Thanks for the video. It took me approximately 45 minutes including gathering materials and driving around the block at the end (after washing my hands/arms). I didn't feel the fluid came out at a higher rate than oil does so just prep for an oil change in that respect. I will do the 2nd flush the next time I do an oil change, and the third the time after that!
Did this job today on the same car and measured the amount of ATF drained which was 4 quarts. I would recommend to measure the amount of ATF drained and replace with the same amount. Great video
Thanks for making this. Just did my 2011 MDX yesterday, new to me but with 55,000 miles. Car seemed to be shifting strange and the fluid looked a bit dark so I thought I'd change it. Boy, I'm glad I did, it was really dirty, no doubt original from the factory. Even after 1 drain/fill cycle I have noticed a significant improvement in the transmission -- much smoother. I can't wait to do the next two drain/fills, which I'll do later this week.
I'll tell ya. Just an enjoyable and precise video to watch sir. Really enjoyed that! You got right to each point and was clear and concise. Awesome instructional with great camera angles. Thanks for sharing.
Great vid.....I just completed my 2006 Acura RL which is the same as yours. My only fear was breaking off the fill bolt....but after seeing you lean into it I wish I had done the same. I ended up just filling through the dipstick tube.
Great video! Followed the same exact procedure for my 2012 MDX. The only problem I had was breaking loose the bolt for the fill port. I managed to break a 12" extension...Luckily I had another one.
Thanks for the video. Very informative and comprehensive tool list. I do my trans service a bit different. 1. I remove the strainer and replace it. Part # 25430-PLR-003 located under battery tray. 2. Connect clear hose to the left side hose going into strainer and feed it into a catch pan. 3. Drain trans and measure what came out, put exact amount back in. 4. Start car and let the trans pump out 2 quarts........put two quarts back in. 5. Repeat step 4 until the fluid coming out is clear and red new fluid. This way you are not doing a 3 x 3 and mixing old fluid and new.
For Honda, actually you can fill the trans fluid at the dip stick and no need to crack loose the fill hole. I have done this multiple times filling at the dip stick.
Thanks for the videos Kris, very helpful, as there are none on these cars on UA-cam. I also have a 2010 SH-AWD with manual trans. Mine just reached 90k and I was wondering if you will be making a video on spark plug replacement. My wife has a 03 Odyssey, and I replaced her plugs, coils, and PCV valve with no problem. I know the procedure is probably similar, but seeing it done on a car like mine is always helpful. Your videos are very detailed, so I'm confident that with your help, I'll be able to tackle this. I've already done my PCV, rear diff, transfer case, and manual trans fluid. My brakes will also need to be replaced soon. Thanks
Good video, but if you are doing 3x, you can just tighten with the original washers and drive around for a few mins which should cycle the fluid well enough and come back drain/fill repeat. That way you don’t need to do this for 3 days and save washers too
I have a fluid evacuator that I use to remove most fluids on vehicles. I wonder If I can evacuate the fluid out by the fill plug. Most likely there is something in the way internally.
I have a 2010 acura RL sh-awd 3.7L, I just hit 98k miles on it idk if the previous owner did any fluid changes I got it when it had 75k miles on it. I know the recommend a transmission oil change. Does this effect the cars transmission any? That was a great video to 5☆
To answer this, there’s nothing wrong with filling it through the dipstick tube, but it’s very time consuming and hard to find a funnel to fit there.. but if you do, go for it..
No. You have 3 bolts in the MT. Fill plug, drain plug, and fluid level check bolt. After draining, fill the transmission until oil comes out the check hole
You said you’re going to do this 2 more times what do you mean ? In a few weeks or days or another 50k miles ? I ask because mine is more on the dirty side and I’m already buying 8 qts and want to make sure I have enough before I do this
I know this video is old but hopefully you reply. Would you recommend changing the crush washer anytime you remove either the filler bolt or the bolt on the drain pan (still referring to the transmission fluid)
Great video, thank you Kris! Could you elaborate on how to check the fluid level? Like when is cold or hot, and level at upper/lower holes around "HOT".
This might be a bit late, but you check it warm. Start the car and run it for 60 to 90 seconds, and make sure the fan turns on. Turn the car off and wipe the stick then re-insert. It should sit in the middle ish of the 2 dots on the stick
@KrisKasprzak your answes to peoples questions make absolutely no sense. The question was not do you you need to change the filter a second time. You didn't even change it once.
I got my fluid at the Honda/Acura dealer. Where i live they are in the same location. Just specify its for an Acura and make sure you get the correct type.
Hello, I performed this procedure and got close to 4 quarts from the initial drain. Is this normal, or could the transmission have been a little overfilled from the start? Thank you.
Can you just add the new fluid into the dipstick holder? Seems like that would be much simpler than fooling with that filler plug and extensions? Is there a reason you did not?
Youve steered people in the wrong direction multiple times. Your rear diff fluid change video you answer that there is no front diff and posted the same info on Acurazine. Now in this video you say there is one. Stop giving false information
Although this transmission has a lifetime filter inside the trans it also has a external strainer located under the battery tray. Part # 25430-PLR-003. Location is here. img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Roland2121/Auto-Transmision-Filter_zps4feb00cf.jpg
Best detailed video I have ever seen on UA-cam 3 thumbs up

why would you replace with the same amount ? you have a dipstick to measure the right level

At a shop or how's the car being raised?

Just make sure ur socket is on the head of the bolt good if not then it could break
Great video! Followed the same exact procedure for my 2012 MDX. The only problem I had was breaking loose the bolt for the fill port. I managed to break a 12" extension...Luckily I had another one.
Why do they put the fill plug on like that? Yeah breaking a 12 inch extension on a ratchet would have to have had some pressure to do that
Very helpful and straight to the point. Appreciated
Glad I could help.
Great video! Thank you this was exactly what I needed very informative. I will be feeling like a pro when I change my transmission fluid today.
Glad I could help

Awesome video thank you for making this! I definitely need to figure out where that fill bolt first
Thanks for the quality content and straight to the point.
You're very welcome.
Where did you lift the rear of the car that high. The Google suggests to read tow hitch that protrudes from by the gas tank
For Honda, actually you can fill the trans fluid at the dip stick and no need to crack loose the fill hole. I have done this multiple times filling at the dip stick.
Awesome sauce! Do you have more videos on this car?
If you add 3 qts, what about the other 5 qts still in your torque converter?
Thanks for the videos Kris, very helpful, as there are none on these cars on UA-cam. I also have a 2010 SH-AWD with manual trans. I'll try to make a video this summer on spark plugs. To cold outside now haha. I also have the 6sp MT
How big is the bolt on the transmission?
Good video, but if you are doing 3x, you can just tighten with the original washers and drive around for a few mins which should cycle the fluid well enough and come back drain/fill repeat. That way you don’t need to do this for 3 days and save washers too
you could probably reuse the washers in the interim changes.
Kris Kasprzak that’s what he said!
So how many botttles of transmission fluid do I need if I have to possibly do it more than 1 time? -- 9 bottles??
How often should you change the transmission filter in an sh-awd? And how many filters are there? Thank You
I have a fluid evacuator that I use to remove most fluids on vehicles. I wonder If I can evacuate the fluid out by the fill plug. Most likely there is something in the way internally.

What if you were to add the ATF thru the dipstick tube instead of the fill plug. Great Video thanks
I'm not sure if that will work. Can you not get the fill plug out?
Got the plug out but just wondering because I topped it off thru the dip stick tube
Kris Kasprzak 2010 Acura have a transmission filter ?
To answer this, there’s nothing wrong with filling it through the dipstick tube, but it’s very time consuming and hard to find a funnel to fit there.. but if you do, go for it..
Old turkey baster tube fits into dipstick tube. Then just put funnel into top of baster.
I accidentally added 4 quarts instead of the recommended 3. Do you know if this will cause any issues?
Can you drain some? I'm not sure if it will hurt, but why take a chance...
i got the same car. just wondered how often should i change the Transmission Fluid. thanks
!
Bo whenever the maintenance minder says to
Great video thank you for being so clear with the information. Feel free to make a video about changing the breaks aswell thanks again

@@KrisKasprzak thank you
Great video, love the direct information
Glad I could help.
Is this the same for 3.7 liter? I have the RL
This is a 3.7L but for a TL. I'm not sure if the RL is the same
Yes they’re the same , only the intake manifold and throttle body in 3.7 TL are bigger
Is this the same procedure for the 6speed manual 3.7?
No. You have 3 bolts in the MT. Fill plug, drain plug, and fluid level check bolt. After draining, fill the transmission until oil comes out the check hole
You said you’re going to do this 2 more times what do you mean ? In a few weeks or days or another 50k miles ? I ask because mine is more on the dirty side and I’m already buying 8 qts and want to make sure I have enough before I do this
I drove a few hundred miles between each
I know this video is old but hopefully you reply. Would you recommend changing the crush washer anytime you remove either the filler bolt or the bolt on the drain pan (still referring to the transmission fluid)
I definitely would. The maintenance manual says you should. And it’s a very cheap part to replace.
@@KrisKasprzak thank you just got a set and the filler plug bolt was the bolt already removed to the ( left )or the bolt to the right ?
What's the mileage interval ? Anyone knows ? 2012 mdx . Thanks 👌
Great video, thank you Kris!

Is there a filter for the transmission?
Yes for 09-14 TL’s it’s under the battery Pain to get to u have to remove the battery & battery Tray
At the shop now getting this done - 200 bucks - feel bad I didn't check to try to do on my own - why do they charge so much at the shop?
no clue...
Herakles i just got my 05 RL done for 90 at an acura dealership🤕
That’s pretty hefty, the Acura dealership is about $100 bucks. It’s not difficult to do yourself, takes 15-20 minutes if that.
No filter?
is the car will show some code on to let you know time to change Transmission Fluid ?
Yes, codes are in your manual
I have a question.. so after you're done doing that transmission flush twice do you need to change the filter transmission filter?
The maintenance guide did not indicate to change the filter a second time
If you have allwheel drive then yes you have to change the filter as regular transmission oil maintenance
@KrisKasprzak your answes to peoples questions make absolutely no sense. The question was not do you you need to change the filter a second time. You didn't even change it once.
Um sorry but you can add your trans fluid thru the dip stick opening which I just did.
Um, ok...
Hi, did you need to remove anything to reach the fill bolt?
i didn't have to.
Awesome diy video came in really handy thank you...
Can we see a radiator flush next pls
I'll do one this summer. Not easy to do it out in the cold
Your Rad flush is right underneath ur radiator just flush close and fill with new coolant
Super ! Good job
Glad I could help.
Filter?
Hi how are you? Can I fill the fluid through the dipstick hole? Thanks
good question. I'm really not sure.
No that's a dipstick hole your fill hole is there for a reason
Yes you can. This guy is all over the place
What did you mean your gonna do it another two times ? I didn't understand ? Flush?
First one flushes (or replaces) *most* of the old fluid, second flushes more out, third get's almost all of it.
@jsv6 I’m not sure what you’re asking. What question do you have that’s not covered in the video?
@jsv6 Just a few days.
How many quarts of trans fluid
see vid at 4:20...3 qts
Nice video, im doing my soon. So trans oil you got from honda dealer not acura, yea?
I got my fluid at the Honda/Acura dealer. Where i live they are in the same location. Just specify its for an Acura and make sure you get the correct type.
Hello, I performed this procedure and got close to 4 quarts from the initial drain. Is this normal, or could the transmission have been a little overfilled from the start?
Thank you.
It takes 3 1/2 I believe but u have to check the dipstick if your over just flush some out
How reliable is this transmission?
Have you experienced any problems with your MDX transmission? I'm thinking about purchasing a used MDX
I don't have and MXD, i have a TL, after 65K miles, i'm not seeing any problems. Maybe check an independent MDX forum?
Kris Kasprzak thank you!
What about the filter?
Can you just add the new fluid into the dipstick holder? Seems like that would be much simpler than fooling with that filler plug and extensions? Is there a reason you did not?
maybe but the tube is so small, it will take a long time
No it wouldn't Dealerships fill it from the dipstick 😅
Awesome vid - considering I don't have a torque wrench I guess that's the convenience I paid for today otherwise that looked easy as pie
You're very welcome.
Herakles you can buy a torque wrench for $30
Youve steered people in the wrong direction multiple times. Your rear diff fluid change video you answer that there is no front diff and posted the same info on Acurazine. Now in this video you say there is one. Stop giving false information
Thank you for sharing!
Does this car have a tranny filter?
Thanks man
You're welcome!
I thought it’s 3 1/2 quarts
Your drain plug had way to much gunk on it.
I wanna buy cars from you bro
Mike Angels oo99o
thx brother! 1 dislike? wtf who ??? lol why?
leebog thanks man I'm guessing the thumbs down is from a mechanic, haters are going to hate
"Up a creek", with no paddles..
What about the filter?
Viktor Morgan there isn't a filter for the transmission
It's impossible
Although this transmission has a lifetime filter inside the trans it also has a external strainer located under the battery tray. Part # 25430-PLR-003. Location is here. img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Roland2121/Auto-Transmision-Filter_zps4feb00cf.jpg
The atf filter is external for the 2012 -2014 Acura TL Sh-Awd 6sp auto only.
