This interesting conversation left me with much to ponder; especially the nuance between attributes and skills and providing the environment and experiences versus skill teaching.

I particular liked when they mentioned about gratitude and being in the driver's seat of your own emotions. Having gratitude for your experiences whether they are good, bad and ugly, is a great strategy to put yourself in the driver's seat. Great conversation.

Dear Dr Marc, Rich and Cory
Thank you for sharing with us.
Listening to former navy seals was very interesting and new to me.
    1. I loved the phrase that “emotions can be used for enhancement of performance” or to the “detriment of performance”. This is a great tag line or catchphrase that should be seen and heard more often.
    2. I was interested in how the teams “listened to each others’ emotions” without actually saying the line “well, let’s talk about our feelings today guys”. Cory mentioned that they would sit around a campfire and start talking and automatically someone’s emotional stressors may come up. I think this is an interesting strategy to sit with another as they go through something difficult without actually proclaiming or announcing that “processing feelings” is what the brotherhood is actually about to do.
    3. I enjoyed the reminder from Rich about the limbic system and the Neo-frontal cortex functions. Particularly how we should focus on response and not reactions…not many people understand the biology of an emotional hijacking or the fight or flight response. I learnt about it only during my reading for graduate studies and it was a reminder that this biological understanding of emotional experiences should be more prominent in basic education.
Thank you guys for sharing your strategies. 🩵
