    Hi Richard, top tip, i know youve screwed the batten across the bottom to maintain the width but that wont hold the legs square, where as if you fix the hinge side of your lining first, and then cut a piece of 1x4 for example the internal width of your lining and place that inbetween the legs on the floor.
    This will ensure that when you fix the other leg you can pack it tight against the 1x4 making sure that they are dead square.
    We have to fit oak thresholds on fire doors, so we use the oak threshold in the exact same way but leave them in place.
    Good tutorial though for those who might not know 👍

    I always chop my hinges into the door then transfer position using a marking stick, and chop into the lining before I even build the lining, nice and easy to cut them flat in the lining on a workbench/trestles, usually use a palm router, then finish with a chisel. I usually test fit the leg to the door for piece of mind, though It's never been been wrong, so the door is effectively pre-hung, remove the door, make up and fit the lining. Like Danny M I always fit the hinge side first then square everything off that.

    Good Videos
    A string line from corner to corner is a good check
    Advise Dummy Frames fitted first, means another set of door frames installed but no damage to finished frames as can be fitted after floors are done
    Also gives option of installing Door Sets or Choice of frame can change to be oak slips for example
    Your comment on leaving a hollow inwards is spot on !!!!!!
    Router Table very handy for a big job

    Great video Rich. Only one thing missing - how to calculate the height of the header. I can see people putting it in at 8' and then wondering why they've got a bit of a gap under the door 😊

      That’s a good point Rob I shouldn’t presume should I. I’ll try to edit that into the door fitting video coming soon👍🏻

      @@mrabuilders6723 it's actually quite a tricky topic that couldn't easily fill it's own video. You have to allow for the type of covering including any underlay, then the type of room (I've seen 15mm gaps in a kitchen to allow for air flow), and then quality of the door as to how much you can trim if anything changes. I'm sure you could think of a load more decision points - basically, all the stuff that automatically comes off the top of your head without even having to think about it when you're the professionals you guys are.

    Hi Richard, love your videos mate.
    I have just fitted 2 door casings that came already trenched for 762 door. Both doors still had to trimmed 2mm and back cut along the leading edge.
    I always use ballbearing hinges, so do you think this maybe the issue? Have you experienced this issue?
    Trimming prefinished or laminated doors can’t be trimmed for obvious reasons .

    • @mrabuilders6723
      @mrabuilders6723  4 місяці тому

      Hi Paul. You may find that the off set of each leaf on the hinge is wider on ball bearing hinges so yes you may find that is the reason.
      However, I have also found that depending on where the frames are from they may not have allowed enough clearance between the trenches. Ideally you want around 30 1/4” or 767mm. I’ve re-trenched frames many times in the past. Enjoy the rest of your bank holiday 👍🏻

      Hi Darren our linings are pre routed to accept the fire seals straight from manufacturer 👍🏻

    • @mrabuilders6723
      @mrabuilders6723  Рік тому +1

      Hi Gary. It is the preferred method for me to get them in the frame already if for no other reason than it’s less work on site. The only time I do them in the door is in the case of a loft conversion like we also have on our channel if you haven’t seen it. There are two existing doors and frames where I’ve changed the old interior doors to fire doors so I’ll need to router in the intumescent fire seals in the door. 👍🏻

    Hi rich
    I had new linings and doors fitted just before Xmas other than getting ridiculous varying prices for the 8 doors had some guy talk the perfect way he was going to fit them and most of it was bs he complained about everything floor out ceiling out walls out can’t get a fixing,he said originally there be no need to cut the doors down as the frames be built to suit the door around them being fitted which made sense ,other than the bottom of door needing trimming he still cut some them down and badly too saw marks left,gaps inconsistent all around one door when the sunshines in the hall and door closed the light illuminates around the sides it’s is a joke, when the architrave went on the gaps I could fit my finger down the sides probably every door now dose the ghost swing open and this was all coming from a man harping on about how long he been a chippy 30 odd years lol luckily I’ve managed to rectify everything crap he done and unless you was looking for it you probably wouldn’t notice what a pretty crap
    cowboys that talk the talk and will say it’s just a door and frame and in reality it is but they still not got the skill no matter how many years they been doing it to actually fit linings or frames and doors correctly
    I’m dreading the coming months because the best of can go out of shape possibly but where he ripped down some lining sides they probably warp in no time
    Just really bad experience
    Nice video btw be interesting how you would fit a new lining in a old opening not one that’s already created straight

      😂well spotted Chris yes I did but the piss take of myself filmed by Mick after the fact on the day of fitting was unfortunately filmed in Timelapse so I couldn’t put it in unless like we always do on the channel you would have seen it and I would have admitted my mistake. 👍🏻
