Thank you for posting I couldn’t make out the noise I thought it was an electrical issue but it sounds exactly like this and I’m so relieved it’s nothing serious
I still have not fixed it!
We have the same sound from our newly built house. Of course the builder sent a roofer to look for the noise but said everything was fine. We have issues with our gutters leaking and getting them replaced by a different company today... hopefully this helps with the issue as most of our bedrooms share that wall. Thank you for the video!
J. Young, That is really terrible espcially with a new home. I hope you fix it. Good luck. Thank you for watching my video!
Did it help? 🙈 We have the same problem- new build.
@@Kaarolinaak I haven't tried yet. I still have noise in the wind...
recently bought a new house and the gutters were making the exact noise. i put a few more screws in the back of the gutter to give it more rigidity. if you loosely hold a piece of paper to your lips and forcefully blow air at it you can create the same effect that the wind is having on the gutter. just be sure to to check that you have fascia board behind your gutters so you don't shoot "air balls" into your gutter and if you have exposed truss tails to be sure you're screwing into them. it's also best to use screws with neoprene washers to avoid any leaking. hope this helps someone out. i also have 4 years gutter installer exp.
Zachary, Thank you for the tip!!
Thanks
Really helpful, haven’t tried it yet but I will.
I have the same problem here in Windy Wellington. Before I figured that the gutters were also to blame there was a loose eave that I got fixed.
recently I notice i got the same noise, my theory is that (after climbing up), the back of gutter is un-bended design/support which laid against fascia board. However, older home like mine, might not have straight fascia board which create void spot/bend out behind the gutter back wall, and cause wind vortex at high wind at special angle, which cause the noise. I did ask my gutter company come to check it out, but the person (Power Home remodeling) refused to put in more gutter supporting screws as he said word by word "I can put in more screw for you, but you will void your warranty and you can't call us back anymore", which make me feel like he refused to do work, nor trying to resolve the issues and using that as excuse to blackmail me, not to said he also blame all other house components making the noise (alumn siding, window, roofing, etc...)
Well, If it voids the warranty on the gutter. I would think if you had to get a new roof, you would get new gutters. I would tell him to come on out and secure the gutter. But that is me!
Just moved into an old house into the 3rd floor attic apartment and was FREAKING OUT I thought somebody was using an electric saw to break in!
LOL, not fun! I have not tried to fix mine yet. Read some of the comments below.
I am facing the same issue they put some silicon and wedges in gutter but no luck still same issue if anyone find the solution please let us know
Same issue with my one waiting for Builder to fix it brand new house @ansa homes Sydney please fix it asap
I thought my house was haunted. Thanks for sharing this video. I can get it checked out now 😅
LOL, Now you can rest in peace.
I have found why this is happening on my roof. If pulled the gutter out slightly when the noise started, it immediately stopped. So, I got a small tree branch, very small, and wedged it between the gutter and house an it stopped the noise.
I pulled the gutter outwards from underneath the gutter. I just cupped my hand on the gutter and gently pulled outwards.
After the limb was wedged in I could clearly see a small piece of plastic protruding under the shingle. I watched it flapping and it made no noise because there was nothing there. This is looking up from beneath the gutter not looking down from the top.
Now, I've got to figure out a way to slightly move the gutter away from the house over the length of the entire gutter.
Interesting, I will have to look into that... How about Door shims the tapered wood shims to level a door... You might try putting those shims between the gutter and the house
Sounds like you've got a giant monster coming down your street!
:) Yes it does....
Hey for us it was the felt paper that sits under the shingles. It extends into the gutter a bit and flap intermittently between wind gusts. Noticed it on our newly built home and was driving us nuts. Exact same sound
Wow! That's amazing! I wished it was that simple for us.
@@RichRodgersOnline Have you checked? could also be your drip edge vibrating against the gutter. It was hard to diagnose, had to get up there on a ladder in the wind and place hand into the gutter under the overhanging shingle to notice the small bit of felt paper flapping/vibrating rapidly when he wind hit it just right. When it vibrates against the tin gutter the sound resonates
Sean H was the overhanging shingle or paper making the noise? I have a similar annoying noise coming from the front of the house and the sound resonates under the front porch roof.
@@ala9047 The felt roofing paper that sits under the shingles. There was some excess that hung under the shingle and into the gutter and when the wind hit at the right speed and angle it would flap the paper against the gutter really fast intermittently. Some call it "felt slap"
Sean H ok, thank you. Thats what I’m having a problem with. When the wind hits it from the right angle i hear the fast vibrating or humming noise. I’ll check it out tomorrow and post results.from what I can see the gutters have been installed fairly high up right under the shingles. It gives me something to inspect now
Mine are secure but still hummmmmmmmmmmm in the wind. seamless gutters
They need to be secured better to the home
hi Rich, greeting from Dallas. I just found out the same issue I have with my gutter and unfortunately the gutter is right outside of my master bedroom and it can be very loud when the wind is strong (like what we are having now). I found out that in my case, the noise comes from where the spout and the gutter connects. I will call some guy to see if they have fixed similar issue and come back if I ever get it fixed.
Ours is also by our master bedroom. I haven't fixed it yet!
@@RichRodgersOnline we will see if we can replace the elbow with a plastic one thats likely less noisy but i will let you know what we come up with at the end
@@RichRodgersOnline updated: sorry it took so long until now because I was waiting for strong winds to test it out. We got some very strong wind starting few days ago and the noise does not come back! what I did was I replaced the metal elbow at the 'T' location where the down spout connects to the gutter. I hope this helps!
@@justarandomfishguy8868 Mine is still making noise, glad you got a fix for yours! We are in OKC and our wind was Gusting 50 mph today.
@@justarandomfishguy8868 Ours makes noise across in a couple of places... Not close to the downspot.
After constantly hounding the gutter company they came back and put several more supports on the downspout, Problem solved.
hi Opal, good to hear that the problem is solved for you. What do you mean by more supports on the downspout? brackets/clips? Thank you!
Did you ever find out why? I have the same problem
Look at the statement above.
I have the exact same problem and it drives me CRAZY. I've wedged some rubber between the gutter and the side of the house but I can only reach the low half of the guttering. The other half still vibrates 😨😨
Thanks for watching my video! It drives me crazy as well. I think I will try something, but I never do anything...
Good video . Do you know what kind of support did they put on your gutter? Thx
Hi Tommy, thanks for watching from what I remember. The were 3/16" to 1/4" round tube...
Hi Rich, I think I am having the same issue as you. How it is solved?
I have the same annoying noise in high winds, when I hear it in the house I know its loud. Most of the time you can only hear it when outside and the sound resonates under the roof of the front porch. I spent hours trying to locate the problem which I thought i did but today I heard it again in slightly farther away from the spot I worked on. Any solutions for you yet?
I haven't got any solutions, you may want to read some comments below. Thank you for watching!
Rich Rodgers ok, thank you. Someone commented about the shingles or paper rattling against the gutters. I’ll inspect it next and see if that might be the issue. I know the gutters are very close to the shingles.... Thanks again
@@ala9047 sorry I couldn't be any help, my gutters were making noise last night
Rich Rodgers thanks for posting this video. It gives me something to look at next at least and see maybe I’ll figure it out this time. It is annoying and I’m sure my neighbors are annoyed by it as well lol. I’ll keep looking and if I find the problem I’ll post it here.... thanks again
Rich Rodgers i finally have found the source of vibrating noise. Its not the gutters but the metal flashing that is connected to the wall above the the gutters at the top of that section of the roof.
I got the same exact noise! You figured out what it is??
No, I was thinking about cutting some 1/2" PVC and putting them in hoping it would cut down on the vibrations.
We have same problem, how did you fix it?
The gutter people were suppose to come back and put some support on the guttering... I don't think he came over. But we haven't had that much wind in 4 months.
Same issue here. No luck. Gutter guy claimed he fixed but no luck
I have same issue, pls let me know how to fix, thank you.
I didn't know what to do to fix it. I'm sorry
Nah someone just playing the cello.
sounds very annoying, almost like an neighbor's grudge hit-back! its creepy and very intimidating :) or like an alien saying something coded!!!
Daily, It's a nightmare! The wind was blowing in Oklahoma City 2 days last week 40 and 50 mph. :)
Cut some gutter into 1 inch stripes and wedge these into the gutter upside down to stop the gutter guard vibrating along its length. You may need to place these about 1 meter intervals.
How did you fix it?
Sara thank you for watching my video. No, it still makes the noise.
@@RichRodgersOnline I just built a new house, same thing started happening. They put in more screws and brackets, but the noise seems to have come back. Not as deep as a resonator type noise now, but similar to yours. I think I'm going to try to put gutter guards in to see if that can help break up the airflow. It reminds me of a musical instrument, the air must be hitting the gutter as just the right angle.
@@SaraK_69 well it couldn't hurt it may give it enough support
