@Andy An Get rid of Synchronized Swimming and Diving (I think they have that), Rhythmic Gymnastics, Curling, Team Handball, Water Polo, Tennis (makes no sense, everyone is a Pro on the Tennis Circuit).
The only events that seem remotely interesting to me are the tug of war and obstacle swimming events. What are your opinions?
stephen young I agree about having swimming with objects but Tug of War isn't quite a sport as it used to be. I'd like to see it come back as a permanent demo sport, not as a medal sport, though.
The horse ski thing and tandem biking was kind of nice :P

No i think that's not quite correct :) Equestrian events took place even in the panhellenic games (matter of fact it was one of the only sports women could take part in). Sports including animals is simply a part of the Olympic spirit.
I would say Bandy looks interesting. A combination of soccer and hockey looks pretty fun.

if your argument is about running longer than anyone or species, tug of war can also shown the prospect of knowing your team is stronger than any other team or species

The swimming programme at the 1896 Olympics had perhaps the most specialised event in the entire history of the Olympics: the 100m freestyle for sailors. (And, even then, it was only for those in the Greek navy.) I can't believe that wasn't mentioned.

Conclusion: Sweden is the best at weirdass sports
British by far. They have one "sport" where participants chase a wheel of cheese down a hill.
I would argue Finland is best at weird sports. They are the ones that came up with the air guitar championships, swamp soccer, and wife carrying.

Some of these should be brought back. I really like the skiing with a horse one.
The Individual 4000m Pursuit for men and the 3000m Pursuit for women, in the sport of cycling was discontinued recently.

Notice how France seems to be the one inventing or competing in these weird events? Lets see if the Paris Olympics will bring back the weirdness (I mean, Breakdancing is rumored to be an event)
My favorite olympic sport that was discontinued is baseball, but luckily they are bringing it back for the 2020 olympics

The French are not having it in 2024. They are no good at baseball or softball so they are not having it. Probably back in 2028 in LA.
Baseball and American Football are weird sports, that only north american people really like.

Cricket 🏏 was played as an official sport in the 1900 Olympics in Paris between France 🇫🇷 and Great Britain 🇬🇧, the only two participants (Belgium 🇧🇪 and Netherlands 🇳🇱 withdrew due to planning issues). At that time, it was played across two days, the Test match format. Great Britain beat France by 158 runs to win 🥇 gold.
Cricket is set to return to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, 128 years later, in the Twenty20 format, meaning a match result in 2-3 hours.
About 6-8 countries are set to participate in both Men's and women's events with Zimbabwe men 🇿🇼 already having qualified via the 2023 African games, I think.
I always thought the standing triple jump was pretty odd.
Let's hope a few of these sports make a comeback or get joined by sports that imho should be dropped.
Like Bandy is good enough to come back into the Winter Olympics, but any sports involving an animal should be dropped.

Hm. Interesting. I don't think I've heard of anything on this list except for Motorboating and Tug of War (I've heard of Synchronized Swimming, but not the Solo version). I think I would enjoy watching Equestrian Vaulting, Skijoring, Bandy, and the 200m Swimming Obstacle Event.
Some of these discontinuations are probably for the best.

I believe American Football was an Olympic sport at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics of 1932--It may not be unusual to Americans, but is hardly played outside that country!

Tug of War honestly should not have been discontinued and people that are powerlifters, regardless of gender, should also be the people that compete in Tug of War. Furthermore, there should be three divisions of Tug of War. The first division should be single opponent versus single opponent, the second division should be a two person team versus another two person team, and the third, and last, division should be a six person team versus a six person team.
I am confused why you put vaulting on this list. It is an amazing sport that requires extreme strength, skill, and agility. I would like to see it return to the Olympics. Please explain why you find it weird. Thank you.

You forgot “Jeu de Paume”, a precursor to lawn tennis, with rather complex, distinct rules, a cork ball and special racket, only played in the 1908 Olympics.
I seem to remember barrel jumping on ice. And, they used to make figure skaters actually draw figures in the ice (like figure 8's) and judged who did it best. How is Rythmic gymnastics still in there?
The Plunge should have been #1. It is truly bizarre. All you have for the solo synchronized swimming is, well, it's solo.

The swimming obstacle event sounds interesting, sort of like doing Steeplechase in the pool.
It would have been interesting to note why tug of war is steered away from, lots of people don't seem to know that it's actually really dangerous. Many people have died and the likelihood of losing a limb is quite high.
I've heard of Solo synchronized Swimming but only because of Glee. The Synchronized Swimming coach turned Cheerios coach Roz Washington played by Nene Leakes was a bronze medalist. I thought it was a joke but I guess not.

Figure skating was literally that. Athletes were evaluated for their skills to make figures on ice not for the gracious performances that are today. It changed for good.

I like most of the sports, especially tandem racing and the riderless horse towing a person on a skis or sled... I wanna see some sports on ice that POC are really good at. Figure skating? The Knockout Game in Milwaukee during the depths of winter?
