@@MoviesNeverSayDie But I’m not a fan of The Goonies, however😂 I know I’m the odd one out, but somehow didn’t watch it as a kid, so I don’t have the nostalgia factor. Viewing it now, it lacks some of the essentials of 80s popcorn cinema - mainly pacing. The movie is bordering on hyper-active, never taking time to build proper suspense, and with the characters yelling non stop. It feels more like what’s pushed on kids nowadays in that regard. Also, I’m not from the generation so easily offended, yet I do find it slightly offensive or mean spirited in places. Anyway, that’s my little soap boxy thing. I understand why people love it, but viewing it as an adult, it doesn’t hold a candle to likes of BTTF😉
@@lthammox I can certainly understand that perspective. Nostalgia and growing up with the Goonies is a bonus for the films appeal. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest where this was filmed so it was easy for us to go out in the same settings and have our own adventures as kids. Many aspects of it wouldn't work in todays cinema making it a product of its time. It would be hard to remake this film today with Sloth's character and some of the humor.
In my top 10 for sure. I'm a horror gal so my list would be at least 70% horror (if not more) but Back to the Future is a amazing and will always be in my top 10 of all time
I get that, it's a film a lot of people were shocked not to see on my list. I enjoy TLB but it never grabbed for for some reason. Even though we watch it every Halloween. Thanks for watching!
@MoviesNeverSayDie no no no. You don't get a pass here. The list must reflect not only your taste in film but also represent the best from the 80s, and The Lost Boys belong here, whether you liked it or not.
this really got my juices flowing for old 80s movies - and went into my old vhs vault and found - blue thunder - a forgotten gem of a movie - excalibar - the keep - emerald forest - also the long riders - the last gr8 western until tombstone
@@FatGitLovesThe80s haha yes, I am a huge fan of Kiefer Sutherland and Corey Feildman was great too. Brotherhood of justice took me by surprise at how great it was and the star power in it haha 😊
@@AllAboutMusicMovies that movie showcases just how good an actor John Candy was. Movie was a comedy of course but he was so good in the dramatic aspects of the movie
Congratulations Anthony on completing your Top 100 epic! It's great to see them all together in this 2 hour 80s marathon! Merry Christmas and Stay Gold, Australia's Retro Man.
This is freaking awesome! And you chose my favorite movie as number #1. I actually called into a radio show one time for a back to the future trivia, I wiped the floor with the host, it was great.
The 80s' had some great movies for sure, I'm glad I was a teen and saw a lot of these and the ones mentioned in the comments. Yes, I have a lot of them sitting on my movie shelf....in DVD/Blue Ray; it'll take too much room for VHS😃
It was a great time to be a kid or teen and hitting the cinemas! Thank god home media has compacted since the VHS days. Although I still have a collection of them I can part with haha. Thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
Rocky 3, European Vacation, Legend, Willow, Conan the Barbarian, Lost Boys, Romancing The Stone, Jewel of the Nile, and of course, Neverending Story need to make it on here. Overall the list was good and very, very well put together and great comentary. Thank you!
Cool list. I’d put The Last Dragon on there somewhere. The Neverending Story is pure 80s fantasy along with Legend. And then idk how I didn’t see this in the comments, but Conan the Barbarian should be top 10 easily
1 Raiders Of The Lost Ark 2 E T 3 Ghostbusters 4 Beetlejuice 5 The Terminator 6 Predator 7 Aliens 8 Top Gun 9 Back To The Future 10 Willow 11 The Witches Of Eastwick 12 Coming To America 13 The Fly 14 Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back 15 Star Wars Episode VI The Return Of Jedi 16 Gremlins
Some movies in the 80s has that magical touch (dont know how to describe) that movies from today never can reach. Like Gremlings, ET, Star Wars, Indianer Jones, Goonies, Big Trouble in little China, Back to the Future, Ghostbuster,... films that will touch our kids today for sure.
To me there was a certain level of creativity that made them fun. Problem with today's movies is even though the titles, the stars, the stories are all different they still all follow the same studio assembly line formula. They also try to appeal to so many different demographics they usually fail to connect with any of them.
Great list. Reminds me of why the 80's are one of the best decades ever. Miles ahead of the current era in terms of quality. I just don't bother watching lots of newer movies, mostly stick with these classics from the 80's/90's and 2000-2010's. 2020's so far has been pretty lame.
@@MoviesNeverSayDiefor the most part I hate the majority of 80s movies because of the slow pacing and lame primitive non cgi effects as a matter fact, the only movies that I would actually watch that came out in the 80s would be Rambo The First Blood 1982 Conan The Barberian 1982 Tron 1982 Flight of the Navigator 1986 Young Sherlock Holmes 1985 and The Abyss 1989 but the rest of them I don’t even bother looking at
Great list! I enjoyed watching. 80s by far was the best decade for motion pictures. I really liked the fact you had Temple of Doom above Raiders. I personally always liked that one the best as well. Some movies I would’ve liked to see Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan, Return of The Jedi, Spaceballs, An American Werewolf in London, The Lost Boys, The Last Temptation of Christ. And was Platoon on there? I can’t remember…like I said SO many good movies
My list of the best movies of the 1980s, in no particular order: 1.) Baby, It's You 2.) Drugstore Cowboy 3.) Melvin and Howard 4.) Atlantic City 5.) Raging Bull 6.) Reds 7.) Roger & Me 8.) Blade Runner 9.) Full Metal Jacket 10.) Last Exit to Brooklyn 11.) Repo Man 12.) Raiders of the Lost Ark 13.) Empire Strikes Back 14.) River's Edge 15.) Risky Business
Thanks for watching! These are some great picks! I just rewatched Repo Man recently, it had been some time but it holds up great. Recently watched Free Jack again as well and loved it still.
Yay! I guessed your #1 movie way ahead of time. Great series! I watched it (well, listened to it) while driving from Gunma to Nagoya to pick up a desk from Ikea. Because they only had the desk I wanted in frigging Nagoya. Thanks for the entertainment!
Thanks for watching I really do appreciate it. And it's my pleasure to provide a little entertainment on a long road trip! Hope all went well on your desk run Peter!
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Escape From New York, Empire Strikes Back, Beverly Hills Cop, Terminator, Aliens, Risky Business, Visionquest, Back to the Future, Karate Kid, Breakfast Club, Rocky IV, Johnny Handsome, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Fright Night.
I just subbed for a couple of reasons, 1. You have a comprehensive list without focusing too much on the very mainstream, and, 2. You're not giving too much away. So many movie recommendation channels tell the whole plot and I'm normally looking for a movie to watch that I haven't seen. Kudos to you and I will be watching more.
I should say The Wraith always gets me with an awesome soundtrack and awesome chase car. Maniac Cop was sooooo gooood! Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann was so freaking cool, I always wanted to have that helmet. Critters was off the chain! Love those eating hairy fuzz balls. Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone sci fi in that era was so creative and fill with fun. I like your list but I have a bunch that complete mine! I was born in 1978, grew up watching great tv series, movies and music.
I love The Wraith as well. That's the fun thing about lists like this. Everyone's are a little different depending on age, and experiences. I was born in 77 so 80's movies were what made me love cinema!
@@MoviesNeverSayDie I tend to go back and rewatch all of those adventure/quest movies because even though they might seem silly now, they put a lot of heart into making them believable. Rapid fire, My Science project, Steel Dawn, The Blood of Heroes, Live Wire, etc. Those were awesome movies. I get what you are saying, we had a good time at the cinema, we really enjoyed it and its really special.
@@carlosnavarro4037 totally agree movies had more of a unique vibe to them. I remember we had a second run theater down the street that would play movies just out of the main theater release window, tickets we're like half price so we could go watch anything and everything. I still enjoy current films as much as possible but they sadly have such as assembly line feel to them now with more borrowed elements that original.
‘Roger Rabbit’ (#45) is still undefeated in the animation in real life feature category, and still holds up as top 20 films to show your kids by age 10 today (for me)
I was watching the video and checked the comments and saw ur comment on roger rabbit and commented, I probably should comment to the guy who made the video@@RogueWolfArtist
Good list just so many great 80s movies. Missing Next of Kin, Cyborg, Universal Soldier, Dirty Dancing, Foot Loose, Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Wizard. Animated movies like Oliver, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Fern Gully, Land Before Time, Secret of Nympth, The Transformers The Movie, Duck Tales The Legend of the Lost Lamp, An American Tale, Fox and the Hound
E.T. is my #1. I'm surprised that a lot of the movies you have in the 50s I have ranked in the top 20. But that's what makes these videos interesting. It gives me a different perspective on some movies.
Great list (I love that you put F/X on here). Now, let's get weird. Add...An American Werewolf in London, Princess Bride, One Crazy Summer, Labrynth, Pee Wee, Runaway (Tom Sellick), Lost Boys, Videodrome, Serpent and the Rainbow, Flatliners, Heathers, Eraserhead, UHF, Back to School, Do the Right Thing, Naked Lunch, Vamp, Near Dark, Hell Comes to Frogtown, Toxic Avenger, Purple Rain, The Fly, Dreamscape, The Last Dragon, Hollywood Shuffle, I'm Gonna Get U Sucka, Space Balls, Less Than Zero, and Buckaroo Banzai.
I thank God every day that I'm a Gen X that grew up in the 80s (and I don't even believe in God). It was a decade or so of an absolute explosion of creativity. Music had so many genres, Rock, Pop Rock, Hard Rock, Synthwave, Punk, New Romantics, Ballads, Blues, Dance, you name it. Almost every movie that came out was gold, and there were a lot of them. You'd go to the movies without even checking what was on, you knew there'd be something worth watching. TV wasn't that great tbh, endless reruns of the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island etc. The 90s/2000s were the golden age of tv for me.
I definitely miss the days when the movie theater on the weekend was the spot to be no matter what was playing. I agree - the boom of creative expression in the 80s was awesome to live through! Thanks for watching!
Awesome list! There are a few titles in there that I haven’t seen - so I’ll be checking them out when I get the chance. ;) I’d like to have seen Adventures in Babysitting make the cut (it’s a childhood favourite of mine, and the directorial debut of Chris Columbus).
Haha yeah I am probably the only person on Earth who would put it so high but I love it and feel it's everything great about 80s action all in one flick! Thanks for watching!
@@MoviesNeverSayDie we all have our guilty pleasures. I just watched NOTHING BUT TROUBLE yesterday. Enjoyed it quite a bit even though it's supposed to be one of the worst movies ever 🤷🏾♂️
Can't abide by the order of your picks (pretty off the wall compared to conventional lists) but gotta give you props for exposing some very obscure titles. The 80s are my favorite all-time decade, and there are a handful of titles on your list I've never seen and intend to check out. Gracias.
No mention of She's Out of Control, The Explorers, Ladyhawke, The Dark Crystal, Loverboy, Maximum Overdrive, The Beastmaster, Red Sonja, Beyond Thunderdome, Greystoke, Cloak & Dagger, Flight of the Navigator, Total Recall, Fright Night, The Gate, Leviathan, The Abyss, Krull, the list goes on.
@@csj9619 You know, to each their own. I haven't seen any of those five movies and never will, but it's his list and not yours, so his top 5 is correct as it is. Cheers.
the 1980s. Just graduated from high school. Started off at a community college part time while working. Had time to collect comics and see GREAT MOVIES with friends. Man, the memories we had, espeically on 1981 Summer break. AND WE SUBSCRIBED TO THE GREAT MAG, called "Starlog" , which is now defunct.
Great Job!!! This helped me create a list to watch with my kids. I do think that "the lost boys" is missing form the list. But still a great job. Kuddos to you!!
love that you ranked the thing one place higher than ET. The thing and ET were released around the same time. Et with a friendly alien, destroyed the reception that the thing should have received with a bad alien but also an unexplainable alien. Plus Et also almost destroyed the gaming market.
A pretty comprehensive list and was a nice video to watch. Brought back lot's of memories. Still, there's also a lot of multiple entries from certain series of movies, leaving no room for others like: Akira Batteries Not Included Do The Right Thing Hellraiser Labyrinth Neverending Story The Secret of NIMH Turner & Hooch Just to name a few that came to mind.
Your the first one to bring this film up. Full disclaimer I missed this film when making the list, I was sure it came out in early 1990 but at 1989 is should've been on this list. Thanks for watching!
Only one police academy movie? One crazy summer was totally 80s! Mannequin. Fright Night, Lost Boys but others already mentioned it. Dead Poets Society, Good morning Vietnam.
Great list... I would trade out a few for The Never Ending Story, Cloak and Dagger, The Lost Boys, Romancing The Stone, A Name Of The Rose and Revenge Of The Nerds.... Great list and very entertaining video
No.82, North Shore. I've never heard of that movie despite growing up in the 70s and 80s. However, I know surfing, and I spotted *LAIRD HAMILTON* there. Arguably the greatest big wave surfer that's ever lived. Seen at 22.40 and 22.53
Lost Boys come on dude top 10 easy. Get rid of Over the top & Uncle Buck. Where is Silver Bullet? How about a slept on classic about $2. Better off Dead. Revenge of the NERDS as Ogre would say. Flight of the Navigator & The Neverending story were all childhood favorites. What about "stay golden pony boy". Outsiders. Great cast. How did you miss that one?? The box you opened it we came. My all time horror movie HellRaiser. Pinhead should tear your soul apart. Easy money, Porkys, Fright Night, Christine, The Wraith, The Gate, Creepshow, Return of the Living Dead, Field of Dreams, The Natural., Fast Times Ridgemont High & 3 o'clock High. Alot of great movies in the 80's. Maybe you should make a top 200 lol.
This took a lot of time. I walked 10 minutes to the grocery store listening to this, picked up some milk, walked back home, ate some cereal and just finished this. What a blast from the past!
I can't believe you missed out some total classics like..... WELL THE 80s FILM OF ALL... LOST BOYS I mean come on, I can't believe this wasn't on the listing and It should have been in the top ten. Then there is all these classics like... Labyrinth Never Ending Story My Science Project Enemy Mine Wild Cats Running Scared House and House 2 Wanted Dead Or Alive Delta Force Hills Have Eyes The Howling Top Secret Real Genius Porky's Revenge Of The Nerds Better Off Dead Pretty In Pink St Elmo's Fire My Summer Vacation Summer School Trick Or Treat Critters Young Blood Short Circuit Cocoon Howard The Duck ? The Garbage Pal Kids ? Little Shop Of Horrors Conan The Barbarian Best Defence's Wrath Highlander Iron Eagles Heartbreak Ridge Tequila Sunrise Midnight Run Midnight Express Manic Cop ? Cyborg The Abyss Adventures Of Babysitting Red Heat Lemon Popsicle High Times At Richmond High... I could keep going but getting bored typing lol 😂😂😂
It's absolutely subjective but War Games, Electric Dreams, After Hours and Night Shift would definitely be on my list. Not to mention. Paris, Texas, Wings Of Desire, Who's Singin' Over There, Cinema Paradiso and some more European and Yugoslavian movies... Never the less, I'm enjoying watching your countdown and remembering the lines in front of an old cinema...
Thanks for watching Gregor! I'm sure I have a vastly different taste in movies than most. Definitely some films regarded as 80s classics just didn't hit as well with me despite enjoying some of them. I do have a couple of the films you mentioned in a Forgotten 80s Movies series.
The 80's was great for commercial cinema, there's never been another decade like it for original high-concept, mainstream fun and cheese. It was also a great decade for dramatic cinema though.....The Killing Fields, The Year of Living Dangerously, Gandhi, The Mission, Mississippi Burning, Das Boot, Come and See, Hope and Glory, Empire of the Sun, The Elephant Man, Salvador, Missing, Paris, Texas, Reds.....it would be impossible to pick a top 100.
@@badinfluence3814 I agree, it is impossible... there can not be only one as Highlander taught us. Blue Velvet, Dune (I never understood how David Lynch dislike his film), The Hitcher, Witness and how could I forget Angel Heart!
No American Werewolf in London, No Lost Boys, No Highlander, No Pet Sematary, No Short Circuit, No The Fly, No Night of the Creeps, No Critters?? No way Bro😢
Yeah it's human nature for people to get upset and defensive, and to devalue an opinion that differs from theirs in order to give themselves more self confidence on their own tastes. The person in the room who is right is never the person who goes around telling everyone they're wrong. Cinema isn't math where 2+2 always equals 4. Art is subjective but most people only feel that way when their own opinions are challenged. Thanks for watching!
No.... they know it's his top 100, but it's the same thing when you talk to someone about something the majority likes, but are surprised when a person doesn't like it, or like it as much as everyone else does. So they voice the fact they're surprise. That's all. I haven't finished the list yet, but I'd be surprised if Big Trouble in Little China, or Spaceballs doesn't make the list. 🤷🏾♂️
Trading places at 84 lol😅. It’s top 20 at worst. Damn you trashed some great movies. And Uncle Buck that far back. This can’t be in order? It’s random right?
Excellent list. I'd have swapped some out for following: 1) The Lost Boys 2) The Outsiders 3) Beverly Hills Cop 2 4) Can't Buy Me Love 5) The Blues Brothers 6) Silverado 7) St Elmo's Fire 8) Platoon 9) Heaven Help Us 10) Red Heat
I'm convinced you just put these in the order that you thought of them. I know all movies are subjective but some of your picks are just wild. Raiders at 41. Empire at 31. Then you got cobra just outside your top 10 movies of the decade. Rambo part 2 at 5, man. It is your list tho.
Yeah I have my own taste for sure. Indiana Jones and Star Wars were great. But I always gravitated to Eastwood, Bronson, Stallone, Arnold etc. I also love plenty of superficial dramas and dumb comedies. The Empire Strike back is awesome but Stallone's brilliantly cheesy 90s minute music video movie Cobra is, awesomer to me. Thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
Maybe I just missed them, but what happened to Dirty Dancing, Fast Times ARH, Rocky 3, Pretty in Pink, Lost Boys, 16 Candles, Purple Rain, Raising Arizona…?

@@MoviesNeverSayDie Indeed. The PNW is the most beautiful part of the country. The Fog and The Birds😎
In my top 10 for sure. I'm a horror gal so my list would be at least 70% horror (if not more) but Back to the Future is a amazing and will always be in my top 10 of all time

I'm kinda pissed that you didn't include The Lost Boys if I'm honest. I loved Licence to Drive BUT Lost Boys is ICONIC!!!

@MoviesNeverSayDie no no no. You don't get a pass here. The list must reflect not only your taste in film but also represent the best from the 80s, and The Lost Boys belong here, whether you liked it or not.
I can't believe North Shore made this list. I've had flashbacks of it for years, but could never remember the name. Awesome!!!
Thanks for watching! North Shore is a true hidden gem!
loved that movie, watch it every couple years.

Same here Nita, they took chances and were actually unique!
this really got my juices flowing for old 80s movies - and went into my old vhs vault and found - blue thunder - a forgotten gem of a movie - excalibar - the keep - emerald forest - also the long riders - the last gr8 western until tombstone

That's cool! I think I could hold my own in some BTTF trivia as well. I love movie trivia overall! Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching Rambo! Great picks, I wish some of these could've made my list.
Cool list. I’d put The Last Dragon on there somewhere. The Neverending Story is pure 80s fantasy along with Legend. And then idk how I didn’t see this in the comments, but Conan the Barbarian should be top 10 easily
Thanks for watching John, The Last Dragon was just on the outside. I should've gotten it in there somewhere bc it is a wild ride.
Romancing the Stone!
Solid flick! Douglas and Turner were a comical duo.

I've seen all except one.
Out of order, but great, great list. Full of iconic movies!!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
They also try to appeal to so many different demographics they usually fail to connect with any of them.
it's called talent, originality, hard work. now we have talentless people who don't wanna put in the effort for greatness
Fantastic list, covered most my favorites, I might of added Survivors starring Robin Williams, hilarious and relevant today.
Great list. Reminds me of why the 80's are one of the best decades ever. Miles ahead of the current era in terms of quality. I just don't bother watching lots of newer movies, mostly stick with these classics from the 80's/90's and 2000-2010's. 2020's so far has been pretty lame.
Well said! The 80s was a fantastic decade for cinema!
@@MoviesNeverSayDiefor the most part I hate the majority of 80s movies because of the slow pacing and lame primitive non cgi effects as a matter fact, the only movies that I would actually watch that came out in the 80s would be Rambo The First Blood 1982 Conan The Barberian 1982 Tron 1982 Flight of the Navigator 1986 Young Sherlock Holmes 1985 and The Abyss 1989 but the rest of them I don’t even bother looking at
@MoviesNeverSayDie YOU OBVIOUSLY forgot to ADD Remo Williams & Iron Eagle movies on your website here too as well okay.
Thank you for the list, man. Found some gems. Your number 1 is well placed. Cheers.

Thanks a ton for watching! I'm without question a Temple of Doom geek. There were some films I would have definitely liked to have gotten in there.
For sure! I watched the whole thing. Kudos on making that long of a movie. I’m sure a lot of time and editing went into making this

Visionquest is so underrated.
Extreme prejudice is one of the best action movies of the 80s with a brilliant cast and a raw violent tone..amazing and nobody mentions it
I just subbed for a couple of reasons, 1. You have a comprehensive list without focusing too much on the very mainstream, and, 2. You're not giving too much away. So many movie recommendation channels tell the whole plot and I'm normally looking for a movie to watch that I haven't seen. Kudos to you and I will be watching more.
Thank you so much I appreciate the support and I hope you enjoy the channel! I have some fun video ideas coming this summer!
Sorry Live Wire is 90's hahahaha.
@@carlosnavarro4037 early 90s though and it had an 80s movie vibe to it. Liked Brosnon in that one.
@@carlosnavarro4037 totally agree movies had more of a unique vibe to them. I remember we had a second run theater down the street that would play movies just out of the main theater release window, tickets we're like half price so we could go watch anything and everything.

No way Bro😢
Thanks for watching!
I 👍 💯 agree that that wasn't on the list of the top 100 movies !
Love the list and I must have watched 95% of these movies but, I feel that the naked gun should have been in there absolutely
Thanks for watching! I definitely love some Naked Gun.
A little annoying how many people don't understand that this is your top 100 and not theirs.
I absolutely love Once Upon A Time In America! Especially the director's cut! I am fortunate enough to have it on blu-ray
Sill planning to get this one added to my collection.
Trading places at 84 lol😅. It’s top 20 at worst. Damn you trashed some great movies. And Uncle Buck that far back. This can’t be in order? It’s random right?
Thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
Excellent list. I'd have swapped some out for following:
1) The Lost Boys
2) The Outsiders
3) Beverly Hills Cop 2
4) Can't Buy Me Love
5) The Blues Brothers
6) Silverado
7) St Elmo's Fire
8) Platoon
9) Heaven Help Us
10) Red Heat
Great picks, love St Elmo's Fire. I need to look into Heaven Help Us it's not ringing a bell for me. Thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
@@MoviesNeverSayDie Heaven Help Us is was also released as Catholic Boys in some countries.
What kind of music is playing between the count numbers ? 1:44-1:50 And Ending 2:03:02.
Some retro loop from one a service I'm signed up for. They have a range of vintage musical loops that come in handy. Thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
really good video! I was searching for something like this!
Thanks so much I'm glad you dug the video! Much appreciated!
@@MoviesNeverSayDie and ofcourse I subscribed to your channel! Greetings from The Netherlands
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Short circuit, the wraith, Howard, the duck, the adventures of Baron Munchhausen, etc
All great pics, just watched rewatched The Wraith on Tubi recently.
Maybe I just missed them, but what happened to Dirty Dancing, Fast Times ARH, Rocky 3, Pretty in Pink, Lost Boys, 16 Candles, Purple Rain, Raising Arizona…?
These ones missed the list but these are all great picks.
