* I remember you mentioned being in talks with Guiness World Records for something like "Longest Upload Consistency on UA-cam" (daily without breaks for 10 years), and I'm wondering if it would help your income situation at all. Do you know if there would be any monetary gain for officially having a world record, or would it just be for bragging rights/mainstream exposure?
I was in talk with my network, not Guiness. Unfortunately Guiness doesn't pay you anything. In fact they charge you.
Glad to hear you're doing better, hopefully that stays the trend
23:19 That’s a weird looking Alakazam ❤
gotta admit i named my dog Helix because of your videos 3 years ago and my girlfriend has absolutely no idea🤣
What makes Psyduck worse, is the fact that in the anime, it showed Psyduck using psychic attacks!
Question for the Q&A experiment thing.
You mentioned in your Pokémon Stadium playthrough that your uncle worked at the animation studio Nelvana. Which shows did he work on and do you think he's based?
What is the challenge you have looked forward to the most?
Your content is honestly great. Love turning it on and just making my own prediction before I watch.
Hey MDB! I have a burning question: Are you interested in doing some Pokémon challenges in some more modern games? I thoroughly enjoy the older games, but I wonder what kind of things you could do with access to the newer Pokémon! Love your videos, keep up the good work! And I wish you good health!
You slowly enunciating "Psy-chic duck" makes me think of how Psyduck was suggested back when the game was developed.
"Okay Masuda, we need a water type, single evolution Pokemon. Any ideas?"
"Okay, here me out. Psy-chic, duck."
Random Question for grinding
How would you rank the gens in terms of ease/interesting fights among those that you select for runs (gen1-5ish?)
Hey man, glad to see you're feeling better. I recently watched your Fallout 1 playthrough and found it really interesting, you obviously have an insane understanding of the game. Are you ever going to do a full play through of Fallout 2 on your channel?
Yup!
@@MahDryBread Awesome! I can't wait
Pokemon Emerald with a Team of only 1 Relicanth!! I've done the challenge and it's just that, quite a challenge because Juan and Wallace are a decent bit harder than Wallace and Steven in my opinion, plus you can always do the optional Steven fight! Early game is VERY interesting
I'm sick and probably won't process most of this but you know what this is a great series and I wanna watch it.
I would love you try to do an Eeveelution challenge at some point. Not the strongest of pokemon, but type coverage at least.
It is nice to watch a challenge on Sunday=)Thank you for the video=)
Question for your next grind session: What's your opinion on the new pokemon games and the new pokemon designs like dudunsparce?
I'd love to hear his thoughts on The Stupidest Official Evolution Ever too.
Canadian wind, only worse then Canadian snow, wetter then wet not in a good way. Hope alls ok mdb, watching you makes my Sunday when you upload pokemon.
I still think you should do a poison/poisoning moves (twineedle) run in crystal. I just liked your poison only run in emerald. I also like the idea of getting around steel Pokemon with twineedle due to a gen 2 mechanics.
In the exact moment MDB said "nugget bridge" my head went to Dankpods. PUT SOME SCARLET FIRE ON THAT NUGGET
Glad to see you doing well,! Ik I'm a viewer so my view is biased bc you being healthy means more content for me, but at least it's genuine. Anyway, here's 2 questions for ya
1. What's a game you are excited about covering on the channel? I've been watching more of you LPs and I've been loving them, I'd like to know what's in you "up next" list.
2. I saw you do a video about companions in FO4 and you said dogmeat doesn't get armor. There's an armor you can find called Dog Armor, which has armor in the name and thus clearly is an armor you can find in the game for Dogmeat.
I'm so glad you seem to be doing better, MDB!!😄 DO you think you'd ever do a Gen1 run with Mewtwo to see how low a level you can beat the game?
i know im a year late but i just saw this video so i can explain why blaine used a super potion at full health ! so npcs in pokemon rgby actually decide their move AFTER you. so they ALWAYS have an advantage and will react accordingly to your switches and what not. Blaine knew that your attack would do big damage to his pokemon so he was gonna heal it, however
items go first
so he wasted it
Nice Video Man, hope your Health state goes Up again.
So my Question is: Have you ever seen a Shiny during your Challanges and have you catched it?
Or if you know it: How many Shinies have you encountered during your Challanges?
Here’s a question I’ve asked before the premiere began:
How many first form Pokémon are left before you run out of gen 1 solo runs to make?
If we discount starters and legendaries (but *not* single stage Pokemon like Scyther, as he's done challenge runs with Pokemon like Absol or Chansey), and don't count Fire Red runs, we are left with:
- Nidoran F
- Nidoran M
- Clefairy
- Vulpix
- Paras
- Venonat
- Mankey
- Poliwag
- Abra
- Bellsprout
- Tentacool
- Geodude
- Ponyta
- Magnemite
- Farfetch'd
- Doduo
- Seel
- Grimer
- Shellder
- Krabby
- Exeggcute
- Hitmonlee
- Hitmonchan
- Lickitung
- Rhyhorn
- Chansey
- Horsea
- Staryu
- Mr. Mime
- Scyther
- Pinsir
- Jynx
- Electabuzz
- Magmar
- Tauros
- Magikarp (impossible)/Water Onix
- Lapras
- Ditto
- Porygon
- Helix
- Dome
- Aerodactyl
- Snorlax
That leaves us with 44 Pokemon, if we count Magikarp/Gyarados as one.
Saibaman is one thing, but can you beat FireRed with only one Preposterous Bear Thief?
Love your challenges. Stay healthy mate.
So good to have you back, my dude!
Comment for the UA-cam algorithm: maybe a no HM slave run. Something like gen 1 with only Lapras and Farfetched.
The first two gens may be a bit too easy since there's so few HM's. I'm drawing a blank on a two pokemon team that get all the HM's in 3 though. Maybe Spheal and Wingull but I don't remember if either can learn Cut.
Basically trying to get the number of Pokémon in the party as low as possible and still finish the game.
