58:56 One concern of riding road tire on gravel bike is BB drop. Gravel bikes are designed to run wider tire thus higher tire height as well. So it usually has bigger BB drop. However if you equip shorter crank and relatively wide road tire, it may cancel out. Maybe it's more aero on the straight flat terrain too.

Great show gents and glad I was there. I asked the question on bringing road wheels and gravel bike. I have Dura Ace 9200 on my road bike with an 11-34 cassette. My gravel setup is 12 speed mechanical GRX. 32-48 on the front. I just popped a bigger rotor on the rear wheel for travel and it was an easy swap between rides. 48/11 is still good for about 60kph at just over 100rpm cadence. Having the small ring on the front made for some easy riding up the climbs on the road, and with the 11-36 on the gravel wheel the first climb of RADL GRVL (which I think hits up to 20% at one point) was fine. Handling and wider bars were not as good as my road bike, but comfort over the Adelaide roads was great and hill climbing was comparable. Cheers Alan (not Alec) 😂

Jesse is correct on Carbon-Ti chainring.. They are plenty stiff, but you lose a smidge of shifting quality compared to DuraAce. I had extralight chainrings before and those are not stiff at all
I went to an ENVE FRAY from an SL8, Melee, and Madone. I have two set of ENVE 3.4 Wheels - one with 40mm and one with 30mm. 1x 13speed Red XPLR. It’s not quite a melee or SL8, and it’s not quite a MOG - but it’s 99% of both and sooo fun.

"Doing it all" on the gravel bike with one drivetrain setup is easiest with Shimano DI2 2x12. Run GRX but 50/34 chainset, put a 12 speed 11-34 on the road wheels and an 11-36 on the gravel wheels, and you are pretty much there. If you are changing tubeless tyres then you might as well be changing chainrings. chainsets, rear mechs, cassettes......
Quick note to Chris. Did you know that on your TCR you can flip the wedge on the seat post to take your saddle set back from the standard +15mm to -5mm?

I have a Trek Checkpoint with Ultegra 50/34-11/34, I do my gravel rides and racing on this, I've also used it on the road with another set of wheels with the only gearing change at the rear, 11/32, same as my road bikes and I've also raced on the road with this gearing, sometimes in a fast pace group yeah your spinning pretty fast but it's never caused me to be dropped. The kit colour thing is so interesting. Not as simple as lighter colours will keep you cooler. The thickness of the jersey material will play a much larger part in regards to body temp rather than the colour. Also a bit of evidence to support that darker colours dissipate your body heat better when there's sufficient air flow. Seems like dark is better at faster speeds, whilst light is better when climbing at lower speeds where that air speed drops.
@Jesse for the record - the Hutchison tires are far more comparable as an everyday race tire to the Corsa Pros at only a 2w deficit (not the Corsa Pro Speeds you quoted, which are a TT tire)
When sprinting out of the saddle, a depper wheel in the front will be a cda penalty cause of a bigger frontal area. Disavantage getting to the speed of launching but advantage out of the saddle, imo its not completly dumb.

The things brands need to start doing is providing custom builds with stems, seat posts, handle bars, ect. If a consumer wants a more relaxed position give him more set back on the seat post and shorter reach bars and stem

I never thought I'd ride anything but the GPs but due to availability issues at my LBS I picked up the new pirellis. they're just as comparable imo. nice that they're both around now as you can just buy whatever is available when needed. only thing I'd say is the pirellis inflate ~10% larger than stated measurement where contis are fairly/typically bang on. Vittoria Corsa Pro SPEED is the one that's 6 watts I believe. The regular Vittoria Corsa Pro's they're running should be a bit slower than those. They are even a little slower than GP5000's. The fastest version of the Vittorias pretty much has 0 puncture protection so would be very risky to run. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
@@Mike0 TT's are actually surprisingly robust. At least they were for the whole summer season I ran them. They don't last super long but while I ran them, I had 2 punctures in 2000 miles which self sealed. I suspect Vittorias are even more TT focused / less protection.
@@8rkThey’re strikingly robust until you’re in a casual group ride 70km from home at 35 degrees. Happened to a friend not once but twice past summer, he got the hate of the whole pack for riding a TT tire on a training ride lol
kit colour does not matter for heat dissipation..this was studied by Jumbo Visma (now Visma LAB) a few years ago in collaboration with a dutch university, before choosing their TdF kit (which was full black)..they discovered that both kit and helmets can be black without any measurable difference in heat dissipation
Ridley is claiming 6 watts better at 50km/h, which is what... 4-5 watts at 40-45km/h? Nowhere near Aeroad or any of the others. It's a bike that LOOKS AERO but goes as fast the Giant Propel for twice the price tag and half the stack height.
The Ridley Falcn RS tested @ 212 watts and was already faster than the old Noah fast. If I recall correctly that compares well to other do it all bikes especially since the tested bike was not in a try hard set up compared to other manufacturers (fat tires plus 40cm handle bar). So Ridley is at least able to make an aerodynamic bike. However, the new Noah Fast bike is very very heavy and even if it tested @ 200 watts I do not think anybody would pick this over a more allroundish aero bike like the Aeroad.
The comparison of regular road tires to the Corsa Speed is kind of misleading. The toilet paper I use for my morning sit down is more robust than a Corsa Speed. I don’t think any of the pros have tried to run the Corsa Speed. The GP 5000TT is probably the lightest tire anyone uses.
50:43 Plapp just bought a lifetime of undisputed, “I’ll bury myself at any moment” service and the price was the jersey. Time will tell if it was a good choice.
Well, so far Pirellis RS have been as good as GPs. With the added benefit of puncture protection and they also feel more grounded in technical descents.
Red Bull may be running 1x to increase shift speed of the RD. When you take the FD out of the system, the shifters don’t need to wait for the potential for both buttons to be clicked, shifting the FD. SRAM 2x has a programmed delay to account for the milliseconds difference it takes for people to hit both buttons and shift the FD. Again, taking it out of the equation removes that delay, making the rear shift noticeably faster.
I'm pretty sure UAE are keeping the Y1RS for the classics and would rather have guys train on the V4RS in the meantime. First because it's just so much simpler to have riders build the foundation of their 2025 fitness on a bike they know well and so they can adapt the fit thanks to their feedback. Second they likely want to keep it aside so other teams don't know about their actual performance until they win a maor race, driving speculations about its performance. Probably why they announced it in december where absolutely nothing happens in the road cycling world. Have people talk about it and speculate but keep the mystery whole.
The amount of gear chat is making these harder and harder to watch.. I feel the earlier episodes had more variety and perspective where as these shows, we can get 47 minutes in and we are discussing bikes and comparisons that 99% of the listenership will never ride
Loved this weeks show, live audience, different location and background, controversial T-shirt, but why did you swap sides? That was too radical for my mind to cope with.
29s weighed 214g . The feel thin to the hand but it's winter here in Norcal and lots of rough road surfaces. I can't complain about the puncture resistance so far. Aero111 for the front, really handles the wind.

@@tarmaccio no tire is flat proof ofcourse. but i was expecting a lot worse from a “tt” tire ya know?
kit colour does not matter for heat dissipation..this was studied by Jumbo Visma (now Visma LAB) a few years ago in collaboration with a dutch university, before choosing their TdF kit (which was full black)..they discovered that both kit and helmets can be black without any measurable difference in heat dissipation
You know what problem I have with nice chunky 30mm GP5000? My rims look less deep :(
Mads Pedersen (Lidl/Trek) said in a danish interview that he was not impressed by the Pirelli tires he have to use even less in wet conditions ...
Turbo Cotton - 11.1 Watts @ 100 psi.
GP 5000 - 10.7 Watts @ 100 psi.
Both running 100gr butyl tubes.
BOYS we gotta fix that t-shirt. Love ya 🖤
Ridley is claiming 6 watts better at 50km/h, which is what... 4-5 watts at 40-45km/h? Nowhere near Aeroad or any of the others. It's a bike that LOOKS AERO but goes as fast the Giant Propel for twice the price tag and half the stack height.
Good stuff guys!
The Carbon Ti chainrings are stiffer than the standard dura ace chainrings also are about 10 grams lighter.
However, the new Noah Fast bike is very very heavy and even if it tested @ 200 watts I do not think anybody would pick this over a more allroundish aero bike like the Aeroad.
gotta get u guys over to vittoria corsa pros...
Jesse is pulling stats out of his personal library, Carbon Ti. Chain rings are heavier than the Dura Ace.
The comparison of regular road tires to the Corsa Speed is kind of misleading. The toilet paper I use for my morning sit down is more robust than a Corsa Speed. I don’t think any of the pros have tried to run the Corsa Speed. The GP 5000TT is probably the lightest tire anyone uses.
has it been talked about that the X-Lab looks just like a Venge?
'It's speed' shirt swing and a miss on the grammar but give me that certified fast/dog of a bike shirt ASAP
@@ultimatistWrong. "Its" is the possessive form.
@@majorx4964 That's what he said. Should say "hold its speed", not "hold it's speed".
@@derfx89 Guy I was replying to was saying the opposite and has deleted his comment. You can tell if you look at who I was replying to.
@@majorx4964 you're right, my bad.
50:43 Plapp just bought a lifetime of undisputed, “I’ll bury myself at any moment” service and the price was the jersey. Time will tell if it was a good choice.
Remember Ridley is to Belgium what SS Torana is to Aussies. Would be great to have our own Aussie brand to support like every other cycling country.
I watched that last night when you accidentally made it public. When I stopped and went back later, it wasprivate again :) Wondered why only 12 views!
Haha, you were one of the lucky few!
Do we think that they will address the spelling mistake in the next episode?
Do it all solution re: Shane Miller is what we've been saying all along. It works if you're starting with the right frame.
Well, so far Pirellis RS have been as good as GPs. With the added benefit of puncture protection and they also feel more grounded in technical descents.
Jesus that Bianchi top tube looks long!
About Plapp, I just think he loves this years kit too much. He wants to wear and own it. (The new maap kit)
One advantage of running a one by sram is slightly faster rear shifting but that can't be it either
New topic that we need discussed : Is chris miller THE ultimate welder ?
Red Bull may be running 1x to increase shift speed of the RD. When you take the FD out of the system, the shifters don’t need to wait for the potential for both buttons to be clicked, shifting the FD. SRAM 2x has a programmed delay to account for the milliseconds difference it takes for people to hit both buttons and shift the FD. Again, taking it out of the equation removes that delay, making the rear shift noticeably faster.
I NEED That shirt! Does it hold its speed. Where do I buy haha
alex dosette is at xds astana
Thanks for letting us know
I wonder why are you always discuss "Corsa Pro Speed" and its properties, but in the b-rolls there's only stock "Corsa Pro" (not "Speed") in sight?
Chris RE: Road Nats - 100%
Dowsett is working for Astana this year.
Sorry Chris there's a typo on your shirt. It should say its, not it's.
Red Bull couldn’t get the boys on an SL8? Water we dune hair
So tadej won worlds for the performance advantage of the white kit 😮
What's going on with Ewan?
The amount of gear chat is making these harder and harder to watch.. I feel the earlier episodes had more variety and perspective where as these shows, we can get 47 minutes in and we are discussing bikes and comparisons that 99% of the listenership will never ride
Loved this weeks show, live audience, different location and background, controversial T-shirt, but why did you swap sides? That was too radical for my mind to cope with.
Chris : try enve race days..
29s weighed 214g . The feel thin to the hand but it's winter here in Norcal and lots of rough road surfaces. I can't complain about the puncture resistance so far. Aero111 for the front, really handles the wind.
Apparently the stiffness of the new Colnago bike sucks and the taller guys don't wanna ride it.
Not surprised, much smaller BB area, so keeping enough stiffness is hard.
peak torque called that out when he interviewed the engineers, your statement makes sense
How do you know that? Genuinely interested.
@@salvadorreyeszuniga6112 Weird internet rumour, but looking at the smaller BB area it does seem plausible.
XLab should be running Cybrei if they are off Shimano. Rub off the SRM logo and go mask off and be proud to run Cybrei.
