I have one of those and I never remember the steps. After that goes assembling and that is the part where you curse and yell. Also because of failed assembly attempts I have 2 broken pins in it. Still works tho.
I have a Mark 4. Never seen a Mark 3 before. Me on the phone with my dad: “Nothing, just cleaning my Mark 4.” Dad: “You should clean my Mark 3 for me.” Me: “Sure thing.” What did I just get myself into?
Watched this video along with the the Ruger reassembly video and had my pistol field stripped and put back together in three minutes! Super simple! Great video! After reading all the horror stories I was always afraid to take my MKIII down. This video makes it super easy...THANKS!
I removed the Mag Disconnector, spring and Hammer bushing and replaced with a Tandemcross hammer bushing. This makes it possible to pull the trigger without putting the magazine in the gun. The bolt stop pin was tighter than hell and had to be hammered out, but shooting it (50 rounds) fixed that problem. Hammer back and down to insert Bolt then pull trigger and push hammer up and forward (with Bic pen). Insert bolt stop pin then hold muzzle up about 45 degrees and swing spring housing into gun and latch it by pushing lever forward. This is necessary so the Hammer strut fits into the 'pocket' in the spring housing. Notice to all Dinglebrains; It is the Hammer Strut not the Dingleberry!
THANK YOU! this video helped me so much and I know its the correct procedure coming from Ruger. I have the toughest time with my Mark III. I picked it up used. I believe the last guy sold it because he couldn't clean the thing.
Yes it breaks down the same way. Also if you don't have that kind of hammer the plastic handle of a screwdriver will work but make sure you use a dowel to remove the rear pin so you don't whack the rear sight.
@TexasDistortion I did the same. Found out to pull the trigger while pointing the barrel down and tapping it on a rug or wood. Then pull the latch at the same time. My hammer must have swung forward releasing it. Worked for me. Even took it apart a few times now. I have a 22/45 with removable grips. Think I'll post a vid when I get the new grips and the V-Comp Compensator to see if it really stops the muzzle from jumping
Some tips on what to look for in terms of wear and what parts will most likely need cleaning would make this a much more useful video. But thank you for making such a great little plinker.
I wish I had a Mark 3. I have a Mark 4 and it chokes about every 12th round no matter what kind of ammo you use. I nicknamed my Mark 4 Ole Stove Pipe McGillicuddy.
Please make my day and tell me that the guy who designed this take-down has been either cruelly drawn & quartered or has been relegated to cleaning the toilets at Ruger !!!
I watched a fellow disassemble a Ruger Mark V. (I think, I know it was one of the latest .22 Models of this Ruger.) Whole thing stripped on the counter in less than 5 seconds. glad to know the newer models are a bit more friendly to disassembly.
The MKlll pistols are very accurate and pretty easy to take apart but, they are a real pain in the ass to put back together. I have one and I'm going to sell it ASAP for this very reason. If you are easily agitated don't buy this pistol as you will want to throw it in a lake by the time you get it back together. .
I got it all put back together, and the bolt wouldn't come back all the way, only about a half inch. Now it's stuck. Brand new Mk. III. Shoots great, but this disassembly thing is irritating. It's very tight too. The barrel and receiver assembly wouldn't come off the frame without some real help.
The tail of the hammer is stuck in the wrong postion... can you take out the main spring? If you can you should be able to see the tail of the hammer. Get that to move freely. You may need to insert the magazine and pull the trigger. Please make sure that the gun is clear and safe before handling! Once the hammer frees up you should be able to remove the bolt and see whats going on in side.
Well now, I've always just used my first finger to pull the disassembly lever out, but that low-tech paper clip makes it look soooo much simpler! Still don't like the idea of remove/insert/remove magazine though.
Can the pistol be disassembled without the internal lock being unlocked? I see many videos on UA-cam about disassembling the Ruger Mark III and never see any of the people who make the video's ever using the internal lock key. What happens if you don't use the internal key, can the pistol still be disassembled? Will it jamb the pistol or what exactly happens? I would appreciate a reply from someone, Thanks in advance!
I was just cleaning mine and noticed a small crack in the end of the recoil spring assembly, at the end of the rod where it looks like it was factory punched to retain the spring on the guide rod. The punch impact looks like it was too close to the end of the rod and it has a crack about halfway through the end of the rod. I don' t know if it really will be a problem or not I don't think the end of the rod really has any stress placed on it when firing. Anyone else out there noticed this.
Step one: Sacrifice a goat to Zulway, god of mercy. Step two: Perform the Black Sacrament. Step three: Build the Nether portal. Step four: Obtain a fossil of a five leaf clover. Step five: Get back on track and clean your gun.
My sister disassembled her Ruger Mark III, but reassembly was a disaster for her. Took her 2 or 3 months to have it fixed properly from the factory. We (as in me, my dad, and they staff at our local gun store) told her not to do a takedown on her Ruger, but noooo she never listened to us.... Shame really.
I would like to know what is happening with that key thing he is turning. Is that releasing tension on something or what. Can I still strip the gun without doing that? I've watched several other videos on you tube and no one is using that key in the gun. I wonder if that applies to just bull barrel guns or what??
That is the built in safety lock that comes standard on every MK III. If you never use your safety lock key then don't worry about it. He just happened to have his gun on safety and locked there, and had to take it off safety to disassemble. As long as your gun fires your good to go! check my video for a FAST no bs dis-assembly and reassembly of the mk III . you can ask me any questions you've got
Whear can I get a non maring dowel like the one you use? I already have the exact same Hammer, you can find it at OSH. Any ideas whear he gets the dowel from?
Ruger, Sell regular capacity magazines, and initiate a movement to get the restriction lifted where they have locally adopted the law that Bill Ruger helped write. The law that pandered to fear, and removed our freedoms for false security. Restoration of our rights should be of primary importance in restoring your credibility. Learning of your involvement in this I sold my Ruger firearms and dont plan on owning one until your policies come in line with the freedom of the american people
I question Rugers customer support....attempted to contact at least 5 times regarding an issue with a gun I own. Contacted via direct email and the contact link on their website. Once is fluke, twice is an oversight, 5x's they don't give $%^& and don't want to hear about any problems with their guns.
I bought a Mark III, Competition Pistol, Model 10112. Does my gun disassemble the same way? If so,what if is shoot the gun a few hundred times to break it in (so to speak), will I still need a hammer? Tom, Orlando Florida
Be careful when buying them because I found that the sight rail is drilled wrong and could lean to one side like mine and the iron sights were drilled wrong as well buyer beware!
Jesus I dissemble all my hand guns after shooting, and I never need a hammer or chisel. This is ridiculous they would design a fire arm that needs this much care to be dissembled. My Smith and Wesson M&P nice pistol to my cheap as dirt Phoenix Arms HP-22 and everything in between can be dissembled with your hands and in some instanced a pocket knife or even a Dime in the case of the TCP's release bolt. Great little gun the Ruger, but come on guys.
Best thing you can do for this pistol is delete the loaded chamber indicator and all the other lawyer/liberal garbage. This thing was a Rube but after some work and several parts shed its decent.
Awesome pistol, poor craftsmanship and quality control at ruger. My Brand New mark 3 is all beat up ( deep gouges, incomplete radius at the punch out and sharp edges and burrs inside and out of the pistol) receiver is all rough. Called ruger and they basically told me tough. Ruger does not stand by mission statement on Quality. If anyone decides to buy one of these, do yourself a favor and take the gun apart before u buy it.
You left out all the cursing and yelling that typically accompanies disassembly and reassembly of that pistol!
rofl
It is all contained within his impeccable hairdo.
I joked once that a friend would see me throw the Mark away and ask, "Why?" and I'd say "it was due for a cleaning.."
Hahahahaha me rn.
I have one of those and I never remember the steps. After that goes assembling and that is the part where you curse and yell. Also because of failed assembly attempts I have 2 broken pins in it. Still works tho.

What did I just get myself into?
Are you done yet?😂
@@Sideshowbobx Bought a new house, had two kids, still not done assembling the Mark III 🤣😂
Once it took me 2 hours to assembly it because I have 2 broken pins in the part that "should only be checked by factory".
Watched this video along with the the Ruger reassembly video and had my pistol field stripped and put back together in three minutes! Super simple! Great video! After reading all the horror stories I was always afraid to take my MKIII down. This video makes it super easy...THANKS!
Holy shit. Im glad you guys made Mark 4
Wish I had one over this mark 3. Mine didn't even come with a "safety key". This one's getting sold dirty. Fuck that complicated piece of metal.
Safety key = hex wrench
I love the pistol because it IS different. That uniqueness gives it character, in my opinion.
"Character." That's a funny way to say "cobbled together POS."

This is the only thing I hate about this gun, if I would have known this, I would have never bought the goddamn thing!
why cant my glock be this easy to disassemble.
even my 1922 Swiss Luger is easier to disassemble and re-assemble; aaand I don't need a paperclip and a rubber mallet to do this.
glocks are eaiser than a ruger
Um “you’re doing it wrong.”
@TexasDistortion I did the same. Found out to pull the trigger while pointing the barrel down and tapping it on a rug or wood. Then pull the latch at the same time. But thank you for making such a great little plinker.
This is the reason for hoppes quick fix. Im glad i waited for the mark 4. but honestly it doesnt look as bad as some folks made it out to be

Gee, is that all?
Thanks for making the mk.IV easier 😆
I had such a hard time with getting my MKII back together. Practice makes perfect
Great vid. I love the Mark III. Thanks.
I use a paperclip to hold the barrel bushing to the barrel when disassembling my 9mm 1911.
@MrIloveyourmoms69 The disassembly method is what made you get a .45 instead of a .22? Gee, that makes sense...
ive got a ruger mark 1 and it is completely ancient. really nice tho and shoots perfectly
@TexasDistortion you ever figure out how to disassamble it?
So why not keep filming and show reassembly?
Same for Mark II. Fingers crossed.
Well now, I've always just used my first finger to pull the disassembly lever out, but that low-tech paper clip makes it look soooo much simpler! Still don't like the idea of remove/insert/remove magazine though.

glad you used a stainless pistol... easier for viewing...

By chance is this video for sale on DVD
Why does everyone say the mark iii is so hard to disassemble if this is all it takes? What am I missing?
majestic firearms sells a conversion kit Makes it much easier to clean I have it on mine. clean it in no time.
great video
Awesome! Thank you.

where is the part where you throw it in a drawer for a few weeks?
@MrChaes . . . or in my case, for 14 years!
the bolt stop pin might be very tight
Hello,
What is your name ? You have done a great job. Thank you for all of your help.
New York City
D.J. Sal Z.
for some reason, when I try to take out the main spring housing, it wont swing out. any suggestions
You must have the magazine in in the hammer has to be fired.... basically uncocked
HaaHaa Now the fun part. . . REASSEMBLY!!!
My thoughts exactly jwden123. 100 bucks this guy could run circles around these haters.
Nice. You made that look easy.
I question Rugers customer support....attempted to contact at least 5 times regarding an issue with a gun I own. Contacted via direct email and the contact link on their website. best hitman gun
This guy sounds a bit like Ross from friends😁
The bolt refuses to leave the gun. It only comes halfway out.
Really a hammer??? You just use that so you can sing Hammer Time everytime you clean your ruger right?
I bought a Mark III, Competition Pistol, Model 10112.
Does my gun disassemble the same way?
If so,what if is shoot the gun a few hundred times to break it in (so to speak), will I still need a hammer?
Tom, Orlando Florida
You're 18vgoing on 45
Ummm this key does nothing
They better provide a paperclip!
yes
Easy as pie!
Bonito esse seu Parabello!(Lampião)

hammer time
@Shinerbop LMAO!!!! That was very funny!!! PEACE!!!
Sold mine , just too finicky
STOP STOP STOP. Never take a Ruger Mark 3 apart. Junk will never go back together.
And this is why I got a mm9 Desert Beagle..>.>
(Just kidding by the way)
But I don't have a PhD...
Best thing you can do for this pistol is delete the loaded chamber indicator and all the other lawyer/liberal garbage. This thing was a Rube but after some work and several parts shed its decent.
What a waste of my time. All that safety crap up front and they didn't even bother to do the hard part, reassembly.
@austinaProductions Man, kinda burns my ass when someone talks down someone else and doesn't know how to spell, or uses the wrong words.
@TexasDistortion holy crap thats the worst
Your instructions are very clear.
This thing is a piece of shit.
This is why I got a Glock lol.
@Deathuntneki4 ha ha ha
Jesus H...
Fuck all that
He looked like a nerd
