    1. You look gorgeous
    2. Cleaning a sponge in the dishwasher is a great idea because the salts in the dishwasher detergent kill off bacteria very thoroughly. On that front it beats the microwave method by far
    3. I recently found a "hack" where they recommended cleaning the oven racks using coffee. Have you tried that? In the video it looked impressively effective, but if course it would and I haven't gotten around to try it myself yet.
Thank you so much for your videos, they have been truly life changing for me

You may want to look up about the new studies about cleaning our sponges other than normal soap and water. They are saying that the newer recommendations are causing super bugs on our sponges. I think the can opener would be a good area to discuss cleaning.

I just came across your videos recently and I'm a bit obsessed. I was wondering though if you've seen the new study that was reported by the New York Times on how washing and microwaving your sponges can actually cause some bacteria to grow even more. They said the best things to do are either throw them out and replace them frequently or if you really want to repurpose them then you should wash them in the washing machine and then use them in the bathroom or for other similar situations.

I have cleaned homes for years now and have a few tips! I like to use the small square white cotton auto cleaning cloths to get a gentle scrub on surfaces. I have LOTS so that I can toss it into a spare bucket for the wash (bleachable) and never reuse it after it is used in a bacteria situation. I do not like to use the multi coloured (very inexpensive) micro fibre cloths that seem to just push the dirt around. (just like sponge mops) I also purshase a packages of scrubby sponges that includes colour choices. Mine are a white, a blue and a green small rectangle pad. I keep the white ones for stove tops, counter tops and sinks, the blue one for bathtubs?showers and the green for toilets. I wash them in small lingerie bags so they don't cling to other items.
    I thank Clean My Space for many helpful tips especially dangling the toilet brush under the seat to dry after use trick! Can you imagine how many filthy brush stands I have cleaned over the past 30 years!! Then there are the plungers!! My idea is to purchase a flower pot that has an attatched drain plate to place that stinker in!!! (;

First of all, I can't believe I am watching a you tube channel on cleaning!! I want to give everyone a hack when it comes to sponges, at the end of the evening when I am done cleaning the kitchen, I rinse my sponge then squirt a line of antibacterial hand soap down the center. I then would add a bit if water and lather is up. Then I LEAVE IT! I take medicine that suppresses my immune system, so I am serious about germs! And this works. I also have several scrub brushes. Using these make my sponges last longer. And, lastly, I put my sponge in the microwave once a week to "nuke" out any germs that may even think about showing up! I also keep paper towels in my bathrooms so I don't reuse a towel over and over again. This saves me from using antibacterial liquid that ruins your nails!

Hey Melissa, would be great to know more about how often you clean curtains. I would launder them maybe annually normally but when I had to catsit for a couple of months I found myself lint rolling every couple of days and doing a wash once a quarter. Does that sound about right?
I also wanted to mention a tip I use for laundry. See most people I know sort by colour when using their tri-sorter but I've always sorted by cycle type (cotton/synthetic/delicates and handwash), colour is something that we can distinguish really quick when sorting out a cycle type but doing it by cycle after a colour then you have to spend 10 or so minutes just looking at labels. What do you think?

I got inspired by At home with Nikki and replaced sponges with clothes that my mom crocheted for me. All of them are white so it's much easier to keep them clean as you can wash them easily. Love it. It's a great hack and eco-friendly (deffinitely a better solution than sponges / in my humble opinion).

Food Network had a show that tested the baking soda odor removal properties and found them lacking to nonexistent. Activated charcoal seems to actually work very well, but requires a lot of flat open aired surface area to work, so it would best be suspended underneath a shelf to work without taking up valuable storage space.

My biggest peeve about cleaning the kitchen, and not the question you asked, is that...manufacturers of kitchen appliances do not make dishwasher safe parts. Fridge shelves, bins, oven racks, top stove burner racks, bbq grills, microwave turntable etc. But want to know what is dishwasher safe? The removable, and replaceable rubber shield that covers the drain on the garbage disposal.
Back in the day when my mom had an old GE Fridge, the bins were painted metal, and a few chrome racks. She would clean/sanitize them in the dishwasher every so often.

    • @kathym.9140

I just wanted to say something about the Ikea cabinets. We remodeled our kitchen and put Ikea cabinets in it. About six years after we installed them one of the doors got slightly damaged. I thought no problem. I'll just go down to Ikea and buy a new door. I got a big surprise when I was told that Ikea changes out the models approximately every 5 years and you cannot find any replacement doors for the discontinued models.
The door isn't all that damaged so I guess I'll just live with it. Eventually we will probably change all the cabinets but you can be sure it won't be from Ikea again. I love Ikea for many things but the kitchen cabinets just irked me. They tell you they have a 25 year guarantee but what good is it if you can't find replacements.

My 'How often to clean' question??? How often to shampoo carpets & upholstery? And stain protection on them after every wash or less? How often to wash drapes? 2x/yr? that 'seems' right IDK? Maybe also the throw rugs at exit/entrances? I usually vacuum them/shake them out and then just throw them away after 2-3 years...I could do better on that! Thanks for your Video!

    Love your videos so delightful
May I add that my ultimate cleaning tip is to lightly wipe every single surface in your kitchen with a paper towel with mineral oil.
it gets up water spots makes everything shiny and then when your husband makes a total mess out of the kitchen everything just wiped clean.
also before he even starts I put sheets sometimes several layers of just wax paper and as he makes a mess on one sheet he just balls that up and throws it away and has a clean surface right underneath it with the next layer.
The wax paper kind of acts as a paper towel as well

I line my kitchen recycle bins (which are the same as a tall kitchen garbage container) with a garbage bag. It cuts down on having to clean the bins. I rotate my containers so a dirty recycle bag becomes my garbage bag. Thanks for your video tips.

How often to clean (and an easier way) radiators. I do it once a yr but that doesn't seem to be enough. Plus it's a struggle and that's why I put it off lol. Thanks

This is so so useful Melissa! Thanks so much. Honestly, I'd like this series for literally every part of house and even other things like the car, garage etc. Do you have a full cleaning routine that I could possibly use as a template for my own routine? xxx

What does a good cleaning schedule actually look like? I just read your book and the chart at the end is SO overwhelming. How do I translate that into something that works for me?

I don't know what she has in her book, but maybe I can offer a suggestion. Take a pad of paper and walk around your house. Label each sheet with the name of the room, bedroom 1, bedroom 2, office, living room, kitchen, bathroom , patio, yard, etc, you get the idea. Write what needs to be done in these rooms, everything, from daily cleans to occasional cleans. Then sit down and plan your week according to how much time you want to give cleaning a day and how many days you clean. So maybe Monday is living room, just do living room, hit all the things you wrote down for living room. Or maybe you can only clean two days a week so you do living room and office that day. Once you have your whole week through you will have cleaned your whole house. Also in your list would be things that don't need to be done everyday, so figure out if you want to have a special project day a month for say washing curtains, things that aren't daily cleans. You have to customize it to how dirty you are, like if you have kids and pets or it's just you and your mate, things don't get as dirty. I could go on. I got my best cleaning advice from Flylady! Goodluck!

happyflowers1212 sorry I do not know how the dark vinegar would effect the fabrics. There is also a cleaning strength here which I would avoid using when rinsing clothing.
