- See how the plants and fish are doing after 7 months, how’s the new filter system working? There’s also an important life lesson that I’m learning from this tank.
@SerpaDesign was a big inspiration to me for the design for this tank.

"Enjoy what is happening now" - GOLD! Thanks man! so glad I stumbled upon your video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow what you said at the end was so profound. Hearing that just brightened my day. I recently came across your channel and now I’m hooked. Your content is so calming and therapeutic. Thank you good sir.
You are so welcome, glad you found this helpful!
Nice! Nature in harmony.
Thanks for sharing the bodhisattva in you. As always an enjoyable view.
💚Wise words at the end. I have high blood pressure and needed that. Thanks so much! 💚
This tank looks great. Looking forward to the next update and plenum comparison.
BTW, Andrew, I recently bought a bunch of the products from Poth-o-carry that you recommended, shifted my plants from what I had them in before to those products, and moved them around in both of my 29g tanks. One of them, I had parlor palm that was really struggling in the shadow of the pothos and Syngonium growing like gangbusters. Shifting the plants around (and trimming out of control Syngonium) to allow the parlor palm more light has already made a tremendous difference. It's suddenly putting on height and new leaves. On the other tank, I shifted some Dieffenbachia that was being a light hog away from the light and put other plants that grow lower between it and the light. All of those have improved, too. Those products really make it easy to move plants around, so thanks for the recommendation!
That’s great to hear! These are definitely helpful planters , thanks!
Wow, that tradescantia is very red! Mine is bright like yours, but it is more of a deep purple.
Mine's purple, too. That red is gorgeous, but I don't think I've ever seen any that color. Would love to get my hands on some of that.
It gets brighter red the more light it gets
@@plantlifeproject I recently moved mine, so it's much closer to bright light now. It'll be interesting to see if it gets deeper purple or turns red.
Those pothos are so lush and great looking! Kitty litter is certainly the most likely explanation as to why tannins disappear
Thanks! Have you ever used it in your tanks?
@@plantlifeproject No, I never used kitty litter as substrate
Thank you for the video and the inspiration to put a tank together like that.
You’re welcome, I’m glad to share it with you!
I have a tank that looks almost exactly like this, same mass of roots in back from pothos. I’ve seen people work hard to conceal those roots w/ hardscape or false backs, but I like the look. And the fish seem to like it too.
That tank is really amazing to look at.
Thanks, I’m really enjoying it!
Have small Pebbles as substraight, so planting like this is perfect. Can't plant typical aquarium plants..
I know it's a 'basic' addition, but definitely give anubias a try in this tank. Lots of varieties to choose from and they are perfectly slow and consistent in low light. And getting that new leaf every couple of days is really satisfying.
Thanks for the recommendation, that’s a good point!
Loved the whole video - watched it while doing my water change. Really needed the words at the end! My tank is not going super well right now but not in a way that harms my fish who are a couple of years old now. Just need to remember your advice in those last few minutes :)
Also, really struggling with nitrate in this tank despite having a Pothos and Mini Monsterra in the tank - I have nitrates from my tap water and a medium stocked tank with danios in a planted tank. I have noticed the house plants have been struggling recently and this may be because I move them out of the tank weekly to take the lid off my tank, could that be an issue? The Monsterra is also about 2 years old now so I'm wondering after a few harsh cuttings is it just at its limit? Any advice?
Glad you enjoyed it, kind of ironic that you were doing a water change to this video 😂. Also glad you found encouragement!
Thanks for the update, looks great! Also, thanks a lot for your words at the end, thats something a lot of people myself included should really take to heart
Thank you too!
I really enjoy your channel, and seeing how many different house plants can grow from the top of an aquarium. I am still working on making a planter so I can put some pothos in all my tanks. -- when you got to the part about detritus worms, I remembered the first time I saw those in one of my aquariums and I panicked and did huge water change. lol I still have so much to learn.
Thanks, glad you’re enjoying it! How are you making the planter?
@@plantlifeproject I think I will use the plastic pots a bunch of my aquarium plants came in, and attach them together with a big zip tie. I just need to figure out how to hang them from the rim so they are in the water. I've got a cheap wire rack I'm going to put on the wall over the aquarium so the plants can grow on it.
What I've found with Syngonium is it grows VERY well if it has an anchor for its roots versus just hanging free like pothos does so well doing. Once Syngonium is established and the roots make their way to the bottom of the tank, they do fine, but they do seem to struggle while roots hang free. I use lava rock or LECA in net pots for smaller Syngonium. Have some rooting right now that way.
Thanks for sharing, which variety of syngonium are you growing?
@@plantlifeproject I've got the one commonly found in all the stores around here. The cuttings are VERY finicky though. I've found that only about 1 in 3 takes, and that's with use of rooting compound, so I start cuttings in glass jars with LECA and distilled water and don't move them into tanks until they're rooting and getting new leaves. Saves me having to pull the melting mess out of a tank. I've found once they've got good roots and new leaves forming, they do great in my tanks if their roots are anchored in lava rock or LECA.
I love this tank, all about those rooots!!
That looks so badass with all the roots in the tank!!! Well done! If you're having issues with one particular species having a nutrient deficiency, try a foliar feed like a kelp spray (I love Age Old Kelp). Its very cheap to use and I see a really great response from the plant.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to try that, does it have a strong odor? This tank is in my living room after all 😆
@@plantlifeproject Nope, litte to no odor. It definitely doesn't smell strongly of kelp or the ocean like you'd think.
I've got an entire wall of pothos and it wraps around my kitchen and dining room ceiling. Mine started in a 20 high but I ended up changing it to a 40 breeder without disturbing the plants on the wall.
Sweet! I would love to see a pic!
@plantlifeproject lots of tank pics on my IG, same name. Haven't done an updated pic of that tank for a while though.
Awesome tank!
Thanks!
The fishes really look happy! Could you tell us the water parameters, like ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, phosphate etc...
No ammonia or nitrites, nitrates barely showing up on the test, haven’t measured phosphate yet
PH is around 7 or slightly under
I put pothos in my tank now Im tryung some snake plant see how it goes
Great 👍🏻❤️
Thanks!
very nice, looks amazing 😍new subscriper for you goodvibes thank you for share 🤗
Thanks, welcome to the channel!

Salve ho visto molti video e tengono i photos sott’acqua, secondo la sua esperienza è possibile?? Grazie
Yes it is possible. I have a short video on how I did this in one of my tanks. Most of the leaves are above the water with some growing underwater. The Pothos leaves do eventually die back underwater and new ones can replace them. It is not the same as having a submerged aquarium plant, but it is possible.
What do you do if you got pests on your overwater-plants? Normally i would spray them with something, but I recon that would drip into the tank and be not so benefitial?
What kind of pests are they? I haven’t had too much trouble with insect pests but I have had mealy bugs (white fluffy looking small bugs between plants leaves) which I removed most by wiping them off with my hand. Cover all the open spaces over the tank, To get between leaves, you could use a Q-tip to wipe alcohol or insect soap that way you could keep from spraying it and risk getting in the water. You will probably have to repeat the process every few days for a few weeks just to make sure your getting all the bugs
@@plantlifeproject Thanks for your answer. I dont have any pests at this time fortunately! The pollen of my peacelilys fell on the leaves and at first i thought they are aphids or spidermites, which made me wonder what to do if it happens for real next time. On a related note; this specific set-up is lid-less, do you think that the pollen will have a negative impact on the water?
@@McMacMastaMan I have peace lilies dropping pollen in a guppy tank and goldfish tank and don’t have any problems. I’ve even seen the guppies eating it when it fell on the water surface. The pollen is supposedly toxic along with the rest of the plant, but I just haven’t seen any adverse effects on my fish.
What size the tank is?
29 gallon
@@plantlifeproject I have several tanks, some CO2 injection(only underwater plants). I'm growing right now my first emersed plants on leca rock in containers attached to the side of another aquarium. I use only t5 high output growth lights. In the 29 gallon on the video how many watts of led lights are you using, and how many hours a day you let them on?
I have never make a water change in 30 years 😉
How dare you!……just kidding, that’s awesome!
