  • In this weeks video, I explore the Southeast corner of Nevada between the Mojave National Preserve and the Colorado Plateau. While the temperatures are still mild in the desert, I search to find a Joshua tree set against a sandstone wall.
    Thanks for watching!

    I have forgotten most of what I knew about film photography - haven't done any since the 70's but I love your aesthetic and skill!

    I'm hoping to get into medium format in the new year. But now I'm thinking some camping trips and large format photography is the way to go?? 😂
    These videos of yours are mega meditative and calming. Thank you

    Enjoyed the show and your compositions. The single Joshua is gorgeous. On a side note, awesome to see a G-Wagon being used properly!

    I agree with you about the Ektar. The red is much more pleasing in Portra. I found myself admiring the heft of that tripod and head combination. It must give you pretty stable support.

      Yes, it's a great tripod and head combo. It's easy to level and super solid.

    Hi,
    I live in the very south of Spain and exsperiance similar light to where you are. I often wonder what time of day you expose the final photos. Would you consider adding this information to the final images displayed in your films, somthing like - Shot March - 12:00 noon or Jan - 18:30 along with the other data.
    Joshua Tree in Bloom absolutly wonderfull!

    It is very interesting how different the colours of that small bushes around the tree are shown. In the Ektar and Portra shots they are in a cyanish green and on your digital video they are almost magenta grayish like in 13:00.
    Very nice photographs…

    Hi Shane, I enjoyed this video and your images. I was in JTNP back in February hoping to make some 4x5 photographs but the wind was howling one day and the next there was a snow storm. It looks like you picked the perfect time to be in that area.

    This is terrific, Shane, well done. Your videos are wonderfully low-key, and I quite like the images. And, it is nice to see the Toyo 810M in action--it is my dream camera, but a bit beyond me just now, so I am happy to live vicariously through yours.

    Beautiful video. I liked the Portra portrait of the lone Joshua Tree. I think the first photo was a pretty scene but the two dimensional image had competing subjects so it didn’t translate as a photograph.

    If I may ask, what are the Ektar and Portra labeling on the side of your camera? 3-4, 4-6, 5-8,. etc.
    Initially I thought it was reciprocity failure.

    Just ran across your channel. Glad I found you. Always great to see large format film in use. Would love to see the post process as I have not been shooting large format film for many years. Assume you have a drum scanner? Or curious about how you move from sheet film to digital. Thanks for the film details in the video!

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I just use a flatbed scanner for the videos. When making large prints, I’ll send it out to get drum scanned. It might be a topic worth exploring more in a future video.

    With your comment about ektar and velvia it makes me wonder why you don’t shoot provia. To me it has a much more calm colour rendition (and for people it doesn’t make them look flushed, though I know that’s not a concern for you), is there any particular reason you don’t?

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 роки тому

      Good question. I do shoot Provia but it’s fairly difficult to find in 8x10. I agree, very nice color rendition. Kodak E100 is very similar and easier to find.

  • @rockhills

    Are those numbers you've placed on the rear standard for reciprocity?

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, exactly. I have an App on my phone with the info, but I’m probably in a rush if reciprocity failure is happening, typically around sunset or sunrise.

    Certainly NOT point and click -- huge effort and great job - particularly in the heat.
    Far from digital pricing - hence why you take so long to get it right. I just searched 10"x8" Ektachrome E100 film pricing - $20 per sheet !! Portra 160 seems to be even more pricy.
    Oh and the gear, let alone the time and effort required to learn to be as good as you are -- wow!

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 роки тому

      Thanks, Andy! Yes, 8x10 color film ends up being about $30 a shot after processing. You better know what you’re doing 😂 Thanks for watching.
