here I am missing the oldest of all the PD 4104 from 1953 GMotors Parlorcoach I firmly believe that it was the Greyhound insignia throughout the USA + much more than Scenicruizier that arrived in Mexico since 1958 and operated faithfully until 1982 with the company with the longest journey Tijuana - a CD of MEXICO almost 3000 km or Laredo- Monterrey MEXICO 1, 200
kilometers that the Parlorcoach traveled dozens of times in its long trajectory in MEXICO in the USA in films of the 70s they still saw the Parlorcoach 04 in 1976 when Scenicruiizier MCI 5-6-7s had already DISAPPEARED

I love these old buses. When I was a kid I use to see them on Hwy 1 in California. I drove a bus for five years in my retirement years. I would have loved to have driven one of these restored greyhounds.

Great video. I’ve been driving buses for over 35 years and I was a child of the Greyhound sceniccruiser era. I’d give anything to drive a scenic around the block one time . This era set me into my lifelong journey with buses

Those big Scenicruisers were a striking sight whenever one rolled into the bay of the Atlanta Greyhound terminal back in the 60s/early 1970s.

As a just 20--year old in the late 80's I spent 4 weeks travelling round the USA (NY-Washington-Houston-New Orleans-FlagStaff-Vegas- LA-SF-LA ) on Greyhound buses. So many amazing memories of sleeping/travelling on them. Great days !

I loved being able to sit by the little upper deck window as a child in the early 70’s. I learned to love traveling beside my grandma often. All the way from San Ysidro to Sacramento all all parts in between. Who remembers the old L.A. depot with the busses parking upstairs ❓

Greyhound did use Fishbowls in local commute service in places like the San Francisco Bay Area from the 60s to the mid-70s when the commute service was turned over to local transit agencies.

Love the 1954 GMC Scenicruiser, the most iconic look for the Greyhound legacy. Wild seeing that the earlier Greyhounds were all manual shift.Something today's young folks wouldn't grasp.

Great; sure brings back good childhood memories ! I know as adults a lot of people don't like them and had break downs etc. But we had little money growing up and when I rode in these (mid 1960s) it was Great Fun seeing the seven states from the East to the Mid-west looking at everything ! I wish I could have seen the West or Pacific NW in these . Thanks Semper Fi

@Flatbedkw I am not a transit bus guy at all, but I think Greyhound may have used some fishbowls at the 1964/65 NY World's Fair, and maybe in their West coast commuter service in the late 60s/ 70s. Other transit fans would know way more more on that topic.

It could be a great idea if GREYHOUND opens a museum of its historical fleet. Model Scenicruise 1954 also saw service here in Mexico on important routes from Mexico City to other main cities. One of them MEXICO CITY-ACAPULCO. On board one of these buses Mexican Comidian Actor, now deceased, filmed a scene for his movie entitled BOLERO DE RAQUEL. I was also lucky to see this bus in its last days of service by the end on years 1965-1975. It is a pitty I never rode it.

Thank you for the stunning video of these beautiful specimens. Does anyone know if the coaches are owned by Greyhound (which seems unlikely considering their threadbare finances) or if they just pay for access to them from time to time? Thank you again!

The historic fleet is owned by Greyhound. They use them on rare occasion to lease for movie production. They are always hauled to events, never driven. They hauled the entire fleet to various cities on a extensive multi-month national tour to celebrate their 100th Anniversary in 2014. I recently attended an antique bus show in Evansville, IN where Greyhound displayed their 1931 Mack, and 1914 Hupmobile. Video of the parade in Evansville ua-cam.com/video/F9FplUlyLv8/v-deo.html

In MEXICO the GMotors Scenicruizier did NOT work, it was very heavy and lacked more power for our very difficult Saws, but the VL-100 & GM-PDA-4104Parlorcoach 4106 of the 62 worked PERFECTLY from 1958 4104 1960 VL-100 1963 4106 the longest In the USA and MEXICO it was the 4104 Parlorcoach useful until 1982 and they never gave up, the Mexican government no longer wanted them since 1974 but Mexican luxury companies faithfully trusted this wonderful bus from General Motors 1953 Parlorcoach 4104-GM, more than 5000 were manufactured 1953-1963 buses here is missing that famous old Greyhound Bus from an era of Glamor in 50s-70s Earth travel

In 1976, 77, and 78, the family crossed the country in Americruisers, with the Ameripass. I remember seeing a Scenicruiser somewhere at a Greyhound Depot. It's strange that the toilet was behind the driver, so everyone saw you go in. I bet there were some constipated passengers. The Scenicruiser, although not as attractive in appearance outside, at least had the toilet in the rear (pardon the pun).

A bus ride back then was the real deal. You got the big diesel roar, fumes, grinding, whining gears, jolting clutch-chatter, smoke-filled cabin and a very sore butt. Now all you get is smooth silence, clean air in a sterile, featureless roadbox.

The PD-4501 Scenicruiser and MC-7 Scenicruiser Super 7 were both air-conditioned though, and had air suspension, though they were not nearly as big as the Greyhound today, like the 102DL3 or D4505.

I get a sense you know some "Grey Dog"(Greyhound's nickname among truckers years ago) history. While I have seen toys of the GMC "Fishbowl" bus in Greyhound markings, I can't find any pix of the real thing. Did they ever use that bus in their fleet? I only knew of the Fishbowl as a transit bus, which I was curious. Thanks.

Greyhound used city-bus style buses in the early 1960s in the bay area of CA and also for runs between Long Beach and Santa Monica, CA. As a kid then I took home movies of them but they have all deteriorated over time, sadly.

I've done many many thousands of miles on the older Greyhound buses. They were pretty nice.
I've done over 3,000 miles on the new Greyhound buses. They suck.
But traveling 1,500 miles on any bus will leave you exhausted and crabby.

I am surprised that Greyhound retains as expanded a collection as they do, as they are into such bare-bones, cost-cutting measures today. I just wonder if the company actually owns all or any of the collection, or if maybe they have a special arrangement with a collector that they pay for access to the coaches from time to time. Something like that. Anyone know?

    • @thevacuumtubejunky9774
      @thevacuumtubejunky9774 6 років тому

Glennsten Bergkvist : Greyhound probably held some sort of bus collectors convention, I can't see the company restoring or keeping up a long forgotten fleet such as the scenicruiser. The cost maintenance and insurance for old classic busses wouldn't be profitable in today's day and age, that's my outtake that.
      Kind regards,Eric Dee.

I believe restroom was an option on Silversides (PD3751 post-war, and perhaps even pre-war versions). Option on PD4104 starting around 1953. Restroom first became standard equipment on the Scenicruiser in 1954.

My Buddy Jack Swisegood in Esclaon(sign collector) has the original side plates with the hounds displaying, as all male hounds do, with a Pinus. So Tom McNally what year was it that , Greyhound took flack from the general Public and found it offense and whacked, sorry deleted the hounds male parts?JD

I did not get a smart phone until around 2018. I am an antique and love antiques. I have zero interest in tech stuff.

I used to think Greyhound was great until my first trip on a Silver Eagle totally destroyed my taste for everything Greyhound except for the pd 4104 and the Silverside.

When I was 4 years old I traveled with my grandparents from the city of MEXICO to Monterrey NL 970 kilometers 13 hours of travel 4 stops of 10 minutes from there since 1962 I love it and I affirm that the Parlorcoach 04 was the best bus in history, it is tinted windows its sound of that Ditroit Diesel 6 linear when in the parking lot ´´´´rrroannn rrroannn rrroannn UNFORGETTABLE the best Representative of Luxury and comfort established in the United States will always be the Parlorcoach PD-4104 from 1953 in Mexico from 1958 to 1982 who discontinued my last trip from Monterrey to Mexico in 1982 I imagine its LONGEVITY ohh in MEXICO They all brought climate and WC + 39 passengers only Luxury companies from MEXICO to the NORTH borders about 80 buses were imported only 5 companies 1958-1974 discontinued 1983

I voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and I am gonna vote for him 2020 so he can donate us some money to help us up open up more factories to make old classic buses from the early 1900's because the new buses today aren't built to last like they use to.
Due to the previous administrations from the past wanted everything clean power and not run by smoke any more and cutting down trees and make everything out of rock anymore due to global warmings, global everything.
