    Okay no joke, last year my dad and I were standing by this tall girl and she looked like she could have been a basketball player... Later that night we found out we were standing by her, Nneka, a WNBA all-star. So lets just say I'm a little bit salty that I didn't get to have a conversation with her or at least an autograph xD

    Crowd and fatigue makes a big difference. Dwight Howard they say easily can go 28/30 in practice, he can make them with his eyes closed at times. When I practiced FTs, I would only do it after I did some running, a fast break drill, etc. that would get me out of breath to simulate what it's like in a real game. In reality, you're going to the FT line after running up and down, you're exhausted, and some guy just smacked you across the face.

    The reason why people In the NBA miss their shots Is because there constantly getting rushed and chased not a lot of time to concentrate.

    Of course you could do better than those big men. They have to deal with crowd noise, pressure, AND fatigue. When they're just shooting around they could shoot EXTREMELY well.

    • @franklinchoi6831
      @franklinchoi6831 8 років тому +6

      +UA-cam'sBest it's true though..kinda. Some people perform worse under pressure.

    • @chrisliowknicksfan
      @chrisliowknicksfan 8 років тому +39

      This is 100% the reason why big men traditionally can't shoot well. There are always some exceptions, but keep in mind that Yao (probably one of the best shooting big men in recent history) had tiny hands. Dirk's hands are actually quite small too. Reputable coaches and trainers openly acknowledge the factor of having hands way bigger than the ball affecting your ability to shoot consistently...if anyone thinks this is overblown, try shooting free throws with a toy sized ball and notice how hard it is getting any consistent backspin while still being able to launch it 15+ feet.

    • @karhammer
      @karhammer 8 років тому

      Some times pressure makes you go all out and have a better preformance overall, if you know to crontrol how much pressure you feel, you can even achive a greater state of focus

    • @erick4923
      @erick4923 8 років тому +4

      No. 25,000 screaming fans yelling at you AND a complete lack of depth perception in an arena where the lights are blasted onto the court on top of real pressure to make it. Nobody shoots better in a game than in practive. NOBODY.

    • @karhammer
      @karhammer 8 років тому

      Erick Rikard I didn't say "better than in practice" just said thay pressure is not always bad... and in some cases it can help you focus when you are kinda lost

    This was an interesting experiment. I don't feel 30 days is long enough to practice to beat a professional has a natural talent in a sport and has been practising for years though. I think a big factor professionals choke is the adrenaline at the time, the match atmosphere, and above all else, all the pressure that can be sometimes.

      +MarkedOne yea dude no one squares there feet anymore in 2015. It make a rigid shot when people force people to square there feet. Even dirk who was taught to squaw his feet has this natural turn. Turning isn't necessarily much better. Buts it's much more natural. Westbrook squares his feet a lot and usually has a rigid shot. Curry, durant, melo and Korver all turn their body slightly towards the basket on their shots. It's a much preferred shot especially because it lets you keep your elbow in towards your body.

    This is actually a really interesting video.Steven's misses with the shooting coach are better than that initial make he had. You can see his arc improve as the coach makes the minor tweaks. Important lesson, there is a wrong way a basketball can go in the hoop.
    The way Steven FT% seems to go up and down, but then steadily increases is a reminder that not all improvement is linear.
    Also, being able to hit FT's consistently is a skill. In the context of a game where it's lots of action, to suddenly come to a focused state of mind and hit them is not as easy as it sounds.

    that coach said "but did it go in the right way" cmon now, there aint no right way. theres a textbook way, a comfortable way, and a "lets try my luck" way. 1:30 this man also taught him "above your waist" most people I've seen shoot from hip, waist area. I know I do. You don't bend your knees then bring the ball up, you bend your knees at the same time you're bringing the ball up. EVERY great shooter dips the ball
    Freethrows should be one motion and fluid. If you bend your knees then bring it up, that puts emphasis on your knees which can cause inconsistency in how much you bend them which will change your arc and where/when you release from your set point. If you dip it/bend your knees at the same time you bring the ball up, that makes your shot more fluid and the rate of which you do it should be the guide for how much you bend your knees.
    NO GREAT SHOOTER PUTS EMPHASIS ON THEIR KNEES. THEY PUT EMPHASIS ON THEIR LIFT, THERES A DIFFERENCE. WHAT IS THIS THE 1950s??
    He also said Square your feet up. 1:05
    WTF. SHOOTERS TURN WHEN THEY SHOOT. THEY SHOOT AT AN ANGLE. Therefore, when they shoot free throws, their dominant leg always goes in front of your other foot to keep consistency in accordance to their actual jumper.
    His form was better before he met the coach, all he needed was practice. I mean, he said he already studied's KD's shot and stuff
    I JUST HATE when coaches tell people the wrong things.
    0:48 NOTHING he told him steph curry does btw.

    The reason its hard for big men to shoot free throws is because its like shooting an orange. into a cup. Their hands are so big and they are so strong they cant shoot with finesse. Imagine you hard being able to just easily grab the ball with one hand also its so hard to shot with proper arc since they are so tall.

      This is just utterly false.
      two of the biggest hands that have been in the NBA : Michael Jordan and more recently Kawhi Leonard and both are over 80% from the stripe.
      The reason some big guys tend to be so miserable at the line is because their upper body are too tense when they shoot they practiced "power moves" their whole life because they could rely on that and never learnt how to properly shoot, then its really hard to lose habits you had your whole life.
      So its mechanic, not hands that are the cause.

      Pixel 's it is also a huge mistake to think that a taller person does not have a significant advantage over someone shorter in basketball.
      It's just like a weak man with martial arts knowledge vs a strong man with little or no martial arts knowledge.
      Yes, the smaller guy has the knowledge and skill, but the sheer strength of the other guy can really ruin everything for him regardless of his skill.
      Some people try to treat basketball as if it is a sport where everyone is equal and has equal oppurtunities when that is just not the case.
      Just like real life, we dont all have equal oppurtunities and we all have to accept the truth for what it is, not what we want it to be.

    • @RioluAuraSphere
      @RioluAuraSphere 8 років тому

      And the fact most nba players aren't nba players because of their free throws makes this experiment not worth while. Shaq and Dwight Howard excel in their athleticism as big men to dominate in the post, they're not in need to focus on shooting. Their points come off lay ups and dunks, and the rest of the time they're on the court is from helping set up plays and again defence
