I will post pictures with a short description of the context and information on the gradual modification of the car over the years. That gt3 rs out front may be considered quicker but I would rather the e46 to drive the ring in any day.... But I would still have the Porsche as a daily if it was going!!!

And no matter the differences between the two cars i loved the m3 drivers little chuckle as he overtook the gt3 on the inside bank!!! All the driver aids don't mean anything when compared to the right driver in a good car.
It annoyed me when i seen one post of some dude that put a bunch of mods on a e46 and a half cage, then had a caption (paraphrasing) "i wanna go faster i might need something else ", like dude just drive the damn car harder then.
@@Garf2O well a car has its limits, you will never compete in a 300+ hp car vs a 800hp unless you have a super light car Now can a good pilot woth 300 hp smoke someone in a 800hp machine? Yes, for sure, but on equal conditions there is no comparison
That was a real treat to watch. You my friend as truly skilled. I know there was traffic, but the sheer fact that you were able to keep pace with that gt3 is a true feat in itself. Nice work!
I have a 2004 E46 ///M3 manual 3 pedal car, same trim as yours, but carbon black. Have had it around Laguna Seca Raceway, local track and had a blast, like you. This was a GREAT video and I felt like I was there. All the passing and ohhh... the sound of that S54 engine is so sweet! On my bucket list is to run my M3 at Nürburgring just as you did, but you did it for me thru this video. Dude... I felt like it was me driving because of the sound and hauling ass passing cars like they were standing still, my experiences too! Just a whole lot of fun and the smiles just get so wide.. I did get to visit BMW Welt and museum this past June 2022 while in Munich. Thanks for sharing this great video! :)

You see here, its 75% driving skill, that why you see “slower cars” overtake much faster cars because of the drive, ive also seen renault sport clio’s do 7:59 absolute nuts.
Pretty clean lap, despite all the traffic - nicely done. I used to HATE all the BMW's out on the Nordschleife - because they were so damn good, lol! First lap I ever had here was in my buddies M3 - it was a blast & got me hooked. I don't think there is a car out there, for the money, as good on this track as a BMW....they're just born for it. Great video - keep it up & be safe!
I drove the Z4M Roadster with this engine. Most exciting car I've driven so far. My current FK8 is faster, more stable and more precise but the way that engine vibrated, revved, responded to the throttle input was beyond anything.

Genuinely surprised. The gearing seemed perfectly suited to the Ring and it was faster and more planted than I thought it would be. I couldn't help but sweat a bit when he was climbing over the wheel at certain points though!
I have a e46 m3 and its scary how fast this guy goes at some points, atleast in my USDM one (idk if the german cars got different gearing or final drive) third tops out at 110mph roughly, and in some points this dude is in fucking fifth gear and WOT
Cracking driving. One thought. Watch the movement in your gearstick - suspect there are a few bushes and engine mounts that could be given some attention.
Thank you! And yes, you are right, there is some movement there. The car had about 88'000 Km at the time and was on its original bushes all round. Good observation!
@@rlf1989 Well as always the answer is "it depends". Based on your use case it could make sense to put in a 4.1. For me, who wanted to have some comfort also on longer journeys, a 4.1 was off the table. If I had decided to rebuilt my diff, I probably would have considered a 3.91. Furthermore, on smg putting in a 4.1 means you have to adapt the software (fyi). If you are planning on still taking the car on longer road trips I wouldn't go past 3.91. If it's only used on back roads and you are giving it the beans the whole time then maybe. Hope this helps, and thanks for stopping by! Cheers
@@DenfMotorsports Thanks for the great advice. I have a normal manual and it's mostly used for weekend blasts but depending on the weather i'll take it work. I mainly ride a motorcycle. I'm starting to think the 3.9 is the better option since my commute is quite long (25 miles on the motorway). Anyway thanks again :)

The engine is stock, but I do have an eventuri intake which I like to believe helps at higher speeds..and even if that should not be the case, at least it sounds good ahah The best mod has probably been the suspension (Nitron R1), even if the dampers are overdue for a rebuild at this point. I also run a ST40 BBK in the front with Endless ME22 pads, since the stock brakes are just not good enough for track use. Tyres are Cup 2 in 245/35/19 and 265/30/19 on Apex arc 8 wheel. The guy in the GT3 RS is a friend of mine and he was not really pushing, I think we can all agree that a GT3 RS eats an old M3 for breakfast on the track, but in this case given the circumstances I sort of managed to stay behind him until he let me pass.

The primary goal was to improve stability, since the OEM seats didn't do that great of a job at keeping me in place on the track. The OEM seats weigh ~30 Kg each, the Buckets weigh ~18Kg with consoles. Otherwise the wheels are also a couple of Kg lighter overall. But that's about it.
That is understandable, however, keep in mind that the rod bearings tend to last at least 100k Km. Changing them costs from 1200 Euros to about 1500 Euros depending on your location. So while it is something that should be kept in mind, it should't be the deal breaker.

Yes, a manual might be slower, but it is much more engaging. The challenge to get the shits right (especially the downshifts) adds to the experience.

Yes, I was running the stock ratio.
Personally, if I had to choose, I would go for a 3.91 ratio, as 4.1 would be too much for me.

It is the OEM Professional Navigation system. I think there are some android solutions which come quite close to a "stockish" look and work well.
