I've got a 2011, 232,000km on it, biggest fix was the rear main seal, still feels insanely solid. recently bought a mk7.5 R but plan on making the mk6 a project within the next couple years! absolutely love the thing.
If you're getting a Mk6 the most important thing is the timing chain tensioner. Either get a 2013-2014 when VW updated the tensioner or expect to pay about $1000+ to get it replaced. Love my Mk6 GTI. Good video dude.
My 2013 GTI with DSG just hit 100k. Zero issues, just pleasure. It's well maintained. I simply just do what the manufacturer recommends and use Top Tier Premium fuel. Expect to get another 100k.

@@nip2121 OEM parts costs about 180 euros (200 USD)... timing chain, tensioner, guides. You don't need to change oil pump chain and balance shafts chain if your car has less than 300.000kms. That would take about 4-5 hours of labour. 1000-2000$ is robbery for that kind of job, typically for "stealership". I have changed timing chain, tensioner and guides for about 400$. No one had problem ever with that.

This cars are reliable after you spend a good 3k on them... Timing chain tensioner failure is a thing for them from very early on... Also fuel pump module, and intake manifold failure are very common.. So if you have an extra 3k to 4K to spend on parts and labor and another 1k in random maintenance or break downs then you will be okay...
Dude I have one so I know what I’m talking about, I love the car but they do have issues... Lookup intake manifold issues it’s like super common, also the fuel pump module is common too.. The tensioner issue is found in all mk6 models with some exceptions..

Denis Ciobotar in the long run the tl will probably last longer but the gti will give you more enjoyment everytime you drive it. Up to you in what u want. Fun time of ownership or long time ownership but both will last you multiple years
My GTI was significantly less reliable than my Toyotas. Nice car to drive, great handling and build quality, rubbish to own. They are not good as a daily driver. They break often, expensive to repair and the the stealerships are devious bastards. They have horrendous engineering flaws and if it goes wrong, VW don't care. If you want your wallet to burst into flames, go ahead and buy a VAG product.
