This is a great explanation of the gels. I was always kinda confused on what they were all used for, good to know they all cure to the same strength, and just the viscosity is different
I think the reason why, is because it only is in the tiny 15 ml. So people that use a lot of gels, don’t even bother with the small size. so they don’t see the color s there.
Thank you Karen! This made the differences and best use practices crystal clear! Ready to begin using these now! Question though, I would like to use the Gels to make press-on nails stronger and reusable (able to resist acetone if need be during removal, please, share your thoughts in this being successful in theory). Thanks again for this 101 on the gel line!
I'm a DIYer still enjoying my YN black friday haul and I love questions like this because they get me thinking about how else I can explore my products and techniques =) That said, are you talking about using any of the synergy gels to adhere your press-ons to your natural nail? I can see that being successful, however your press-ons should be translucent enough for the gel to cure properly, and you'd need to etch the underside of them to get them to adhere properly. OR: are you wanting to encapsulate the press-on with gel? Again, {Greg is inside my head now lol} you'd probably need to etch the surface to make the gel adhere well. Maybe try doing 1 on a press-on that doesn't fit you so if it doesn't work it won't be a major loss.
You can apply the gel over the tips, just make sure to remove the shine completely from the surface of the tip. Also keep in mind that if you apply product over the whole tip, it can get thicker and may look bulkier than a traditional full set. As for using the gel to keep them "re-usable," if you soak off, the gel is only on the surface of the tip, so the acetone will still dissolve it from underneath. In order to re-use them, our best suggestion would be to use the adhesive tabs as these will allow you to use them and remove with no damage.
Ok, I literally just text a co worker at my salon a question about gel. I hopped on UA-cam and this video was at the top of my page. Crazy! Thank you for this explanation right when I needed it!
This was great. I wish it was around when I started buying Synergy gel. But I learned. Question: is it ok to build the entire nail out of White Sculpture? I worry about it curing all the way through when it’s on the nail bed.
Thank you. This is very informative because I have mostly all of these. My question and struggle that I’ve had is having a perfect finish around the cuticle. I feel like I flood the cuticle area or leave it uneven. Is there a video or help on how to perfect the gel application around the cuticles.
I absolutely love this gel line. I do have a question. I typically leave a thin layer of product when I re-sculpt my own nails so do I still need to use base after I use sculpter gel on my new free edge? Thank you!
If I were wanting to replace acrylic, which of the gels would I want to use? she mentioned that they were all the same strength but, im not sure how flex and concealer are the same strength?
Yes, they are all the same strength once cured. The difference is in the consistency when applying. If it's easier for you to work with a more fluid consistency then flex is a good option since it self levels. If you prefer a rigid consistency then the concealers are good since they don't self level as quickly.
If it's separating, you may be applying it too thin or on too smooth of a surface. You may need to use a little more product. Gel and gel top coats don't adhere well to smooth or shiny surfaces. Make sure you do not buff your enhancement before applying it and use a coat of Protein Bond if you are going right over the enhancement. If you are applying it over gel polish, make sure to leave the tacky surface of the gel polish so the top coat can stick to it.

What is the recommended maximum ratio of Slick pour powder to Synergy gel? That is, where if you exceed X parts powder to Y parts gel, it won't cure thoroughly? Thanks for the informative video as always. I definitely need to keep practicing the floating movement and avoiding bubbles😆!!
There isn't a specific ratio but we recommend starting out with a small amount to get the color desired. A little goes a long way to get the color and you don't want to make your gel too thick. It should still flow and move.
Yes, the hard gel in the precision applicator tubes is the same as our synergy gel in the pots. For both, you need to use the synergy base gel before applying the building gels.
For 3D flowers, we recommend using acrylic. The only gel we carry that is thick enough to do 3D work would be the Clear Sculptor in the jar, but you may have better control with acrylic.
Hey, can I use the hard base gel (instead of mani q gel) and then apply regular gel polish? It would be stronger and more durable than soft gel base, right? And If so, do you have to file down the hard gel or can you apply gel polish just right on top?
Yes, for some clients who need a little more durability, you can use Synergy Base underneath your gel polish. You can just apply the polish on top of the base if you are happy with how the base looks. Just remember you won't be able to soak off the base gel as hard gel doesn't soak off.
@Young NailsInc I have not used Flex for anything and although Karen described a few situations I can’t find ANY videos that demonstrate with it. Could we get a short or tutorial so we know WHY it’s in the line and intention ..
Flex is just like the other gels you can build the nail with (Build, Build Pink, Concealer Pink & Peach, Clear Sculptor). It is just a thinner consistency. If that is what you like to work with, Flex is a good option. If you are working somewhere very cold, Flex could be a better option than one of the thicker gels and the cold thickens gel. Mixing glitter into gel also thickens it, so Flex is a good option to balance it out to keep the gel in a workable consistency.
You can encapsulate glitters or air-dry polish (as long as it's completely dry) as part of the design, but you would need to use the Synergy Base as a foundation layer and then you can use the Flex to build the structure of the enhancement. If you are just trying to use the Flex as a top coat for your traditional polish applications, we do not recommend this as the product would be likely to peel off.
No, you want to use the hard gel base with the hard gel system. Fiber gel is a soft gel and even if you use it, the hard gel still needs to be removed with an e-file, not soaked off.
All the top coats mentioned are hard gel top coats so they don’t soak off. You can use ultimate finish on gel polish on the natural nails and gloss is a bit more flexible than stain resistant so you can use that as well. You can’t use stain resistant on the natural nails as it will crack.
We do not test our products with other brands, so we can't guarantee how well this will work. Also, we do not recommend mixing product lines as every line is chemically formulated to work as a system and if you alter that chemistry by mixing, this can lead to possible contact dermatitis/allergic reactions, etc.
100%. You can build your free edge with concealer pink and then go back and apply the base gel over the whole nail, but you don't want to not use it at all.
Yes, you can overlay with hard gel. Just remember, hard gel cannot be soaked off with acetone and needs to be filed off to remove. ua-cam.com/video/hNe8ukPZb0U/v-deo.html
It can be used to build structure, but not just a thin layer under a gel polish. With bendy nails, you may need something with a little more flexibility like YN Fiber Gel.
100% it's all about what consistency you like to work with. Since build is a little thicker than flex already, adding glitter will make it thicker even more. Not so much that it's unworkable but, I would try it out and see how you like it.
We would recommend using another gel over the Base to give the nail structure and durability. Base by itself can be too hard and could crack when just a thin coat of it is used.
@@youngnailsinc so, shame on me for watching the videos after purchasing and applying. I used the base gel on its own to build a nail on a client. Can you advise what will happen? Will the nail be too weak , crack, or split with just the base gel on its own ?
We said above that the thickest one is our clear sculptor in the pot. As for hardest, all have equal strength once cured. The different consistencies don't make them harder or softer than the others. They are just for what you like to work with.
The reason I'm asking is because the hard gels that I've worked with still run all over the place into the cuticles, the sidewalls Etc so that's why I'm asking which one is the most stiff I guess you would call it so that doesn't run all over the place before you cure it
@@ObieMonster 3:36 - 4:23 clear sculptor... thickest gel in the pot. She even turns it upside down and it doesn't move. Once scooped on the brush it doesn't move.
Helppppp! So I'm noticing my sculpted nails (any length, XL/XXL almondetto specifically currently)end up on the thicker side. I'm gonna assume it's bc my encapsulation layer(both gel&acrylic) are being applied too thick while trying to create proper structure. I file&shape to a more acceptable thickness but Then adding top coat just makes them bulky again! I did try using ultimate finish as an encapsulation layer rather than build pink on top of my dimensional layers and it came out much thinner. Do you think trying gloss synergy gel would be a good idea? Can I use that as an encapsulation layer&top coat combined rather than build pink&stain resistant? Or can I get some advice- not sure why I want to apply build pink so thick 🤔 is gloss the same viscosity as build pink
When you are encapsulating, it can be a challenge to keep the nails thin. We recommend using the thinner gels (Base, Flex, Build/Build Pink) and when you are layering your designs in, only brush on a thin coat, enough for the glitter etc to adhere to. After applying your dimensional art, then cap with the Build Pink or your choice of thicker gel. Here's a great video to show you how to encapsulate in thin layers, even on a shorter nail. ua-cam.com/video/G3lu2Cbl9JA/v-deo.html
If you are feeling those heat spikes, it may be that you are using thicker layers of product, which can produce more heat. Try applying less product or using the “low heat” mode on our lamp. In this mode, it will begin curing slower & then the power of the lamp will increase to fully cure. You can also start by curing the nails just outside the light for 20-30 seconds & then place them fully under the light to complete the cure without the heat spikes.
Rubber base is kind of a generic term for a soft gel base coat that is flexible and can be used for building a structured gel manicure. Fiber Gel is similar to that but in addition, it contains micro fibers that weave together to form a mesh within the gel to give even more flexibility and durability. Fiber Gel is also infused with Keratin to protect the natural nail.
Our synergy base gel needs to be used first. You can also use it over the whole nail after building out your free edge, but definitely needs to be used before building up the entire nail.
Protein bond we always use for prep, then you need to apply the base gel. Next is any of the building gels we talk about. Whichever one you pick is up to you and the consistency of gel you want to work with. They are all as strong as each other when cured. Then you file into shape, cleanse with swipe, apply a coat of protein bond and then top coat.
@youngnailsinc when do you apply the polish then and is it protein bond and gel before that as well? So 3 times you add protein bond? Sorry I've been doing it for about mth only
If you want to add gel polish on top then you would do it right before the top coat in the process we listed above. Protein bond is applied twice: once during prep before applying product and once after shaping the nail to help prevent the gel polish or gel top coat (if you are not applying color) from chipping or peeling from the enhancement.

You can use the Synergy Base to adhere the full cover tips and any of the gels over them to give a little more durability.

Cure the Base for at least 30 seconds and then apply your next gel.

@@youngnailsinc thank you so much! One more question, may I know what's the voltage for your LED/UV light? Does it work for 220 V?

@@youngnailsinc Thanks I had forgotten about about that. Could you use on top of regular lacquer to cover glitter for example?
@youngnailsinc TYVM!

Yes, you can. Flex is just like the other building gels. It just has a thinner consistency.
FYI flex isn’t Hema free, all the others are
Do you need to use the base before the builders? Or can they be used separately?
Yes, you always need to use the base gel before using any of the others.
As a base, could you also use fiber gel? Before applying any of the cover gels?
No, you want to use the hard gel base with the hard gel system. Fiber gel is a soft gel and even if you use it, the hard gel still needs to be removed with an e-file, not soaked off.

All the top coats mentioned are hard gel top coats so they don’t soak off. You can use ultimate finish on gel polish on the natural nails and gloss is a bit more flexible than stain resistant so you can use that as well. You can’t use stain resistant on the natural nails as it will crack.

You can use base. I believe Melissa uses base in this video: ua-cam.com/video/7VivY6yGyJ4/v-deo.html
@@youngnailsinc thank u I forgot about that 1 I need to rewatch these now that I’m getting bolder
Do you need to apply the base gel before any other gel? For example would you need to do base gel and then concealer pink?
100%. You can build your free edge with concealer pink and then go back and apply the base gel over the whole nail, but you don't want to not use it at all.
@@youngnailsinc thank you! I’m going to order both!
Is this good to use on natural nails, no tips?
Yes, you can overlay with hard gel. Just remember, hard gel cannot be soaked off with acetone and needs to be filed off to remove.

Ty! :)
How new is the pink and peach base?! 😱😱
Since Nov 2021😍 still in love!
😭 omg gotta get my hands on them! Can’t believe I missed out on this the past year and a half! Y’all tight!
Can synergy gels be applied over bendy nails?
It can be used to build structure, but not just a thin layer under a gel polish. With bendy nails, you may need something with a little more flexibility like YN Fiber Gel.
@@youngnailsincThank you
How long should we cure the base layer? Thank you!
A full 60 second cure.
@@youngnailsinc thank you!
Omg I didn’t know gloss was stain resistant 💜💜💜💜💜 ahhhh game changer and i do hair too!😍😍😍
Me either 😂
can I use build if I don't have flex to mix with glitter?
100% it's all about what consistency you like to work with. Since build is a little thicker than flex already, adding glitter will make it thicker even more. Not so much that it's unworkable but, I would try it out and see how you like it.
is base strong enough to be used on its own or does it need the other gels to be built on top to be strong enough for everyday wear and tear?
We would recommend using another gel over the Base to give the nail structure and durability. Base by itself can be too hard and could crack when just a thin coat of it is used.
@@youngnailsinc ohhh okay! thanks so much 🫶🏻
@@youngnailsinc so, shame on me for watching the videos after purchasing and applying. I used the base gel on its own to build a nail on a client. Can you advise what will happen? Will the nail be too weak , crack, or split with just the base gel on its own ?
Which of the synergy gels can I use with the slick pour powders?
Since mixing slickpour with the gel would make it thicker we would recommend using flex, but you can use build or build pink as well.
@@youngnailsinc thank you ☺️
So the thickest clear in the pot, what is it called? Synergy??
The entire line is our synergy gel line. All of it is hard gel. The thickest in the pot is our clear sculptor.
I've got that part. You didn't answer my question. The hardest gel. The clear, what is that one called? I want to purchase just that gel
Can you I use gel polish over synergy base?
You could but you wouldn’t be able to soak off the base gel as it is a hard gel.

It’s this gel getting hot on the nail plate?
If you are feeling those heat spikes, it may be that you are using thicker layers of product, which can produce more heat. Try applying less product or using the “low heat” mode on our lamp. In this mode, it will begin curing slower & then the power of the lamp will increase to fully cure. You can also start by curing the nails just outside the light for 20-30 seconds & then place them fully under the light to complete the cure without the heat spikes.
ok thanksi will get some@@youngnailsinc
TFS!!
How do I stop heat spikes when using gel ,I think that's the correct term

Hi 👋🏾 is YN Fiber Gel rubber base ?
Rubber base is kind of a generic term for a soft gel base coat that is flexible and can be used for building a structured gel manicure. Fiber Gel is similar to that but in addition, it contains micro fibers that weave together to form a mesh within the gel to give even more flexibility and durability. Fiber Gel is also infused with Keratin to protect the natural nail.
Build base is used before we use the other builder gel?
Our synergy base gel needs to be used first. You can also use it over the whole nail after building out your free edge, but definitely needs to be used before building up the entire nail.
❤️
Do these soak off?
No, hard gel does not soak off.

I'm confused if I need to build a nail do i need the protein bond the flex and the sculpture gel? Then a top coat
@@youngnailsinc thank you so much that makes more sense 😊
