I still find the live steams hard to watch but he still knocks out great content and he's got to make a living. I was massively impressed with the way he stood up to Guy from Midwinter Minis with that terrible gaslighting videos where he basically called us all BA players Nazis. Especially as Tim was getting shit from guys mates like Miky from hellstorm war gaming.
Competitively it's a tricky one, I'd say even a super heavy gun can struggle to pick up enough to make back the insane amount of points. I never faced one but I've a mate who runs a veteran Panther all the time, it's manageable if you stick your guys in heavy cover and hit the rest of the German list as hard as possible. I'd recommend higher point games for tanks like this, then everyone gets to run their big toys without compromising the rest of their lists. There was a BA podcast where a TO in Australia was running a 1500pt single platoon tournament, the king Tiger would be 10/10 in those conditions.
I recently played a game with an American Airborne player, I brought the stupid vehicle of the Maus for 580pts. utterly ridiculous, only scored two hits with it the entire game but I managed a win in the last turn of the game just barely. really fun and hilarious to bring a model where the movement speed is less than the size of the model itself.
If you're bring assault guns then no. I don't get the volksgrenadier thing. I've tried it a comple of times. Lost hard. Equipping conscripts with SMGs and assault rifles is such a waste. Although I probably need that one game when everything comes up millhouse and I get some cheap vets and I'll be converted.
Played it with my little brother, he had a firefly and t34 first round took out my track. Spent that whole game basically trying to keep his tanks in my line of sight with my infantry so I didn’t just get wiped. super fun lolll
Definitely man, once the shock value wears off suddenly that one PAIT turns into a 17 pounder and everyones running assault engineers in transports it's going to be marked for death. Competitively the big assult guns are much better at 1000pts, heavy armour, pie shaped templates, and they only run about 380 to 400 points. In my opinion the points are fair, it's just too much tank for 1000pt games. On the BA reddit forum in seems that higher point games are very common, loads of groups like to run 1250 points with a 14 dice cap.
It's kinda funny how we as wargaming fans, instead of viewing it as the waste it was, like good lord this thing was absurd and just another German excess super tank. But it's so adorably boxy and big we justify it to exist 🤣
You're gonna miss minimum half the shots you take. Then the shots you do hit need to actually do something. You're gonna spend 555-666 points to potentially deal damage to something one-two times. The hit system in Bolt Action is flawed to the point where only certain break-point vehicles or min-max is actually worth taking if you want to do something positive. Otherwise anything "fun" like this is operating under a sequence of coin flips for 6 turns. My group implements a veterancy impact on hit rolls. Vets hit on a 2+. Regs on a 3+, Inexperienced on a 4+. This makes the impact of veteran troops and tanks greater. and the impact of inexperienced troops and tanks lesser. Give it a try if you aren't a rules purist and a King Tiger might actually be worth taking.
Universal rule a bolt about tanks, the worse the piece was in real life the better it is in game. Look at the daka stuart. 23 machineguns shots for 170pts!
The tank itself, from a 'killing machine' perspective, was a brute. It was by far the most feared tank of WWII. Had the Germans put the right engine in it, instead of the underpowered piece of crap it had, and put veteran crews on board, it would have been off the chart.

I've seen a tiger bounce multiple shots and miss all of its shots/roll a one for pen. It just sat there taking up half the board for most of the game.
