Okay no joke, last year my dad and I were standing by this tall girl and she looked like she could have been a basketball player... Later that night we found out we were standing by her, Nneka, a WNBA all-star. So lets just say I'm a little bit salty that I didn't get to have a conversation with her or at least an autograph xD
+Juve 31 Foreal. She's still human; I don't get why people get so hyped over other humans. If Chris Brown wasn't famous peeps would see him and roll on by.
I prefer "Practice makes permanent" if you practice something wrong all the time, you'll always do the wrong thing. Same with if you practice something right.
+Jorge Morales Because for certain things in life you need to try and improve to be as close to perfect as you can be for your own advantages or others.
Crowd and fatigue makes a big difference. Dwight Howard they say easily can go 28/30 in practice, he can make them with his eyes closed at times. When I practiced FTs, I would only do it after I did some running, a fast break drill, etc. that would get me out of breath to simulate what it's like in a real game. In reality, you're going to the FT line after running up and down, you're exhausted, and some guy just smacked you across the face.
Of course you could do better than those big men. They have to deal with crowd noise, pressure, AND fatigue. When they're just shooting around they could shoot EXTREMELY well.
This is 100% the reason why big men traditionally can't shoot well. There are always some exceptions, but keep in mind that Yao (probably one of the best shooting big men in recent history) had tiny hands. Dirk's hands are actually quite small too. Reputable coaches and trainers openly acknowledge the factor of having hands way bigger than the ball affecting your ability to shoot consistently...if anyone thinks this is overblown, try shooting free throws with a toy sized ball and notice how hard it is getting any consistent backspin while still being able to launch it 15+ feet.
Some times pressure makes you go all out and have a better preformance overall, if you know to crontrol how much pressure you feel, you can even achive a greater state of focus
No. 25,000 screaming fans yelling at you AND a complete lack of depth perception in an arena where the lights are blasted onto the court on top of real pressure to make it. Nobody shoots better in a game than in practive. NOBODY.
Erick Rikard I didn't say "better than in practice" just said thay pressure is not always bad... and in some cases it can help you focus when you are kinda lost
This was an interesting experiment. I don't feel 30 days is long enough to practice to beat a professional has a natural talent in a sport and has been practising for years though. I think a big factor professionals choke is the adrenaline at the time, the match atmosphere, and above all else, all the pressure that can be sometimes.
That "shooting coach" completely fucked his shot up. It was actually pretty good at first he just needed reps and practice. Check out pro shot shooting system on UA-cam to see how actual pros shoot.
+MarkedOne yea dude no one squares there feet anymore in 2015. It make a rigid shot when people force people to square there feet. Even dirk who was taught to squaw his feet has this natural turn. Turning isn't necessarily much better. Buts it's much more natural. Westbrook squares his feet a lot and usually has a rigid shot. Curry, durant, melo and Korver all turn their body slightly towards the basket on their shots. It's a much preferred shot especially because it lets you keep your elbow in towards your body.
This is actually a really interesting video.Steven's misses with the shooting coach are better than that initial make he had. You can see his arc improve as the coach makes the minor tweaks. Important lesson, there is a wrong way a basketball can go in the hoop. The way Steven FT% seems to go up and down, but then steadily increases is a reminder that not all improvement is linear. Also, being able to hit FT's consistently is a skill. In the context of a game where it's lots of action, to suddenly come to a focused state of mind and hit them is not as easy as it sounds.
there's a lot more to it that just shooting the ball, they're running constantly so fatigue is a factor, pressure from the crowd, pressure from the score and mental pressure, just shooting the ball still isn't equal to what they go through
that coach said "but did it go in the right way" cmon now, there aint no right way. theres a textbook way, a comfortable way, and a "lets try my luck" way. 1:30 this man also taught him "above your waist" most people I've seen shoot from hip, waist area. I know I do. You don't bend your knees then bring the ball up, you bend your knees at the same time you're bringing the ball up. EVERY great shooter dips the ball Freethrows should be one motion and fluid. If you bend your knees then bring it up, that puts emphasis on your knees which can cause inconsistency in how much you bend them which will change your arc and where/when you release from your set point. If you dip it/bend your knees at the same time you bring the ball up, that makes your shot more fluid and the rate of which you do it should be the guide for how much you bend your knees. NO GREAT SHOOTER PUTS EMPHASIS ON THEIR KNEES. THEY PUT EMPHASIS ON THEIR LIFT, THERES A DIFFERENCE. WHAT IS THIS THE 1950s?? He also said Square your feet up. 1:05 WTF. SHOOTERS TURN WHEN THEY SHOOT. THEY SHOOT AT AN ANGLE. Therefore, when they shoot free throws, their dominant leg always goes in front of your other foot to keep consistency in accordance to their actual jumper. His form was better before he met the coach, all he needed was practice. I mean, he said he already studied's KD's shot and stuff I JUST HATE when coaches tell people the wrong things. 0:48 NOTHING he told him steph curry does btw.
+Zikora Agbapu you are right, he did say greater. all these people saying he said gooder, are just getting that from previous comments and believing it, when you actual listen to it he says GREATER
Even if you practice for a year, you still wouldn't beat DeAndre Jordan/Dwight Howard in free throw in practice. In practice every pro basketball player can shoot.
FaNNed1219 wasn't she n1 draft pick in wnba? I'm pretty sure she's better than the "worst player in the nba" (although I don't profess to be an expert in these subjects.) Also, she made 7/10 free throws, which is a lot better than some NBA players.
SUZUKIRYDER1 we're talking penalties and other stuff. Anything that gets you a free free throw in game. Even when players get this free shot, without anyone guarding it, they still tend to miss quite a bit.
Those NBA players don't shoot free throws with a good percentage because they are mainly centers and power forwards, so they don't practice free throws and they practice getting into the paint and being powerful.
The reason its hard for big men to shoot free throws is because its like shooting an orange. into a cup. Their hands are so big and they are so strong they cant shoot with finesse. Imagine you hard being able to just easily grab the ball with one hand also its so hard to shot with proper arc since they are so tall.
+RJ. This is just utterly false. two of the biggest hands that have been in the NBA : Michael Jordan and more recently Kawhi Leonard and both are over 80% from the stripe. The reason some big guys tend to be so miserable at the line is because their upper body are too tense when they shoot they practiced "power moves" their whole life because they could rely on that and never learnt how to properly shoot, then its really hard to lose habits you had your whole life. So its mechanic, not hands that are the cause.
+Son Goku pff race/color of your skin orgin has nothing to do with being a great shooter. Either you have it or you don't. Just work for it. If not get off the court. Simply put.
when people dont say names right.😑 Though I'm not blaming him. Ijust want to correct him. Soo if anyone was wondering, it spelt Nneka and people mostly say neck-a. Like he did. but it is actually said. In-nair-ka. 😊
+Nikki Ani she seems to answer to neck-a just fine though and I've never heard of her correcting anyone during 4 years at Stanford and LA. Normally if an athlete wants people to say their name right the commentators will explain how to say it properly during the games when everyone is watching/listening
Pixel 's it is also a huge mistake to think that a taller person does not have a significant advantage over someone shorter in basketball. It's just like a weak man with martial arts knowledge vs a strong man with little or no martial arts knowledge. Yes, the smaller guy has the knowledge and skill, but the sheer strength of the other guy can really ruin everything for him regardless of his skill. Some people try to treat basketball as if it is a sport where everyone is equal and has equal oppurtunities when that is just not the case. Just like real life, we dont all have equal oppurtunities and we all have to accept the truth for what it is, not what we want it to be.
+The Sun there are 5 different positions in the game so height doesnt matter unless you are too small to guard your own position otherwise its all about your skill level at the position you are supposed to play with your born height a 6-10 guy has no advantage over a 6 foot guy because it is a team game stop spreading nonsense
he forgetting to factor in 1) a stadium fun of fan cheering 2) motivation to playing the game night after night 3) energy from running up and down the court playing offense and defense. how the hell can he run a control experiment without setting the same conditions that NBA/WNBA players go through
And the fact most nba players aren't nba players because of their free throws makes this experiment not worth while. Shaq and Dwight Howard excel in their athleticism as big men to dominate in the post, they're not in need to focus on shooting. Their points come off lay ups and dunks, and the rest of the time they're on the court is from helping set up plays and again defence
+wrkN u think I'm joking. 2 sets of 150, one in the morning, one in the evening. I can only get 150 in if it's too hot or the weather doesn't hold up though
Okay no joke, last year my dad and I were standing by this tall girl and she looked like she could have been a basketball player... Later that night we found out we were standing by her, Nneka, a WNBA all-star. So lets just say I'm a little bit salty that I didn't get to have a conversation with her or at least an autograph xD
lol my mom met a doctor who she thought looked familiar. A few days later we saw him on a TV commercial...he was kinda famous lol
Aww unlucky, lmao if I had any luck I'd probably only get a youtuber to reply to me 😂😂
right haha... it's just women's sports. don't make it out to seem like she's famous or anything lol.
The homie met slim jesus
+Juve 31 Foreal. She's still human; I don't get why people get so hyped over other humans. If Chris Brown wasn't famous peeps would see him and roll on by.

That was ruthless.
My coach always said "practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect."
I prefer "Practice makes permanent" if you practice something wrong all the time, you'll always do the wrong thing. Same with if you practice something right.
But nobody's perfect so why practice :D
+Jorge Morales Because for certain things in life you need to try and improve to be as close to perfect as you can be for your own advantages or others.
I prefer "Perfect practice makes perfect perfect"
+D3liicatee practice doesn't make perfect practice makes better
doesn't sound good but it makes more sense.
Crowd and fatigue makes a big difference. Dwight Howard they say easily can go 28/30 in practice, he can make them with his eyes closed at times. tru
Well said.
True but he is shooting 100 freethrows in a row (im assuming) so that last 40 is gonna be hard.
Good point
I never thought about it like this, thanks.
The reason why people In the NBA miss their shots Is because there constantly getting rushed and chased not a lot of time to concentrate.
Also they're physically getting hit prior to shooting their free throws
But he is talking about free throws
He showed free throw %
+Oliver Meraz dwight howard can shoot 80% from the line in practice
And the people behind the net are really distracting too
1:47 Do you think I can be in NBA

Of course you could do better than those big men. They have to deal with crowd noise, pressure, AND fatigue. When they're just shooting around they could shoot EXTREMELY well.

You expected to be at the pro level after just 1 month?
+Rawk4Life It's not like your playing one on one. Its just free throws
You think he would have a pro level shot because he practiced for a month? Fucking imbecile
+Christian stine Well he got pretty close so I don't know why you're so upset. Score was 7-9..
He only practiced free throws. Pros couldn't care less about free throws
+Sachin Nair uhhhh.... yes they can
its because they're under ALOT of pressure when they do a free throw
No it's because their hands are so large that it makes their shooting clumsier and harder.
They don't practise shooting because their needed in the paint, for rebounds and dunks.
+SgtCorbis u no nothing about basket ball there hands have nothing to do with it or does the pressure help them

5:40 “I definitely have a much gooder appreciation”. I don’t think that gooder is a word lmao
Im fairly sure you misheard him
He mumbled “greater”. Did indeed sound like “gooder”.
Now, it becomes a word. As long as you can understand.

That's a great line.
That "shooting coach" completely fucked his shot up. It was actually pretty good at first he just needed reps and practice. Check out pro shot shooting system on UA-cam to see how actual pros shoot.

Grammar/Spelling Police she would be crushed by the worst player in the nba easily
Grammar/Spelling Police but compared to pretty much any nba player she sucks
FaNNed1219 wasn't she n1 draft pick in wnba? I'm pretty sure she's better than the "worst player in the nba" (although I don't profess to be an expert in these subjects.) Also, she made 7/10 free throws, which is a lot better than some NBA players.
"Do you think I could be in the NBA?" ... "No."
I wouldn’t consider a WNBA player a “pro basketball player” but whatever floats your boat.
XD cmon bruh :(
In game free throws are killer, everyone against you, your legs are exhausted from all the defensive slides, and you just can't choke
SUZUKIRYDER1 we're talking penalties and other stuff. Anything that gets you a free free throw in game. Even when players get this free shot, without anyone guarding it, they still tend to miss quite a bit.
Also it's harder to shoot in a game because it makes you tense and nerves especially in away games and the cheering so shooting alone is alot easier
suicide is fun tru dat
chris Hanson Then how come not everyone is like that? Are taller people around 7 foot naturally terrified in crowds?
When i play my high school league i feel almost the same as when i practice.Even with crowd distracting me,there are no excuses for not practicing.
AND 100 SHOOTS NOT ALOT I PLAYED VARSITY HS MY PRACTICE WAS 1000 SHOTS A DAY
Alexander The Turtle height is not the link- weight is. Correlation between weight and three throw percentage is higher than height and ft %.
he trained for 30 days she trained her whole life
Those NBA players don't shoot free throws with a good percentage because they are mainly centers and power forwards, so they don't practice free throws and they practice getting into the paint and being powerful.
Then there is Midorima.
hahahhahaha
They've got nothing on the Generation of Miracles lol
Ahahaha and DA ZONE
Hahah knb too lol
Dangit, you beat me to it.
This is really interesting- I like those kind of videos
The reason its hard for big men to shoot free throws is because its like shooting an orange. into a cup. Their hands are so big and they are so strong they cant shoot with finesse. Imagine you hard being able to just easily grab the ball with one hand also its so hard to shot with proper arc since they are so tall.
Plus most do not shoot a lot of jumpers so it's hard for them to be used to their shooting mechanic
+RJ. ummmmm wrong LMAO Kawhi Leonard is great at shooting free throws
Simply put.
Would you rather get 3 dollars or have your favorite WNBA team win the next 5 finals
5 finals for sure
3 dollars what even is Chicago’s WNBA team
WNBA finals , so I could bet on them and get more money
3 dollars
James Shaw Chicago sky
"Much gooder" These are the talented reporters hired at Buzzfeed.
Nope. He said greater, just really muffled and slurred.
+Fun Facts no he didn't 😂 listen to it
alex c Please relisten. :D
when people dont say names right.😑 Though I'm not blaming him. Ijust want to correct him. Soo if anyone was wondering, it spelt Nneka and people mostly say neck-a. Like he did. but it is actually said. In-nair-ka. 😊
Its Nigerian Igbo...Its pronounced. In-Neir-Ca
Neir like Hair
Ca-Like Car but no r and the C is forceful
+Nikki Ani she seems to answer to neck-a just fine though and I've never heard of her correcting anyone during 4 years at Stanford and LA. Normally if an athlete wants people to say their name right the commentators will explain how to say it properly during the games when everyone is watching/listening
+Jake Farquharson was there really any need to be mean. if you didn't care , you didn't have to comment. so dont make people upset for no reason.😊
+Jake Farquharson its okay
its the american/English pronyunciation. If you know a guy named Michael from Germany you ain't gonna say meek- ai-el
Do you think I can be NBA player?
No😅!!!
When he said “can you dunk” i completely lost it 😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂
the wnba really needs to end since theyre only losing money...but the problem is that it would sexist if the did end it lol
Its not t sexist
+Michael Angus true but then feminists would say it is
i think i would be happier if i found 5 dollars on the floor than if my local wnba team won a championship.
+pcelis19 the Minnesota lynx have won some championships but I don't really care😂😂
Right! Maya Moore makes only 65,000. Iman shumpert makes 8.5 mil
Spend 30 days practicing dunking lol
Then see if you could beat a 7ft basketball player
Ahh basketball, the sport where you're born to be good
Im taller then everyone at my school, yet i dont bother with basketball
This is such a huge mistake to think you can be good at basketball just because you're tall.
The Sun Dude... little guys are usually quicker and faster, it makes a fucking difference, do you even watch Basketball?
"much gooder"...
I knew someone would say this lol
+Haley Banker exactly
he said "much greater" lol
Francis Delamerced he said much gooder buddy
+PRO4LYF3GAMING he said much greater, you're fucking deaf
1:46 I'm dying. HES SUCH A DREAM CRUSHER XD
he forgetting to factor in 1) a stadium fun of fan cheering 2) motivation to playing the game night after night 3) energy from running up and down the court playing offense and defense. how the hell can he run a control experiment without setting the same conditions that NBA/WNBA players go through
And the fact most nba players aren't nba players because of their free throws makes this experiment not worth while. Shaq and Dwight Howard excel in their athleticism as big men to dominate in the post, they're not in need to focus on shooting. Their points come off lay ups and dunks, and the rest of the time they're on the court is from helping set up plays and again defence
OK, he did not say "gooder" he said "greater" all of you guys must be deaf
He clearly said greater these people trippin
+harvardyale1 ikr!
he said grudder
Apparently you're dead because when he says gooder it doesn't sound like greater in the slightest
Shut up
“Do you think I can be in the NBA” “No” LMAO 😂 😂😂
this video took a whole month to make...
baseball the doge yup
or not
this would be super entertaining for an alien who had never seen basketball before or otherwise didnt understand how the game works.
So, how was it?
+Boon Joshstra Pretty good
bruh I'm doin 300 a day for the whole summer
sure
+wrkN u think I'm joking. 2 sets of 150, one in the morning, one in the evening. I can only get 150 in if it's too hot or the weather doesn't hold up though
shouldnt it be a lot better to take jumpshots from different spots tho
+wrkN I'm an inconsistent shooter do in doing it to get my form in muscle memory
+MCatwar id suggest 150 free throws, and 150 jump shots around the key
A trainer and a psychologist to throw free throws?? Wtfff
I dont imagine what he would do to play a normal game
The pressure on the moment probably adds to it
Looked for this comment! Totaly agreed, a lot of People dosen't Think about it. And plus, they're probably Also exhausted.

Wtf gooder!?
• T•S•S•M•V • do u need fucking hearing aids he said greater
It's also a lot easier to shoot free throws when you're practising or you're alone than it in in an actual game
