    Just before I stopped playing Elite, 1 year before ODY, I had come to the conclusion that most of the money generated by elite was getting spent on their new IPs such as Jurassic Park. When instead they should have really turned up the dial on Elite. In my opinion the game started to feel like early access that would never be actually finished.

      ya, true. Elite is ignored child or coconut for now, they spent so much time with dinosaurs and F1 cars they dont even make good player base like elite.

      @@gamertank1987 Probably all the more painful with how mediocre F1 Manager managed to be, and then they tried to immediately drop support for it too. Maybe in a couple years if Frontier manages to stick around they'll make either Elite or F1 worth revisiting.

    Every time I think about Elite Dangerous, it makes me a little sad. I put over 3000 hours into the game. I used to play with my friends. I used to stream it back when I did the Twitch thing. I had so much fun playing the game and living the life of a spaceman. Unfortunetly I burnt myself out and decided I would take a break, just a small one, until there was something new to draw me back in. All of my friends stopped playing. I stopped streaming. Then FDev stopped adding fun things to do (in my opinion of course). I haven't played since before Odyssey and I honestly don't see myself going back because I just don't see the game having much of a future the way things are going. I hope that I'm wrong, I really do, but if the last few years are any indication, I'm not.

      They made a huge mistake making this game an MMO. If they could have made this game a moddable single player game like Fallout series, Freelancer, Kerbal Space, X4 Foundation, we would have been playing this game a lot longer. Plus I would't mind spending money on expansion if they end up going with DLC. Elite has so much potential, especially with it's great game engine. What a waste.

    7 years and still no exploration-based missions. At least we had DW1 and DW2 which tried their best to fill exploration with all sorts of events and content for players to do during the journey to Beagle Point back in the day.

      I would put DW2 as the best time in Elite if you were an explorer. So much to do and discover on that expedition as the Codex was brand new, and we had the Explorer's Anchorage CG to complete too. Those 6 months in 2019 were the high-point for Elite imo.

      Not entirely accurate as there are many passenger missions related to sightseeing, some a very long distance. But I know what you mean as I would have expected missions to explore a particular sector, or scan a particular system/planet etc. Long overdue as mission types.

      you know.. i have nearly 3K hours in ED and that never occurred to me... we dont have missions for exploration other than passenger missions do we?

    Ant, please don't blame yourself or your expectations. It was always Frontier and David Braben, OBE who were vastly overexaggerating on gameplay, expansions and the next "exciting feature". And they totally knew what they were doing.

    I hope it's as successful as your last video, but I think you and I and everyone here don't have the same hope as we did 7 years ago. I fear it's not going to even come close to any of your top videos and I think that shows you the state of things. Thanks for continue to keep the game alive with your videos though.

    I have never seen a game ignore and divide its player base as hard as elite we warned them every mistep of the way! One game mode, one vision done by people that care about it. that's all i ever wanted for elite

    #1 for me is ship interiors because when I bought my anaconda it was a real bummer that I only get to see the cockpit and yet I can see a older interior through the window. #2 is more life/story - they started on it but it needs way more. #3 I love the idea of walking on the rings of a station or being able to have your own room like an actual house! #4 definitely Qol update - the game needs it desperately and I think a good place to start are the fleet carriers because the original price makes sense but a weekly upkeep doesn't or one being that expensive. And finally #5 More space - The black holes and most planets are depressing - I mean where is the diversity and atmosphere or weather? This is my list!

    PO, PM of Elite, if you see this, please read this comment.
    CMDR-s. please press a like btn to make this comment top.
    My top wish for ED game is:
    - Developers and PM, PO come out from shadow and start communicate with the players (like SC do).
    - Developers and PM, PO annonce and show what they doing before release to have ability change a plan during development not after (like exobiology scanner)
    - Developer and PM, PO speak with community clearly and say what they want to do, and how long they will support the game
    - - like example, if the say: guys we very love Elite but we should drop the game because it is not profitable anymore, but if we run new kickstarter we can deliver 3 more DLC for you.
    (from one side people will be upset, from other side im sure, each Elite fan can donate 20$ dollars for continue Elite to exist)
    P.S: i very love release time in 2014. It was so promising, updates came so fast till 2016.
    P.S.S: I'm still believe that this game have SO HUGE potential. The only thing which they need is people who like space in the team and be more open with community.
    P.S.S.S: i do not like that we do not get any info about the game, it maks me super upset, and fact that they drop consol develpment tell us that there is a problem with money and they gradually reduce support. If nothing change in near future i belive that they will drop the game support in the end of 2024 after Targoids fights on foot update. But, many people who buyed Lifetime pass will be very angry because there was only 2 paid expansions, so it should be at least 3.
    PO, PM if you see this, please, do not kill your game, lets run one more kickstarter and boost Elite. We need more exploration, we need more features, we need more communications.

    Atmospheric worlds is the one thing i wanted back, All planets being accessible. Ship interiors, not as much, but i wouldn't say no; especially if that's all we'll get.

    I started playing Elite because of how immersive it looked and felt. Also because there was a lot to learn, with me turning FA off after getting to grips with the basics.
    There are many different angles to take on this, but what made me stop playing was that, in the end, ED never made me care about my ship or learning about it in a good way. When I was in a cheap ship I felt limited. When I was in an expensive ship, I didn't want to take it out, because I couldn't afford to lose it. The better the ships I got, the worse I felt.
    Plus, whatever ship I was in I never felt quite in control of a fight or even just running away. It always felt like numbers won in any situation, not what you did.
    Maybe I will fire it back up in a bit. Just fly around a little. Maybe it's been long enough to have something to re-learn.

    Space looks so much gorgeous in Legacy than in Odyssey which is really dark and I really miss these "dust atmospheres" from some planets in Legacy, which is seen in your vid.

    Agree on your new top 5 wishes list and it mostly is what I wished for 7 years ago already. The only thing I'd add is getting full VR support back (hinting at Odyssey) and it performing well.

    All playing elite dangerous does now is make me want to play one of the other games out there. It just makes me want for more. Never fully satisfying everything I'm looking for out of the game.

    Elite dangerous has absolutely huge potential. And they never got to anything that great. This game could have been the best space Sim ever and it got put in the basement and mothballed is the way it felt.

    Ship interiors, atmospheric planets, some form of base/refinery building... those would all be incredible. I'd also like continued refinement of the planet generation system itself. Maybe some system of placing more detailed, crafted tiles on worlds the way Star Citizen does. Auto-generated inevitably seems to result in a certain homogeneity.

    amazing how most of the list is basically the bare minimum effort implementation without any of the depth that was pitched with. Typical for Fdev.

    1: Atmospheric plants to be exploreable, including oceans, rivers, lava caves, etc.
    2: More done to oddasy, ship, starbase, and other structures to be exploreable. (I would also like to see VR in fps mode)
    3: Ship yards, with the option to custome build ships, fighters and Station etc.
    4: A lot more intuitive gameplay and menu systems, better game balance, and better on foot combat.
    5: Event with live stream in game racing arena combat, in space, and on the ground, etc.

    I will always want to walk around my ship. Even if it's just getting in and out.
    If I could have a pie in the sky version of that, it would be to get out in an EV suit and salvage derelict ships and the physically repair parts of my ship in the absence of modules that do it automatically.

    It's lonely out in the black. My wish, one that I have been wanting since I got my first Anaconda in 2015, is to have full crews for the ship. I got a taste when they added fighters, however, adding in more hireable crews has been something I've wanted to see for some time.

    I've always wanted a thing directly related to ship's interiors: It's making players have to really care about they ships. In the way you have to do maintenances, reparairs and improvised solutions just to keep it flying. Having holes to patch, electronics to replace or somthing in the ship wont work properly... and on the other side inner decorations and make them feel that you are really living there. It would be wonderful.
    It also could serve to make small ships more attractive than bigger ships: less maintenance :D and you'll improve ship variety around there.

    Do you know what I wish they had in elite dangerous? a stock market, where you could invest money in companies etc.
    A rather interesting mechanic, because what goes on within the elite dangerous universe, will ultimately affect how it goes.
    You could get information of what other players are up to and how this might affect you in your investments and stuff.
    Also the lore of the Universe may affect how the stock market goes as well by Galnet news and stuff.

    First and foremost, thank you for all of the years of amazing content. Your mild accent and rich voice should be insured.
    There are a million things Frontier should do with this game besides letting a rogue AI go free and ask players to stop it. THIS. IS. NOT. CONTENT. In light of their earning reports, they should just stop all the unprofitable nonsense and focus on this game, the one that put them on the map. Just my two credits.

    I know it will never happen but id love a console upgrade, I started playing on the PS4 with a friend and they dont have access to a gaming PC. So I feel a little lost hope that makes sense.

    After 600 hours in Horizons, a QoL change to bring me back would be an official HUD color customization. Give me the option to customize the colors without using something hacky and I'd probably put in another 600 hours.

    My 5 wishes:
    5. New physics engine with more realistic inertia and thrust force implementation
    4. DLSS support (ideally with DX12)
    3. Storage (be able to load and unload the cargo to/from the ship)
    2. Player-owned surface structures (ideally with an additional PvP gameplay)
    1. Ships interior (ideally an additional PvP gameplay)

    As a console to PC transfer I have to say for not playing for 2+ years iam pleasantly surprised at how the game progressed. I kept up w the lore via fdev emails, but the new codex layout, spacelegs, carriers, thargoid war, I am probably one of the few that's happy to be playing again. Making billions off exobio scans made the FC so much easier to get than the mining deep core/passenger runs and it is a game changer having all ships and modules with me wherever I go.

    They've dragged the old codebase along for way too long and tried to shoehorn far too much into it when it honestly needed a complete rewrite. We really should have seen Elite Dangerous 2 in or around 2020/21.

      I wonder if the core functionality could be largely kept and built upon, but re-worked for modern systems? This game is the blueprint for stuff that a lot of other companies have tried to do better, but so far, nobody really has quite finished a better game yet. Starfield might manage to be better in most ways. Star Citizen is still way too buggy and only one system. No Man's Sky got pretty good, but it's just a different thing, sort of Pokemon in space.

    Hi OA, thanks for the video. I wouldn't personally call the Thargoids a dynamic galaxy. It's just a poor excuse for what FDev call engagement. It's been a big disappointment for me personally. A dynamic galaxy for me means new races to find, interact with and learn about. New interactions between those races and humanity, new mysteries to unravel involving both humans and other races, new planets types to explore, new fauna and flora, new dangers from these (as in Astroneer)... In short a whole load more new content in a live service game. Instead we get fed Goid Soup...

      Glad some people see it for what it is.
      They added.. a small handful of new things to make that Thargoid war, and most of it has no depth. Otherwise they took existing content and just moved it closer to the bubble. Great... If you love Thargoid content... Otherwise this update was a huge bust.
      The cutscenes show a level of hilariously tiny production value that I think showcases how much Frontier doesn't care. Fan made videos from the early days of WoW had more effort.

    I like the physics, stations, environment dangers and ship maintenance in Elite but i wish it had Space Engineers build and play in it. Or Space Engineers with those features from Elite in it.

    I'd like to see Thargoid Diplomatic missions eventually along with a possible Thargoid defector/fifth column storyline maybe. I'd also like to see more storylines to do with exploring but thats in the future right now I'd like to see a change to the selling page, instead of having to scroll through the market list to find the items you wish to sell it'd be nice to see a revert back to the original Elite where when selling you just had a page showing only your cargo hold and goods in it which you selected what to be sold or not or just part sell, the only time you'd see the market list was when buying goods.

    never seen a developer under-deliver so badly on a game with so much promise. Frontier, while they have delivered something to be proud of, should be kicking themselves for not taking advantage of the game's popularity properly and the absolutely terrible mismanagement of the game's direction.

      Honestly they could get pretty close to their original vision within that time if the game receives proper support, a lot of the groundwork for their human scale ambitions is already done, now that Odyssey is out there's a ton of comparatively simple (though still not at all trivial) things they could do to expand what's there, and there's little hints of what was at least attempted, and may be in the works, like the fact that you can get EVA working and magboot onto ships.

    The Current Maelstrom effect could more than be used for flying in the atmospheres of Gas Giants. Add some rain streaming on the cockpit windows, and some transition to and from the atmosphere, make them different colors add some more turbulence effects (make it that if you drop too low you get crushed by the atmosphere. Have a nice calm above cloud sections kinda similar to flying above rings we have now with maybe some Cloud City style outposts and boom. done..

      Oh yeah, I would definitely hope they will extend that tech, mostly say to the lagrange clouds. For those to have that bigger scale and being able to see them from supercuise would be something awesome. That new 4.0 tech that enables them to show such effects in supercruise instance is really awesome, be it with maelstroms or say proteus wave site. I just really hope they expend it on some more long term stuff, beacuse if they won't. that would be lost a really good opportunity :D

      @@neonspark707 It can be scaled up.. they already have the effects, lightening etc. They can just scale it up (even repeat) the effect to co-inside to the scale of the planet.. Instead of entering it head on, you enter it from above with like I said above something like the ringed planets do now already.. And then when you break thru that part, small loading and descend into the "maelstrom effect" from above instead of rocks, and really because you can't see much ahead of you, sense of scale isn't going to matter. further down you go the darker and more crushing it becomes until your ship gets crushed. find rare materials the further down you go etc.
      Dont think about the size, think about the effects used. which are already in the game. just use them differently for different content.

    I would also add a player based economies like in game like EVE or Naval action. I would love to build weapons or ships. Indeed, that would imply ressources gathering on a greater scale so some kind of base building... maybe just in a context menu or even better, a small base which players could build upon like a carrier but instead on planets they might have discovered themselves with the ability to charge taxes and implement some type of edict or laws to bring in colonist. A planet could host a certain number of base depending of it's size and number of inhabitant... as an example or it could only be a small home which you could decorate like in Kotor...The ability to sell weapons and ships on a player market with an in game currency or sell/buy engineering mats to other players, that would be nice. They have a trade system which they implemented in planet zoo, they could use a similar model...

    Honestly, a nice start would be for FDev to simply fix the Sol System: Finally make the Moon landable. Put the asteroid belt in the right place (not in the middle of the Sun, as it currently is). finally either unlock Triton or reveal why its locked. Give the gas giants the correct numbers of Moons (they added a bunch of relatively newly-discovered dwarf planets to the outer Solar System but not moons that have been known to exist for decades).

    I agree with exploration improvements. They could be better with engineering the xenoscanner, could hold multiple types of plants could be an idea. Or to get something more than just credits for scanning planets.

    What I want:
    1. Rebalance engineering, so it doesn't break player interactions and force new players out of open play.
    2. Maybe adjust the crime and punishment system to dissuade ganking, while not hurting valid piracy.
    3. Allow "teams" to be combination of wing and multicrew. The player limit doesn’t need to change.
    4. Atmospheric landing.
    5. More varied missions, dynamic missions with mini-stories etc.
    6. Make piracy and smuggling more worth while.
    7. More space phenomenon, such as black hole excretion disks and supernovae.
    8. Space ship interiors.
    9. Make Odyssey good, so I have a reason to buy it.

    With Odyssey, they've basically abandoned VR. They obviously don't have any VR programmers around any more, so they won't fix the long-standing VR bugs, nor will they ever expand on the VR experience, which is a real pity. ED was my gateway into VR, and it still is unrivaled when it comes to immersion and a general "feel" of space. (To make that clear, I'm completely uninterested in the FPS and I acknowledge that supporting walking gameplay in VR is absolutely non-trivial and likely will never happen.)
    If you ask me, after the Odyssey debacle (one in a long row of release and in-game event debacles) FDev decided to cut their losses and do the absolute minimum required to keep people in the game. They're doing optimization and bugfixes, but I won't hold my breath for *any* new features. The engine is at the end of its potential and they definitely won't be rewriting the game.
    Hey FDev, if you *do* rewrite, I'm paying full price *and* subscription, if you support VR, tune down the grind (or make it completely optional) and make this game a viable multiplayer experience.

    I wish you could show on the map inhabited locations in the whole galaxy, even if it is just a single port. I would use that. Also the ability to actually engineer your ship. Swap hard points from higher to smaller slots, like a hard point large to 2 medium or 4 small. Swapping out fsd drives, even moving hardpoint locations. Literally rebuild and re engineer on and in the core ship frames. Truely customize. Also building or pinging locations for build sites. I mean we scan and find some really usable locations, but the game doesnt seem to use it truely to its fullest. I'd love to be able to build with limits on planets. Source materials and fabricate them with special modules and cargo engineering / science modules for commercial ships.

    I would really appreciate one simple thing - ability to bookmark place on the surface of a planet. And be able to target it. It would make the surface exploration much more easy.
    The other thing would be more difficult - to be able to create some sort of base camp on the planet - you could heal yourself there and stay on the surface for long time without the risk of fuel depletion.

    I would love to wander around, and get lost, in the type 10. But they still need to improve other things first.
    Eg, fighting the federation, for the empire whilst flying a federal ship, shooting feds in an imperial ship 🤔

    suprised by the lack of mentioning of Base building! seting up mining hubs etc to fill in the plnets we do get to go on( and orbits) with player built and player run facilities. understand that these would be open to "ganking" but surely there is a way to balance that to an extent..e.g veryy good AI auto defences

    Personally I'm missing an incentive to explore. I'd love to see either long forgotten human or brand new humanoid races appear on the other side of the milky way to encourage us to take the long journeys to visit them. That means settlements we can visit, new unusual goods to trade and bringing back that sense of wonder. Passenger missions used to be my excuse to explore but as you say they're pretty stale.

    Though atmospheric worlds would be my number one as well, filled with interesting flora and fauna… My number two would be a robust system in which players could become engineers of rare items that augment your ship on your players suits and weapons.
    The way I see this working the best, the way it was done in my favorite space game of my childhood years, which was called Earth and Beyond. Players can either loot items or exotic materials. Any looted item could be reverse engineered to learn how to create it. What’s interesting about this is if a player ever found a rare item that no one else has seen before, they can try to reverse engineering to become the only person who can craft it. Crafted versions of gear cannot be reversed, engineered, only looted versions.
    On the other hand, schematic for a new type of weapon, ship, suit, building or space station could be produced by putting in ample research time. So within the bounds of elite dangerous, what if players could create their own research facilities (or other facilities for that matter) on planets of their choosing and task their staff with making new discoveries. And on the rare occasion, I schematic for a new device, would be the result, and that player would be able to put it into production so that all other players in the game would eventually be able to have and use this new item.
    Anytime a player puts any of this new equipment to use on their ships, etc., they can no longer be traded or reverse engineered… it essentially become soul bound. This makes it so the player has to make a conscious decision to either use a rare piece of equipment they find, or try to learn how to make it with a real chance of failure at learning, how with the item being destroyed.

    Atmospheric worlds would probably mean a reroll of planetary surfaces galaxy wide. I don't think that would necessarily mean our discoveries or first foots would be lost, but it might mean that worlds we are accustomed to, Mitterand Hollow or the 46G planet for example, might be lost. They could always purposely break Mitterand again, but still, they were not willing to fix the copy paste problem of the surface designs that came about from Odyssey, why would they want to break the galaxy and upset the player base a third time? (The first was when they shuffled all the hotspots for Tritium when fleet carriers were added, the second when Odyssey's new planet tech broke planet surfaces.)

    I think having another pass on all aspects of the game is probably the healthiest thing for keeping players. The big thing right now is a streamlined graphics pipeline so that we can get decent performance while on foot.
    For attracting new players, I'd say the easiest thing for Fdev to add is gas giant flight. Having floating cities, storms and life forms adds a lot of visual elements that make the game attractive. The fact that it's in an atmosphere means some ships will gain maneuverability while others will lose some. The tech needed to pull this off can also be used for other landable planets with atmospheres. Going atmospheres before gas giants means limiting the atmospheric planets in some way that you dont have to render the billions of people on, say, Earth or whatever. It's best to go in order of colony sizes imo.
    The alternative would be to do ship interiors with zero-g gameplay. These would work together because it would provide abandoned ships in the black that you could board, and thus explore the interiors of enemy ships. If you're doing that and players want interiors for their ships, it's not a big deal to do, and it opens up the possibility of the reverse happening... enemies invading your ship. What if pirates and cops didn't think murdering you was fun and actually tried to take you and/or your stuff by first disabling your ship and then boarding? I think this is harder for fdev to do than gas giants, but I suppose it depends on how it's done. I would very much want them to revamp crew members as part of this so you can actually meet them around your ship and get to know them through dialog, and have reasons to make the rounds on your ship to keep components in top form. If ship interiors are done, I expect it will be very barebones like the orrery map.

    I have always enjoyed ED. It really meant my wish for a space exploration game. Having millions of planets of the Milky Way was a perfect backdrop for great potential. The old planet generation produced phenomenal planets and planet surfaces that had the community heading out to check them out. Having a clean slate as to what one might find out in unexplored space made me eager to see how Frontier would conceptualize the unknown. Sadly with the failed launch of ODY, I was disappointed that the developers discarded exceptional new and future concepts and fell back on what exists in most other games. ODY is all but an FPS game now. I have lots of games to play, should that be my objective. The bubble existed for me as a means to gain credits for me to purchase ships and modifications that would allow me to head out into the unknow to discover unimaginable items, life forms, treasure, anomalies, space challenges with gravity, dark matter/energy, super nova, etc. Frontier could have been at the forefront of new concepts instead of falling back on tied and true FPS concepts.

    I want to see deep level mining villages on planets, where people can own and group their mines together and pay/arrange security to prevent looting and takeovers. Perhaps there could be some problems with pirates charging danger payments and stuff like this...? I am sure there would be a bit of potential for ideas here...
    Also would it be too hard to ask for a different dashboard style for every ship? WHat they should have done is made cockpits as a sort of VR room which only came to life when a mounted display is turned on, that way it would follow that the interface would be the same between ships....

    I imagine the reason that Fdev haven't been able to deliver on some of these goals is the graphics engine. I suspect they've reached the limit of what they have can do and the only way to move forward is a complete rebuild, in essence, a whole new game.

    I just hope if the servers some day go down we'll still be able to play horizon legacy in solo mode. I don't play the live version, and from other comments I've made on previous videos you know I'm pretty bitter towards Fdev and how they wasted so much potential, but I will always enjoy putting on my vr headset and just flying around in space and exploring. And I'd really like to be able to continue to do that even if/when they officially abandon the game

    i would like most of those things too, but would also add a more fleshed out crew system, with some training options and perks depending on skills etc.. sort of RPGlite elements. we have them with our SLF pilot (tho we cant see them which is a shame) but would also add it technicians, science officers, commandos, gunners, trade officers, navigators, explorers etc.

    You know what would help exploration? Ship interiors and full atmospheric worlds! For exploration to be worth it, the world needs to feel alive. Elite far from feels alive while on foot. They need to make the AI better. They need to open things up more. I HATE Star Citizen purely because it runs like shit, but damn did they do a GREAT job on how that game feels. If you can see something in SC, you can go there and do something there. Just wish it ran better

    I still really want a new career choice / class of ships. Effectively space tow truckers / mobile repair jobs. Being able to disembark from your ship in space to go out to a ship in distress and perform repairs / diagnostics. If its something simple to get your engines back up and running or even needing to tow a ship to a nearby port for more in depth repairs.

    When Elite launched i felt (and still do ) that it was the best foundational item to the space-game genre in existence.
    Boundless potential and a dev team that may raise it above the competition (the sound guys at least never failed us in that regard)
    now? I enjoy the Warframe arcadey space-ship mode more than I ever did ED (my ship, my weapons, my CREW, my drop-in co-op friends) and thoroughly regret FDev deciding to drop the offline play version of ED as I truly think that only modders can save the product at this point, whatever money ED made is clearly not being spent on active development, that or so little is being made that it's fundamentally a game stuck in long term maintenance mode with the newest (inevitably half baked and likely broken) content utterly locked behind a paywall i have zero intent on participating in until it's FULLY patched and ready for public consumption, something that 2? years on FDev still have not come even close to achieving.

    I cannot stop, ever, to compare this sad game - ED - with the greatest space game ever created - Mass Effect ... 16 yo game now, yet with ships interiors, no interior customization, alien lands exploration, combat, and a story... what a great story.... smart AI, great soundtrack, fantastic script, real , deep interactions with NPCs, to conclude, a full packet. Remember Normandy ?....
    EDevs learned NOTHING from this great trilogy-NOTHING. We are in 2023, and they are simply incapable to do today what those guys did 16 years ago ! This tells a lot.

    I had only started playing last September. I've since started to get bored for a multitude of reasons. For the most part, I find myself going back to No Man's Sky because of the similar features, yet they are a bit more fleshed out. While NMS and ED are both games that made bold claims, Hello Games has arguably delivered more on, I wouldn't be surprised if NMS followed in ship interiors before ED.
