Feudum I understand why the tutorial would confuse some people, but I think I've got it down. I would really love to see a full play through though (Perhaps in Tabletop style? They usually show the most exciting bits and add some rule clarifications during the game.) I haven't backed Feudum yet, but I'm very tempted! Keep up the good work!
At 22:10 it says that the master of the guild takes the odd number to himself/herself and the journeyman takes the rest, but the video shows the Master receiving 2s and the journeyman 1s. Who receives the odd number then?
Fred Allean The Guild Master splits the shillings with the Journeyman. If there is an odd (extra) shilling, the Guild Master takes it. In the video, there were three shillings that they had to split. They both took 1 shilling, and then the guild master took the extra. So, ultimately the guild master received a total if two shillings, and the journeyman one shilling.
I found myself with the background song stuck in my head all day yesterday. The videos are all great, but that little melody matches the whimsy of the game.
I had a board game weekend with some friends. A group sat in a table and started learnnig this, and I sat in a different one learning another game (ERA). The time it took my table to learn the game and do a complete play through, they only finished explaining the first part of the game.
Starting a monthly game night with some people who enjoy heavy and confrontational games specifically cause i want to play this beast more. Love the aesthetic and all the interwoven mechanisms! One of the best looking games in my collection!
I doubt anyone will be able to play right after seeing this -way too fast- video, but still, it's awesome when we need to check if we didn't miss anything while learning the game. This made me realize that a monster *pins* a pawn, and not only *blocks* a *road* (forcing other pawns to use another road) like I thought. Thanks for this awesome production work !
Thank you for the kind words, cho 7kipu! Yes, monsters are costly (in terms of sacrificed influence markers) but can definitely create trouble for other players.
I really love the art and the thought that went in to this, I can tell u ate really passionate about this (also this is the best "set up and how to play" video ever)
Received my copy the other day and we broke it out last night just to check out the gorgeous artwork. We'll study the game today and then the three of us will play tomorrow night...very excited!
I just re-watched this video, now with the full knowledge of having read the rules and watched the Heavy Cardboard Play-through/Teach. I feel very well equipped now to get start playing this game with minimal hiccups. Very excited to get my copy and start playing this game. Also, every time I watch the video, I'm just in awe and so impressed by how well thought-out the production and execution of this game/Kickstarter was by the first-time designer, Mark Swanson. WOW. Amazing.
I just wanted to tell you I really appreciate that you took time to caption your video as a deaf person. If I had more money I definitely would back this game but alas I have to be more careful seeing that I'm not employed. If this game had a solo variant I'd definitely back it although! I understand that you are working on it?
Hi Michael. I am exploring a solo variant with JR Honeycutt (did the solo variant for Tesla vs. Edison). In fact, I'll be hanging out with him next week....so, stay tuned. : )
Hello @Tyvan TV, the game will ship to retailers in October if all goes well! Now that the Kickstarter campaign is over, you may preorder the game at full MSRP here: feudum.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders HOWEVER, you may also wait until the summer when the solo variant: Feudum: The Queen's Army will launch on Kickstarter. Rumor has it, there will be some special campaign bundles. : )
I love complex games like this. And the art on the cards looks great. But I'll never understand why designers choose to use symbols that nobody can read. Forcing everyone to read the rules for every move the first couple games. Instead of just saying what the card does.
Additionally, localisation reasons. Very costly to change every card in the game. Easier to use symbols and then you only have to translate the main rulebook.
The next edition of the rule book (whenever that happens) should literally point to this YT video. We spent maybe 2 hours reading the rule book and not understanding much, found this video, watched it at 1.5x speed and were much better off.
@@oddbirdgames No thanks for making the game. We finally got through our second game last night and it really is great, perhaps it's only weakness is the time to playing/feeling comfortable. I play with a lot of first time/casual gamers. I'm coming up with a way in my head right now to have alternate tutorial rules that strip away the guilds entirely so they can practice with just the cards, which can get complicated enough (it is ~11 pages). Obviously not as a full game, but as an introduction.
@@aaronchamberlain4698 Thanks for your kind words. When I teach the game, I merely give a brief overview of the push/pull and trade functions of the guilds (spending a little more time on the Alchemist and Farmer Guilds as they work a little different than the others). Once players generally understand that they may play the Guild action to score immediate points or to acquire resources, then the reference card can point out the details when they are ready.
@A K, Yes you can. Having a knight or two in play earns you status, and therefore membership in the knight guild, for example. That said, it is wiser to have multiple characters in play to gain access into different guilds to maximize points.
It certainly looks too heavy when you first look at it. However, it's really just a bunch of simple ideas. Each card it easy to explain, and you will find you use some a lot more than others. It's just daunting when you have so many little things haha. Definitely a game that will benifit from many plays 😂
If an attack fails, NOTHING happens. An attack MUST be successful to remove the opponent's pawn from the board and cover the military service track with a player disc.

Watching that felt like reading God's exhaustive textbook on the physics of things that mortals cannot comprehend. So I backed it.
If you watch a few play-throughs that are on the net, it will seem far less daunting. : )
I still have no idea how to play the game, but at least now I know for SURE that I want it.

The most amazing rules teach video I've ever seen. Thank you for this, setting up solo against the queen's army to learn it

probably still reading the rules
It's exceptionally good. I'm now working with Bruce Monson on a very crunchy Solo Variant
Thanks for investing in such a killer rules video. It could not have been cheap. But it is one of the best damn explainers ever, tops even FFG videos
Thanks toasToaTs! A former student of mine named Stephen created this for me.
The narrator’s voice made me think it was a Stanley Parable video at first. It feels like something they’d do.
Is this kingdom named dunshire?
Absolutely superb video. Well done!
Incredibly complex, this is very very cool
Looks and sounds so awesome. Although the rules seems like they will require more than a few run throughs to get completely right😊

Very well produced video good job
Holy shit. This interests me but there are not enough rules. Not complex enough.
Roland Bruno sarcasm detected
Needless to say that this the most demanding set up ever!!! But who cares.....its an instant buy!!!!
I love complex games like this. And the art on the cards looks great. But I'll never understand why designers choose to use symbols that nobody can read. Forcing everyone to read the rules for every move the first couple games. Instead of just saying what the card does.
It saves space on the card and makes the card easier to remember once everyone understands the symbols.
Also the player aids in the game say what each card does which is super handy
Additionally, localisation reasons. Very costly to change every card in the game. Easier to use symbols and then you only have to translate the main rulebook.
My brain melted...in a good way!
Thank you for the italian subtitle 👍🏼🍀🎉
I have watched this video upwards of 20+ times. I do not know how to play Feudum.
