I still believe Cartman was all for helping Kenny. But once Kenny was dead and it was too late, he just jumped onto the next thing and wouldn't admit how sincere he was.
Kyle is the only one of the group that was unquestioningly caring to Kenny. Stan was all in his own head and focusing on how he feels and even at the end was happy because he thought Eric made him not look so bad by comparison.

He could be all for selling the fetuses.
And don't forget that Kenny's death automatically makes Cartman the poorest kid at school (see episode The Poor Kid for more details). So the reason for trying to save Kenny can be still pretty egotistic (like how in Imaginationland and Smug Alert he saved Kyle for similar egotistic reasons).

Fun fact: the reason for this episode was the creators wanted to change up the status quo by killing off one of the main characters. The original plan was to kill off kyle as they felt he was too similar to stan. They ultimately figured backlash would probably be too large, so they figured fewer people would care if they killed off the character whose main trait is he dies. Ultimately, they went back on their decisions at the end of the season, but Kenny did spend an entire season dead.

I love how no one seems to be able to tell that THAT'S the joke.
They played it straight because he's died something like 100 times before, and thus this shouldn't have any emotional weight to it at all, but through the use of very-special-episode tropes and manipulatively emotional piano music, they take something that's been a joke about a hundred times and somehow it's different this time. They weren't trying to evoke real feelings here, they were trying to show how emotionally manipulative entertainment media can be, and everyone falls for it.

Finally I was waiting for this one, its the episode both Trey and Matt just decided to kill off Kenny "for real" and its a change of pace from the typical episodes.
And like the comment say, next up would be "Ladder to Heaven" def the follow up episode to this.

Kenny has a curse. Everytime he dies, he reborns in his mother's uterus just a couple of minutes after death and grows up until his age in few hours. But only if the death is violent. If he dies for a disease or a natural death he will not resurrect. When he dies and resurrects nobody rememberd it and this curse is because his parents performed a ritual, scarificing him to Cthulu with a pentagram when he was a newborn (in exchange for drugs)

Kenny remembers all his deaths and this is a huge thing in his psyche for his character development leading him to addictions and after to a become a hero when he finds a purpose for living.

It would be if Stanley’s Cup didn’t end in utter misery and despair, all hope extinguished as a dying boy’s dream sputters and coughs its last breath, choking on blood and broken promises.
Which honestly annoys me because the _“Styan Myarsh is a peewee hockey coach...” SKRRT “But he’s about to find out...”_ stuff is SO funny, but the story lands on a complete bummer note; such a colossal and unforgiving bummer that I just never want to watch it.

This episode is where they actually killed Kenny for “good”. He stayed gone for almost an entire season during which time the boys tried out new kids as the 4th friend. Eventually he just comes back as if nothing ever happened though.

First off I find it funny that this is probably the first time Dash questioned why Cartman was on the highway on a Tricycle when the boys have been to a Water Park on their own, a Zip Line tour on their own, and Cartman went with several kids to Somalia.
Second, One of the interesting things about this episode is that by the name of the Episode Kenny Dies. You sort of chuckle because I mean Kenny dies in pretty much every episode, but it’s probably one of the saddest episodes South Park has done.

Kenny was the glue that kept their friend group together. episodes after his real death show how important he was, they tried with Butters and Twek, but it wasn't working. Kenny wasn't replaceable. Which is why they brought him back a year later.

Very nice spot with Cartman's list of sins/bad deeds for convincing a woman to have an abortion to build his own shakey's.
As I'm sure a lot of people are saying, "Ladder to Heaven" is a super-obvious follow-up to this episode. For a good meta-episode concerning Chef, "The Return of Chef" is also hilarious.

Kenny stayed dead for like a whole year after this episode aired, then finally showed up again without explanation at the end of Red Sleigh Down. After that he stopped dying in every single episode and coming back unexplained in the next episode... I guess Matt & Trey figured the joke had run its course at that point. He's died a few times since then but the very large majority of his 125+ on screen deaths happened before this episode.

For longest time this was one of my favorite episode. I am sure its parody of some movie haven't seen but it feels like a serious dramatic film. Rec watching Towlie S5 E8 next. It goes in exact opposite direction of seriousness and I think South Park makes fun of its self making meta jokes.
