Yep, nen curses are especially brutal because most of them are post mortem nen, and when the original user dies the nen usually increases in potency, and nen is based off of emotion, the more hate the curse user has for the person the stronger the nen. With people like kurapika, in particular, his nen curse is abnormally strong because of its limitations.

@axisboise abengane can remove any kind of technique even from a dead man, it just increases the size of the thing by the amount of "measured power" the curse has, which would probably kill him given the size even a small nen curse did.

He was the first to notice that his earlier briefing was actually instructions on how to "defuse" his remote bomb ability, which he had to create a nen beast that will take the blow fully without damaging him. At first, I didn't know him by name, but once I looked up his name, I was like, "Ooooooh!! It's the guy that said 'I caught the bomber' in the Raiden outfit toward the end of Greed Island." After that, I just said, "Yeah, this makes sense." Plus, he is 1 of few Jyonen specialists (nen exorcists), and nen exorcists are VERY few and far in between in HxH.
I think people were surprised because his screentime is rather minor and while he does have a very niche nen ability, he's not put in the light of someone particularly powerful.
Ultimate =/= strongest Togashi said that his tier rankings (great, excellent, genius, ultimate) is based on how far the characters have taken their own personal potential. It has a lot to do with dedication (Bisky is up there, changing her own body through years of willing it, for instance). Abengane is surely weaker than a lot of other nen users, even some who are ranked "great", but his dedication brought his ability to the maximum of his own potential.
His ability is still extremely rare, maybe not the strongest physically but definitely the rarest. Not everyone can rid nen curses and especially not everyone can master something as rare as that.
There are probably only two known nen exorcist in HxH, one is Abengane and the other one is one of Prince Benjamin's soldier. The exorcist in Prince Benjamin's faction has the ability to conjure a nen beast that can devour the nen ability of his target. Haven't read the manga, but in the anime there's another nen exorcist that's a chimera ant and as far as I'm aware she's still alive. Though the only thing she exorcised was Knuckle's ability, she didn't suffer much from it. That guy's better though according to the author.

Say, some of the legendary fights that have occurred in One Piece, had we seen them early on, we would be let down now (considering how much the series/powers have evolved/changed). Oda would be accused of Retconning so much. Though, I’m really hoping that once the series finally ends the anime does a remake, showing all of the battles that occurred off screen. Imagine how much money/viewers it would get. Finally seeing Shanks vs Mihawk, a movie on Gold Valley, full Ace vs Blackbeard, Fisher Tiger solo’ing MJ and so on. And for this ~ There really isn’t much of a solid explanation that would’ve explained how Abagane was convinced to lift the curse. But also leaving things out ~ It’s allowed our imaginations to run wild with how crazy the meh beast must’ve been, which is probably better than anything Togashi could’ve put in. Because the unknown tends to be more scary/creepy, and out imaginations don’t have a limit.
The reason he is an ultimate level nen user is because he choose exorcism which has a pretty low ceiling for being the best. Like someone like Meurem could probably never become an ultimate because his skill ceiling is so high it could be impossible to reach his ultimate level.

I wonder why Kurapika showed pretty much no reaction when informed that Chrollo's curse had been removed, so he either already knew about it (sensed the nen being dispelled), had already thought about that possibility and has planned some contingency about it or is already so consumed by his revenge that even that setback is not enough to shake him. Whatever the case is a shame that like so many interesting plot points this one has been crippled by the infinite hiatus cycle of the series.
The nen beast eats the curse, but can’t be dispelled unless the curse is. The curses he exorcises don’t do anything after the beast has eaten them. it’s his own beast that is the annoying part for him.
I can't even imagine how turrify kurapika nen beast would look like, if you look at gen true level of nen beast and comparee to kurapika, it gonna cost a lot of disaster with that much hatred he put in his nen.

No Chrolo is specialist In some categories is much harder than others to unlock the full potential , Which this is what the list is about. If I remember correctly there are no manipulators on this list And Nanika is the only specialist on this list

Togashi revealed that in 2022. There was drawing with some character and their Nen affiliation. Another drawing was the level of mastery of Nen for around 20 characters.

The level of mastery is define by the innate speed of learning, physical abilities, mental strength, the time of daily practice of Nen. + For Nen users who are placed just between 2 categories, often reaching the "Ultimate" level is conditioned by continuous training/practice of the 2 categories for a certain period of time. Kurapika is between Conjurer and Specialist. And If you read the Succession war arc, you know that Kurapika can't do that with the condition for being a Specialist.

The nen beast eats the curse, but can’t be dispelled unless the curse is. The curses he exorcises don’t do anything after the beast has eaten them. it’s his own beast that is the annoying part for him.
He's so powerful he can even surpass nen getting stronĝer at death.
I can't even imagine how turrify kurapika nen beast would look like, if you look at gen true level of nen beast and comparee to kurapika, it gonna cost a lot of disaster with that much hatred he put in his nen.

Chrolo could almost never reach his full potential because of the way his ability works. The only way he could reach is by either getting every single ability in the show or at least as many as the book he has allows

Yeah im very curious about who the other 5 are now i think i have 2 figured out 1 Beyond Netro n 2 Ant King even though personally i dont think he belongs here n my other that might is Killau Grandfather he might be if not Ant King now i would think because the 12 Zodiac's were named that at least 1 should be in the 7 if not 2 but at very least the Zodiac's should be advance in Nen very proficient n decent combat wise n strong kinda of want to know more about all of them n hoping that we get the series animated again.

@Diemond64 yeah Netero was a Unlimite which what allowed him to be so strong n dip so much into Conjuring n Manipulator when their were better ways for him to make himself stronger as a Enhancer he lowkey could've been more creative with his 100 hands body technique if he had different versions like 1 that soloy focused on his Enhancer traits that would've allowed him to beat n kill the Ant I mean he might've we idk for real but the Ant King lowkey shouldn't have been a Specialist or if he was then his Royal Gaurds should've been too but that one dude Hisoka fought at the Battle area was clever as a Enhancer he used Conjuring n I think Manipulator since he did use body double technique n Tiger fist or whatever it was he used.

Maybe the nen curse that was lifted was so great that he would’ve certainly died, such as with gońs situation and said no to doing so. But the troupe threatened him with torture and made him choose death over that gruesome pain. Buuuuut I guess the curse would’ve just became a much greater nen beast appear and latch on to abangane. 🤷

The level of mastery is define by the innate speed of learning, physical abilities, mental strength, the time of daily practice of Nen.
+ For Nen users who are placed just between 2 categories, often reaching the "Ultimate" level is conditioned by continuous training/practice of the 2 categories for a certain period of time. Kurapika is between Conjurer and Specialist.
And If you read the Succession war arc, you know that Kurapika can't do that with the condition for being a Specialist.

OK, man If you read the arc after the anime, you know that Kurapika has an insane condition on him.
First, if you remember correctly, during the Uvogin fight, he show us that he can be a Specialist WHEN his eyes are red/scarlet.

During the Succession war arc, we learned that every seconds, SECONDS, NOT MINUTES, SECONDS.
Every second his eyes are red, it takes an hour off his life expectancy.
1 seconds = 1 hour less
10 seconds = 10 hour less
60 seconds/1 minute = 2 days + 12 hours LESS
KURAPIKA CAN'T TRAIN NORMALY BECAUSE HE CAN KILL HIMSELF, So he isn't Ultimate level.
