Thanks. Will get these added.
One of my favorite lines from you is “and _____ is bad ”. Makes a vert clear explanation even better, thank you!
Thanks!
Great job with this video. I am more than hyped to get my copy of the game.
I did notice a mistake in the scoring steps of the video. At 43:42, as the Purple player, you should not have gotten income by visiting Safe House #2 as that does not have the income symbol. You would have had to visit Safe House #3.
When I need a GOOD tutorial to play my fav games, the best thing to do instead of wasting time reading rulebooks or searching for the whole internet, is looking for a Gaming Rules video
Watched , learnt, ready to play
Paul you're by far the best 🔝🔝🔝
Too kind. Thanks so much.
"Sandra has given up her job at the car factory and is now working as a Police detective." I was dying hearing this! :DDD
I like how the first player is appointed at the start of the game!
You gave a very clear explanation of the rules. Thank you for saving my group a ton of headaches
I've had my eye on this for awhile because I tend to like Vital Lacerda games for the most part but it's really hard to get them to the table. But this theme and the gameplay makes me feel that my friends will really dig it. Great job as always! Bring on the 19th!
Good and CLEAR and COMPLETE explanation even for foreigners like me! Thank you very much! ;-)
The 1st player is the player who most recently robbed a bank. LOL
Set the comment as newest first to find the timestamps. Enjoy :D
Great rules video! Time just flew by. I'm even more interested now. Thank you for putting this together!
Paul, as usual I love your videos. I will go all in with this game!
Thanks a lot for your great job!
As always, great video Paul. Games where you do the rules videos are always on my radar because I get a thorough idea of how they play, even if I don't end up buying them in the end. Great resource.
thanks Scott!
Great job Paul. I can't wait to get my hands on this game.
Great vid Paul! This super clear vid will help me get this game to the table more often when it's finally released!
Finally, my most anticipated video since...since Founders!
Thanks for this! Very clear and entertaining instructions. Just received the game, so excited to give it a go after your excellent walkthrough!
This is so helpful! Backed the game instantly! Thanks for all the hard work!
Great vid! Looks awesome! Thanks again for this Paul!
Wow, what an opening! Loving it! Your videos are always the best way of learning a game - without having to read the rulebook. Keep going!!
Thanks! You will still need to refer to it for details of what all the cards and fixer tiles do, but other than that, you should be good to go.
Yeah, that's fine. At least you can get started really quickly with the game and start playing, without having to read the manual. Referring back to the manual for specific cards or actions is not a problem.
hey buddy, great vid as always! fyi there is no klingon subtitle to turn on unless you create one, even if it's blank except for a 'welcome to the corrections' channel type thing :)
Thanks. Will do that later. At the moment, there is no need for the Klingon subtitles, I just put that there in case Vital decided to change anything :)
will create one now.
Great video. This has tipped the balance for me to back the game. Really enjoyed this, as well as theFounders of Gloomhaven video. It makes a huge difference having this kind of in-depth explanation for the slightly heavier games out there, especially pointing out the rules that are easy to miss.
Another amazing rules run down, thanks so much good sir
cant wait for this one
You are such a great resource Paul. Fantastic as always with this one.
Great job, Paul!
Thanks Paul. Super clear, as always.
Another fantastic video and really loving the theme.
Unlike a lot of euros, I feel the theme really shines through in this one. And that is from watching people playing it after teaching them. There is real tension.
Great video as always Paul, thanks!
Always quality stuff! Tough to fit Vital's intricate systems into a teach alone, but you've done it!
Thanks. Was a challenge this one :)
I'm taking Escape Plan from the shelf of shame this weekend, and Your video is very helpfull. Great job Paul....as always :)
Amazing video, yours are always my go to, how to play instructional videos.
Thanks so much. Wish I could do more, but rulebook editing work takes a lot of my time.
This and Cerebria have been two of my favorite projects of yours that I've been following. Thanks for a great video! Would you by any chance be willing to include time stamps in the description for quicker access to specific parts of the explanation? If not, no worries not a big deal
timestamps soon. Just need to get a spare 5 mins :)
Looks fun! Thanks for this video!
great instructional video as always. Tks.
I really like the new format of your videos!
Thanks so much! I'm much happier with them
Great as always
What a marvellous explanation! Thank you very much.
Thanks Marco. Glad it helped.
Great video to see how the game works. Good job because making an entertaining 45 minutes video is certainly not easy. Thank you !
Tried with the occasional bit of humour :)
as always....great video. very helpful.
Excellent explanation. Tks a lot
Great great work Paul :)
Great rules explanation. Good content!
An excellent learning video. Great job 👍
You do great videos. I’m always impressed. Well done.
Thanks Jeff!
Excellent explanation, thank you!
Thanks for watching and the feedback :)
Great video!
Thank you so much for this great video!
Thank you. Glad it helped.
Great video Paul!
Thanks. Glad you found it useful.
Seems like a very fun game.
Thumbs up before I watching. You all know what that's mean! I'm happy.
Thanks for this video! Just got a second hand copy and can’t wait to play it. It’ll be my first Lacerda.
But one thing, is there a reason there are four ads?
Shorty Dancer unfortunately, UA-cam turned on ads on all my old videos automatically. I hate ads and only ever want them at the start of a video. I specifically HATE ads in the middle of a video. But they did this across the board, on all videos over a certain length. We had no choice. It will take me hours to go through and remove them all and I just haven’t had chance.
Gaming Rules! Ahhh bummer. Oh well.
excellent video, top
thanks!
Great and very useful video. The use of arrows and graphics to highlight details is very well thought. Also, Thank you for your diction: I am French and I understand you very well! I saw in the comments that you did some Klingon subtiles to add corrections but I missed that. Where are they? (to see them quickly and be better prepared to translate to friends).
Thanks. Yeah, I find adding the animated arrows later a lot more accurate than me pointing a finger, but it does take more work.
I don't think any corrections were needed, so no Klingon subtitles.
Thanks for your quick answer.
Hi 👋🏻 I just want to clarify something about visiting all businesses in a group, on the manual it reads: you only get this bonus once in the game for each group of businesses. My question is if I visit all the three leftmost I get the extra disc bonus, but can’t choose the asset + the notoriety reduction, and if I visit the three rightmost I can get the asset and the notoriety reduction but can’t choose the extra disc? Or can I choose any of the two? And in the remote case I visit the six locations I can choose twice the disc or twice the asset + the notoriety reduction?
Great work Paul!!! If I'm not the first backer for this I'll consider it a personal failure :)
good luck!
well I was pretty close...1778 :P
Thanks for the rules runthrough. @43:44 you mention the purple player has points for safehouse number 1, but their safehouse number 2 has income - is the player able to choose whether to receive income or score points when they go to the location?
Nope. This is explained at 24:00. Your Escape Plan card determines whether you get Income or end of game scoring.
Excellent video! This could be my first Lacerda, but I'm a little bit worried about its complexity. Is it really lighter than Lisboa or The Gallerist? is it true that this could become your favorite Lacerda's game (I heard it from Edward of HeavyCardboard)?
It is lighter yes. As for it being my favourite, time will tell. For sure, this game is more accessible than his others, therefore the number of people I can play this with is higher. The theme is stronger. There is a real feel of tension and it is the most thematic. Ask me in a couple of years when I've let it settle in a bit.
Added to the watch later! Shame I can't download it for the flight home!
you can, you just need a plugin or something. not sure about on mobile devices, but I assume there is a way.
This looks so great! The only thing I'm still having a hard time grasping is wound mitigation. The majority of the contacts/equipment only help you get past a single police meeple, how do you not take 2-4 wounds every time you move?
Combinations of equipment, contacts, asset tiles, gangs... you can also move police away from you when an opponent triggers police movement. You can also take a wound and heal yourself, or just keep getting shot locking off your contact slots. All sorts of options! BTW: gangs and certain contacts allow you to avoid all police in one hex, avoiding up to three cops for the price of one ;)
There are ways to move the police around, and ways to remove them too, and lots of ways to avoid them. There are contact cards and an asset tile that "avoids all police on one tile", and gang members can be used to do that to.
1:28 Wait, turn on the Klingon subtitles?
It is not possible see two subtitles at once. So, what happens if I am already watching the video with English subtitles (btw, many thanks for them!) ?
Can I suggest another alternative for the annotations? Please, can you instead (or also) put in the description the annotation text and its time?
I had not considered that this would be really unfriendly for the deaf. Even though it's incredibky obviously
I am curious. Who is Sandra? What significance does the name have for Senor Lacerda, if any? Is she Vital's first grade teacher who sent him to the Principal's Office as a youth?
Sandra is Vital's wife :)
@@GamingRulesVideos I had a feeling you would know. Thanks! That's part of the joy of being creative: including people you like (or don't!) in books, songs, and games.
With the escape plan being secret, how do the players know that another player is entitled to pick up petty cash at a given location?
Keep notes of every location visited and action taken and check with each player's escape plan card at the end of the game? Is there a tracker in game?
You put cubes on the board to track who went where and what they got. You just check at the end, but nobody has ever tried to "cheat". And if they do, it will become clear at the end.
So the gang can fly you anywhere on the map, not just tiles with helipads?
Using a Gang Member is an Executive action and allows you 3 options. One of those is during the travel step:
You must be on a tile with a Helipad, but can go to anywhere within 2 tiles.
"• During the TRAVEL step, if you are on a tile with a Helipad, spend 1
MP to move to any Location or Land space on a City tile adjacent to or 2 tiles away from your current tile. If you move 2 tiles away, ignore all Police Officers from the tile you move through. You still need to avoid the ones on the tile you left."
Very nice video, thanks. Pity the game's theme is not to my tastes, back to waiting for Mars :(
Nice opening graphic...
I didn't do that :)
Can you please explain solo mode :)?
I'm afraid not. Solo mode rules are still work in progress.
Thanks for the answer, I do have 2 questions: 1. What actions can I do if I visit the closed businesses ( using key)? 2. Can I have more than one extra action disc on my playboard?
1. If the business is closed, you need a key to visit it. If you do, you just do the same as you would normally (place a cube, get a card). And yes, you can have more than one extra action disc :)
We really need a complete 4 player playthrough in order to get a good view on the speed, AP, interaction, please, please, please ....
I'd be more than happy to film one of these if I have the time, but that wont be for a few months. I do have a sort of playthrough of it on my channel (check out rules testing)

wow. and I thought The Gallerist was heavy. lol
This game is lighter than the Gallerist :)
Never would have thought this based on the video, which by the way, was great, thorough, and very thought out.
Thanks. Yeah, this is a new approach for me, I spend longer on the video trying to explain how the different parts connect, more examples, etc. But yeah, Vital says it is lighter, and everyone who I have played it with agree that it is the "lightest" of his heavy games.
Do you think you might re-visit games you've already done a video for with this format? *Cough* Kanban *cough*
Barrels of wine normally slow me down.
lol
Who is Vinnie??
wait so let me get this straight, if i replace something i gain a notoriety? 95% sure thats how it works.
Yep. And I know I said that a LOT in the video. Whenever you replace a contact card or a tile on your board, you gain 1 notoriety.
Wait...this is lighter than his other games? On what planet?
Ceti Alpha V?
lol. Looks lighter than Vinhos to me. Looks heavier than Kanban though. This one seems to give players much more choice on how to go about things which I like so maybe the depth is going to mask the difference in struggles like in Vinhos (with money particularly)... I play this game on Saturday so can report back if you comment and remind me. I have not played Lisboa yet but hope to soon. I will have played all his other games on Saturday afternoon (EP my first time).
A player who recently rob a bank goes first, um....
Sigh. Another incredibly fiddly half hour set up. I am watching ONLY the personal player board set up, and I think “okay, that must be the last of the pieces you need to add...no, there’s more, and more, and more.” Just kills any enthusiasm I had for the theme.
All of Vital's games have lots of pieces and a long setup. It's the nature of the beast.
In this game do people steal your identity and phones phone numbers go in to your house because they never gave back a key. Dough coyn and Laura falco she did pop in the entire time letting frank. Honestly, not a huge fan of this game. =\ Great video, though, thank you for being one of the few people to cover the how-to-play of Escape Plan.
Tons of fun, to be sure, but way, way too many components. Things get lost or damaged over time (especially when food and drink are involved), and this game quickly becomes unplayable if enough pieces go missing. The fact that a 45-minute video is required to fully explain also says plenty about how approachable it is. When there's TOO much to do, you end up feeling like you don't know what to do (like having too many clothes and not knowing what to wear, or having too many books and not knowing which one to read).
Also, rules are unnecessarily restrictive. You are assigned an escape plan and must follow it. You can only escape from one exit, and only on day three--not to mention that exit is chosen by random chance. This is an RPG at its core, and all RPGs should give the player goals and the freedom to achieve those goals as the player wishes.
It could have been great, but the developers tried too hard and caved it in on themselves IMO.
Compared to my previous videos, this is longer, even though the game is lighter than Vital's other titles. This is not a reflection on how complex the game is, just my different approach to teaching it where I go into more detail.
The length of this video was just one of many reasons that contributed to my overall opinion of the game. I am completely new to this channel, so I have no idea how this video might compare to any of your other videos.
No worries. I covered two of his previous games (Vinhos and Lisboa), which are heavier and more complex games. Those videos were under 30 mins, but... as I have "evolved", I have started to change my approach and rather than just dump rules on people, to try and give the rules context, with more examples, then reminders of key things at various points. I'm much happier with this approach as I feel it makes it much clearer, but it does mean a longer video, and more time to film and edit :)
Regarding components, pretty much every board game outside of Too Many Bones have damage risks from frequent plays or if food/drinks are involved, so I don't see how that really is a negative. Plus in the unboxing video I've seen, there are actually extra components in case any are lost. Don't see many games companies doing that these days.
I also don't see the rules being unnecessarily restrictive. Think of your character coming up with an Escape Plan at the start of the game and trying to stick to that plan. If players had the freedom to create their own plans though I think it would make the game unnecessarily longer by adding this step, although it could be a fun variant. And of course you can only escape from one exit because the cops are shutting everything down. If you could choose to escape from any of the exits then it would cut down on the tension.
RE components get some card sleeves. The disks and cubes can be replaced ;)
Only three rounds and 15 total turns? OK I won't play that game. Same reason purged Vinhos after half a play.
It's your choice, but that seems an odd reason. Why must a game have lots of rounds and many turns?
Gaming Rules! I don't prefer games which condense my choices down to so few per game. I never have "fun" with that type of tension. Just personal taste.
@@justinrrizzo Games with set limits are generally better because they don't drag on forever and wear out their welcome.
Thanks for the tip this is what dough coyn and Lara falco and the rest of the ones using the game to really steal from Matthew Novakoski 🦸♂️🐻💯👮♀️🇺🇸I have rights dough coyn just like my mom lauraine baxter did at Abington hospital back in 2220 dough coyn Laura falco and Barbra reddings
