im homeless rn (in a shelter thankfully) and watching your vids and doing watercoloring myself have been crucial for staying sane...it means so much that an art youtuber is raising funds for humanitarian efforts!
That is definitely not a colour combo I'd have thought of trying! I love how it turned out without the ink, but then the black really transformed it into something much bolder and visually impactful.
It's been posted less than 10 minutes ago and I haven't finished watching (obviously) but here I am, fangirling like a kid because this is the colour combination I suggested and you picked it!! It's so selfless of you to donate all the profits you get this month to end homelessness. That's deeply sweet and beautiful.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!! I really love it! :D And I'm so grateful to be able to give with you all. Thanks for being a part of it with me. Wouldn't be possible without you!
@@arleebean the final painting is gorgeous, adding black was a good decision. No problem for the suggestion! My best wishes to you and your loved ones.
I know I'm late to this video so you might not get a chance to see this but I just wanted to say your channel means a lot to me. whenever I'm feeling anxious, tired or frustrated I watch one of your videos and the painting and your voice relaxes me and sometimes helps me sleep. I'm a trans guy so school gets very stressful sometimes but watching your painting always helps me a lot. Thank you for everything you do
Gorgeous! Love this peice and color combo. Caput Mortem paired with a blue is definitely my go to for skin tones for awhile now. Especially DS Mayan Blue! Will be giving it a try with a teal soon. Thanks for sharing this! So cool :)
This is for sure one of my favorite pieces done by you. The black ink and white gouache combo really elevated it to the next level, and the limited palette choice was a really gorgeous combo as well. Amazing! I only own a White Night set, but some of my favorite pairs and triads from it are Turquoise Blue - Sepia, Turquoise Blue - English Red, Carmine - Indigo, Carmine - Payne's Grey, English Red - Sepia - Indanthrene Blue, and Carmine - Lemon Yellow - Ceruleum Blue.
I love the result of this experiment of yours! As much as I love your usual pieces, this one feels much more personal and expressive than when you try to constraint yourself more.
I have probably commented this before, but I watch your videos especially when my PTSD symptoms are high. You help me to self-soothe and ground myself. You have such a peacefulness.
I love those two colours together, they make for some phenomenal granulation. But the drama of the addition of black and spattered white is gorgeous. It gives such an impact when you look at it.
Using a limited palette is SUCH an effective tip for beginners 👏 the whole color theory nonsense (it’s not of course) gets very overwhelming very fast at the start. But using 2 or 3 colors per piece is less choice overwhelming AND you can learn about the color pairing effectiveness 👌👌
Two of my favorite colors so when I saw your title I was elated! I'm a huge fan of muted colors and love adding Cobalt teal as my pop of color. Thank you for always inspiring us! The black ink was a brilliant idea and your right, the contrast is stunning 😍 Thank you for supporting the homeless this month. Prayers you reach a lot of money for this charity. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤
A wonderful pairing. Just to expand into more warmth you could make it a trio with the french vermilion. Black and white are a given for me, they are always included. I would even add a flash of metallic gold as well, but only for thin flashy highlights.
I haven’t watched art videos fo a while to help me get out of art frustration and then I come back to see that you used one of my favourite pigment combinations😍
I love the Sennelier Caput Mortuum sooo much! I considered this exact combination for a painting the other day but decided against it, glad to see you use it instead haha
The color combination was just extraordinary. Thanks for all you do and sharing. I personally preferred the painting without the black but I'm so glad you SOLD it! Happy Holidays! Healthy and Happy New Year. :)
oh i love this one!!!!! your limited colour palette artworks are always so interesting, this is probably one of my favourites so far! I love ur work and ur content is always really soothing to me
my most favourite limited palette is naphthol red and phthalo blue green shade. they neutralize each other wonderfully and still you can have wide range of values and saturated colours
coming back to this to say that this video has had me obsessed with caput mortum for the past year and i finally got me a tube of it the other day! i'm excited to use it
some day i would also like to see exactly your process of adding a little color together with water to make the ranges of two colors. I literally know how to do it, but I would like to see your process because I think there might be a better way than the way I do it that wastes a lot of paint water and brushes. That is if other people are interested too.
I loved seeing this early on Patreon, and such a beautiful artwork. I watched again here while I was painting because you chill me out so much, thank you for that
what a coincidence! I just rewatched all of your past lifestreams while doing some work for scool. I love having you in the background, it's just such a joy to listen to you talking about things you love while I do stuff that I do not quite like as much. Thank you for your videos, Arlee
This was perfect! I’ve been interested in both of these pigments at some point, so it was great to see them together! And the black is so beautiful next to the portrait. 😊
I know this is such a cliché combination, but with the holidays season going on right now, maybe you could find a way to pair red and green but like more muted and dusty or any other colors that remind you of the holidays? I love your art so much! You're truly an inspiration for me ! :) Edit: I have realized by now that you have actually already done a red green combo last year with rose and viridian but in that video you also tried these warmer red and green colors that made these beautiful neutral tones and I would really love to see how you could use that other warmer red and green paring in a piece
honestly i think this is my favorite piece of yours - i've been watching your work for quite a while and i always love what you create and share but this portrait might be my favorite
Am i the odd nut here who enjoy watching swatches being done. I must have watched nearly 100 swatches for jelly gouache, and another 200 for other painting mediums.
2nd person here, With cobalt and cad colors in general, I want to try them to see if I use them but I so like should I get them or not with the toxicity and nonproprietary disposal and .... how would I approach these colors and omg...... I love the painting... okay this is getting long, ✌️
Caput Mortem is a very interesting color. It is Latin to describe the color of dried blood of people who had been beheaded, according to Winsor Newton. It also apparently was a pigment at one point that was derived from Egyptian mummies. Pretty wild, huh? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caput_mortuum_(pigment)

OLD LEATHER SMITH here, Hi TALENTED LADY, I WOULD LIKE 2 WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Adding the black ink and splattering of white gouache gives the painting a really mysterious, outer space vibe and I really love it!
Oooh and the lines of color across the face are reminiscent of a teleportation sequence, give it a real sci-fi vibe
im homeless rn (in a shelter thankfully) and watching your vids and doing watercoloring myself have been crucial for staying sane...it means so much that an art youtuber is raising funds for humanitarian efforts!
I hope your doing better with your housing situation, I had a relative that lived in a shelter and she said that it wasn’t a great experience
That is definitely not a colour combo I'd have thought of trying! I love how it turned out without the ink, but then the black really transformed it into something much bolder and visually impactful.

@@estudiodavi5041 it's one of my all time favourite pairings! I think you can achieve the perfect koala grey with it.
how about potters pink and sap pr phthalo green? those might make for an interesting pairing!
Wow! It looks so cool!! I love the addition of the black and the white splatters! =O
Oh my! You!
Cobalt teal is so fun in limited palettes - the first time I saw it in a limited palette with just potter's pink I just fell instantly in love!

Those close up swatches are so satisfying to watch. Also, I love those dusty purples and the granulation in the first set

The closeup shots of the painting are FANTASTIC. Very satisfying to watch, I hope you enjoyed painting as much as we enjoyed watching!
