    1. You look gorgeous
    2. Cleaning a sponge in the dishwasher is a great idea because the salts in the dishwasher detergent kill off bacteria very thoroughly. On that front it beats the microwave method by far
    3. I recently found a "hack" where they recommended cleaning the oven racks using coffee. Have you tried that? In the video it looked impressively effective, but if course it would and I haven't gotten around to try it myself yet.
    Thank you so much for your videos, they have been truly life changing for me

    My personal tips for anyone reading is to not forget to also clean behind the stove and behind the fridge about every 3 months. A lot of dust and crumbs accumulate back there. Another thing is to remember to clean your fridges vent and coils often to keep your fridge running for many years ☺️

    Your videos are informative and I like them a lot but I have to point out you consume a lot of material!( less than most of the channels but way more than many countries) If all countries want to live luxury like this, earth would look like a trash can! my grandma was from a poor country and she was not using or tossing out stuff like people in first world countries but she was super clean and she always said a real woman knows how to use the things she has on hand, buying new things is not an art. If you could promote more sustainable ways of cleaning that would be awesome.
    Also micro fibers are so dangerous since they go to water system and if can even enter our own body because of its narrow fibers.
    Imagine our children bodies be filled with these materials🥺.

    First of all, I can't believe I am watching a you tube channel on cleaning!! I want to give everyone a hack when it comes to sponges, at the end of the evening when I am done cleaning the kitchen, I rinse my sponge then squirt a line of antibacterial hand soap down the center. I then would add a bit if water and lather is up. Then I LEAVE IT! I take medicine that suppresses my immune system, so I am serious about germs! And this works. I also have several scrub brushes. Using these make my sponges last longer. And, lastly, I put my sponge in the microwave once a week to "nuke" out any germs that may even think about showing up! I also keep paper towels in my bathrooms so I don't reuse a towel over and over again. This saves me from using antibacterial liquid that ruins your nails!

    Great video! LoVe your videos! I would like to know how to clean vinal flooring and how often. Also I only use my tea towels to dry hands. I wash them every 1 to 2 days, but only after a few times of drying freshly washed hands they start to smell how do I keep that from happening? Also you should do a video on your experience with Invisalign. Like the process you had to go through to get them and how they make them to fit your teeth, how they work, how often you have to go to the dentist, the whole routine you had to go through to get them, how to clean them, how long you have to wear them and what it's like and the cost etc. might be good for your other channel I guess. 😀 do you have a safe DIY product that will dry the dishes in the dishwasher? I just got a Dishwasher and don't want to use that toxic rinse aid. Do you have a care routine for your dishwasher? Thank you! How do you get them to dry? I put it on the dry cycle but in the morning they are still wet😔

    I just came across your videos recently and I'm a bit obsessed. I was wondering though if you've seen the new study that was reported by the New York Times on how washing and microwaving your sponges can actually cause some bacteria to grow even more. They said the best things to do are either throw them out and replace them frequently or if you really want to repurpose them then you should wash them in the washing machine and then use them in the bathroom or for other similar situations.

    Hey Melissa, would be great to know more about how often you clean curtains. I would launder them maybe annually normally but when I had to catsit for a couple of months I found myself lint rolling every couple of days and doing a wash once a quarter. Does that sound about right?
    I also wanted to mention a tip I use for laundry. See most people I know sort by colour when using their tri-sorter but I've always sorted by cycle type (cotton/synthetic/delicates and handwash), colour is something that we can distinguish really quick when sorting out a cycle type but doing it by cycle after a colour then you have to spend 10 or so minutes just looking at labels. What do you think?

    Just started watching this, and mopping...I always try to find easier ways to mop, but I still end up doing the hands and knees method. For whatever reason, it's actually less strenuous on my back, because I can get it into a comfortable posture. Also, I'm at the progressive lenses stage, and I'm always shocked at how much gets left on the floor when I'm done f I do it standing up. Plus, even though the ckeaning itself takes longer, using a ckeaning rag, a rinsing rag and a drying towel while I mop, means that my floors don't Take more than 10 mi uses to dry when I'm done.

      I just wanted to say something about the Ikea cabinets. We remodeled our kitchen and put Ikea cabinets in it. About six years after we installed them one of the doors got slightly damaged. I thought no problem. I'll just go down to Ikea and buy a new door. I got a big surprise when I was told that Ikea changes out the models approximately every 5 years and you cannot find any replacement doors for the discontinued models.
      The door isn't all that damaged so I guess I'll just live with it. Eventually we will probably change all the cabinets but you can be sure it won't be from Ikea again. I love Ikea for many things but the kitchen cabinets just irked me. They tell you they have a 25 year guarantee but what good is it if you can't find replacements.

    • @nancyneyedly4587
      @nancyneyedly4587 7 років тому +2

      I don't know what she has in her book, but maybe I can offer a suggestion. Take a pad of paper and walk around your house. Label each sheet with the name of the room, bedroom 1, bedroom 2, office, living room, kitchen, bathroom , patio, yard, etc, you get the idea. Write what needs to be done in these rooms, everything, from daily cleans to occasional cleans. Then sit down and plan your week according to how much time you want to give cleaning a day and how many days you clean. So maybe Monday is living room, just do living room, hit all the things you wrote down for living room. Or maybe you can only clean two days a week so you do living room and office that day. Once you have your whole week through you will have cleaned your whole house. Also in your list would be things that don't need to be done everyday, so figure out if you want to have a special project day a month for say washing curtains, things that aren't daily cleans. You have to customize it to how dirty you are, like if you have kids and pets or it's just you and your mate, things don't get as dirty. I could go on. I got my best cleaning advice from Flylady! Goodluck!

    Great info thanks! What are the best cleaning sponges? I haven't found any that are very durable or last very long!

      You don't want a sponge to last long because they're so nasty. I throw mine out so often I just purchase them from the Dollar store. The price I used to pay for one scrub daddy sponge, I can buy enough sponges to throw them out every other day.

    My 'How often to clean' question??? How often to shampoo carpets & upholstery? And stain protection on them after every wash or less? How often to wash drapes? 2x/yr? that 'seems' right IDK? Maybe also the throw rugs at exit/entrances? I usually vacuum them/shake them out and then just throw them away after 2-3 years...I could do better on that! Thanks for your Video!

    I have about a million questions like this! How often should shower curtains be laundered? Liners replaced? Bathroom mats/toilet covers /etc. laundered? Curtains (in all rooms)? Coffee maker/grinder? Floor mats indoor/outdoor? Mattresses? Couches?

    Silicone oven mitts are AMAZING. If food gets on them, you can just rinse it with your hand still in it under the kitchen tap, just like washing your hands, and wipe it off on paper towel or tea towel. Literally stays so much cleaner than fabric ones!!

    I have cleaned homes for years now and have a few tips! I like to use the small square white cotton auto cleaning cloths to get a gentle scrub on surfaces. I have LOTS so that I can toss it into a spare bucket for the wash (bleachable) and never reuse it after it is used in a bacteria situation. I do not like to use the multi coloured (very inexpensive) micro fibre cloths that seem to just push the dirt around. (just like sponge mops) I also purshase a packages of scrubby sponges that includes colour choices. Mine are a white, a blue and a green small rectangle pad. I keep the white ones for stove tops, counter tops and sinks, the blue one for bathtubs?showers and the green for toilets. I wash them in small lingerie bags so they don't cling to other items.
    I thank Clean My Space for many helpful tips especially dangling the toilet brush under the seat to dry after use trick! Can you imagine how many filthy brush stands I have cleaned over the past 30 years!! Then there are the plungers!! My idea is to purchase a flower pot that has an attatched drain plate to place that stinker in!!! (;

    I clearly over clean...but i'm cool with it. I deep clean my fridge every two weeks. I do my oven once a month, microwave every week. Every week I wipe all surfaces, kitchen tiles and cupboard fronts, and I clean my bin every week too. I cannot stand the thought of germs or bacteria! EWWWWW.What are your thoughts of spray mops?

    I just realized this video is 5 years old, so I don't know if you'll see this. Can you manually clean a self-cleaning oven? Mine needs it, but my clock doesn't work, so the cleaning feature won't work.

    My biggest peeve about cleaning the kitchen, and not the question you asked, is that...manufacturers of kitchen appliances do not make dishwasher safe parts. Fridge shelves, bins, oven racks, top stove burner racks, bbq grills, microwave turntable etc. But want to know what is dishwasher safe? The removable, and replaceable rubber shield that covers the drain on the garbage disposal.
    Back in the day when my mom had an old GE Fridge, the bins were painted metal, and a few chrome racks. She would clean/sanitize them in the dishwasher every so often.

    Do you think it would look professional if you titled the video How Often Should I Clean It? - Kitchen Edition, instead of the all caps without the subcategory. Idk just a thought.

    happyflowers1212 sorry I do not know how the dark vinegar would effect the fabrics. There is also a cleaning strength here which I would avoid using when rinsing clothing.

    I am surprised you still use kitchen sponges! I ditched them years ago, so many germs! I use a microfiber cloths (that YOU taught me) and change it daily! So it is always fresh.
    The oven - you can get a very large shallow aluminum tray for the bottom of the oven to catch all the spills.

    I know I'm supposed to clean exterior doors and storm doors more often than once every 10 years, but until I retired, I just never seemed to get to it. The consequence is that all my brass hardware is really nasty. Do you have a natural brass polish formula, and how often should doorknobs be polished to keep them looking nice and corrosion-free?

    Thanks for these reminders! I have an issue with cleaning cloths, they get dirty I change them everyday, but that leaves me with a stinky bag of cloths , not yet enough to fill up even half a load of laundry. What to do? As for your question : I wonder how often should I clean my rugs and carpets? Ps I hate those sponges too!
