Oh my goodness, thank you! I actually made two in an afternoon. Your directions and video were perfect, I had no problems. I used cotton fabric and ironed on interfacing to make it a little stiff.
Love it! I think I might make a "liner" out of muslin to keep the filling in and then you can leave the zipper open, and just wash the cover without having to empty it. . So cute! Thanks for sharing.
I think for this I would need to make a muslin "sack" to put all the stuffing in - I'm just thinking about when it's time to wash. Another great tutorial, Melanie! Thank you!
Yep you could totally do that! You may still need to take out some of the stuffing to get the muslin out of the main portion, but it would help I'm sure!
This video was great! Just what I needed to sew my own poufs for four kids. I'm also going to make an inner casing so I can more easily launder the outer cover. I love bull denim since it's just about impossible to wear out, so that will be my outer cover. Inside cover can be any old fabric swatches or old sheeting that I have on hand. I used old IKEA cotton drapes as the inner casings for my slipcovered sofa seat cushions, for example. Thanks for taking the time to showcase your sewing technique. Makes it sew easy!
I'm moving into my new place and it's a lift and I was thinking what is super cute yet still easy to make and put away..I literally remembered wanting to do an idea like this, but your idea is so much better!!!! definitely going to make these soon!
Great tutorial Melanie, I will certainly add this idea to my "have to make" list. Must be honest though, I will probably make an inner for my poef to make washing a lot easier. Love the idea, thank you.
This is great! I've wanted to make a "bean bag" like this for a very long time. The other tutorial I have saved is a baseball-type pattern for a more rounded edge. That pattern didn't have any corners. But I'm glad you covered that in this video because I could never understand why we had to worry about that last 1/2". You give such clear direction! You're super articulate and I appreciate that so much. I can't wait to make this! Thank you, Melanie :) I look forward to your future home sewing series!
I love your pouf!! I have made lots of bean bags, but this will be a great additional to the living room to prop feet up, etc. I will make it with a muslin bag to contain all of the beads, like I do for my bean bag chairs. As long as the zipper is the same length as one of the sides, it should be fairly easy to stuff back in after washing, etc. Love it! Thanks for a great tutorial! :)
The video is easy to follow. One question, how do you wash it if it gets dirty? There is no inner layer. The pouf is stuffed with shredded foam and bean bag fillers. It will be very messy to take them out to wash the cover.
Thank you. I will make some for the kids rooms. I've been putting it off but, it really is very easy - well you make it look so and you are a good teacher :). Looking forward to your series.
I LOVE this idea! Can't wait to make one for each Grand Child! I think I could use 2 in my own family room! I might need a dump truck full of fill though! Looking forward to making these! Thanks for the great instructions!
An alternative to recovering it with a zipper is to make a bottomless cover with using elastic around the bottom of it. You would have to make it a couple of inches taller to compensate for it it not having flat tops and flat bottoms. Mine expanded 4 inches, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. Works great with a rocking chair, The otterman moves back and forth with you as you rock away when resting your feet on the ottorman... Scotch Guarding mine.
I'm looking forward to the new series! I am curious about the small cube, would it be the same idea as the pouf but without the zipper? I would like to make small cube for a pin cushion. I bought a big bag of crushed walnut shells and thought the small cube would be great for that project.
Okay I finished making this and just want everyone to know THIS THING IS HUGE! Way bigger than I expected so if you don’t want a giant one I would size it down to like 18x18
I love this! I've been seeing these at target for $60-$75 for a couple of years but this looks easy enough for even me (who knows how to use a sewing machine just enough to sew ribbons onto cloth diapers/burp cloths) Do you know the original dimensions of your throw blanket? I think most are typically 50" by 60"
It was close to that, mine was a little longer than 60 inches, it was definitely more rectangular. This cost me about $45. The most expensive part is the stuffing ;)
About to try this next weekend! But making floor pillows not poof. But how can you wash this if you stuffed it with loose fill? It's gonna be a mess to take that all out to wash. I thought you were going to make an inner pillow just for the filling
I'm making a pouf cover from faux suede (it's the very first one I've done) and I'm having problems with attaching the top to the sides. Do I stop at each corner or continue on? As it's a different fabric I thought there may be a different method of doing this?
hey! I loved watching almost all your videos really helpful. please can you post a video to teach how to sew a T-shirt with mesh or net material. net sleeves. thank-you!
You could make a second one out of an old sheet or something without a zipper. Then stuff and put it in the outer one that way you can just unzip the cover and wash that.
How much would I have to shrink this by to make a liner? I think be nice to have a liner so my 20something year old cousin might not burst it everywhere
Beautiful. I loved how you sewed the corners as that made such a neat and tidy job. I would have cut the bottom panel in half (after adding extra for seam allowance) and put the zip in the middle of the bottom. Would have been easier than trying to have it in the corners.
And made an internal cover so that the outer could be washed without having to empty it - or if you wanted to change the cover. Just an idea - Mum did that with our bean bags.
Awesome, but why wouldn’t you make 1 from a sheet or muslin then make a nice cover that you can take off to wash ... what are you going to do with the stuffing when you clean the cover???? Excellent tutorial tho!

Love it! I think I might make a "liner" out of muslin to keep the filling in and then you can leave the zipper open, and just wash the cover without having to empty it. . So cute! Thanks for sharing.
i totally agree with you, make one to hold the stuffing then make an outer case to wash

You made this so easy! I am creating a stuffable pouf to store extra bedding in our camper! Thank you!
Your explanation was phenomenal. I love it.
The corner tutorial part was so well explained.
I'm moving into my new place and it's a lift and I was thinking what is super cute yet still easy to make and put away..I literally remembered wanting to do an idea like this, but your idea is so much better!!!!

Awesome ..loved the way you stitched it and color is really cool..
Thank you for this tutorial!!!!! The corners were always a pain for me but you explained it so well they came out perfect. 🙃
I am so excited for this series!
Was shopping for one of these $60-105 this is great and finally a good cordless glue gun!
The video is easy to follow. One question, how do you wash it if it gets dirty? There is no inner layer. The pouf is stuffed with shredded foam and bean bag fillers. It will be very messy to take them out to wash the cover.

besides the talent nd everything u r also a great teacher.i am a huge fan
What a cute idea! I am curious why there is no inner lining so that when you wash the outside everything doesn't spill everywhere?
That was my thought as well, it's nice you can wash the cover but unloading it to do so will be so messy.
Cannot wait to see more of this series!!!
Hi Melanie, is there any chance you could do a crochet floor pouffe tutorial pretty please , I find your videos easy to follow 💚
I'm looking forward to the new series! I am curious about the small cube, would it be the same idea as the pouf but without the zipper? I would like to make small cube for a pin cushion. I bought a big bag of crushed walnut shells and thought the small cube would be great for that project.
Thank you! It turned out great, no problems!
So inspiring! Love it! I'm going out right now to get some thrifted tablecloths. Thank you, Melanie!
Okay I finished making this and just want everyone to know THIS THING IS HUGE! Way bigger than I expected so if you don’t want a giant one I would size it down to like 18x18
Just saw the video. You were really great. What would you suggest for an outdoor poof. Crazy question, but should it be weighted?
This is amazing!! 😍😍
Thanks so much girl! Love your channel :)
Love it! I think I might also make tiny ones for my baby to play with!

Others here have mentioned they made two covers, an inner and outer which I think is a great idea.
Thank you, I love this floor pouf, and I'm looking forward to your new home series!
I love this!! Great weekend project and very cute!!
Wow, this is amazing! I need (at least) one for our living room! Thank you for the video!!

hey! I loved watching almost all your videos really helpful. please can you post a video to teach how to sew a T-shirt with mesh or net material. net sleeves. thank-you!
Hey there! So just to clarify you need 6 squares 20inches by 20 inches?
Love it! I will most definitely make one of these! Looking forward to your series! Thanks!
I think I'll be giving this a try. Thanks
Cool project!
love this video. Thank you Melanie. x
making this now! I used faux leather instead of a throw blanket
Instead of using a throw blanket can you use fabric? If so what kind would you recommend?
Look in the fabric shop for the curtain material, or sofa pillow fabric...heavier and more durable..stain resistant usually..so wipe off spills.
I've been wanting to make a couple of these! thank you for explaining it so well.
that was amazing, im going to buy a couple of throws now
So cute!
love the video!
I don't envy you having to empty that when it needs washing. love the tutorial though, very well explained thankyou :-)
You could make a second one out of an old sheet or something without a zipper. Then stuff and put it in the outer one that way you can just unzip the cover and wash that.
Beth Ann
amazing work....thanks so much 😍😍
Wow super!! Can you please make a video on how sew a t- shirt

Good job
I am sewing too.
Any videos on round pouf?
Thank yoi
Love you Mel…RIP
How much would I have to shrink this by to make a liner? I think be nice to have a liner so my 20something year old cousin might not burst it everywhere
That's so cool!
It's Very nice enjoy the video!!! Thank you for sharing!
Loved it😊. Thanks
Hi Melanie Can I Ask What Sewing Machine Are You Using
Love you ma'am 👌
Wow! You aer awesome! Going to try this!
At the beginning you said this is washable, how would you ever get out all the filling to wash it?
Awesome, but why wouldn’t you make 1 from a sheet or muslin then make a nice cover that you can take off to wash ... what are you going to do with the stuffing when you clean the cover???? Excellent tutorial tho!
can you do a crochet version of this?
and thnks for the diy idea can u plss let me know how to make center table with waste material as me and my husband we recently shif5 in a new home but we don't have the furniture budgets so that's why but plss
Loved it
Love it am going to try this, thank you 🇬🇧😁x
Love this
Thanks Rach!!
+Melanie Ham this is so cool 😊😊
Totally lost me at sewing the zipper.
and she cut the zipper where there is a stopper...
and a stopper is made for the head zipper doesn't get out of the rail... like a train! You doesn't want your head train get out of the road while doing reverse down the alley. 😂
she make the sewing a zipper totally difficult for nothing, of course!
Very nice 👍🏻
You should call it handmade home decor with Melanie I love this video wish I could make one but I don't know how to sew :(
I think this could totally work as a stuffed animal storage for my kid. We have so many that is getting out of control
What happened when you need to wash the pouffe cover? I imagine you need to empty it?
