  • Every time the press changes the lexicon of the news, it changes the profile of the elected representatives. Why, then, not use words that encompass the complexity of politics instead of criminalizing it? Carol Pires is a journalist and screenwriter, as well as a master in Latin American politics from Columbia University. She is the author of the podcast "Retrato Narrado," a Spotify original that tells the story of Jair Bolsonaro up to his presidency.
She is also the co-writer of the Netflix film "The Edge of Democracy," nominated for the 2020 Oscar for Best Documentary, as well as other works on Globoplay and HBO Max. As a journalist, she was a reporter for Piauí magazine and a regular contributor to The New York Times en Español, writing about Brazil for the Latin American audience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
