Been modeling 46 yrs. Won some regionals. Your work is best I have ever seen. Just FABULOUS.
Thanks Mike !
Its the care taken in the final finish that I think makes these models exceptional.
Great work, James. You, along with other UA-camrs like Andy's Hobby HQ and Panzermeiser36 have gotten me back into models. Thanks for letting me steal all your great techniques!
Thats very kind @M. Misch , to be ranked alongside those youtubers makes me think I'm doing something right !
Good Afternoon! I've built a number of these KV kits in 1/72 up to 1/35 for paint scheme research before I built the 1/16 RC KV-2 Splendid job, Sir!
Thankyou ! That KV-2 must be a monster
That's a GREAT kit...........
Nice video, nice build!! I know I really enjoyed building mine! 😉👍👌😊
Thanks mate !
Cracking job in the build , these little add ins have made a huge difference to the tank. As for the paint job and weathering outstanding you make it look so easy
Thanks James, I'm glad I did the little modifications in the end , really added to the look I think
@@lpjmodels just takes it to the next level and all the modifications that you done can be done by anyone
Great Work! And very interesting to watch all those individual Weathering Steps come together. Great Finish!
Thanks ! Its great on my end to see it come together with no silly mistakes for a change 😜
My new favourite channel. 1:35 vehicles and your techniques look great.
It's great finish. Also, it's very politely building and painting.
thanks my freind!
Cracking build, the more I watch the more I learn!
Thanks Andy !
Very well done. I like the two-tone camo instead of the monotone green👍
Thanks Eric, I didnt fancy doing a plain green one this time. I'll save that for the t34
Another master piece !!! I absolutely LOVE all of it... beginning with the tracks, the overall weathering, the chipping and rust effect...very very inspiring !!!
Amazing build James! Love your style!
Very nice. I just picked up a t34, I will use some of the techniques you have taught. Thanks.
Very tidy build thanks James.
Thanks Nick !
Great video. I will be trying out the post shading/highlighting you did in my next build. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Brett, I think it added a nice variation, I still highly rate black basing though
Excellent job building and painting & video of your Tamiya KV-1 tank!
Those are some of the nicest tracks I have ever seen, i'm amazed how easy you made it look.
Thanks Travis, usually I put a lot more effort into the tracks, somehow the simple approach worked well
Very nice weathering job. Bravo
Thanks LZ
Impressed with your various effects ... this is REAL ONE....
Thanks Denis !
Wow, James....how you went?....absolutely superbly!! Not only the way you build, paint and weather your models but the explanations you provide....just perfect. Keep up the great work and many thanks for sharing your skill with us. Catch you on the next one.
Thanks Robbo I really appreciate it ! There will be something soon, im going to aim for a build a fortnight. Its a tall order but being furloughed (for now anyway) helps with getting these vids done a bit quicker.
Thanks again for your work....very inspirational and you provide heaps of tips for me to try. A build a fortnight...amazing...I'm lucky to complete a build every six months...and I'm retired!! Obviously retirement is taking me away from my hobby 😜
Excellent build, thank you also for explaining what drill bit size you are using, many thanks. Cheers!
Excellent build there my friend the paint looks great nice weathering top job stay safe 👍🙏
Thanks Rims ! You too my friend
Great work. Always nice to see the venerable KV series get some attention.
Beautiful work, James. I really like the camo and the missing fender.
Thanks James 😀
Well done really nice work you should do another one this time in white camo 👌👍
Thanks John, too many kits to do without doing one twice unfortunately :(
Awesome build, you have crazy airbrushing skills James!
Thanks VMS ! I have been practising a lot
@@lpjmodels It shows!
Very nice job, thanks for sharing your process
You're welcome John :)
I think you just convinced me to get this kit. I have a Trumpeter KV-1 but this looks pretty sweet... well it is Tamiya after all! Good choice on the camo, it's always nice to see something different than 4BO. Nice work m8!
I am also looking to get the Tamiya kit. I just built the Trumpeter KV-1 and KV-2, though, and they are pretty good kits. Would certainly recommend them.
@@jrh2u Yes they are very good. I have a bunch of aftermarket with it and hope to do a video build of it in the future as well.
thanks mate, its a great kit, and id look forward to seeing what you do with it !
@@lpjmodels Thanks, James.
That model is absolutely stunning great job
Why thankyou :)
I love it, I’m going to copy your techniques. The dust is amazing
Thanks Pete ! Night shift inspired me to try this dust technique out , it works really nicely when blended in with the other layers
And yet another awesome video full of tips, techniques and painting! Definitely give this a watch if you want to learn some kool stuff to try on your next scale model! 🤓 almost forgot...It's Awesome to see you making a few basic mods to the kit. One day soon you'll be taking on a full resin conversion....🤔
One day mate 😄 thanks for the kind words !
Well it's probably been 40 yrs since I made a Tamiya KV so I can't recall how the old one went together but this one looks fun.
It was a very fun build, I forgot tamiya did an old one too
@@lpjmodels i can't forget the old one. I was in the model section of the toy shop and I took it to counter and plonked down my handful of notes and coins and the assistant said "this is only £n.nn, it's £." So i hunted through my pocket assuming I'd left the extra 30p or whatever at the bottom but nothing there. At that point in the depth of my despair/embarrassment, the kindly gent said "you can have it for that" and rang up the reduced price on the cash register.
Excellent work! I have to say, your shell impacts are the best I have seen to date. Well done!
That's really kind thankyou, I used the Night Shift tutorial 😊
Stunning build..incredible detail, very informative and educational....as a result I have subbed to your channel...Kudos and WELL DONE!
Phil thays Very kind thankyou !
Outstanding video and presentation.
Great video and and a fantastic build. Oh and thanks for going into the detail you do with paint colors and mixing ratios, I always find this extremely helpful.
Thankyou Darson100 you're very welcome!
Awesome Job! Especially love the paint scheme. Thank you for taking the time and effort to explain the process step by step. I enjoy your channel.
Very nice build.
Garry thankyou !
Excelent work sir👍😁 there truly weren't many soviet tanks clad in camouflage and most were just painted in a single flat olive green colour, so it's quite a surprise. I like the simple yet effective method you did to give the tracks some metalic appearance. Looking forward to your next build😎 Be well and stay safe
Thanks Annan, I did lots of research as I didn't want to do one that was just green, luckily I found one that I liked and had a reference for !
@@lpjmodels no problem😄 please keep up the good work sir. One thing I'd like to point out is that the KV-1 wasn't actually a very successful tank variant as the soviets eventually deemed it too expensive for a tank that had the exact same firepower as that of the T34. It was also considered too heavy and slow as it couldn't crooss most bridges most medium tanks could and couldn't run at the speed more that 35km/hour. One obvious thing that made it impervious and superior to the german tanks in the early stage of the Operation Barbarossa was the thickness of its armor, which was difficult to penetrate by the germans' panzer IIIs and IVs not to mention the 38ts, except at point-blank range.
Engrossing and brilliant build. 👏
A real gem...superb
Many thanks Jürgen
One way of designing a tank: take a T-35 and remove everything (like extra turrets) that doesn't look like a KV.
Anyway, marvellous build! Nice to watch, good-looking result.
Extraordinary build, James 😊👍
Thanks mate !
Superb work James, inspiring and a lot of “need to try” techniques 😃👌🏼
Looks great. I've never had any luck with trying to use oils over any kind of matt varnish.
Thanks ! Whys that?
Beautiful model 💪💪💪
Excellent finish, great attention to detail. Very nice to see a different paint scheme on a Russian tank too.
Thanks Model Nerd ! I dodnt fancy just green this time :)
Bravo. Complimenti per la tua tecnica e i tuoi video. 😎👍👍👍👍👍Ciao. From Italy 🇮🇹
A wonderfull construction
Thanks Detlev!
very nice build, loved the painting, iam near that stage with my KB/KV 1 zvezda 1.35 just might pinch a part of your paint job, if you don't mind
What a lovely paint job! Really nice work.
Thanks Basil !
Super well done paint work and weathering.
That does look fantastic
Thanks mate !
Absolutely brilliant, James, including the filming and editing!
Thanks Chris that's great to hear, I try and put in a lot of effort to make these videos as best I can on a phone, so thankyou !
Reminder is set see you at six sharp mate😊😉👍
I love Tamiya kits
Great build, both skill and explanation! Thanks.
The tank looks really very realistic, great job 🔥👍
Many thanks mate !
Bro this was incredible. Great job man
Much appreciated my friend!
Great build and especially liked your battle damage. I just finished a KV-@ but Trumpeter and noted that the Tamiya kit went together a bit easier. I didn’t catch the brand of spru cutters you used.
Thanks Bill ! God hand are the sprue cutters
Gotta love a well done KV1…excellent!
great work - thanks for sharing
My Pleasure Clive thanks for watching
Great stuff James! Really informative and well structured video. Good to see some different techniques in use and you're not afraid to experiment. Stay safe mate!
That's a really good build. I must say i struggle a bit with dust effects, getting the balance. I've had some success with thinned matt varnish put in the areas where I want dust which I leave until just a little tacky and then using a brush with very little pigment, sort of dry brushing with light pigment.
It looks fantastic!
Thanks Pedro
A fantastic build and a neat finish. Great to see
Thanks a lot Steve !
It's looking really good man! I like the missing fender section, makes the model more interesting to look at
Beautiful work! Martin’s (Uncle Nightshift) influence has added to the build beautifully. I’m personally not big on camouflage on tanks, I much prefer single colour schemes weathered, but this has worked perfectly....stunning stuff James! 🤙
Thanks Steve ! Its really great that we have people like Martin (and a magnitude of others) to draw inspiration from, I hope I gave it enough of my own spin!
Amazing job! All effects just in place, wonderful!^^
Cheers Scalecat, glad you like !
Hi James, that was a fantastic build, I did not know that the Russian's used camo schemes during WWII, hope you are keeping safe and well in these crazy times we are all in, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
Yeh mate they used camo on their tanks
serious paint, juste excelent.
I like what you did to the mud guard
Great build!
Thankyou Nazid !
Lovely shade of 4bO!
Your voice reminds me of the person who does the voice over for Great British Bake Off. Nice vid!
Looks sick - nice build!
Thanks Mate !
hey Matt could you do some 1/35 tamiya tanks on your channel
@@diegocastillo-olivares4992 thanks for the suggestion
Set reminder? You’re damn right!
Awesome build & video!!! Think your shell impacts on side of turret are fantastic - may just have to try that myself for do want to show battle damage, as well on my kits. Never thought about showing a broken headlight before, think your depiction is the 1st time i have ever seen that. Also, often forget that the Soviets did use camo on their tanks during WWII, just so used to seeing their equipment in that "bland" Soviet green.
I actually had just finished building one of Tamiya's ancient 1970s version of the KV-1, for wanted to make a tank that had captured Finnish colours/markings. Then Tamiya comes out with this newly tooled kit. Had NO interest in building this newer version for had already build the older kits numerous times. Watching people build this kit on different sites, so "reluctantly" purchased this kit. GLAD I DID!! This is just an awesome kit and was a joy to build - just need to finish my weathering!!
Thanks James ! I got the techniques for the shell impacts and battle damage from Night Shift an his awesome tutorials.

This new tool kv is awesome, I havent built the old one but I did built the trumpeter kv2 many moons ago and it wasnt a bad kit, this is leagues ahead though.
Many thanks for the comment !
Top work sir !! Greetings from Poland ! :)
Great video and tutorial... Tanks..!!
Fantastic job. 🤩🤩🤩
Looks really nice man!👍
Nicely done dude!! With that picture wire if you anneal it might make it more flexible but with not doing that i think you got more of a realistic positioning with it!
That's a good idea!
@@lpjmodels i haven’t done it my self but i have with little bits of wire, i saw this guy do it with some big PE part for a ship and he said it stops it spring back as much and easier to shape
Crackin work mate
😁👌
Thanks Tim !
Beautiful job! It's nice to see the whole tank due to the Russian's Spartan nature. Extra stowage is nice but so is this.
If you want to avoid dust on your model when airbrushing, consider spraying the room with a plant mister. It pulls the dust out of the air.
Thanks Greg !
Nice work!
Lucky7 KV1,well done. 😁😁😁😁😁
Thanks Tony ! 😃
@@lpjmodels No thanks, I thank you in learning painting. Great painting, so well and details.
God Hand nippers are totally worth it. Love mine.
Hi Den, they are a game changer, I didnt realise how much difference they'd make
Great job man! Really nice :)
Great work!
cracking build....
Brilliant.
Excelent JOB.
Can you maybe do a tutorial on how you paint your models? Like, how you build the model together and then what you paint in whole and what you paint in pices
Beautiful build James! I love the weathering effects - they look great. I always enjoy your videos, and the clear the detailed explanations of your techniques that you show us. Great work.
Thanks Gary ! Much appreciated 🙏
Amazing build. Great technique. Just maybe stupid question. How did you remove the tracks after gluing it ? Thanks.
Epic
Thanks Pietro!
very realistic, looking at my models I still have a long way to go....
Keep at it Pavel, practice makes perfect
