You are so correct, knowing your voltage is extremely important 🥳🔥🔥🔥
I had my last amp blow one day (it was really hot) and knew it was because the lack of power...
But after learning more on eletrical for car audio... I realized if I had a volt meter before hand, I could have seen my voltage was dropping way too low. (11v) And would have upgraded before blowing an amp and the killing cells on my battery.
This was some useful info. Out of all the volt meter install vids I’ve seen, no one actually explains the different ways they can be wired, or the benefits behind each method.
Got my volt meter today💪🏽really appreciate all the tutorials/helpful tips from you bro
great your welcome and thanks for watching + more to come :)
For me my voltage meter is so important, I have the DS18 one, its my level control, amp switch and volt meter all in 1. Im only running 1000 watt system (800rms subs and 200rms mids/highs) and it allows me do figure out what songs have highest gain of bass, voltage drop means the song is bumping! But also if loud and no voltage drop can mean you are around tuning frequency and have good efficiency! Also I can bump music with engine off without doing damage. My boss set up dual batteries in out work van with dual voltmeters and it made it super easy to figure out what battery was starting to die.
Im a cyclist for fitness and I use power, rpm and torque measurements, (along with a whole lot of other readings) when my power messes up its a big deal because you literally dont know what your doing to a certain degree as in you might not be able to tell and extra 50 watts apart. So you end up putting out too much power and loose all energy to get home. Same goes for an amp, overdrive it without proper energy supply and it will bonk and burn out :')
Just installed a voltage meter. I do alot of camping were I listen to my tunes with my engine off, l was so surprised to see how fast voltage went down from 13.1 to 12.3 ,that is when l restart my engine. This basic little system tells you what you electrical system is doing 👌. Love your work (cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍).
Nice Rodney sounds like fun. Glad to help!
Building a system in my truck, I’ve always seen the meters and didn’t know what they were for… great video. I’m ordering mine tomorrow :)
They help alot, your welcome glad to help.
I'm glad you showing stuff like this and explaining why cause alot us need to know this.
if you want the most accurate read hook it up to the power and ground inputs for the amp
I'm glad I get to know that now so I can go ahead and get me one thanks
*It really comes in handy. I bought the car charger with the meter on it on Amazon.* 👌🏾
I'm about to install one at my front battery under the hood and then at my first amplifier which actually there's a lot of battery in between those two so that'll be good I learned a lot thank you
Need this. Great video I made the mistake of tapping off the head unit now the voltage is way off
Wow thanks man definitely getting one now
Your welcome this is the one I have enjoy amzn.to/2PEWZc0 and thanks for subscribing!
Excellent good topic of choice for discussion everybody needs to know this information. Even the newbies who have just gotten into car audio
I had my volt meter connected to my mono block and over months of use the wires melted and shorted and blow my fuse not sure if i should wire to amp again or too battery intead
What if your voltmeter only have 2 wires power and ground how would you get it to cut off ?
A switch on the power somewhere you can turn off/on. Usually cheaper meters don’t have that 3rd wire
Thank you I'm learning
Your welcome glad to help? Subscribe for more daily videos 👍
what size wire do i need to connect the voltmeter to my amp?
14-16guage work fine. Look at the thickness it came with as example.
Thank you so much bro great videos saved me $$$ 💯🔊😎
Your welcome glad to help 👍
How about connecting the voltage meter's power wire directly to my amplifier's power wire fuse block? (I don't have a second battery) Bcuz anything attached directly to the battery positive terminal ought to be fused, right?
Correct unless you want a short
So master I got a ds18 universal bass knob with a volt meter so i was wondering if I could run the power wire for this bass knob to the battery without a fuse??
Very helpful thanks for all the info
Your welcome thanks for watching and subscribing!
Will a longer power wire from the front voltmeter cause any voltage drop/misreads?
if proper gauge size, no it shouldn't. I would definitely do at least 12-14gauge. it's always best to be close as possible for optimal readings ofc but minimal difference
Appreciate all your videos, very helpful.. keep it up brother 👍.. Stay Up PrayUp 🙏
Hey, I have an actual voltmeter and was wondering how can I test voltage. Where should I hook it up? I currently have a stock battery.
Go directly to battery/amp power. Test with multimeter to confirm accurate.
@@JacobViral2 If I'm testing from amp, should I connect to power wire going into the amp and the negative ground going into the amp? Thanks.
@@kawaiidono8633 correct, atleast measure power from amp and ground anywhere able but amp works too.
@@JacobViral2 I appreciate the help!
Hey Jacob good topic like pse mentalist have said everyone needs to knw especially where I live I hear alot of systems go by some r clean or jst some with more bass than highs but anyway keep coming with more videos lol I still watch ur ytv jst want to give thumbs up peace
I have a cigarette lighter voltage meter and it reads pretty accurate
It works yea but won’t be as close accurate as near amp/battery.
@@JacobViral2I had to come back to this video. I'm in my car with the air on and it's reading 11.7 to 11.9. The cigarette lighter meter I figured wasn't gonna be as accurate
@@d_marquis_ls your alt and electrical had more strain when ac/heat and other electrical is running. I wouldn’t use ac/heat when playing loud.
Demoing into 12’s is ok? As long as voltage stays 12.4 and above?
Charge at 14.8 but under heavy long bass notes I’ve seen 12.9
I try to stay 13+ but if mid 12’s are ok then I’ll stay in it longer.
I got a 192ah headway backed by 370 singer and a 270 Ohio Gen alts….6 runs power and grounds (3+3-) straight off alts to rear bank with all 2/0 welding cable.
If I have a bass amp and 2 mids and highs amp, would hooking the meter to my bank work to monitor all 3 amps?
Yes correct; it’s the source of your power bank
My volt meter has only two wires. Ground and power only so i wired my power at on acc wire directly to my ignition switch on acc works just fine
can you post a video on how that brand of volt meter works, how efficient it refreshes the readings, or at least for now tell me how this compares to the stinger. I look forward to your video on this or come explanation via a comment
Noted will do a video sometime sure. I’ve had both and used to run both at the same time. I do notice a major readership rate difference which I love from soundqubed and it shows the spike drops a lot more then the stinger. It’s worth the few extra $ if it was me. Accuracy is the same on both it’s really just color and refresh rate different.
@@JacobViral2 Should you have a fuse for the volt meter if you run the power wire to your amp?
@@riveralley to be safe yea but I don’t
@@JacobViral2 can you use a 12 foot 18 gauge wire?
@@riveralley I would recommend atleast 14 guage, but i mean if you see what size wire is from the meter :)
What about off your rear distribution block at the amps. I dont have a rear battery
That works too yes
I’m on a budget for a setup I’m getting a 30$ head unit a Rockville 500watt amp and a 6.5 600 watt max hifonics Brutus and I’m looking for a decent voltage meter for surround sound 😂
Here these are $12 amzn.to/3NUVG4v
I purchased a Down4Sound lithium battery that came with a digital voltmeter with just pos and neg..I've connected directly to my amp and it's stays at 0.00 even at the front battery this is with the vehicle on
Someone answer this cause I have one too
@@Ohgetoffended it didn't work
@@ceavalencia4767 damn. Did you wire up a switch? Or splice into the remote wire for amps?
Where can I buy a good 12-24voltmeter with remote wire or can I buy a 2 wire and connect power to amplifier and connect to close ground area.
I use this amzn.to/3KNh87H
@@JacobViral2 ty that helped alot and already ordered it
hello jacob i have somting too ask i have a volt meter only have for te power conection and one for the ground how can i conect that on the best way because the volt meter stay on thanks you soo much
A switch is needed between power near meter so you can turn on/off or a quick connect/remove.
@@JacobViral2 thats a good idea i will get one a switch i can make it on the battery in the back or the amp what is beter, tnx you soo much for replay
Thanks man.. Lean lots from u..
can i just wire the volt meter and ground straight to the amp??
Yes that would be great as well
@@JacobViral2Will that keep the volt meter in 24hrs since it straight off Positive & Negative?
My voltage meter does not turn off when my car does, is this safe? Or do I need to do a diy remote wire
It will slowly drain your battery, you need a remote wire meter or a switch
@@JacobViral2 thanks, I spliced a connector onto it.
Man the more I watch u the more I get confused..now thats not a bad thing but shows how much I know ..love bass..been a bass haed since I was 14 im 39 ..I use to get 2 15s 3k watts get a 3k amp and jus run it all stock..As we all started off..now I'm getting more into I and wanting to know how many volts do I need to be at and how many watts on 2 15s and at what hurtz and what tune ya know ???plz help!!!love ya Parker!!!
Depends on what the subs rated at. I suggest 120-130% power vs. rated subs to get you some head room to not max amps out and keep it clean power. Keep voltage above 12.8v if able all times really 14s best.
What about them cigarette lighter voltage meter? Are they any good?
I've seen a few people use those amzn.to/3wppEDy with good results, just note it's always best to monitor voltage from the battery/amp but it will work for convenience.
So if I put the power wire to amp do I also ground the volt meter to the amp or battery also??
Ground can be anywhere in the vehicle.
How do i wire my has only 1 positive and 1 negative but i have my wire with the remote for it could turn on and off with my heatunit with a meduse
You can install a relay that turns on with the remote wire and run the positive from it to positive of the volt meter. If you can't then you're best installing a switch you can turn on manually.
What radio model is that?
80prs similar to amzn.to/3Un43WG
Any thoughts on the kind you plug into the cigarette lighter??? That's what I'm doing. Only around 1k rms & stock electrical?
Works as well but recommend getting one to run off the amp as a secondary down the road. You’ll be fine as a monitor atleast to start :)
I have the same voltage meter, Can I run the remoter to my amp also?
Yes as long as it is on the turn in and not power for the blue wire. amzn.to/3fCbat1
Is running it from the power distribution block a good option?
Yes that’s near the back battery/amp so all connected.
What voltage meter is that ?
SQ Volt Meter amzn.to/45gslY7 No longer available in green atm
I have a glowshift digital volt gauge hooked up straight to my battery, is this giving me the reading I'm looking for or should it be hooked to my Amp somehow?
If it's your back battery yes it's just fine unless you only have front battery.
@@JacobViral2 yes I only have one battery that powers my car and my audio. I also have a 12chevy cruze with some sort of smart alternator that provides power based on my vehicles needs/draw
I suppose I will move my gauge to the back of my car and wire it to my amp :) thanks man
When running the power wire to the front battery can you run the wire to the battery without a fuse?
I would atleast suggest fusing next to the front battery to be safe plus to remove fuse when working on the back. Some don’t but always suggested.
@@JacobViral2 you da bomb bro you reply to all my questions wish you lived down here I'd love to hear your build look sick 💯🔥 Love from the #HI #OAHU 🤙🏽
Where did you buy that voltage meter?
Idk if they sell this exact one but here amzn.to/3Jgt1mN
I've seen my voltage at 10.5v before
What kind of volt meter is this and where can I buy one
amzn.to/2PEWZc0 enjoy and thanks for subscribing!
I connect mine to my amp but dont have remote cable on volt meter only bat and gnd a its all time on. How to do that it can be off when i turn off the car and shut it?
You have to use on/off switch like this amzn.to/30NIPeg through the power line so it’s not always on to be best so you aren’t tracking voltage through a turn in wire.
Doesn't it only turn on when your amp is on if connected that way?
@@tonybologna8522did you find out?
My voltage is going form 11.3 too 99.8 when I turn it up is it a wireing issue or is my alternator going out I use to be at 12.5
Usually these meters max out at 18~v and then reads HI so something seems off. I would upgrade your electrical.
@@JacobViral2 I got 2 batteries should I up the alternator
@@PhilTooTrill It's recommended yes, especially if running over 1.5-2k rms
@@JacobViral2 yea I got a 3000 watt amp and a 1200.1 on the doors
While idle and full tilt at 3k half ohm I drop to 12.5 I'm at 14.3 at idle...when I was at 2ohm is drop to 13.4...so is 12.5 BAD or tolerable?I have no clips of dimming etc...it's a taramps smart3...and car off rests at 12.7
Low 12s isn’t horrible but I would try to stay above 12.6 min and not clip and you’ll be fine.
@@JacobViral2 So with the engine running i should be seeing around 14v and engine off around 12.6?
So correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the alternator the best place? I have mines hooked up to my alternator
Battery provides the reserve for the amp and where you have the most draw while your alt has to go through all the wire current so that is another good option aside from back.
hey do you know a lot about soundqubed? im trying to link a bass knob but i have 2 amps so i cant use 2 bass knobs so how can i use just one? i have htx4s off2 2200s
Use the bass knob on the master amp and it controls both if linked. Or an rca bass knob from the head unit before the amps with a rca distribution block.
@@JacobViral2each amp powers one sub they are not linked thats my problem. can i use a rca? when soundqubed uses a phone type cord for theirs? this is my first big build so im trying to do it on my own in a clean 04 escalade on 22s
You have to use two bass knobs unless you have a rca bass knob coming from the head unit in and out rca first before the amps.
My amplifier bass knob has a voltage meter
That works to ;)
Jealous
thumbs up
Thanks jarret
