Oil paints are very expensive, I know. For beginning artists, I'd recommend to start with studio quality paints and then replace one color after another with professional paints - or you start with only a few colors: ultramarine blue, white, black, burnt sienna, lemon yellow and cadmium red light.
⇢ Burnt Sienna from Rembrandt: amzn.to/2uO1bcr
    ⇢ Yellow Ochre from Rembrandt:amzn.to/2f1dRaJ

⇢ Cadmium red deep from Rembrandt: amzn.to/2ucI8VQ
⇢ Cadmium red light from Rembrandt: amzn.to/2uR7NFu
⇢ Permanent red violet from Rembrandt: amzn.to/2uOjz5e
    ⇢ Alizarin Crimson from Sennelier*
⇢ Naples yellow light from Schmicke Norma: amzn.to/2vbvT07
⇢ Titanium white from Schmincke Norma
⇢ Royal Blue from Schmincke Norma
⇢ Sèvres blue from Rembrandt: amzn.to/2uQMofE

I'm from Russia, so i use this brand a lot)) I have no problem with mars black, but with grayish tones of black this thing happens. Don't know about skintones, because i never use them.
Love your paintings, your vision and your style. You have unique sense of beauty and i like that you are always explore it. I want to tell you lots of compliments, but my writing-english is too bad))
You should really try russian watercolours "Leningradskaya". It's one of the best i ever used. Very old and very good brend.
And by the way you pronounced the name of paint perfectly.

AAAHHHH I've been looking for some good oil paints that are still affordable! I'm currently painting a larger painting, and I had REALLY cheap oil paints. The thing is they are so thick, so I have to mix a bunch of medium with it for it to work. But on an older painting, I realized where I used a lot of medium (Fast drying medium) it began to yellow, and ruined the painting. So I bought a tube from another brand, it was so much better! The brand is masterclass, and I decided to buy their set. But the paints in the set were NOT the same quality as the single tube, even though it's the same brand! I used it for a bit, but suddenly the consistency of the paint changed ( I don't know what happened?) But they became really goopy and awful and were almost impossible to control, they didn't even work like oil paints! You are right, it's sooo important to start with good quality oil paint because trying to use cheap paints caused me a big headache!

Thank you so much for making great videos. Your print in the end looks so beautiful, did you have your painting professionally photographed or did you do it by yourself? And if you did it yourself, would you consider making a tutorial on how to get larger artwork ready to be printed.

I know this is an old review, but if you still end up using these, I find that I just have to “oil out” certain colors more than others. I’ve noticed the same thing with other brands with certain colors (like cadmium red light from M Graham). Once I oil then out once or twice though, they retain the original high chroma long-term without varnishing! Hope this helps anyone out there that’s thinking of using them! 😁

I love how you put together your reference photo. That's an amazingly good idea and such a simple one, too!
Thank you for all of the sharing you do. I can't begin to express how inspired you make me. I don't paint a lot, but I love watercolor and I am a doll maker. Watching your videos and listening to your advice has really helped me get over some of my own personal doubts and fears that have stopped me from being able to focus on my work so I can make that leap to professional.

They are made with safflower oil so it drys twice as fast and also drys to a semi mat finish its the property of the safflower oil that creates the finish ,you can add a gloss medium to it, hope that helps

I use Ladoga and Sonnet oil paint, their student grade paint, and their pretty good actually specially the texture. I think their student grade paint is very close to their artist grade.
Edit: I think the "downsides" you mention is not a downside for others. Because as you said you use other popular brands like Rembrandt, your just accustomed to their oil paints.
Your a good artist, and great work!

I kept wondering what you were doing with that stick... But looks like you're using it to keep your hand steady! That's a wonderful idea!!! I always get mad because my hand will bump or shake and I'll get the paint somewhere I didn't want it... So this is a wonderful idea for me too!! Thank you!!!!

I would not be so sure. In Russia, many people know that the Neva palette is engaged in deceiving and mixing cheaper pigments into more expensive ones without indicating this on the tube.

You do not varnish your paintings -you'll have a lot of fun with your paintings in let's say 10 years - linseed oil will keep on drying, at a point it gets yellow, then your colors are going to get really dull - so you need to varnish, you stop the linseed oil from reacting with the oxygen - you should know this.
