"Sometimes a cephalid gets weird about his gloves"
That’s an interesting looking Sol Ring at 4:26
That combo finish was wild and I didn't know that you could do that
Yeah, its weird to think of equipment as targeting the creature you put it on. But its also why you can't equip stuff to creatures with lightning greaves or other sources of shroud
@@nyancat9456 and now that I'm thinking about it I remember seeing an old janky combo from some deck as a kid that did this for infinite life gain
Edit: it's weird that it can do this and it's not even intuitive
Misha tutored for those gloves, and red flags began going off in my head. That combination was amazing!
Funny how it's often the player that's left alone due to minimal interaction that steals the game in the end
funny yet also a little upsetting!
Generally a good strategy tbh. If you don't attract the attention, people won't focus on you, even sometimes forget about you. I often play big scary commanders/tribes, Maelstrom wanderer, Lathliss, The Ur Dragon, so people know what to expect and I,m often the first people use their resources on and then someone else wins because people already used their resources. I should be that player more. But I like big beefy creatures.
That's generally how I play my Azami control deck. I usually don't develop my board at all beyond mana rocks and Azami, and people ignore me until I have 10 open blue, a grip of countermagic, and the counterbalance lock.
...Unfortunately it only works once.
Yep. I play Urza, (a thopter/copy creature build mind you ) and I get targeted just because of who I’m using, which is understandable. But it does get lame when you’re targeted for what you COULD do rather than what you ARE doing. It was a nice win from behind.
A Cephalid Breakfast combo! Wow that takes me back.
At 4:25 Ben plays a Sol Ring but the visual is Thran Dynamo. Another great vid!
It would be neat if spotting that was part of a treasure hunt of some kind
Misha casted a mystic retrieval for 3 at 2:59
Nick automatically wins for having those gorgeous Islands
I think that’s the weirdest win I’ve ever seen
I mean... I did not know that you can equip something on the same card but that is because most people play either Nomads en-Kor for easy tutoring (both cards are creatures so Protean Hulk can get them) or Greaves since they are generally more useful, but other than that Cephalid Breakfast is one of the oldest combos there is. It gets played a lot in cEDH. I was hoping to at least see some interesting finish involving the commander.
Here is an article from 8 years ago about this kind of combo: magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/cephalid-breakfast-2011-03-30 Even back then it was a blast from the past.
That's a pretty stock line of win in cEDH decks. The Cephalid is very common in breakfast hulk and is combo'd with the Nomads to deck themselves.
I knew what was coming when the Shuko showed up and was very surprised that nobody picked up on that except Nick.
Eric made some strange decisions with when he moved his Sword of the Animist, not doing it before combat in one instance when he clearly could and then doing so before blowing it and the creature up with the Austere Command. It didn't strictly matter, but it was strange to watch.
Also very interesting to learn that you can re-equip an equipment to the creature it's already equipped to over and over again. I'm curious to see what other applications that could have.
The re-equip thing is usually used for combos with stuff that says "whenever it becomes the target of a spell or ability".
Daru Spiritualist does a similar thing where is gets +0/2 when it becomes the target of a spell or ability. Put shuko on it and sac it to Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim for infinite life.
@@Thermobeatz2
Task Force and Angelic Protector also.
What on earth is shuko in misha’s deck for
Edit: Oh. Oh. I see.
I didn't know that you could re-equip equipment to the creature that it's already equipped to! The more you know! 😄
As a huge fan of equips myself...this is a HUGE shock for me as well!!
Sorry but the Geralf deck killing Gisa should be an instant game loss.
That was such a weird combo, I loved it. I also really liked seeing the Sylvia + Khorvarth deck in action!
Also I’m seriously impressed with that combo for Sevinne. My Sevinne deck is more centered around copying spells, winning with infinite mana into an X burn spell, but this might change my mind and my deck a bit.
Whoa, Cephalid Breakfast. Haven't seen that in ages.
Misha went unchecked THE ENTIRE GAME! As soon as I noticed I knew it was a wrap
Kinda triggering how the table ignored one player that almost played alone and won.
These decks are incredibly unique and awesome. Always refreshing to see decks like these!
Always happy to see more Savra :D
so why was sevinne the commander? his effect only worked like once
"Ben plays Mikaeus, a combo piece he insists he doesn't abuse"
Everything looks so crisp this game! Excellent work
I did NOT expect Sévinne labman. Wow. Kind of impressed. I built mine more like a control-then-copy-6-banefires spellslinger nonsense deck.
I’ve been wanting to build Sevinne but wasn’t sure what to use as a wincon. Thanks Misha for the inspiration!
Hell yea! Ron Spencer "Squirrels vs. Wolf" mat. I got the same one. See you got some class at the table! Edit: Nice win, Misha!
Wow that win was hilarious. I love the way you described it too. "A cephalid gets weird about his gloves."
This is a mad lab combo I actually didn't hate.
I guess only old men like me know about Cephalid Breakfast. Shuko in a blue deck sends shivers down my spine
I would like to know Misha's decklist
+1000
Hahahahaha she told everyone "hold my brew"
Keeps ramping with a sol ring...*shows thran dynamo* was confused for a second since the void winnower is out.
Why did she include Shuko in her deck? Cool art but I'm kinda lost. Maybe a pet card of hers? If anyone has an answer, I'm all ears.
Edit: ***INCOMING SPOILERS*** (hadn't finished the episode before commenting the earlier comment) Oh wow that was actually a really really cool combo. Did not expect that, especially from Sevinne. That has to be the only time I've ever been okay watching someone win with Lab Maniac.
Cephalid Sage is part of an old Extended combo and deck titled "Cephalid Breakfast."
Cool game - yes please get the list from Misha !
Cephelid Illusionist has been a sleeper in my collection for about a decade. He's certainly a sweet little card!
These are cool commanders to see in action.
Good on you Misha! Definitely abusing the fact that the precon for Jeskai just will not perish, going combo is the best way to go.
For real though. People would switch to Elsha, but with Sevinne, Pristine Angel, pristine sky wise, ghostly prison, and 2 fog effects, with a built in way to loop one of them, my first game ended because I figured I had no way to win and we wanted to start another game. Opponent was on an arbitrary life total. Not infinite, but we stopped counting after the combo of Rhys, Trostani, seedborn muse, and a board of tokens got him over 600.
New to this channel but love what you guys are doing 👌🏼
Where the fuck did that combo on Misha's side fucking come from?!?! That was amazingly sneaky, I love it!
Definitely didn't know about that equipment ruling. That is useful information so glad I watched this game. Pretty awesome win con.
I know, right? Misha was super patient with us since like the whole table didn't think she could. Big thanks to her for showing us the error of our ways!
I've always wanted to build a Sylvia x Korvath deck but they're Boros and I could never make them work well. I'm only mid way into the episode while commenting but I'm pretty impressed and happy to see Eric's deck. Takes a lot from me to give respect to someone named Eric (bad experience with ex best friend)
when you see shuko in edh that could mean only 2 things....
1. that player is playing sram so its another way to draw more cards
2. he is going to combo off
Well, shit. I did not see that play coming at all, and I was pleasantly surprised by Misha's win at the end there. Nice game!
Again love seeing eldrazi themed decks in edh. Thanks Nick
The sevinne and boros decks wer really unique and cool
^I second the Sylvia|Khorvat list. Thank you and more games
Wow! That Shuko play is amazing!
Darn, I was hoping to see a Sylvia deck list.
What a savory selection of sweet spellslingers to stomp through this game
Yay finally some Sevinne.
Here comes Misha out of literally nowhere.
At about 8:10 savra never died that requires going to the grave
Muddstah why you lie to us
Still don’t see Misha’s deck in the description. ☹️
What a weird combo, definitely something I have never seen before. It came out of nowhere, and I'd say it's a successful game if everyone learned something new!
Yeah, was nice too cause by that point the game was looking like one that may've ended up being VERY grindy.
Really love this layout!
Can you please add a link to the decklist? Your videos are the best, keep up the good work!
3:00 - Mystic retrieval cost four from hand unless I am missing something.
You're right! I think it was an oversight due to nervousness. Misha could have cast it the following turn either way.
Very true. Didn’t make any difference in the game. Just something that I noticed.
that was an out of the blue combo. BUT totally legit.
Well It was actually very blue... LabMan... You know........
@Varler good point!!
hmmm think it's worth running a cephalid illusionist in a Kenrith deck as well?
didn't know about that equip rule, pretty interesting
Always love your videos mtgmuddstah! BTW, never stop calling it The sword of the Anime. :)
2:25 had to rewind to see that he must have used the 2 new islands to cast that sky diamond
That was a surprise win
Shuko. Hmmm, that's a strange card to tutor, it must be part of some weird combo I don't know. Well the other guys at the table don't seem worried, so maybe it's just a "weird flex, but ok" moment.
*10 minutes later*
What the hell just happened? Is this cEDH? Where am I? What's going on?
EDIT : Also that Sylvia/Khorvath deck was a joy to watch!
Ben's Sol Ring looked a lot like a Thran Dynamo XD
I tried commander for the first time about a week ago at my shop, and i enjoyed it but there were a couple people that had/used some pretty (what seems to me at least) competitive decks that walked away with the game basically. Am i forced to also build a deck like that that costs a great deal of money? Or is it still possible to make a deck under a budget. I don't expect to destroy everyone but i don't want to feel completely over run every game. ty in advance for any replies :D
You can make some very strong decks on a budget. Check out Commander's Quarters on UA-cam for some great tips and deck techs for cheap
Look in to a channel called "commanders quarters" he builds relatively high power decks for under $50, shipping included.
I personally am using an upgraded version of his gitrog build and love it.
Also worth noting, you can almost always build a really high power deck for under $150, most often under $100. I'm not sure what your budget is, but food for thought.
Also, welcome to the world of EDH!
With some creative deckbuilding you can make some pretty powerful decks. Not everything needs to be a $1000+ deck.
You can easily make a focused deck under a budget, I happen to be the budget player at my LGS and while I don't win too often I get to go off in some spectacular ways a lot of the time. If you want some ideas or guidance for making decks on a budget I recommend looking up Commander's Quarters. They have a ton of content for those on a tighter budget. (I do hope its alright to plug another channel in here...)
Ah a good ol' commander game with the quad s.
Eric had some odd choices/misplays or he might have eaten some people. Solid combo off Misha, especially recurrable with that set up.
Any luck on Eric's decklist?
4:34 - That Vandal has an even CMC and shouldn't have been able to block. Minor thing though, really.
What I learned was that equipment doesn't have a means to unequip besides removal from the field and paying for a new target. Like the copy rule, the effect only does what it says, nothing more.
This is the rule on equipments:
702.6a Equip is an activated ability of Equipment cards. “Equip [cost]” means “[Cost]: Attach this permanent to target creature you control. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.”
There's no "the target creature cannot be the same one equipped" or "it has to be another creature". The equipment never becomes unattached, but it does the effect of the equip ability, then activating effects like "when this creature becomes target of a spell or ability". You were half right, it does not unequip per se.
Come to Toronto and play at A & C, I have a sweet Medomai deck I'd love to have on the show! Also I do finger puppets (ok not really).
Anyone else find it hilarious that prematurely blowing up Scavenging Grounds to "stop" Misha actually caused her to win?
Where can I get some of those islands nick is using those are nice
OOOOHHHHHH nice win!
2:57 Misha plays Mystic Retrieval from hand for three? After screwing up with Prairie Stream? Shameful.... Nice Cephalid Breakfast though. Good on for Ben bringing Savra to the table, always rooting for her.
Shameful is a weird word to use, but I thought that was weird too
Did you get the list? I need to find out how to make my Sylvia and Khorvath better.
Get Sword of the Anime out on turn 2 like they did lol
Why didn't Ben sac mikaeus to the high market?
Could you say “hey gang, and welcome back” again? It hurts me to not hear the whole thing.
You said the self-equipping thing wouldn't work with lightning greaves, why is that? Wouldn't it work the same way?
My guess is that the shroud is on the stack when re-equiping
4:34 he blocked with an even cmc creature with winnower out
Good old Ghetto Breakfast, my favorite
Why wouldn't Ben sac mikaeus to the land instead. ...
Death triggers from Savra around 8:27 wouldn’t happen if he put Savra in the command zone, correct?
Savra only cares that something is sacrificed, not that it dies.
MTG Muddstah Ah okay that makes sense. Thanks.
Such silly sequencing. Super show.
Ah yes the good old mono-blue eldrazi...ramp? Weird draw lol
Shouldn't the zombie tokens have been killed by Austere Command?
He chose creatures with CMC 4 or greater and they were tokens with 0 CMC. Guessing you got it mixed with 4 or more power?
@@1ts13rad yep, realized that almost immediately after posting and forgot to delete, haha
No decklist?
How mant different commamder decks do you guys have?
World_War_Dragons Gaming I play at many shops with many different people. It’s pretty much endless in variety!
@@MTGMuddstah in that case, love your videos, keep up the great work, these are very fun to watch
I was like, why would you play an abysmal equipment to give +1/+0 in a spellslinger deck. And shortly after, oh that's why. I knew this was suspicious.
Ya bois got Breakfast'd.
i went through the video frame by frame and could only find 46 of the cards that showed up on screen for the sevinne deck here is a link while we wait for the full list
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sevinne-combo/?cb=1575597468
3:34
...... Sam o’ nella?
Typicaly the game i would be "ok, this combo works, we saw it, never do it again, thk"
I'm happy nobody in my playgroup use the "maniac win". It's so uninteresting and "i don't care what you gonna do, i'm playing alone".
But we like weird wins.
Last month, i won with commander damages with my gonti deck against a mono-white angel. 11 attack phases. Epic win. Will stay in our memories ^^
Lab-man self mill, boo
4:25 that’s not a sol ring
I usually try to overlook creature art...but Sylvia's helmet triggers me pretty hard. Horrible design lol.
Cephalid Breakfast in edh? Rad
