Love it :D
Great instructions Bogdan. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.😊
Hoping to finally do this tomorrow before going on a long trip. Thank you for such a clear, concise video!
Good luck, Marty! This is straightforward, should be no problem.
i'm addicted to watching Acura Addicted :) thanks for all the videos bro
:)
I love your videos my question not related to this video but I would like you to help me figure out from where you think the engine leakage is knowing I replaced the rear main seal both side transmission and engine also change the oil pain.
Dealers said it’s leaking from axle seals left and right.
Just did this, thanks for the help!
You are welcome!
Nice video.. only thing I didn't do is removing the splash guard. The transfer case is clearly visible on the outside.
**Just an additional tip** do not jack up the car too much because when filling the oil again you will add more than you should, try to keep the car as close to level as possible when filling. Also, I was able to do this without removing the splash guard, it’s better to not risk breaking the plastic clips if you don’t have to. Good video
Thanks! Yes, you don't need the ramps at all. The only reason I did this was because it's easier to film. I have redone it several times since then without jacking the car up.
@@AcuraAddicted I didn’t know your channel existed before I bought my 2nd gen MDX. I am lucky you have these videos! Keep up the great work!
75W90 gear oil is commonly available from parts stores. I assume since the comments mention 75W85 and 80W90, that 75W90 should work. It is even available in gallon jugs and 5 gallon pails.
Stay gold.
Hi Bogdan, your videos really help! I also have 2008 MDX, have you ever encounter vibrations when running 100kmh? I’ve taken it to my mechanic and Nobody seems to know when the vibration is coming from. Hope you can help. And continue making videos. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for your feedback! Vibration at high speeds are usually caused by tire(s) out of balance. In fact, I had that issue when no third party shops were able to figure it out as they claimed my wheels were balanced. It was only when I came to Acura and they properly balanced the tires the vibration was gone.
Another reason could be the propeller shaft (U-joints) or even your half shaft drive shafts. A reputable shop should be able to diagnose it. If everything fails, you can always go to Acura. Hopefully they can figure it out.
Hello Bagdan, I got hypoid Gear Oil from Acura dealership and they gave me SAE 75W-85. Would it work for transfer case?
Can you tell me what oils I should use for differential and transfer case for a 2007 Acura DMX Ty Mr. AD !!
All the fluids for all 2007-2013 MDXs are the same. I have a video on transfer case, transmission and rear differential fluid change on my channel. I also have a separate video on all fluids.
Thank you for sharing. I’m about ready to do this but I only find the Honda 08200-9014 Hypoid Gear Oil Hgo-1 Gl-5 75W-85. Do you have an item number or link for the Honda Hypoid Gear Oil 80w90 ?
Thanks! I don't have a link, but you can buy it directly from Honda or Acura.
Thanks again Bogdan., This was a very helpful video. Wow, that transfer case fluid smells bad, haha and it is very, very thick like cough syrup ;D Thanks again!!!
Thanks for your feedback! Haha, yes, the transfer case gear oil smells really bad :)
Hi! Can I use HGO-1 GL-5 75W-85 on a 2010 MDX? Part # 08200-9014A.
this 75w-85 is the correct fluid you are referring too. this is what we use at acura.
Heres an unrelated question, i did ghe trans service this weekend, i noticed by the filler plug, there was this box.. it has 1 hose going into it and it LOOKS like theres supposed to be 1 comin outta it.. wtf is it for and should i worry? Im already worried since whoever did the service prior to my ownership used red loctite on the drain plug because they couldnt get it tight enough to not weep. The box is to the right of the fil bolt, on the other side of some lines. I foubd it weird theyd put something there like that. And i feel like it needs a hose somewhere but i cant find any signs. 😬
May be if you made a photo. Otherwise I have no idea.
Acura addicted, what is the part number for the transfer case? I call dealer around where i live, they dont sell the oil. I want to see if i can order online somewhere.
Thank you
Honda CA66928 80W90 Gearl Oil.
@@AcuraAddicted thank you
Where did you purchase the Honda oil from? I checked a couple Acura dealers and they didn’t carry 80w90 oil (Toronto area).
Downtown Acura. They always have it in stock. Let me know if you are having trouble.
Acura Addicted
Thank you for the info. I will check with DT Acura.
80/90 oil is just gear oil. You can go to any auto parts store and get a quality oil for a decent price.
Skyway Bridge?
Acura addicted>>>where can we get that oil pump as i have a hard time to fill in the oil.. thanks
The best pump in this case would be the one you can fit over the bottle. Here it is (same I used for the Rear Diff):
Hand automotive fluid pump:
US: amzn.to/2sxc9nK
Canada: amzn.to/2ChtVeg
I hear some vehicles have one of the front CV axles connected to the transfer case, is this true with these Acura MDX's? I replaced my 2012 MDX CV Axles and some of the fluid was lost out of the driver side, it appears that the fluid lost was just ATF fluid, but because the transfer case is right next to it, I wanted to be 100% certain. Transfer case fluid is much thicker, so I am hoping it was just the ATF. I just decided to replace all the ATF. Thanks Bogdan
No worries: transfer case in MDX only exists to drive the propeller shaft to transfer the momentum to the rear diff. You won’t lose any transfer case fluid when replacing axles.
Can I do with the engine cold no need to warmer up?
Yes, you can. Just as the oil change. But it works faster if you warm it up.
How many miles should I do this the first time mine only has 86
With Hondas and Acuras it’s not about miles, it’s about engine work hours. Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance minder which provides various codes to advice on which maintenance is required. As I said in the video, this is to be done when code 3 pops up (so along with the ATF). That being said, 86K miles is way overdue for this. From my experience, it pops up each time between extra 25K to 35K miles.
Is it the same on a 2013 mdx?
Yes
how often should this be changed
Whenever prompted by the maintenance minder.
Doesn't the car have to be level to get the right amount of fluid in? I noticed you were on a ramp. Thanks
That is preferable. However, it's not much of an angle. In fact, it is allowed by the manufacturer to raise the front of the vehicle. Same goes for the ATF change.
Your full of shit ,it’s allowed by manufacturer......Please come up with a better excuse .
It’s “you’re”, bud, learn to spell. And then consult the manufacturer’s service manual, you will find it there, if you are able to read: i.postimg.cc/jdN9fvY7/9-D1741-D7-A6-FA-4888-93-AC-84-DD8-FA33699.jpg and i.postimg.cc/6pXPfRB1/CCA98633-7-BF8-44-FD-8800-08121295-BB69.jpg
@@billmoore5438 LOL feeling pretty foolish now huh?
Van Nghiem You fucking idiot ,camels don’t have ATF.... go back to India or where ever shit hole country you came from
Hay my Honda dealer sold me 75W85 so I called an Acura dealer and they said it takes 70W80. How did you get to 80W90. One of them is obviously lying to me. HELP! :)
Haha :) May be they ran out of 80W90 or they changed the specs. But that's what I got.
@@AcuraAddicted I just got off the phone with a coupe of Acura dealerships in Toronto and they told me 80w90 got replaced by 75w85 6 years ago. And that in Canada they still stock both and they think ai should use 80w90 in my 2008 cuz thats what it came with. But in USA that dont stock 80w90 anymore even and the only one you can get is 75w85 so the aren't that different. Yes I got to the bottom of it! And you are right they probably ran out:)
Perfect, thanks for your diligence and following up!
@@FutureTechNation so which one did you end up using and how was the outcome?
@@rickybaez2970Using 80W90 ever since!
With oil ATF, and transfer case, I always park the car on an incline to get maximum drainage.
Nonsense. The ATF draining hole is located on the side of the transmission. The transfer case draining hole is directly facing down. Parking on incline won't give you any advantage in draining either of those.
@@AcuraAddicted As you can see at 4:03, all the drains are located on the left side of the vehicle. Leaning the car to the left, by 10 degrees or so will drain them more effectively. The ATF drain is also well to the rear of the transmission, and can benefit from a lean to the rear, but this is normal if using ramps.
On your next oil change, let the car drain until it stops. Then raise the right side of the car by 6-12 inches and you'll get another ounce or two.
Once again, the transfer case drain directly faces the ground at 90 degrees. As for the ATF drain, yes, it is located on the side of the transmission, as I said. What you are suggesting is cumbersome and completely unnecessary with no measurable benefit for the fluid change.
@@AcuraAddicted More fluid comes out. That seems beneficial to me. It also comes out faster. Yes the transfer plug faces straight down, but oil is thick and you can stick your finger in there and feel lots of fluid still inside after it's drained.
In your own video you squirt clean fluid into the transfer case and let it drain. (for exactly the same reason) What is the measurable benefit?
The amount of extra drained fluid is not worth the extra effort and hassle. Just do what the manufacturer prescribed and you’ll be fine.
Hello Bagdan, I got hypoid Gear Oil from Acura dealership and they gave me SAE 75W-85. Would it work for transfer case?
It’s less viscosity, but if that’s what Acura sold you for this car, I guess it should be ok.
this 75w85 is the correct fluid,
