    In flame room 2, I'd probably have 9 runes on the door, each one lighting after a Flameskull is defeated. Signal to the party that defeating the Flameskulls is not a fool's errand.

    Shadowdark is extremely exciting. I especially love your take on "Runehamerrian design." Unfortunately I missed out on the kickstarter due to life -- but I can't wait to start deisgning my own adventures. Thanks so much for the inspiration, my dude!

    Really cool / hot design.
    I will definitely use it with either shadowdark or dcc 😊😁
    Instead of upping hit points I will let each player use multiple characters.

      Ok, wow. That was a lot of fun. Of course my players did basically everything I didn't plan for. This included, taking both the fire and frost path at the same time, building spears from stingbats and long sticks, and fighting and killing ALL 20 forgotten dead while one person battled a minor mimic that was in place of the final chest. They only had 1 death, but so many close calls, and all ended with 1hp. So epic. Great fun for 4 players. Thank you!

      I did add the luck dice from Death Bringer RPG that recharge 1 die on a Nat 1. It made for some pretty cool moments.

    Instead of Exhaustion, I use fatigue. You are either fatigued or not, and fatigue gives a flat -3 penalty to all narratively applicable rolls. If for some reason someone was somehow severely fatigued, or had a combination of fatigue and disease or poison, then it's -6 instead.

      Hell yeah! Glad you enjoyed this one. Runehammer was the true pioneer for me on all things D&D. Without his guidance on what your game could look like, I probably would have moved on to a different hobby.

      @@HouseDM I bought all them stater sets (stranger things, official D&D starter set, etc.). I couldn't figure out how tf to GM a game. Watching Runnehammer do what you did with this video was my "Aha!" Moment. Yours is up there with quality tho. 🙏 Such a great tool for future GMs!

    I made the forgotten dead 1hp minions and they were still plenty scary. I still had the players roll damage and only after several kills did they realize any hit would kill.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds the default HP values too low. One thing I hate about simpler/OSR styles is the idea the PCs need to die, a lot. This along with the low variety within classes are the two things I disliked about SD. I have simply house ruled them. Allowing and creating more Talents and maxing HP at first level. I like low HP and broad progression instead of 100 HP powerhouses, but SD goes a bit too weak and bland for my taste. I am still happy to have backed and will play it as it is soooooo easy to hack. Great video!!

      I hear you and I’m a bit torn on this. I’ve had a TON of fun playing a 2 hp character before. I also am guilty of ruining a friends fun in my first ever OSE game I ran where he died 3 times in one night primarily because I did a poor job of telegraphing danger.
      So yeah, I think a fair house rule is giving max hp at first level. But every level after that, they gotta roll. Thanks for commenting rstag21!

    Always use the death timer for icy ledges. "In X turns if you don't roll Nat 20 you will FALL TO YOUR DEATH!"

    For exhaustion-like mechanics, I'm planning on shamelessly borrowing the state-as-resource from Forbidden Lands. So in the Flame room, a failed CON save would result in losing 1 point in the character's CON attribute.

      Go for it! I know lots of GM’s like to go for hitting player ability scores. Personally not a huge fan since keeping track of that can be a chore. But let me know how it goes!

    Great video and great dungeon! I really like that you used some of the generation tools in the SD book. Curious how much you looked to the book vs. how much you free formed it? Keep up the great work bro!

      Hey thanks Sean! Most of this gauntlet was free form. I used only a little bit from the SD tables to help guide me. Then switched things around if it didn’t make sense.
      My other gauntlet, however, was entirely randomized from the SD dungeon generator. But that video won’t be out for a bit 👍🏼

    This was very inspirational! I've had a major brain drain designing many nonlinear dungeons, and after watching this I got the idea for a more linear "gladiator meets squid-game" gauntlet. That said I'm looking forward to your next gauntlet video!
    Have to say I'm rather surprised that you allowed 4 + CON starting HP. Though the extreme heat/cold mechanics here make it seem that it was necessary. Can you remember how many characters died during a single run of this gauntlet?

      Hey Pakkanen! Yeah I certainly allowed the 4 + CON cause running a gauntlet with 1 hp is just too brutal from my experience. Something breathes on you and your dead. So at least with 4+Con you can more easily survive 1 hit.

      ​@House DM I do think that is the entire point of the gauntlet adventure though. At this point you have just basic villagers. They are in no way equipped to handle real adventure yet, they do die in fun, expected and not expected ways! We had a real blast not knowing who will be the survivors, and every single decision and dice roll being deadly.

    Great video! Do Shadowdark players have multiple PCs in a Gauntlet the way that DCC players do in a Funnel? How many 0-level PCs did you assume in the design?

      Hey Aaron! So I wrote this under the assumption that all players would each be controlling just 1 character at a time. I know DCC funnels let you have multiple and I’m all for that as an option too.
      The RAW for Shadowdark from my understanding is 1 per player too. But you could easily give them 2-3 level 0’s to run 😉

      Basically a highly lethal level zero dungeon meant to be fun to just try to survive and be highly rewarding 👍🏼 DCC refers to them as a “funnel”.
