Have you made deodorant before? What essential oils are your favorite?
Nice video ma, plz can I use Emulsifying wax instead of candelilla wax?
I didn’t make yet but definitely getting the ingredients to make it. My favorite EO is Lavender.
Thank you for share this information.
I'm not sure, I haven't tried that!
You're welcome! Enjoy 😃
Hey Marisa! I saw that you use rendered tallow in many of your recipes. Have you ever tried using it in deodorant? What do you think of that? Those ingredients aren't available where I live so I wanna try the classic recipe: coconut oil + soda + starch. But it's hot here and coconut oil is liquid at room temperature, so I'm thinking of adding some tallow (that I rendered using your technique -- it's so nice and white!)
Watching u every day atleast for two minutes, can eliminate all toxins , out of my body, i hv started the therepy. Thanks for support
I hope you stay this sweet, kind, helpful and beautiful! Thank you! I am so glad to have found your channel recently. REALLY GOOD WORK SWEET SUPER NATURAL SISTER! 💕 Having your daughter there with you and hearing and learning too, is PERFECTION!
I'm so glad I found you! I've watched several of your videos and you've remedied some of the problems I've ran into with deodorant and magnesium lotion! Thanks for sharing your stuff! :)
I made it and started using it yesterday, today and I will use it for a week. And I will give more feedback. So far, so good!!! 🎉 Thank you!😊
I just made this, and it absolutely works as well as the Zion health Claydry deodorant that was recently my “gold standard” all day natural deodorant. Except this one does glide on more nicely. Big thanks! I love it. And so empowering to be able to make at home, and reuse containers. Better on planet and wallet! Love your videos. 👍🙏😄
You inspire me to start my oil business, I only use oils on my skin, it looks amazing, my help with ezema, fungus and other blemishes
I really enjoy your natural recipes and products. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
I like to use exfoliation, coconut oil and tea tree and mint essential oils. Doesn't really work as a antiperspirant, but I've never had an underarm sweat problem. My face on the other hand, lol... I also use the same recipe with a lower concentration of essential oils and addition of either almond oil or pumpkin seed oil for vitamin e. Great for acne. And diluting a tiny bit of the the face mixture with water in your hands and massaging it into your scalp helps with dandruff.
Made it!
Made a blend of vanilla, rose and clove essential oil. It smells divine and will keep me smelling sweet all day! Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome! :)
Sounds great! How many drops of each essential oil did you use?
going to try this mix of vanilla, rose, and clove, or maybe peppermint. Thanks for sharing Julia.
This is a great video
Thank you!!!
Congratulations from Mexico
Thank you!
Thanks from Jordan 🇯🇴😍 I was at my doctor a couple of days ago, and when she checked my armpits she asked me about what I use as a deodorant, and she told me YOU SHOULD SWITCH TO ORGANIC NATURAL DEODORANT especially after 40..here we are. Thanks again.
What a great doctor to recommend that!
Hi there, thank you so very much for your deodorant recipe it works wonderfully. I absolutely love it. Please keep the excellent content coming.
Thank you so much!
Thank you…I’m slowly getting into the healthy lifestyle. I truly, truly appreciate the amount of qualitative information you impart at the beginning of each segment.
I love the the descriptive recipes you put out for us. I’ve started using beef lard…hard to come by in Canada.
Watching your videos started me on my journey, I’m converting my immediate family …slowly, my brother and my mom. I’m slowly converting my in-laws by experimenting on their skin..ie. creams. Thank you for your guidance, it has helped me immensely on my journey to health. May God keep you and bless you and your family.
Thank you so much for sharing! I hope things go super well for you and your family :)
So exited to try these! My boys play soccer n will be going back to school soon. So I would love to test this with them.
Great!
Thank you! I cant wait to try this (:
You’re very welcome! 😊💕
I'm wondering if I can just add extra arrowroot powder instead of putting in baking soda? I have been using a cream deodorant for the past 5-6 months that is baking soda free, and it's been very effective. I'm almost out of my cream and thought I'd give the stick kind a try now. I love the sound of this recipe, except for the baking soda. I make the magnesium cream from one of your other videos, and I can say that it works great for when I have restless legs times. It's amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much I’m encouraged by you to make my own
I'm so glad to hear it!
Made this deodorant, it was awesome used grapefruit essential oil. Thank you
THANK YOU MARISSA
Thank you so much for your great recipes. I've been making your tallow face cream for a few years now and I'm loving it. I want to make deodorant sticks too. I can't find arrowroot where i live. Is it ok to substitute it with corn starch? Or arrowroot does have special properties ? I could buy it online. Thanks 😊
Thanks!
I have never had any problem with beeswax, but will try candelilla.
I’ve tried the three ingredient (coconut oil, arrowroot, baking soda) recipe and my husband broke out in a rash. I tried this recipe and he loves it! Definitely has to do with the amount of all the other ingredients vs the low amount of baking soda.
I use about 1/4 tsp coconut oil with a small pinch of baking soda blended in the palm of my hand. Rub on fingertips and rub under arms. It works great!
Thanks for sharing!
thank you for this! will be making some for sure - what are your thoughts about adding magnesium?
Magnesium is great in deodorant!
Great job 👏 you do your homework
Thank you :)
Do you have any suggestions for an alternative to Baking Soda? Possibly Activated Charcoal?
Great video! If I wanted to add magnesium chloride (or mgcl solution) could I? Could you replace one of the current ingredients with it or just add to it? Also where do you get the plastic deodorant stick containers from? Any help would be much appreciated 🙏🙏
Hi Marisa your deodorant is divine and works great for me. But my daughter did develops a rash under her armpits due to the deodorant. I read that baking soda can cause skin irritation. What would you recommend to use instead of backing soda?
For cream deodorant I usually just use a dry wash cloth to apply it.
Hi,great video. Thanks for the tip on the kind of wax,i use beeswax but i'll order the other wax to test i because the deodorant stains my clothes even if i just dap it on my armpits. Do you have that problem? because i want to stop making it. And another big question, will this deodorant melt in hot climates? because i live in the caribbean so coconut oil is always liquid here.it's always summer here.
Thanks so much! I haven't had that problem with this recipe. Sometimes the arrowroot will leave white marks on clothes (like if I put on a dark colored shirt after putting on deodorant) but I avoid this by putting on the shirt first, and then the deodorant. I think that candelilla wax stays firmer at the same temperature than beeswax, so that helps with the consistency and avoids the oiliness. I live in Colorado and it gets pretty hot here in the summer (liquid coconut oil all summer!) And this deodorant recipe stays nice and solid even in hot temps. So, I would guess it would still work well where you are. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Can we substitute the coconut oil for tallow or do you think it will be too stiff?
Great
Hi there, I love your videos! I was curious if this deodorant leaves white marks or stains on clothing?
It can if you use too much, but I haven't found it to be a problem :)
Nice video ma, can I use Emulsifying wax instead of candelilla wax ?
Glad you like it! I’ve never tried emulsifying wax, so I’m not sure.
Thank you so much for the recipe and explanation. In Europe we don't use "cups" for measurement but kilograms and grams. Could you let me know approx. what 1/2 cup virgin coconut oil and 1 cup arrowroot powder would be in grams? Thanks in advance.
You can convert the measurements using an online calculator :) www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=online+measuring+converter&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Does the hot liquid in the plastic containers leach out toxins?
I really loved this but it stains my armpits, is that the coconut oil? Any way to prevent this?
Hi. Very Nice Deodorant. It can be add Vitamin E and Licorice Extract for Dark Armpit?
Yes, you can try that! Let me know how it works 😃
Nice
Hi, very interesting video, thanks 👍. Can you / do you reuse the plastic containers? I hate single use plastics but if I can mitigate this by reusing it I feel it can offset some of the damage?
Thanks! Yes, I reuse them over and over. I've considered trying a cardboard/paper container, but from what I've read they don't hold up well, so you can't reuse them over and over.
Plastics can also affect our bodies in negative ways with their toxicity so you may want to use glass jars. Just a friendly FYI.
Just found this recipe recently but I have bought Cacao Butter in error. Can I use this butter instead of Cocoa Butter?
The containers linked to the recipe need to be filled from the bottom.
I’d love to know which containers are being used in the video.
could you please show how you make the cream deodorant. Many thanks
Yes! It's really easy. Just follow this same recipe, and leave out the candelilla wax :)
I’m going to try this, thanks. Does it leave white marks on clothing?
It can on dark clothing if you use too much, but if you use the right amount it's fine :)
Thanks for the video 😊 What company do you recommend for the empty containers for price and quality?
You’re welcome! I get them from amazon. There is a link to them in my blog post 😊
Thank you. I will let you know how I go 😎
Brambleberry also has them at a really good price.
Ok thanks. Can I substitute the coconut oil for almond oil? What benefit does the olive oil have in deodorant? Can i put less baking soda, because I’m sensitive to it?
I'm not sure if almond oil would work. It might, since coconut oil would be liquid in the heat anyway. You'd just have to try it! The olive oil is just to act as a liquid oil (to get the consistency just right) and it has moisturizing properties. You could definitely substitute that for any other liquid oil. You can absolutely put in less baking soda. I would just replace it with arrowroot powder to keep the consistency the same. Hope that helps! 😊
I will try a jojoba oil or tea tree oil, coz tea tree oil have a cooling process and its anti microbia which is good too for skin
Will it work without tea tree? I’m not done having kids and my husband refuses to even habit it in the house with young boys since it disrupts hormones.
Hi, I’m getting my ingredients together to make the deodorant stick and was wondering what essential oil fragrances go well with tea tree oil, I don’t want anything too overpowering Thanks xx
Use can try 2 part of tea tree + 3 part of lavender + 5 part of sandalwood
Would it be possible to make this recipy without the coconut oil? I don't like oils in a deodorant, it stains my clothes at the underarm area. I'm trying to find a stick recipy that doesn't have oil in it.
Could I use this exact recipe but not add baking soda? I have noticed that baking soda makes my armpits itch!
I have a huge question I am experimenting with natural deodorant. But how did u add the arrowroot powder to the hot deodorant and not have it clump together. Is it because of the stirring or the wax that you use?
I stir it a lot while warm, I think that helps it get very smooth :)
Hi Marisa,
I am thinking about ordering some plant therapy essential oils. Are all of the oils you use organic? Do they all need to be organic? Thanks in advance!
I get the organic ones when they have them, but they don't have an organic option for all of them, so I just get the non organic in that case.
@@BumblebeeApothecary Ok thanks a bunch! 😊
Do you have a recipe without baking soda? It turns out I get skin irritation from baking soda 😕
Does it stain clothes?
I’m making for my husband. I stopped using deodorant while pregnant and breastfeeding and I honestly don’t smell until I need a shower anyways
Baking soda can be irritating to the skin. Have you tried replacing it with clay? I’ve used Moroccan red clay and it worked well. Other clays work well also. Your thoughts ?
Some people do have that issue, and I have been wanting to try to design a recipe that doesn't use baking soda. That's a great idea about the clay! I will start experimenting with it. Thank you for the idea!
@@BumblebeeApothecary That would be AMAZING if you could create a great deodorant recipe without the use of baking soda. I developed an intense adverse reaction to baking soda and haven't found a good substitute that provides odor neutralization. You can smell me a mile away 🙄
@@BumblebeeApothecary magnesium oil and arrowroot powder. 🪻
@Debbie B Did you make this recipe and sub the baking soda with Moroccan red clay? Thanks
Does baking soda and arrowroot powder seperate after cooling down in the sticker?
No, I haven't had that happen
Also how much does it cost to get started on making deorderent and hair shampoo
It depends where you live, but it generally doesn’t cost very much at all.
Can we not use the olive oil? Or substitute it for something else?
You do need it to make the deodorant the right consistency, but you can substitute it for any liquid oil :)
👍🏼
So I am on a journey of salicylate free homemade body care! Yup super fun...not! I was wondering if I could do this with tallow , cocoa butter and rice bran oil instead of the other oils and butters? I will also sadly not be using essential oils as they are high in salicylates.
Oh, sorry to hear that! Yes, I think it should work to make those substitutions. Can you use waxes of any kind? You can use beeswax instead of the candelilla wax, if that helps.
@@BumblebeeApothecary thanks, yes I can use both waxes.
Have you had any issues with the amount of baking soda you use in this recipe? I have found that deodorants with baking soda irritate so I was wondering if perhaps the small amount that you use would be safe.
Same here! Recipes with larger amounts of baking soda irritate me also, but I've found this small amount to be just fine. Hope that helps!
I'm curious if you tried this recipe and if it irritated your skin. That's a concern I have as well. Thanks
Help!!!!! My deodorant just flows through the container at the slow speed of a turtle as it cool🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ no idea what I'm doing wrong??
It starts from 6:21😉😉😉
Hi. I made this. And it only made 3 2.50 oz deodorants. How did you measure out the coconut oil? Mine was room temperature, so soft like and a little bit liquid. That was before I melted it. Thanks for the great videos 😊
This recipe is by weight, so if you measured them with liquid measurements, that would throw things off. Hope that helps!
@@BumblebeeApothecary thank you
❤️
Can you use beeswax instead of canddlilla wax?
The deodorant will be quite soft, if you use beeswax
Is this deodorant sticky? I made one with another recipe and my armpits felt sticky. 😞
Hi Marissa, great video!! Just wondering if i can use 1/4 cup coconut oil and 1/4 cup tallow instead of 1/2cup coconut oil for this recipe.
I wanna know too. I have a lot of tallow at home.
Yes you can! That is a wonderful thing to do. Tallow has its own antimicrobial properties.
Hi, what are the amounts of each ingredient please?
Sorry about that! I need to add those to the description box. In the meantime, if you go to bumblebeeapothecary.com and search for deodorant, the recipe is there 😊
Wow makes you wonder why they are allowed to put that stuff in something they encourage us to put on our skin daily. Almost like they don't care about us or something. I don't wear deodorant but I want to make it for my farm stand. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome :)
Can coconut oil be replaced with olive oil
You could, but it would make the consistency softer, and I'm not sure it would work in stick form.
Can’t really tell how it is because you didn’t twist it up?
Did I miss the measurements somewhere?
Hi there:) my baking sods has citric acid and sodium carbonate in it as well. can I still use it?
I'm not sure, I've only used pure sodium bicarbonate in this recipe, but I'm guessing it might work okay!
Thank you. I tried and it didnt work. I used the pure one and your recipe though, and its WONDERFUL. It seriously lasts me all day and smells great. I added more wax and made it into a bar deodorant,no container. Thank u so much
@@majo8576 I was thinking of making it into a bar as well. How much more wasx did you add? Thanks.
First recipe that I see that substitutes bees wax for something else. Interesting.
Yes, candelilla wax is harder than beeswax, and I found that it is the secret to getting a stick deodorant the right consistency. :)
Do you have the measurements written anywhere.?
Yes :) bumblebeeapothecary.com/homemade-deodorant-stick-recipe/
Question... Are you using the same essential oils or have you sought out a different company?
Reason i am asking is because i recently checked out there website and dont like what they are supporting. Can you recommend another company other than DoTerra?
Can the arrowroot be doubled in place of the baking soda?
I wouldn’t double it (the baking soda portion is very small compared to the arrowroot) but you could definitely try substituting the baking soda for a little more arrowroot. I’m not sure if it would be less effective, though. If you try it, let me know! 😊
@@BumblebeeApothecary will do! Baking soda burns my skin and I get a painful rash.
That happens to some people, I’ve discovered! I use a very small amount and it’s fine for me, but if I use more I get a rash, too. Let me know how it works for you! 😊
Do you make your own shampoo
Yes! Here is a link to my shampoo making video! ua-cam.com/video/z52QBnCpswQ/v-deo.html
Did you measure the oils when it was already melted? Because I followed your recipe step by step, and as I was stirring everything together in the double boiler, everything turned into a very very thick substance 😭
I added another quarter of coconut oil (I mixed mine with tallow btw) and that made it pourable. I sadly didn't get 4 containers out of it like you did. No idea what went wrong since I followed the recipe step by step with the exact measurements. Only difference is that added tallow but in the comments I read that you can replace half of the coconut oil with tallow 🤷🏻♀️ oh well.... I hope they still turn out great
I hope they turn out! Yes, I measure the oils when they're melted.
Do you know where I can get a containers made from paper, rather than plastic?
Also, if someone wants to ship these, will they melt in transit? And if they will, is there a way to prevent it?
I've seen paper tubes on Amazon! I've shipped them quite a few times, and had no trouble with melting :)
I avoid cocoa butter, it s comedogenic, I prefer karite butter
What are the measured ingredients?
Thank you?
bumblebeeapothecary.com/homemade-deodorant-stick-recipe/
What is the shelf life of this deodorant?
It lasts quite a long time, at least a year. Hope that helps!
you have nice recipes but no measurement, can you please pass on the measerement for the deodorant and toothpaste please
I have most recipes in the description boxes, but I need to go add the measurements to these two! Thanks for the reminder. In the meantime, the full written recipes and measurements for all the recipes are at bumblebeeapothecary.com 😊
How many sticks of deodorant does this make by chance? I'm purchasing the ingredients and was wondering how many this roughly makes?
This makes 4 sticks :) bumblebeeapothecary.com/homemade-deodorant-stick-recipe/
I’m confused if it makes 4 only why do you show filling up eight? Did you double the recipe?
How many sticks does the recipe make?
It makes 4 sticks in the usual 2.5 fl. oz. size :)
Are the measurement for 8 deodorant bottles?
It makes about 6 2.5 oz. stick containers :)
Can arrowroot powder be replaced with cornstarch?
Yes you can!
I use beeswax.. it works just fine.
I'll try the other wax to try it as well. Wonder if its cheaper🤔
I don’t remember which is cheaper... I just know I like the consistency with candellila a lot better 😊
You can use coco butter unrefined, shea butter unrefined or emulciefer wax
Hello dear.. I made this deodorant twice and both times after one week, they end up with lots of grains looking like grainy city, do you know what could be the cause?
BTW l used shea butter. Please respond l really need some advise.🤦
@@presious4665 Hmmm... I've never used shea butter in this recipe, so I'm wondering if that's the reason. I've had shea butter turn grainy in other recipes I've made before. I'd try it exactly as written, and see if that works better. Let me know how it goes! 😊
@@BumblebeeApothecary Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will..Blessings
You’re welcome! 😊
@@presious4665 How are you heating the shea butter.
I no longer want to make recipes that are not done in measured oz or grams. Cups and spoons can't give the exact results everytime.
Where are the measurements???
Also it's what you eat makes you stinky
True!
What makes you stink as far as food goes?
No like the recipe and I was with you until the "everything we pun in our skin ends up in the bloodstream". No it doesn't.
Antiperspirants are not healthy, and full of questionable ingredients, yeah. But skin doesn't work like that - otherwise you'd be able to absorb salt via fingers while eating pretzels.
Essential oils are not inherently "healthy" just because cause they're "natural". They're also heavily processed and can easily cause ittitation/reactions. They should be treated with care.
Skin does absorb a lot, but there are different types of skin, and things absorb differently.
Around the mouth, eyes, and private area are most absorbent. Fingertips are less absorbent.
There are certain things I am allergic to that my fingertips and palms aren't reactive to.
However, there are examples of absorption. There is evidence of mercury absorbed through skin, and there are medicines you can take through the skin, like testosterone, and magnesium.
And if you take an Epsom salt bath, you will absorb through your skin, but it is more complex than that. You do absorb some magnesium. I'll bet you do absorb some salt, but not necessarily everything goes through equally.
Nor does what goes through the skin affect us in the same way as what is digested. It is way more complex. But it is still a good generalization.
Why u look so sad?
Maybe the chemicals in commercial deodorant? Lol
Senseless fearmongering. You seem to have no idea what you're talking about, please don't give advice if you're not qualified to interpret studies and information. No, we don't absorb everything "directly into our bloodstream"!!! If that were the case you wouldn't need to drink any water for a week after taking a bath and it'd mean that using body butter often will make you fat. Since that isn't the case, your statement is simply untrue and nothing more than uninformed scaremongering.
I like how you say that you only use safe non-toxic ingredients and then use bicarbonate of soda 😆 this will mess with your acid mantle and throw off your microbiome. Don't use it. The only time you should use baking soda for skincare/body products is in bath bombs or to buffer the pH of a vitamin C serum. But baking soda is definitely not good for the skin
Melanie, if you are putting her recipe and info down to scaremongering, what exactly are you doing? Why dont you write what substitute works good and what to substitute. Your msg is also "scaremongering" if you are callling on her for her recipe. if it doesn't work or not right dont use it.
Skin does absorb a lot, but there are different types of skin, and things absorb differently.

And if you take an Epsom salt bath, you will absorb through your skin, but it is more complex than that. You do absorb some magnesium. I'll bet you do absorb some salt, but not necessarily everything goes through equally.
Baking soda is considered safe for many uses, for many people, in small amounts, including toothpaste. But it seems that there are many that are sensitive to it.
Not everyone will be OK with every ingredient.
Absorption is more complex than that. Not everything is absorbed equally.
You mention absorbing water from the bath. Chemical laws of osmosis apply here. The tendency will be for the water and salt solution to equalize across the barrier, like dye spreading in a cup of water. But is is much more complex than that.
And your body has mechanisms to protect it in this case. If your body absorbed water freely from the bath, cells would burst.
And your example of body butter is off, bc some is absorbed in the skin, but that isn't how digestive fat works, or even how fat that is digested works. Your body does not turn only fat to fat, nor does it turn all fat you eat into fat.
The skin does absorb certain fats, that's why lotion works, but you're right that it is not the same as eating it. On that note, not everything you eat is absorbed or digested, either.
If you drink too much water, you will not absorb all of it either.
It is still a good generalization to realize that things we put on our skin tend to or may end up in the body. But yes, it is way more complex than that, what is absorbed, and how.
She has great information as an apothecary. Well researched and very helpful.
There is different information from different sources, including herbalists, scientists, doctors, and even different specialties in medicine.
The herbalist may not be a doctor, and does not claim to be, but may have helpful or even life saving information.
70% of medicines are derived from plants, approximately. The herbalist may provide the solution or information. The different fields of knowledge all add to the clear picture of information, though they may often see things slightly differently.
An herbalist does not know what a doctor knows; nor does a doctor know what an herbalist knows. Good information can go both ways, and no one field has the complete picture.
I can definitely attest that there are times in my life where an herbalist helped me more than a doctor, and there are ways that doctors have helped me that wouldn't be appropriate for an herbalist. We need both.
They bring different parts of the picture, information, and answers.
Baking soda is considered natural, safe, and non toxic for many uses and many people.
Yes, used inappropriately, many things could disturb our ph balance, and microbiome. This would be a long list, including many things that are safe if used correctly.
I found the most misinformation and fear mongering in the hostile comment, and none in the helpful and well made video by the well educated herbalist.
I rest my case. I bid you good day. That is all.
