Disney Costumes Galore! // Visiting the Art of Disney Costume Exhibit at MOPOP

- I have never wanted to touch a museum display so badly as I did while standing in front of the blue Cinderella ballgown.
My friends Emily and Rachel and I headed up to downtown Seattle for the day to visit the Art of Disney Costume Heroes and Villains exhibit at MOPO, and it was so amazing! There were so many incredible costumes on display! Afterwards, we headed over to the Space Needle to check out the new glass floor.
Which Disney costume was your favorite? Are there any that you want to make? I'm so inspired for so many more Disney cosplays now!

The museum should have a "Strip Show"! Costumers could watch the curators disrobe the display bodies and pack the costumes. Imagine getting to see the Cinderella dress dismantled!!!!!!!!!!!!! What I wouldn't pay for that ticket!
Oh my gosh, that would be so amazing to see!
Have you seen Bella Mae’s last ever Princess dress she will make. She even recreated the dance scene with a friend. Soo much Fabric &. Crystals!
Yes! Her dress is so gorgeous!
And the unfathomable thing is that she did the dress all alone while the original dress was sewn by a team of five of so people!
@@saymyname2417 right? I feel like this dress is one of those that I wish I could wear, but that, having seen how hard/tedious it is to make, I'm never going to actually attempt.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions - That would be an INSANE amount of work. I have seen Bella Mae's vids on this. Plus, it would be expensive (I think the original was made of Yumissima which costs a shitton of green per metre) and it takes up A LOT of space to store.
Yeah, I think watching Bella Mae's videos will have to suffice for me, too 😁!
That was going to be my suggestion.
When you mentioned Lady Tremaine's skirt, it gave me the most brilliant idea! I recently came into possession of some acid green fabric AND I already own a black lace overskirt! YEAH!!!
Ooh, yes! Do it!
Oh, I just love how they posed the mannequins! It really brings the outfits to life. Great exhibition design.
I have to say brandy's Cinderella dress and Whitney Houston's fairy godmother dress was my favorite along with the Harry Potter.
I love all of them! One version of Cinderella I really liked was the one with Brandy in it, mainly for the song she sang that said, in part, "In my own little corner, in my own little chair, I can be what (who?) ever I want to be..."
Yep, that's her classic song! It's in the 1950s and 60s versions of Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, too.
Aww, this made me homesick for Seattle. Only lived there for a few years, but my family and I spent so much time at Seattle Center and the EMP. We dressed up for the opening of the Fantasy Exhibit. We still have the picture we took of us in the sword chair from Game of Thrones. Thank you!
Wonderful costumes much easier to see detail than in the film's thanks for showing us
Well, I've got to add another place to my "To Do" list for my trip to Seattle...that was supposed to happen in 2020. Perhaps in 2022! Thanks for taking us around the beautiful exhibit!
Totally jealous you got to see that! I was in Seattle when the museum had the Star Wars exhibit and got to see that - complete understand the urge to reach out and touch and examine. It's breathtaking to see how many details are put into costumes for movies, details that we don't see while watching the movies; details that are often created by hours of handwork! Thank you for sharing!
I loved this exhibit. Seeing different versions of Cinderella dresses in person was so cool. Also unpopular opinion but Emma Watson's yellow Belle dress is not that bad just not glamourous enough for the film. And I love her blue outfit. I appreciate that they didn't cinch her waist in to an ridiculous degree like they did with Lily James in Cinderella. As lovely as the skirt is on that dress they did not have to make the waist that skinny.
Cinderella is my favorite Disney princess
Emily in the tunnel just made my day!
OMG U HAD ME AT THE ENCHANTED OUTFITS
For 24 minutes I was orally lost in your video. You are so lucky you have friends that love the same things as you. You all looked so beautiful in your unique costumes. Love your channel, and your dress is gorgeous. Thank you 💓💓💓
Great exhibit , I love those princesses dresses , including Belle 's and they have my beloved Barbossa too !
I had no idea the top of the space needle rotated!!! That's so cool! And the costumes!!! 😍🤩😍 What a fun video. 🥰
I love the fabric choices in Dumbo 2019! So colorful and vibrant!
Don't mind me. I'm just sitting here, trying not to cry over the Mary Poppins dress. Thank you so much for sharing this!
You're sooo LUCKY to have seen this!! And the Space Needle was really cool! :D
I was just in Seattle for a few days, and I’m so bummed that we didn’t go to MOPOP. Had I known about the costume exhibit, I would have definitely gone! Thank you for such a thorough tour.
Me: spend weeks obsessively trying to figure out how to add smocking to patterns. Turns on video wherein lady Rebecca has a diamond smocked blouse and shrieks with joy. Husband wakes. Dogs bark.
What a cool exhibit, loved seeing all the costumes!
Your "Red" is super cute and WOW at all the smocking and pintucks!
💖
Disney set the bar so high with the live action Cinderella dress that the live action Belle dress was so sad. I remember being so awed by the animated version, then being so disappointed.
Did they have Susan Surandon's 5 inch platform boots from enchanted?
Her boots had 5" platforms?! I didn't see them there, but they may have been hidden under the dress.
And I agree - I feel like Cinderella as a while was such a great live action remake, while the rest have been quite a let down.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions yes they were quite the boots! I noticed them in the scene where she's crossing a street.
Yes, I agree about the live actions too.
Thank you for taking me along! I can't count how many times I paused, rewinded a bit back and paused again! Especially at the Cruella DeVil costumes.
You and your friends look so lovely and like really having a good time!
That was lovely. Thanks for taking us a long!!
Oh my....what a blast from my past.... I livedin Bothell way back in the late 70s and I have fond memories of the space needle (back when there was a restaurant I think) and the monorail. Thank you!!!
There was a restaurant there until just a few years ago, actually, so I'm used to it having the restaurant too. For some reason, they decided not to open it back up when they put in the glass floor.
Thank you so much for taking us along!😁
If you want a really thorough breakdown of the Cinderella ball gown, I suggest watching Bella Mae's Designs videos on her reconstruction of the dress. She did extensive research and shows a lot of behind the scenes photos she has unearthed.
Yes, she did a wonderful job!
I used to work on 5th Ave., a block from the Vader building on 4th. Now I work in SLU. It was nice to see the SN after the remodel as I'm not one for heights and don't want to walk over the glass floor. (it's why my camera went up the Eiffel Tower, and I didn't). Loved the costumes and it's something I'm hoping to view before it leaves Seattle.
Thank you for this video. I'm not going to be able to make it out to the exhibit, so getting to go vicariously with you was amazing.
Re: the Cinderella Dress- if I remember correctly, Bella Mae's Designs (here on youtube) did a big video series on her doing her FOURTH version of that dress last year or so! Absolutely worth a watch if you're wanting to know the ins and outs of how that whole thing was made.
Yep, she did an amazing job!
How many of us would buy the Disney Costumes Book that talks about all the Costumes in Great Details? I have the one for Game of Thrones and I want one from Star Wars as well.
There is one for the original Art of Disney costume exhibit, and a whole bunch of these costumes are in that book: amzn.to/3kWrtSB
I have that book , I love it
awwwwwwwww this made me miss western WA so much. It's where I grew up just outside Seattle and my senior prom was actually there at the formerly EMP! I hope this exhibit travels because I certainly can't.
Thank you so much for this, Rebecca. I'm never going to see it in real life so this is wonderful for me. Am I the only one who isn't impressed by Cinderella's ballgown? It's pretty and sparkly but I would rather have any of the 'evil female character' costumes or Red's costume... not sure what that says about me :D Thanks again!
All those villain costumes definitely have a lot more going on! Mostly, cinderella is just huge and poufy and sparkly. Plus a really pretty color.
Right! Everything that Regina ever wore on Once. I mean the costuming on that show was beautiful.
Not just you! I paused at Maleficent's costume!!
I would love to visit an exhibition like that. When you showed the oufit that Sean Connery wore in The Highlander I got chills. I love the movie, the plot is very questionable and it hasn't aged well, (the sequels are even worse) but at the time I thought it was the coolest thing ever. And I still do because it has Sean Connery and Queen (the soundtrack is iconic), and in my book that's a lot of coolness.
I would love to see this exhibit come to Dallas. Fingers Crossed! Thank you for sharing your experience. I am currently making a Provincial Belle and Gaston costume for my husband and me. My son is going to be Will Turner. It's such fun!
Thanks for sharing!
Bella mae designs has done an indepth look and re-creation of the cinderella dress @Lady Rebecca Fashions with a full breakdown of layers and fabrics if you're interested to find out more about it. I found it fascinating
So cool! Oh wow, the Hocus Pocus dresses! :D I would have stood and stared at them for hours. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for taking us along on this adventure. Stunning! So happy😊 these one-of-a-kind beauties are preserved & shared!
I need to see this exhibit. The once upon a time costumes made me gasp a bit. Also they had Dorothys dress from return to Oz. Holy cow. So much to see. Also you and your friends remind me so much of myself and a friend of mine.
I was just there a few weeks ago! You actually filmed the building I did my job training when you panned through the view from the Needle. (Also, climbing through a tiny tunnel in fancy dress sounds like a very Anna thing to do.)
That was amazing!!
Also going in the space needle brings back memories from the year where after we packed me up at the end of spring semester, we drove up to Seattle for a couple days of touristy stuff before driving back home.
Flashbacks to your snow walking/playing video! LOL.
Oh definitely! Emily enjoys taking a few risks! 😉
Cinderella costumes are so gorgeous!!! I hope someday can see those wonderful dresses in person ❤️
I also loved the Little Red Riding Hood, Ariel and Queen Ana’s costumes, really awesome work!!
Seattle is a bit of a "home away from home" for me, so thank you for the Space Needle footage in addition to the costume tour!
Oh, mannnn. I just got back from Seattle, visiting family for our anniversary. I had no idea this was on! It would have been difficult to fit a visit in, but it would have been impossible not to go, if I had known. I'm not sure if I'm regretful or relieved! :'D
Thanks for filming this! I've wanted to go, but a combination of the price and COVID-related anxiety around indoor public spaces has kept me away.
this is such a great video! Thank you for sharing all of these costumes!
I have so many movies that I haven't seen!
So very cool! I wish the exhibition would come to Germany 😱
I know you girls had to have had so much fun! And you look adorable in your costume btw.🥰
What fun! Thanks for sharing
Fantastical!!!
What a fun exhibit to see. So many amazing costumes! Plus it looked like you were all having a blast.
This was extra fun to watch
This was so much fun! Great job with the music and the narration, I love every minute.
GAH, you didn't know Sean Connery's costume from Highlander??? WOW! SO great!
I know, right!
I've never seen the movie! Clearly I need to fix that.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Oh, you should!!! (Do NOT fall into the trap of believing there's a Highlander 2 or 3, tho, it will end in tears!)
@@nixhixx There can be only one, after all...then love must die...who wants to live forever.
@@robbiecrafter It's a kind of magic!
Best soundtrack ever!
Makes you realize just how TINY those actresses are
Awesome! I moved from Seattle to NYC at the wrong time!
Have you seen BellaMae's Cinderella ball gown series? Amazing.
Oh my gosh, yes. She did such an amazing job!
I don't think we'll have that exhibition here in Spain, sadly
You know, somehow this absolute joke of Bella's gown looks better in person than in movie... Just how... 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Yeah, I think because it really is a very pretty dress, but compared to the rest of the costumes in that movie, it was just such a letdown.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Exactly! And CGI doesn't help. At the exhibition you can see embroidery and ornaments, while in the movie this dress seems, I don't know, flat, not decorated? It has no depth, no dimension, so it looks like a cheap imitation.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions I think it's a beautiful dress
You really should have credited or at least mentioned all the talented designers who created those amazing costumes. If you can take the time to label everything including the actors, you could have added in the designers. Very disappointing.
