I think it would be possible. I’m my earlier videos I document my failed attempt at doing just that. The trick would be having a nutrient base for the roots and capping it with sand to keep the nutrients out of the water column to keep the algae at bay. A few shrimp as cleanup crew wouldn’t hurt either.
